Episode 34: Through Despair We Find Hope (Epilogue)

It had been many years since their home and most of Japan was destroyed.

A few months after the bombs were dropped, everyone was sleeping when they heard a large number of footsteps.

Ad they prepared for a fight, they were met with remaining members of the Japanese Self Defense Force and soldiers wearing navy blue military uniforms with large yellow print that said "U.N." on them.

When every was put together into the center of the mall, their makeshift home, a Japanese soldier started to talk to them.

(Soldier 1) Hello everyone. We are here from the remaining Japanese Defense Force and the United Nations Peacekeepers. We are here to help the survivors of the Infestation.

Everyone was overjoyed, but the soldier had more to say.

(Soldier) Before we continue, is anyone infected?

Everyone looked at each other and told the soldier no.

(Soldier) Good. We'll need to run a few tests back at the nearest established base, so please come with us.

Ranma looked behind a soldier. A few from the JSDF and U.N had tears in their eyes, but were smiling.

(Ranma) What's up with them.

(Soldier) Well, I don't blame them. For the last month, we've been searching for survivors. We've also been exterminating the Infected. Some of the dead Infected we've seen so far looked like they were... younger when they were alive.

Your group. It's.. It's the only one we have found in the entire prefecture that had survived. The soldier himself started tearing up.

(Soldier) Your group gives us hope that there are others out there.

The soldier wiped his tears and addressed everyone.

(Soldier) Excuse me for my lack of professionalism. Please, we have vehicles nearby that we can use.

Everyone was walking outside when the Soldier pulled Ranma to the side.

(Soldier) If it's okay, I have a few personal questions to ask you.

(Ranma) Sure I don't see why not.

(Soldier) Where is your group from specifically?

(Ranma) Half of us are from Nerima and the others are from Juban.

The soldier looked down at the ground.

(Soldier) I see. I am sorry, but the base is on a ship... which is near a seaport near there. We will also be taking the safest route, which is through Nerima.

Ranma had no words. He drew a blank. He was going to see the destroyed remains of what he used to call home.

(Ranma) What was the other question?

(Soldier) How did you all get here from Nerima?

(Ranma) We used those.

Ranma pointed at the Ae86 and the 4Runner.

(Soldier) And they were able to withstand the roads all the way here?

(Ranma) Yes.

(Soldier) Would they make it back to Tokyo?

(Ranma) Yes.

(Soldier) If we do not have enough room, I ask that you use those with us.

Everyone was loaded with their families into the beds of transport trucks that were nearby.

Ranma took Akane with him in the 86. Genma took Shampoo and Cologne with him in the 4Runner and they all left their second home in Niigata.

Soldiers that spoke Japanese quietly told parents before they left and advised them to close their children's eyes due to the path they had to take.

They drove. It was long. Not because of the route they were taking, but because all that surrounded them was destruction.

After an hour and a half, they were back in Nerima. Half of the buildings they passed were demolished. There were pieces of houses everywhere, along with a few charred remains of Infected.

But soon, they were passing their first home, the Tendo household. The home itself was still standing, the wooden arches were burned, but still standing. Soun and Kasumi held each other and sobbed as they passed the home. Nebiki just looked at the structure. Tears streamed down her face as she thought of days when she was sitting on the cold, wood floors with her sisters, her father... and her mother. She cried silently for the rest of the trip.

As Ranma and Akane came up the home. Akane pleaded with tears stream Ranma to stop, but he shed tears as he tried to calmly tell her no.

(Akane) Ranma... stop. Ranma, please Stop. Ranma, why aren't you stopping, can't you see we're home?

(Ranma) No Akane, we can't stop, we have to keep going.

(Akane) But... we're here. You can stop and we can go inside for a second.

(Ranma) I'm sorry Akane... but we have to go.

(Akane) But, we're home. It's all over. We're here.

Akane started getting more desperate.

(Akane) Ranma, please! RANMA! STOP THE CAR, PLEASE! NO! NONONONONO, PLEASE! I CAN'T LEAVE YET.

As they passed the home, Akane become quiet, but still shedded tears

(Akane) Ranma... Please... go back. I can't just leave it like that.

She repeated the sentence for a while then went silent. For the rest of the trip, she just stared forward, not making a sound or crying anymore tears.

Later, the convoy reached Juban. Parents had forgotten to cover their children's eyes as they were dumbstruck as they saw that their city, was no just a flat pile of ruin. Their homes, their offices, their hospitals, their schools and the Shrine were all gone.

The parents were all holding each other or holding a soldier as each one once more longed to go home, to a time where they were home with their families or spending time at work or anything else that wasn't THIS.

The children watched but couldn't understand what they were looking at, so they sat confused when their parents were crying and the place they were looking at.

They were all taken to a large transport ship that was fitted with tents that were used for taking tests and getting results. Ranma and Genma were worried that their tests would say that they had traces of the Infestation.

Shampoo and Cologne were worried that the people would kick them off since they were from the Infestations place of origin.

After the test were complete, everyone was relieved that nobody was kicked off.

From there, they met other groups of survivors who also survived. But the feeling of joy was short lived due to how very few groups there were. Everyone was set inside of the ship and stayed there until they left the Harbor.

The feeling was amplified due to the fact that there were only five other groups by the time the ship. What made it worse was that the number of these groups matched the number of Ranma's group alone.

After a few days though, the ship left the Harbor after no other survivors were found across Japan. As it turned out, there were hundreds of ships from different countries coming to Japan.

Ranma tried to find a soldier, but could only find one by wandering around. When he did find one, he asked. Hopefully, studying English from Nabiki would help.

(Ranma) Excuse me? Where are we going?

(Soldier) We are headed for Hawaii, USA, then California, USA.

(Ranma) Thank you!

(Ranma)(Wow! I guess learning from Nebiki actually worked. Who would've thought...)

YEAR: 1998

It had been ten years since Ranma and everyone else made it to the U.S.

Everyone was able to find footing in this new place. But collectively, everyone moved to the next state over from California, Arizona. Specifically, Flagstaff, Arizona.

It felt like Nerima, except for the ocean. It felt like a small town, had similar weather and the people were nice and welcoming.

Ranma founded a dojo with his family and the Tendos. The families from Juban each found a job in their respective fields. Kenji Tsukino started working for a hospital, which was the same hospital that Saeko Mizuno worked for as a doctor. Grandpa Hino founded a Shrine which was still standing after ten years. He had his granddaughter, who was now a 16 year-old teenager, working for him while she went to school with the other children, who were also teenagers now.

When Ranma saw them together, he remembered the teenagers from the alternate future. The teenagers he saw in front of him looked and sounded the exact same as the ones from the future.

October 19th, 1998, 12:49 P.M.

Ranma had just finished a class in his female form, his female form aged with him into his 20's taller and faster. He was now at the point that he had to slow down so everyone could see what he was doing

He was walking home with Akane, to a home that was a replica of their home in Japan. Soun and Genma insisted on doing it themselves and it came out surprisingly perfect.

When they walked in though the gate, they were almost scared to death when Soun ran out of the house like a mad man.

(Soun) RANMA! AKANE! We could go back!

(Ranma) What are you talking about old man?

Before Akane could interject, Soun was dragging the two into the common area where he had the news on with a paper in his hands.

(News Reporter) Hello Arizona, I'm - and I'm here with - and do we have news for you! We are here to tell you that, if you or someone you know was migrated from Japan after the Infestation ravaged the world. Then tell them that they're in luck!. For free, the U.S. Government is giving free transportation to those from Japan to return after a global project has finished in which new, futuristic technology was able to help restore every structure in the affected areas.

(News Reporter)If you're from Japan and you're watching this, then let me tell you. You can finally go home. It's all there waiting for you. You just have to go over there and see it for yourself.

The news became a distant sound as everyone watched. Could they do it? Could they really go back?

Ranma's cellphone began to ring. It was Nebiki.

(Nebiki) Ranma. I was looking at the schedule and-

(Ranma) Nebiki.

(Nebiki) What? What is it?

(Ranma) We can go home.

Nebiki dropped her professionalism

(Nebiki) What the hell are you talking about?

(Ranma) The News just said that everything just got fixed and we could actually go back to Nerima! We can go home!

Ranma heard Nebiki quietly choking back tears on the phone

(Nebiki) Really...?

(Ranma) Cancel the next few weeks worth of classes, we're gonna check this out ourselves.

It seemed that everyone they came with had the same idea. They went to check out their home to see if it really was restored.

October 19, 2023

It was a fall afternoon. Ranma and Akane were on the porch with the rest of the family. Genma, Nadoka, Soun, Kasumi and Nebiki. They were also with their friends, Ryoga, Shampoo and Cologne.

(Akane) Can you guys believe that Ranko is already turning 19 today? It was like the time just flew by.

(Ryoga) No kidding, how do you think we feel when Mousse is already gonna turn 21!?

(Genma) I just can't believe that I have a grandson.

(Soun) Me neither Saotome.

Ranko. Daughter of Ranma Saotome and Akane Saotome, heir to the School of Anything Goes Martial Arts. She got her bright blue eyes from her grandmother, Nodoka Saotome. She got her facial looks and hair from Ranma Saotome and she got her blue hair from Akane Saotome. The thing that makes Soun the happiest though, is that she sounds just like their mother when she was younger.

Mousse. Son of Ryoga Hibiki and Shampoo Hibiki, a male of the Chinese Amazon Tribe. He got his purple eyes from Shampoo. He got his black hair from Ryoga. He got his long hair style from Cologne. The thing that makes Shampoo the happiest though, is that her own son reminds her of the first man that was able to charm her, but didn't get the chance to love her. The boy even wears a similar robe to Mousse, which now fits after years of it being oversized.

Even though they are from two different families, Ranko and Mousse treat each other like family. If one gets into a fight, the other will drop anything to help the other. If one loses, the other is there to cheer them up.

They were inseparable ever since birth. Always wanting to show each other moves they learned from their parents. Even now, they are best friends.

After Ryoga's outburst, the wooden gate opened to reveal Ukyo and her daughter Kyuko. Kyuko happened after Ukyo found love with a person named Tsubasa Kurenai, who took Ukyo's last name after they got married back in 2007.

(Ranma) Hey Ukyo, how've you been? And who's that with you?

(Ukyo) Hey Ranma. Kyuko come on, you have to stop being embarrassed to meet people.

Kyuko came out from behind Ukyo to reveal a little girl that looked exactly like Ukyo when they were little kids.

Everyone was hanging out for a bit when the large wooden door opened again. This time, it was the families who had been with them when they left and came back.

All of the adults had grey hair and their children were now adults.

Everyone was happy to see each other. Laughs were shared, stories were told, introductions were made and announcements were made.

It was great. It was as if nothing ever happened.

I wish I could've been down there with them. To hug my daughters, kiss my husband and meet their friends.

I still can't believe they're all grown up now.

Oh Ms. Tendo, don't get too emotional, you'll start crying like you did 20 years ago when I first got here.

(Ms. Tendo) Thanks Mousse. Sorry if I was getting to that point. It's just nice to see that my family is okay.

(Mousse) Yeah, I know what you mean. I loved that girl when we were the same age. Now, she's as old as you and has a son.

(Ms. Tendo) This may sound cruel Mousse, but I can't wait until they get here so I can hear their story from them, instead of watching from afar.

(Mousse) I hear ya. But we have to be patient. Their time will come and we will be waiting for them.

This is the End of Ranma 1/2: Anything Goes in the Apocalypse

Thank you to everyone for reading.

This was my first fan fiction and I am so happy that I was able to share it with all of you. I know my writing may seem quick, but every word on these documents is thought of, planned and written over hours of just imagining the situation and how it plays out.

This is not the end for me though, I have other projects in the works.

But seeing how everyone read my work at all made me so happy to see.

This will be the last episode of Ranma 1/2: Anything Goes in the Apocalypse for now and possibly ever.
