Author's Note: Here is the Sequel to "The one that got away" that I mentioned I was going to write and also the third and final part ending the trilogy that started from "Siege of Portcestre". My Stat Page is glitching out again so if you could kindly review or favourite to let me know that you read it, that would be very helpful since I have no other idea of knowing due to the glitch. Thanks!

It had been years since Oswald of East Anglia had landed in Valhalla, after Eivor had sent him there when he had died in battle during the Siege of Portcestre.

It had been four years ever since he had last heard word or seen her, it seemed like she was still alive or else she would of been here if she wasn't still alive. It was another ordinary day in the meadhall for him, living the same life in a loop.

He found out that Eivor had left when he woke up the next day to find that both her and Sigurd were gone, having left Valhalla through "the simulator" and back to Midgard. She wouldn't be returning, not unless she died.

Sighing as he placed his mug of mead down he stared into the empty hall in front of him. The various friends and warriors that he had made, had once again gone out into battle leaving him and Svala there once more.

I don't know why I bother honestly. Like Who am I waiting for by sitting out here? It's not like Finnr or anyone else will be joining me pretty soon anyway.

So he was suprised to see Finnr hobbling in right at that very moment.

"Oswald!" Finnr called greeting him

"Finnr?!" Oswald couldn't help but be suprised that Finnr was there.

"Come here old friend!"

Oswald walked towards Finnr who was grinning madly with his arms out as the latter pulled him into a tight hug

Suprised at the sudden show of affection, Oswald returned the hug awkwardly patting him on the back.

"Come Come, Have a seat and a drink with me. It would be rude of me if I didn't"

Oswald gestured for Finnr to sit next to him on the empty wooden bench on the meadhall. Finnr followed suit plopping himself down as Oswald got to work finding the mead jug and a mead cup and poured it into Finnr's now empty mug.

"Thank you Oswald"

Oswald smiled back at his old friend. "So, What brings you here all this way? I thought you were raiding with Eivor, or so she told me when I last saw her"

"I was. Until a raid went wrong. We were off the Severn River up to the north, on the way to attack a monastery when we were ambushed. It turns out that the Saxons there were expecting us, since we had attacked and aimed that river before several times. They had upped their defences. We vastly underestimated them at the time. I was shot by an arrow and died on the Ship. Eivor sent me to Valhalla"

Finnr thought back to that last raid they had by the river, a few days back.

"Sails up!" Eivor called as they arrived at the restricted zone of the river.

The Raven clan's sail was now hoisted up at full view, as the ship continued making it's way meandering through the curvy shape of the river.

Finnr stood next to Eivor with his arms folded as he felt the wind and the small breeze of the river whipping through his ears.

"Still hungry for more gold, even when we've got plenty at the settlement already?"

Eivor scoffed turning around to face him as she stood balancing against the longship's pole.

"There is never too much gold and Silver, Finnr. Besides the Barracks are in need of an upgrade, I'm sure you know since your hut is starting to be in a state of desrepair"

Finnr nodded. That indeed was very true, due to the recent rain and heavy storms in Ravensthorpe, Finnr's hut had taken the beating and the damage, and the hut was badly damaged in a state of desrepair. He had moved to the main longhouse as a temporary solution while they found the supplies to fix him and the other Jomsviking's barracks.

"True Eivor. Whatever you want Eivor. Whatever you want to do, I'll always be by your side"

Eivor smiled "Thank you Finnr, that really means a lot. Your loyalty to me and the clan"

Finnr was about to dismiss and retort it as no big deal, when suddenly there was a shout.

"Arrows! We've been ambushed!" Sunniva screamed out a warning

However, it was too late as the other Jomsvikings and Eivor ducked, Finnr due to the fact that his back was facing the side of the attacking settlement, got impaled by an arrow right at that very second.

He stumbled as he coughed blood, clutching his chest in agony and pain before he collapsed on the deck.

"Finnr!" Eivor screamed as she ran towards him, kneeling closer to him as he weakly turned to face her, arrow still in his chest.

"Eivor" he weakly rasped

"It was an honour to fight with you and beside you. Thank you for giving me one last chance at glory"

"No. Finnr. Finnr stay with me!" Eivor cried

"Your brave and strong Eivor. You'll be fine without me" he weakly smiled at her before slumping down once more for the last time.

"FINNR! No. FINNR!" Eivor let out a broken scream and cry.

Just then Sunniva appeared interrupting. "They've left the settlement. They're coming towards the longship now"

Eivor nodded back at her to let her know that she heard the message. Taking her axe out, she briefly placed it on Finnr's chest as she uttered.

"Go. Go be with the Valkyries. They'll take care of you"

She removed the axe, placing it on her belt once more as she turned to face the longship, letting out a battle roar and charge.

I will avenge Finnr.

"Oh" Oswald's face dropped as he watched Finnr take a sip of mead, swallowing it and gulping it down as he awkwardly swished with his own.

"I see. I hope Eivor is alright. I was wondering how she was doing these days, having not seen her for years. Only to find out that she yet again lost someone that she was close to, I guess she hasn't had it easy has she?"

Oswald thought back to the last conversation he had with her when she came to visit him, and how she told him that since the beginning she had always lost people that were close to her, her parents being the first. Unlike me who's been fortunate enough to only lose my parents physically, but emotionally I can't say the same.

I lost Eivor, she said she won't be coming back here again. If ever. He tried to push that last thought away.

"Yeah. Eivor's always had a tough life since the very beginning. I think it just comes with the life of being a raider. It's a harsh reality of War. It's not all doom and gloom though, there were happier times. She went to see her cousin a while back in Ireland and also travelled to France to make new alliances. She has plans to go to Iceland and Vinland and to travel the world with Sigurd then on her own after. Or so she told me"

Finnr remembered how they were sailing back from France having made an alliance with Toka, and Eivor speaking about her plans for the future all of a sudden and how she wanted to sail to the other corners of the world. Finnr had suggested that if she ever needed a sailor, he would be there. But Eivor insisted that after Iceland, she wanted to be by herself. Finnr had just left it at that.

"I see" Oswald said while he took another sip of the bitter mead, downing it before he proceeded to pour another cup. "So she really did go out and do it then. She told me she had plans to die while watching the sunset at an old age, while travelling the world. That sounds interesting. I mean if I could, I would love to go to Norway. I heard about the Fjords and the lights there. That would make a sight"

Oswald wistfully thought to himself sadly at the last part. If we worked out, that would of made a nice honeymoon. No, don't think about that.

Finnr spoke breaking Oswald out of his thoughts. "You know I actually thought about that. Giving up the raiding life and just settling in and dying peacefully but I didn't I changed my mind at the last second"

Oswald looked at Finnr who now had placed his mead cup down and was fidgeting with it. "How do you mean Finnr? he raised an eyebrow intringingly at his friends words.

"In East Anglia, after you were crowned King, I thought about pledging myself to you but I didn't"

Oswald gasped at the revealation. "Why didn't you? What stopped you from doing so?"

Finnr sighed, thinking back to that day. "Because Eivor convinced me to join her crew, and also I felt if I did I would be intruding on you and Valdis. I wanted to give you two privacy. I mean nobody wants a Steward hanging in the background when they're trying to make babies do they?"

Oswald flushed at the word of "Babies" before he quickly dug himself into the mead to drown out his flushed expression, he downed another glass as Finnr looked at him funny.

Hopefully he will think it's the mead that's doing it and not that I'm actually embarassed.

Composing himself as he put the mead cup down, he faced Finnr once more.

"Finnr, you wouldn't of been intruding on me and Valdis. Our marriage was a failure anyway and I wouldn't of minded you joining me. I actually could of done with a wise head. You know if you were there, perhaps you could of spoke to me properly and I wouldn't of been so stupid and reckless that day in battle. it would of been different"

Finnr looked at Oswald who was staring down at the table miserably instead of him. He placed a tender hand on his shoulder, trying to reassure him as Oswald slowly looked up upon feeling the touch on his shoulder.

"It's not your fault, Oswald. I was young and stupid once, I'm sure we all were - even the wisest of warriors make these mistakes. I'm sure Eivor has made a few of her own like these throughout her life, I know I definately have. The most important thing, is learning and growing through them"

Oswald nodded. "Thank you Finnr, that really means a lot. It's hard to think that when your all alone here and by yourself all day long, when everyone you love is down below on Earth and your just left here alone..." he flushed at the last part.

I overshared again. This is why you don't drink because then you'll be babbling stuff out that you normally don't say. He sipped another sip, once more trying to push the pain away.

"It's Eivor isn't it?" Finnr raised a knowing eyebrow towards his young friend. "You can't get over her and move on. Your still in love with her"

Oswald froze right at that very moment, almost spitting the mead out and hurting his nostrils in the process.

"Hhhh How do you know that?" he couldn't help but stutter out in shock

Finnr laughed. "It's obvious. It doesn't take a genius to work that out. We've all been there at one point, We all have. I've been on this planet many years and when I see a crush I can tell what it is"

Finnr took a sip as he thought back to his youthful years back in Denmark when he tried to woo the girls back in the Village he lived in, to no avail. He had felt the same dissappointment as well every time he was rejected. It was soul crushing.

Then one day, there was a woman. Finnr was in his early twenties when it happened, the same age as Oswald. He had fallen hard for her, and she had felt the same. Then one day something happened seperating them, her father had forced her in an another marriage to another Young Jarl for an alliance that she never wanted. Upset, Finnr had sailed to England in the hopes of finding a new purpose and a new start.

Although he distracted himself with burning and razing Villages, whenever he had time he would always think about his lost love, and how she was doing. It took years and years of perserverance to finally move on and let go, so he totally understood Oswald's feelings towards Eivor.

Oswald sighed giving in. I've been exposed, might as well tell him and lay my heart out on the table.

"I guess your right, I do - Finnr. I've also been meaning to ask you, Has she moved on since?"

Finnr couldn't help but be amused at the question as Oswald frowned at him as if to say "What?"

I guess I don't blame him, I used to think that about Freyja if she was happy with her new partner, or if they divorced just basically if she moved on from me.

"No" he shook his head, trying to hide an amused smirk "No actually she hasn't. I think her focus isn't on relationships these days, it's about building a life for herself and for the clan. I guess that's more important to her than any relationship"

Oswald's heart sank at those words, as he watched Finnr pick up the mead jug and refill his own cup before he proceeded to drink, gulping it down once more.

I guess I am not suprised, after all she did say her heart wasn't in it anymore... after what happened. The selfish side of me is happy that she is still single, but Who am I kidding? She made it clear that she wasn't interested anymore.

"I guess I am not suprised. She also said the same thing to me when we last saw each other. Who am I to Kid? As if I get a chance with her" he couldn't help but grumble bitterly at the last part.

Finnr stopped drinking from his cup, placing it down as he faced a bitter Oswald. Placing his hand on his shoulder as the young lad turned to face him once more he spoke reassuring,

"Oswald, it will be alright. It will get better with time, trust me." He said thinking back to Freyja and his own situation before he piped up grinning cheerily "You never know, there might be more fierce warrior women coming to Valhalla like Eivor, I know a few. I can set you up with someone" he nudged Oswald

Finnr grinned thinking back to the women back in Ravensthorpe that he had met such as Birna and Sunniva who were fierce and single. Perhaps he'll like Sunniva, She's pretty like Eivor and also knows how to put a man in his place, as with Birna - her ferocity might turn him on, he couldn't help but almost snicker aloud at the last thought.

"Hey!" he protested at being nudged, as Finnr couldn't help but let out a hearty chuckle. "There's no other woman here except for Svala, and she's not my type and way too old for me, she's more yours"

Finnr frowned confused. "Svala? Who's Svala?"

Oswald tutted as he rolled his eyes. "That blonde woman over there that you keep looking at out of the corner of your eye, that's her. Svala "

Now it was Finnr's turn to freeze. He hadn't realised that it was so obvious, he had been lost in his own thoughts, about how much she looked like Freyja that he had forgotten that Oswald was there.

Oswald smirked upon seeing Finnr so gobsmacked and frozen. "Go on. Talk to her. I'll be fine"

Finnr looked back at him astonished. "Really? You sure?"

"Yes" Oswald couldn't help but roll his eyes again "Go on Finnr, I know you want to"

Finnr grinned as his ears burned bright red. "Alright Oswald, I won't be long"

Oswald watched as Finnr left tapping him lightly on the shoulder, as he approached Svala in the distance, trying to flirt with her.

He smiled at them wistfully in the distance, as sadness began to creep up, holding the mead cup in his hand he swished it once again trying to distract himself.

At least Finnr is happy and he's found someone. When will my warrior and Valkyrie come? What if Valdis comes here too one day? Would she want to see me again, or Would she push me away again? I wonder how she feels about me right now...

Or should I just accept that I'll always be single forever?

His thoughts were interupted when Oswald looked up to see a grinning Finnr towering over him. He hadn't seen such a big smile from the man in so long, not in the time that he had known him. This was a first.

"It worked. She accepted me. We're to have our first date soon"

"Congratulations Finnr. That's good, honestly I'm really happy for you" Oswald smiled, clapping a hand on his friend's back.

"Thanks, Oswald" he gushed as he stared at the direction that Svala was walking in.

God, she's so beautiful. I've never seen a woman like this before, not since Freyja. Her words, her wisdom...

Oswald watched as Finnr continued daydreaming next to him, staring at the dissappearing Svala.

Turning his attention back to Oswald who was looked at him in an amused manner, he raised his mead cup.

"To Valhalla and to other endless glories, and to brotherhood and friendship. May we be best bros for life"

Oswald grinned as he placed his mead cup, hitting Finnr's as the mead swished around on impact, and the pieces of wood clinked at the sound.

"To brotherhood and Friendship. I like the sound of that"

"Cheers!" Finnr said as they both raised their glasses to drink in unison.

They slammed the cup down at the same time, as they stared at each other trying not to snort in laughter at the latter's action as Oswald felt a big grin and warmth that he hadn't felt in a long time.

For the first time in ages, he was happy. Truly for once. Perhaps being single wasn't so bad after all. Not when you had a brother and a friend like Finnr next to your side, for life.

Author's Note:I wasn't going to pair Finnr and Svala together, but it somehow just happened? I mean Svala is a pretty young norse woman and Finnr is a feisty middle aged raider, somehow the dyanmics of this ship just fits well. And lol Oswald with Sunniva, who would of thought? That would of been a different and a nice mix maybe, as with him being turned on by Birna's feisty voice that just made me snicker when I wrote that. Finnr is clueless, he has no idea that Birna is lesbian (having crushed on Soma) I guess the dude was just trying to cheer him up lol.

In case you didn't realise, Finnr actually saved Eivor's life in the raid. The fact that he was stood in front of her, prevented the arrow from penetrating and killing her instead. So she can live to do the canon events that are in the game (Vinland and Iceland etc)

Anyway hope you enjoyed this funny little story of two weird bros bonding with each other! Don't forget to comment or favourite if you made it this far, See you next time!
