Chapter 20!

20 chapters! Another milestone for this story. Once more, this chapter happens the same night as the previous one so they're 23 and engaged.

Enjoy, more notes at the end!

Usagiyama

*Rumi POV*

Rumi often fell asleep second.

It was natural since she was more active in the later half of the day, and because she woke up later than Midoriya, so she tried to settle herself down as she listened to her sleeping partner's even breaths. She and Midoriya were already engaged so naturally getting married was what was going to follow, though the winged woman was going over every small detail with a fine-toothed comb, but Rumi had to wonder what that could exactly mean. Their conversation just now had brought it to the front of her mind and though she wasn't one to overthink things she just couldn't get it out of her head.

It wasn't as if she regretted any of it, how could she, but there was a part of her that was curious about what was next for them after that point. She didn't think things would differ much, since she knew they didn't have to change at all, and they'd still bicker and love each other regardless while also running through the country as heroes before returning right back to each other at the end of each day. Rumi didn't really care much for fretting over things and she found that doing so was making her feel a bit tired. Her eyes drooped and her mind slowed down. After she slept she could think about it more.

But maybe her dreams had the answers.

"Off to cause trouble again, Usagiyama?"

A team up.

Their first, and perhaps greatest, display as an unlikely duo. Rumi fought opponent after opponent but she was most aware of the winged girl who defended her back. Time after time they each covered the other and at the end they stood equal. There was maybe even a small smile on Midoriya's face as they ran and flew away side by side.

"Don't you dare, Usagiyama!"

The ocean.

Rumi could recall a mix of laughter and complaints. Both of them hurled insults at each other out of a mix of immaturity and a little of something else before they crashed into the waves. The sound of the tide and their exhausted breaths followed as they squirmed out of each others' grasp and in that moment only the two of them existed.

"Don't just start stripping, Usagiyama."

Summer.

It was one of the first times that Rumi had ever asked something of Midoriya and the greenette's sudden exclamation revisited Rumi that night. Midoriya was attracted to her and that thought comforted her all the way into her dreams.

"Until next time, Usagiyama!"

Mount Misen.

It was where they had said their first goodbye and Rumi watched as Midoriya took off into the star scattered sky. The cooling feeling in her now empty hand as she was left alone on the mountain top was perhaps the first sign that she could no longer live without her.

"Enough with that smug look, Usagiyama."

A secret moment.

Rumi had the one she had desired for so long in her embrace and knowing that this was mutual only spurred her on. They had shifted this dance of theirs and finally acknowledged 6 years of feelings. Midoriya was hiding her face but Rumi wanted to see every side of her.

"Yes, yes, I love you, Usagiyama."

A hazy party.

If there was only one thing that Rumi would remember that night it was that they had become engaged. Midoriya's hold was firm as she carried her out and Rumi felt secure in her arms while alcohol and a simple declaration of love made her feel warm and fuzzy.

They were all memories, moments that Rumi was fond of, between the two of them that showed how their relationship grew. She could recall these times and even look at them with different thoughts now that they were together but suddenly new scenes began to float through her mind. New dreams that promised many more things down the line.

"Ready, Usagiyama?"

A wedding.

Midoriya was next to her, her hand raised for Rumi to take, and the rabbit woman was transfixed by the sight. A beautiful dress, hair and makeup done with great care, and those green eyes that gazed upon her warmly, all of it was done with her in mind and she couldn't help but marvel. Rumi raised her hand, only able to follow along, and she quickly realized that they were walking one another down the aisle. Neither was waiting for the other, nor going to the other, but instead right beside them as they should be.

"Like we promised. I don't regret it, Usagiyama."

An unfamiliar house.

Midoriya looked different, more normal, and Rumi heard unknown laughter elsewhere in the house. There were two different voices and excited footsteps while Midoriya glanced over fondly. Rumi recognized the look, recognized it from her own parents, and she too looked over to catch glimpses of a different pair of white-ish hair passing by.

"I'm right here, Usagiyama."

Cherry blossoms.

They were older now. Midoriya's hair was starting to grey and some lines were more pronounced around her mouth and eyes while her expressions seemed to have softened from how Rumi knew her currently. She was right by her side and looking into her eyes lovingly as their fingers intertwined and Rumi knew that even after many years Midoriya was still the woman that she could only ever love more.

More and more scenes, both familiar and not, played as Rumi dreamed on and though she felt overwhelmed there was always something she caught perfectly above anything else.

"Usagiyama..."

Exasperation.

"Usagiyama..."

Desire.

"Usagiyama..."

Affection.

She could listen to her own name forever.

*Izumi POV*

Izumi often awoke first.

It was natural since she was strict with her schedule and herself, and because Usagiyama was not a morning person, so Izumi briefly stretched as she sat on the side of the began once she'd slipped out from beneath the covers. Usagiyama would likely sleep for at least another hour, and even then she would still be lethargic, but that did not mean that Izumi could not begin her day. Finishing the last of her simple waking up routine, the tengu woman prepared to get up but she felt arms wrapping around her stomach and her partner pressing her face into her back. It had stunned her for all but a second, given how uncommon it was, and she was about to greet her lover until she felt the grip tighten every so slightly.

"Take my name," Usagiyama said, her voiced muffled against Izumi's back, and the greenette paused.

It was a sudden request, and the way that she said it surprised her since she had already ceded to taking her surname already, but Izumi placed her hands atop Usagiyama's. The tengu woman doubted that she would ever see her like this again, so vulnerable, but that was besides the point. Leaning back into the warm embrace, Izumi closed her eyes and a fond smile touched her lips.

"Okay."

Notes and Stuff

I don't know why but the way I hear Izumi say 'Usagiyama' in my head is just something I really like.

All the lines up to the proposal are quoted directly from earlier chapters/parts of their lives. Although Izumi already would have been fine taking Rumi's name she is now definitively going to do so.

We're going to be heading into even earlier flashback territory, when they first met, and those will be mainly from Izumi's POV so get ready for that.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and look forward to more updates from me!
