"I… I was just joking!" Greg stuttered. Hans sighed with relief. "Kai, I think it's time to go," he said. Kai turned to look at Gerda, then looked at his uncle. "Maybe I could stay here for a bit longer," Kai suggested. "This place doesn't seem like such a bad place to settle down, does it uncle?" Hans sighed. "Maybe," Hans muttered to himself. Kai smiled a hopeful smile when he heard that.
Suddenly Hans saw someone in the distance. Was that Anna? If it weren't for the tiara on her head, Hans would have thought she'd dressed herself to attend a funeral, for she was dressed mostly in black. "Kai, let's go back to the ship for a moment," Hans said. "Let's take a look at your things." Kai nodded, then turned and said to Gerda, "Don't worry, Gerda, I'll be right back." Gerda wasn't so sure about this. Hans held Kai's hand tightly as if he was afraid of losing them. They walked for quite some time until they made it onto their ship. Once they were on the ship, Hans led Kai into Kai's cabin. Then when Kai least suspected, Hans shut the door of the cabin and locked it. Now they were both stuck inside and only Hans had the key on him. "Uncle, how could you?" Kai yelled, while he tried breaking down the door. "Kai, I just want you to listen to me for a few minutes," Hans said. "Is that so much to ask?" "You didn't have to lock the door," Kai grumbled. "Fair enough," Hans replied. "But can you promise to listen to me?"
Kai nodded nervously but kept silent. Hans reluctantly unlocked and door and opened it. Kai made no attempt to leave the cabin. "If you want to stay in Arendelle, you're probably going to have to stay there without me," Hans said.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm not stupid regarding what the royal family of Arendelle thinks about me. The last time I was here, Queen Elsa was so desperate to send me back to the Southern Isles that she had her guards throw me on a French ship."
"Why did the guards throw you on a French ship?"
"The ship that brought me to Arendelle sailed away, so she threw me on a ship that was heading towards the Southern Isles. Since then, she's made it very clear that I'm not welcome in Arendelle."
Kai raised his eyebrows. "Uncle, it's been 23 years since you attempted to take the throne," he said. "But, Kai, didn't you see kids hitting that piñata that looked like me?" rebutted Hans. Kai struggled to think of a rebuttal to this. "For all I know, Queen Elsa isn't a tyrant," Kai finally said. "If you're sorry, I'd expect her to forgive you and let you stay here." "But am I sorry enough?" Hans asked.
"You do regret what you did in Arendelle, don't you, uncle?"
"Well, yes… and no. It's been so long, there are times I almost forget why I tried to take the throne of Arendelle in the first place. But if things went differently, who knows whether I would have ended up on this ship with you."
"Good point! But then again, it's been 23 years. I don't think Elsa would hold a grudge for that long. Or at least I hope so."
Hans looked at Kai with a thoughtful expression on his face. "You win," Hans conceded. "I should apologize to Elsa. Although, I have no idea where to begin. Do you think I should write something down?" Kai nodded in agreement. The two of them didn't know that Gibbons and Crowley were secretly listening to them from outside the cabin. Crowley was a man who appeared to be in his late 40's. He was relatively thin, had brown skin, and had terrible looking teeth. Neither of them was pleased with what Hans and Kai were discussing.
In the kingdom of Arendelle, the countdown would soon begin for a massive fireworks display. It was around sunset now, and the fireworks would fire at sundown. Liz, Merry, James, and Finn, rode their wagon down a deserted alleyway. There was no one else there because the alleyway wasn't a good place to view fireworks. On the wagon, there was a cannon. They took it out and lowered it to the ground. Then they positioned it so that it faced one of the walls on a building. The countdown began.
"10… 9… 8… 7… 6… 5… 4…"
Liz lit the fuse on the cannon. She knew that the building would be deserted because the people inside would have left the building to look at the fireworks.
"… 3… 2…1…0."
Boom went the fireworks and boom went the cannon. The cannonball struck the brick wall, leaving much of the wall destroyed. Inside the building was a large safe, for the building was a bank. They slowly raised the safe onto the wagon and secured it with ropes, because ropes were lighter than chains. James and Finn tried to place the cannon onto the wagon, but Liz said, "Leave it! We need to travel lightly." Suddenly, they heard the sound of a whistle in the distance. The captain of the guards saw them! "Scoundrels!" the captain roared. "I'll have the law on you!" "Run! Run!" shouted Liz. The bandits leapt onto the wagon and rode away. The captain wasted no time gathering the troops to catch them. He gathered three horses and rode one of them. Two other guards rode with him. Soon they were gaining on the bandits. The captain took out a pistol and fired a bullet at the wagon. The bullet hit the rope securing the safe. This caused the safe to fall out of the wagon and onto the ground. The door of the safe flung open and gold coins spilled out from it. "Look at all that gold!" shouted a little girl. Many people swarmed around the safe and picked up the coins. "Damn it!" Liz muttered to herself. "All this effort for nothing." But at least the crowd that had gathered around the safe had made it easier for them to escape the guards.
Meanwhile, Anna was in a tent preparing to give a speech. She practiced in front of a photograph of Elsa. Her steward entered the tent and placed his hand on her shoulder. "Your majesty, it's time," he said. Anna nodded. She took one last look at the black and white photograph of her sister and said, "I won't let you down, Elsa!" Then she walked outside. She made her way towards the statues of her parents, which she had recently covered with a giant sheet. She stopped at the bottom of the statues, and then clapped her hands. Inger and Gerda stood within the crowd watching her. "Um…" said Anna, addressing the crowd. "There are no words to describe how privileged I feel to be unveiling this…" She paused for a moment, and then continued.
"… the new statues I built. Well, to be specific, I didn't build these statues, but I ordered my craftsmen to build them. I remember Elsa standing not far from here 20 years ago. She was making gifts for children using her powers. I remember a girl asking her to make a navigational device for her. I think it was a sextant. Elsa struggled with that… hee… he… didn't she? But she managed to make the sextant for her in the end."
Anna's speech went on longer than anybody anticipated. Inger began to get bored with Anna yakking on about Elsa, and she yawned a little. "Now for the unveiling of the statues," declared Anna, concluding her speech. She pulled away the sheet covering the statues of her parents. Everyone saw that statues of Anna, Elsa, and Olaf surrounded the statues of King Agnarr and Queen Iduna. The statues depicted Elsa and Anna as kids. "Olaf doesn't count as part of our family," Inger muttered to herself. Gerda rolled her eyes upon hearing this. The crowd erupted with applause when the statues had been unveiled.
Suddenly, Anna felt a rope fall around her waist. "Wait, what!?" Anna gasped. Merry had lassoed the rope around her. Anna now felt herself being literally dragged around the kingdom by a wagon. "Well done, Merry," complimented Liz, while she drove the wagon. "The queen will make a great hostage for ransom money. First we'll take the Queen with us and hide her somewhere safe. Then soon after that, once we've figured out a price, we'll send out a letter asking for ransom money." "Mum!" shouted Gerda. "Get back here, you cowards, and let my mum go!" Inger and Gerda ran as fast as they could to catch up with the bandits, but Gerda ran faster. Liz drove the wagon as fast as she could, but already she could see a legion of guards forming in the distance ahead of her. She drove into the harbor where THE THROWAWAY was nearby, and there were no guards in the harbor. She pointed a pistol at Anna's head and said, "Move quickly, or I'll blow your brains out." "If my sister were here she'd freeze…" Anna defiantly began. "No one cares about your sister," shouted Merry, before slapping Anna hard. "Move it!"
Anna reluctantly walked up the ramp with Merry, James, Finn, and Liz, and boarded THE THROWAWAY. Merry cut the ropes securing the ship to the jetty, and the ship drifted away on the wings of the wind. "I'll take that," said Merry, taking the tiara from Anna's head. "I wonder what price this'll fetch."
At that time, Hans and Kai were in the cabin. Hans was practicing the apology he was going to make to Anna.
"Anna, my actions were cold and callous. For a long time, I was ignorant about how evil my actions were. But then I met my nephew, who, in his love for me, opened my eyes to many things. Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proudor rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Anna, Elsa, I am sorry, and I deserve to die for my crimes. But three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love."
Once Hans had finishing reading the speech he'd written, Kai clapped his hands. "That speech was quite something!" Kai exclaimed. "Maybe it could be improved, but you did pretty well." "Some parts of my speech were quotes from that book your father left you," admitted Hans. "Oh…" said Kai, who was a bit disappointed. Hans and Kai felt the ship swaying. "Uncle, what's happening?" Kai asked. "It's just the wind," Hans answered. "I'm sure it's more than just the wind," said Kai. "I'm certain I felt the ship move away from the jetty. Perhaps we'd better take a look." Hans nodded, and the two of them left the cabin. What they saw when they left the cabin surprised both of them. Anna was standing on one side of the ship. Liz pointed a pistol at her head. "Liz? James? Finn?" Hans gasped. "What are you doing here? It's been so long!" Then Hans noticed Anna. "Anna?" he gasped nervously. "Um… how are you doing? I have mixed feelings about seeing you right now. But I just want to tell you I'm sorry-"
The ship swayed, causing Liz to lose her balance. Anna broke free from Liz's grasp, and she raised her fists and charged at Hans. Unlike the last time, this time Hans managed to dodge Anna's fist, and he moved out of the way, causing Anna to accidentally fall off the side of the ship into the water.
