The pro wrestling teenager looked out at the sea from Dagobah Municipal Beach. It was five in the morning; Izuku was wearing a black sweater and black sweatpants with dark shoes. The sun hadn't risen yet, but the sky was dark blue with hints of orange. After last night, he was thinking about what All Might's representative had said. He had ten months before he could take the Entrance Exam. That made the wrestler Deku think about what he'd been doing with his interest in pro wrestling.
He remembered when he was ten years old. He was scrawny and he wanted to find a place where he could learn wrestling. That's where he met Noko, who took him in. At first, he was just an errand boy, getting the gym ready for the wrestlers who were preparing for matches. That's where Izuku made the second volume of his wrestling journal about the guys Noko was working with. He saw many come and go, but they helped Izuku understand how wrestling worked. They showed him how to be a great character. How to shoot promos with such words and energy. And to show him how their quirks worked and how they used them in wrestling. So when Izuku began to train with them after finishing the errands, Noko took interest in having a quirkless preteen as a wrestler.
The promoter could see how dedicated Izuku was. Noko had never thought he would see a kid without a quirk be so passionate and willing to get himself stronger. He could see the hero otaku training hard after helping with errands and tasks to keep the promotion afloat. And it wasn't just him who saw Izuku's hard work; the other wrestlers could also see the teenager practicing moves.
After finishing school and doing his homework, Izuku would go to the gym to work out before setting up AMW. The wrestling show would entertain those who showed up. He remembered when not many people would show up. After much training, he wanted to make his debut. He asked Noko, who agreed to let him. When he told his mother about it, she was worried.
Four Years Ago
Inko said, "Izuku, you know I worry about you." She saw her son getting his stuff ready to go to the wrestling gym.
I know, Mom, but this will help me get stronger," Izuku pleaded as he picked up the gloves, knee pads, and a green tracksuit.
"But you're ten, and that Noko guy just let you wrestle?"
Izuku awkwardly chuckled how easy he got the chance to show the world how hard he trained and work.
Inko sigh before she hug her son. "I know. I just don't want my baby to get hurt. You know I worry a lot."
"Don't worry mom, I'll make you proud."
Before the quirkless wrestler in training stepped out, Inko quickly retrieved something from the house. Izuku watched as his mom ran out and showed him something she had sewn together. He would never take it for granted.
"I tried to copy your drawing... Hope you like it."
Izuku smile and gave his mother a hug. "I love it."
Izuku still wears the same mask during his wrestling matches. He has had it stitched up and cleaned after numerous times he was involved in hardcore matches, hair vs mask matches, and storylines where someone ripped his mask. No matter how many times it gets torn, he doesn't mind because the fans love the mask and have even bought mask merchandise. Of course, these are all cheap knock-offs so people can tell who's the real Deku.
Izuku chuckled at the memory of his first win in his debut match. The crowd actually cheered for him. He wasn't a kid who liked attention; he had been bullied when he was younger. But seeing people smiling, it made him confident, strong, and most importantly inspired to become a hero to save people and help the defenseless. He didn't care if he was ranked the lowest; as long as he could save and help, that's all he cared about. Still, it was good to have the skills to protect himself and others. He finished his self-training before going back home and preparing to start a new day.
After taking a shower and getting ready, he entered the school gates and walked into the building. As he entered the school, he noticed people were looking at him and whispering. Although it wasn't the first time peers had talked about him behind his back, this was different. They were smiling at him, waving at him, and he even saw some girls, who didn't even want to know him, giving him their attention. He kind of felt weirded out.
"You rock Midoriya!"
"You're so cool!"
"The great Gōrudobāgu continues to reign supreme!"
A quirkless kid, weirded out by people with quirks giving him attention, found it ironic. Usually, they wanted, and failed, to see him fall. Or they were afraid of him due to his knowledge of wrestling and quirks making him a danger to anyone who would try to harm him. So why was this happening?
"Hey Dek-"
The fat kid with wings yelped as Izuku glared at the peer who was associated with Bakugo. The once bright and soft green eyes were now a sharp glare. It wasn't the first time they had encountered each other. Heck, the winged brat was the first victim of Izuku's wrestling. Usually, the green-haired teen wasn't violent unless provoked.
"What is it?" Izuku asked with caution.
"I-I just came to say you looked cool in that wrestling match! Most of us saw it! PLEASE DONT HURT ME!"
Then Izuku was surprised to learn that they had watched his wrestling match with Itsuka Kendo. He knew sooner or later someone would discover his wrestling career; he just didn't know it was happening right now.
"Oh," he said before he quickly walked away, much to his bully's relief.
Izuku never really cared about school activities. The school never cared about him as a victim of quirkist bullying, so he never wanted to stand out. However, with all his wrestling skills, he had disrupted the school numerous times. The school only cared about their potential students with good quirks to make their school name big. So, imagine their disbelief when a quirkless kid could run circles around their trophy kids.
Still, he observed his classmates and peers for their quirks. Just because he's into wrestling, doesn't mean he's not geeky about quirks and heroes. He would write about quirks and the latest hero news in a designated location. Whether that would be behind the bleachers or in the library. Many people think he's a quirkless weirdo, but he just focuses on himself. With his newfound attention, it was alien to him to see his haters and bullies congratulating him.
Right now, he was on the roof sitting on the floor. He was writing in his Hero Journal Volume 13, writing about Mt. Lady as she was now becoming a popular hero. Although he personally thinks Kamui Woods was a better, he can still respect her for at least saving people as a hero.
When he was finished, he put away the Hero Journal and pulled out the Wrestling Journal Volume 13. His wrestling journal wasn't just written about wrestling; it also contained information on ways he could train. That's how he perfected most of his grappling and striking techniques for effective results. He turned to the page where he had written down potential uses for double elbows. He stood up and began swinging his elbows forward. He swung one elbow at a time, starting with a jab. Then, he brought his body forward for the second elbow to strike.
Izuku walked back and repeated the process to get a feel for how to strike better with his elbows. Suddenly, he heard a commotion that disrupted his short-term training. He turned around to see Bakugo with his lunch. This was certainly interesting.
"K-Kacchan? What brings you here?"
Izuku knows they aren't friends like they used to, but it was a habit to called him by his nickname.
"I want to fight you!" Bakugo exclaimed, dropping his lunch on the floor. "I saw what you did last night. I wanted to see if it was true that your stupid wrestling actually works in a real fight. But instead, I saw bullshit! You shouldn't have won that match! You were close to losing, but you pulled a stunt! So now it's my turn to end your stupid hero dream once and for all!"
Izuku was dumbfounded. Given the many times he can use his wrestling effectively, he thought Bakugo wouldn't want to challenge him. The blond has challenged him before, which was ten years ago when they were four. This was before he knew wrestling. Yet, here was his former friend in a fighting stance.
"I thought you didn't care? It's been a while since you wanted to take a swing," Izuku commented as he set up a stance. "What was it, when you were bullying others just so you could feel powerful?"
You know damn well I have a great quirk! I will go to UA by myself. They'll see I came from this shitty school, was their best student, and achieved greatness. Even if it means I have to fuck you up!
Izuku shook his head. He was disappointed to see his former friend seeking validation for his actions.
"If you really want to impress them, then you shouldn't have to do this," Izuku said. He was now ready to battle. "You're incredible, you have a great quirk! If anyone were going to UA, it should be you! But I'm not going to be held back. I'm going to UA too! Whether you like it or not!"
Shaking with fury, Bakugo took the first step. He was about to let his Explosive quirk out, but suddenly he felt an elbow uppercut right to his chin. It sent a numbing feeling across his body. He paused from the unexpected attack, only to get hit across the cheek by a spinning elbow a split second later. That was a sharp pain as his cheek was cut like a blade. Blood begin to drip down to the floor.
"Damn it!" shouted Bakugo as he use his quirk to jump upwards. "You were just lucky you shitty nerd!"
He aim his hand to Deku's face to ignite his explosion, but then the teenage wrestler grab his former friend's wrist to redirect the attack downward to the floor. Bakugo tried to get up, but Deku was holding down his hand on the floor. Suddenly in one quick motion, the wrestler slapped Bakugo. While a slap may seem to be weak for an offense move, Deku's occupation of chopping fellow wrestlers made his hands a dangerous weapon. So when the slap was connected, the self proclaimed number one's face was red and swollen on one side.
"What the fuck!?" Bakugo cursed in his head. When did a simple slap on the face make him feel such immense pain? He dropped to his knees, clutching the spot where he had been slapped.
"I'm sorry Kacchan," Izuku apologized to his former friend. "I know that was a hard one. But please reconsider this! We don't need to-"
"Shut up!"
Bakugo proceed to use his quirk to launch towards Izuku. The ash blond boy then change his maneuver to a swinging kick. It was a quick attack, but Deku manage to dodge it. Bakugo land on his feet and quickly turned around to eat a punch to the face. Once again he fell to the ground, this time landing on his butt.
"Please Kacchan! I don't want to hurt you!"
Bakugo looked up, and suddenly he saw Deku. He blinked to realize that they had reached a small river. He realized that this was when he had fallen off the log and landed in the water. Deku tried to help him up, but Bakugo pushed his former childhood friend away. That was the day they weren't friends anymore. That memory still riled him up. A quirkless boy trying to help someone with a quirk. How pitiful.
"How freaking dare you!" Bakugo yelled. "You don't look down on me and get away with that!"
He place his arms together and let out a large explosion. Izuku put his arms together and close to his face before the explosion came to contact. Everyone in the school felt the explosion rumbling the main school building and some saw a flash before it disappeared. Going back to the rooftop, Bakugo chuckled as he was getting.
"You see Deku, you are useless! You know the more I sweat, the more powerful my explosive are."
He look where he let his explosion off, seeing smoke. He jump forward to continue his attack. Sending many explosions, he can see Deku's figure crouching with his arms in front of his face and body. Bakugo smiled, seeing his former friend curled up in a shell. He stopped his barrage of explosions to rest as he was heavily breathing. As he thought it was over, out of nowhere, Izuku speared his former childhood friend out from the smoke. Bakugo oxygen was knock out of his lungs, before he landed hard onto the floor.
"Look, I didn't want to do this. But you made me no choice."
Bakugo looked up to see a glare on Izuku's face. A glare from the once shy and nervous Deku. Seeing his uniform burned up and slightly torn apart, Bakugo could see his peer with a muscular physique. He barely took any damage, with only minor burns, which was not what he had expected.
"If UA knew what you've been doing for the past ten years, they would have expelled you. I think every hero school would have expelled you. If I wanted to speak up, then I would have told them everything you did to me!"
What was the nerd trying to say? Bakugo was trying to get up and fight, but his body was giving up on him. Damn this stupid body and it's pointless weakness. He never thought the likes of Deku would make him eat dirty.
"But you know what, I didn't! You know why? Because I wanted to get myself stronger. Like I said Kacchan, you are incredible and I know would you make a great hero. But please, just stop trying to pose your strength on others!"
Bakugo then saw tears dripping down from Izuku eyes. The glare was gone. Just pain and sadness from those emerald eyes. Why was the damn nerd crying. He's should be the one cry from this aching pain on his body.
"I want to be a hero! I thought I was not going to get that chance, but then pro-wrestling saved me. It was because of wrestling that I want to get strong! To be able to battle those with quirks who use them for wrong! And unfortunately, you were my main rival because of it."
Izuku dropped to his knees in front of the downed Katsuki Bakugo. The teenage wrestler continues to weep.
"I really hoped you were happy for me as a friend, but you got more upset and distant. So I continue to work hard. Train hard and study every quirk I see to keep me on edge. Once I achieve this, then I can help people as a hero. But I never want to hurt you Kacchan. I just want us to be friends again. Please!"
Deku lend his hand forward, as a offer and apology to his former friend. Bakugo slowly got to his knees and stared at the roughened hands in front of him. What Deku said to him made him realize something. The damn nerd really did work hard.
Bakugo remembers when Deku was too weak to a push up. Now he's athletic enough to be an athlete. He remembers when Deku wanted to be the hero, he was too weak to defend attacks. Now he put him to the ground, bloodied and beaten. Deku being the wrestler was the best thing to happen to the nerd.
As a hero, there was a risk to protect those of need. Bakugo want to show his strength to prove he got what it takes to be a hero. He wants to be number one like All Might to show he's strong and powerful just like the current number one ranked hero. Deku didn't have anything to show reasons why he should be a hero. If anything, he was at the most risk to get kill in a short instance. Yet, when the hero otaku got caught up with pro wrestling, he changed. He got strong, smart, and knew how to handle situations. Situations he, the former childhood friend, set up with his minions because he was blessed with a powerful quirk for peers to follow. It used to work before Deku got stronger, more resistant to set backs.
Bakugo wanted to laugh. This was so ridiculous to give Deku an approval for his once stupid dream. A dream he well knew that would have ended in disaster. Seeing Deku, with no quirk, died from a villain who would have a quirk was too much to him. A reason he turned on his former friend. Was it to protect him or put him in his place away from danger? He doesn't remember the exact reason. He knows what he did is considering bullying and even prejudice to a quirkless person. Still, seeing Deku stronger now was hard to comprehend.
"Damn you Deku," Bakugo whispered. "You couldn't let go of your dream."
"What?" Izuku said, looking at his beaten former friend.
"To be a hero. I know being a wrestler wasn't your main dream. It was a way to help freaking reach it." Bakugo then grab hold of Izuku's hand with a hard grip. "You think you can wrestle without a quirk, and all of sudden your the best in the world! Over my dead body! You know UA won't let a worthless quirkless student in the hero course. You will die before you get to be a goddamn hero!"
Bakugo glared at Izuku for what feels like an eternity. The green wrestler was stunned what he hear, yet he smiled gently.
"Well then, I guess I have to train harder to prove you wrong."
Bakugo gasped, in disbelief what Deku just said. Then the quirkless boy grasp his hand harder to crushed the explosive's boy hand.
"What the fuck!?" Bakugo thought in pain.
Deku then bring both of them up to their feet. With Deku looking at his former friend with a cheerful expression and a thumb up.
"Well then, see you at UA then Kacchan. And Plus Ultra!"
For a second, Katsuki Bakugo felt like they were kids again. When the two would play heroes and dreamed that they were both going to UA to be heroes. This was before Deku was declared quirkless.
"In your shitty dreams," he answered, but with a grin. He's going to get him back for the beating
Then the feeling died when a teacher came to the rooftop to see burned marks, cracked concrete, and blood around.
"And that's how I'm here!" Izuku explains to his mom, who was shocked to hear he beat up Katsuki. "We're going to see each other at UA! And I know he's going to be there."
"But you got suspended for two months!" Inko cried out. "How are going to keep your grades up?"
The two were just leaving the school after the principal declared Izuku should be suspended for two entire month. Inko also found out that Katsuki Bakugo was bullying Izuku, which surprised her further since she wasn't aware, or told, about this.
"Don't worry mom, I can catch up!" Izuku declared with a beaming smile. It reminds Inko that her son is one of a kind. "I can also help out if you need help around the house!"
If she was told that raising a quirkless kid was hard, she felt that's an understatement. But still, Inko love her baby boy, no matter what. She watched him from this innocent boy who was given the worse news of having no quirk, to being a strong young man with a dream that seems impossible. A dream she didn't say no to. Well, it started when he got into wrestling.
She remembers when he really got his training going at ten years old, he was happier and joyful. Before then, he was exercising regularly, but he really bloomed after his tenth birthday when she gave him his first pair of dumbbells. He was so happy getting them, he built enough strength to use them easier. Not to mention, he was getting muscular and quicker than what she have seen in her life time. She remembers she had to get large clothes since Izuku's lean muscles would ripped his old clothes. She remembers when he was coming home, she came to see him covered in dried blood. She panicked and was going to give Noko an earful, but she saw her boy smiling and chuckling from her reaction, she decided to hold off on her actions. She was then told by her own son when he turn 14 years old, that he just compete his first hardcore match when he came home that day.
No matter what kind of wrestling matches he got into, he was happy and at peace. She knew pro wrestling saved him from the harsh reality they live in their social norms of quirks. Still, she knows he wants to be a hero just like All Might.
"Hey mom?"
"Yes dear?" she answered her son.
"I want to go to a place I recently got invited to."
"Izuku..."
"It's nothing dangerous!" Izuku panicked, knowing his path has probably worried his mom many times. "I met someone at a wrestling show. She invited me to meet her there."
Inko was happy he was seeing more people. Just another reason she was happy he found wrestling. But wait, she...
"You met a girl!" she shouted in glee. "How is she? What's her name? Is she a good person?"
"Mom," Izuku mumbled in embarrassment. "I just met her from a match."
"A match? Wait, you don't mean..."
"She's not a wrestler."
Inko sighed, for it was tiresome to have a wrestling son. And the possibility of a wrestling girlfriend would have stress her out. Especially one who fought her precious boy.
"She's a martial artist!"
Scratch that, this was even worrisome. From what she understood about pro-wrestling, it was mostly entertainment. Martial arts was a whole different situation. It's many fighting styles, which pro wrestling dos not falls under.
"Izuku," Inko spoke worried. "Are you sure you want to do that. This isn't what we have talked about."
"I know mom," Izuku answered. "I promise not to get hurt, and she's so cool! She has a quirk where she enlarge her hands, and with her fighting style, she's amazing."
Inko look at her boy giving a glowing praise to someone with a quirk. She knows her boy love to learn about quirks since it's how many becomes heroes. Her son would always write down many different quirks from different people. This also includes her. She even remembers how well he drew his favorite heroes with notes about their quirks. That love of being a hero was mix with his passion of wrestling.
"Okay dear, we'll check out that new friends place. What is this place you're going?"
"I'm going to her family's dojo!" Izuku said with a beaming smile.
A/N: So, our quirkless wrestling boy has gotten suspended. But that leaves room to finally meet up with Itsuka Kendo. Also, he was confronted by Bakugo and their rivalry has only sparked up competition of one another. I want to end it here so I can set up the train montage. Since he's heading to Itsuka's family dojo, he will learn martial arts to improve his skills set.
As for this chapter, I had little references to wrestling and MMA. The double spinning elbow was based on Tony Ferguson's move he does. The slap was based on how hard wrestlers would chopped opponent's chest, and a little of Power Slap.
Side note, I also want to thank Mr ChubbySnorlax619. I recently discovered Baki the Grappler, and it has influenced some ideas I want to write down for this fanfic. I haven't seen the other anime, but I'm going to check it out once I'm done with Baki. Well, that's all for this chapter! Hope you guys enjoy reading it.
