While Chapelle talks to Tony Jamey comes in, with Tony's cellphone.

Jamey: Jack Bauer is calling for Tony, he says it's personal.
Chapelle: I'll let you two speak in private.

Chapelle and Jamey left, Chapelle knew that a listening device had been placed on his cellphone, he listens to their conversation.

Jack: Tony, can you get away from CTU?
Tony: I'm not sure. Why?
Jack: I got a call from Ira Gaines.
Tony: The mercenary?
Jack: Yes. He fears his own people are preparing to kill him, he wants to cut a deal. He mentioned that there are people within CTU who are involved with his people.
Tony: Did he say who?
Jack: No, he was deliberately vague. Won't say who until the president gives him a full pardon and witness protection. Gaines knows I'm on the outside, if there is a conspiracy he probably figures I couldn't be a part of it. I've agreed to a meeting but I need backup. You're the only one I can trust.
Tony: I'l try to get away, but I can't promise anything.
Jack: Thank you Tony.

Chapelle did not panic over this. If anyone else at CTU knew of this, all they would know is that Gaines had knowledge of a traitor within CTU, Mason was already the scapegoat. Still, if Gaines was a traitor, he would have to be eliminated before he could provide any specific details. He began to send Dimitri a coded message.

Barnes contacts president Keaton from Afghanistan.

Barnes: We have received intel mr president, Samira Noori has evidence that Abdul Qadir G'ulom was involved in the attack on our embassy.
Keaton: This evidence has been independantly verified?
Barnes: Not yet, but we're trying to verify it now.
Keaton: What about president Daoud?
Barnes: As far as we can yet tell, he's innocent. G'ulom might be planning a coup against Daoud.
Keaton: This complicates matters.
Barnes: I'm aware mr president, but I felt you needed to know right away.
Keaton: Thank you. Keep me informed.
Barnes: Yes sir.

From his office in Moscow Dimitri receives the coded message from Chapelle. Chapelle knows how dangerous it would be to contact him now, so this must be serious. Dimitri was right, Gaines might be changing sides. If true, he could expose Chapelle and others, he cannot be allowed to speak to CTU.
