Recap...
Despite how nice and inclusive this world seemed to be. Staying on water... just didn't seem like something she wanted for the rest of her life. And what of Sasuke? She was finally getting the Uchiha to open up to her. And she just up right disappears. Shaking her head, Sakura blinks. Her eyes feeling heavy as she rested her cheek on the palm of her hand.
"Sasuke... Naruto, Tsunande.. even Kakashi Sensei. They'll save me." She murmurs to herself quietly.
"Just a little while longer Sakura.. you got this." Sakura whispered to herself, hopeful.
Sakura woke early the next day. Bypassing the option to eat, and heading straight to the medical wing on the ship. She hoped she run one more scan on Ace, before he had the chance to wake up. Who knows how the teen would react to seeing her.
When Sakura entered, she quickly recognized Whitney and Marco. Both standing beside one another, talking in hushed voices.
Whitney saw her first, nudging Marco. The blonde commander grew silent, turning with Witney to face Sakura.
"Everything alright?" Marco asked, raising an eyebrow in her direction. Sakura nodded, pointing to the - thankfully - unconscious fire user.
"I hoped to run one last scan. It's.. just a precaution I like to take." Sakura tried her best to explain.
She had made it a rule, to double check your patient. Triple check if the wounds had been fatal. It didn't matter if you were the best medical ninja in the world. Some things were just easily missable. And her mom enforced rule had saved many of her patients. Including others in the hospitals care.
Marco simply shrugged at her question. "Sure, have at it." He said flatly.
Sakura grinned, walking towards the cuffed teen. Still sleeping. She ran her chakra over his body, taking her time to look in ever nook and cranny. Coming up empty, which was a good sign. Her eyes swept over the healed skin on the kids forehead from where he took Edward's hit. No redness or swelling.
Sakura had been worried that her healing, would have some type of negative effect to people in this world. Yet thanks to the small amount of chakra- healing was still possible. And the amount of stress that was lifted off her shoulders at that thought was relieving.
"Everything good?" Marco spoke up, and Sakura swirled around. Whitney watched her with some type of confusion and fascination.
"Yeah, everything's good." Sakura agreed, stepping back and away from the bed. Marco hummed.
Sakura walked towards the two doctors, lifting her head to meet their gazes.
"Heard Marco was trying to get you to join our division. The work you did on Jinbei was amazing, barely anything left but exhaustion." Whitney praises, smiling.
Sakura grinned, fighting down a flush that threatening to appear. It was nice, when people praised her accomplishments. Made Sakura feel... like an accomplished medic.
"Thank you, I hope I'm accepted. I'd love to work on the ship while I stay." Sakura tilts her head as she talks. And Whitney seems to react positively to her words as well.
"Oyaji wouldn't waste an opportunity like this. We'll get you accustomed to the division once word gets out." Marco speaks up, drawing the pinkette's attention.
They speak for some more after, before Whitney dismisses herself with a wave. Walking out of the medical wing; and leaving her and Marco standing alone.
"How long do you think the kid will be unconscious for? I didn't get to see how hard Edward might have.. hit him." Sakura asks as the silence goes on.
Marco blinks once, than twice, his eyes trailing towards the teen. "Probably later today. Or tomorrow. Since his injuries are healed I expect today." Marco answers her question, nodding to himself.
Sakura bites the inside of her cheek, sighing. "Alright, yeah. Sounds good." She murmurs, before waving goodbye towards Marco. Making her way out of the medical wing and towards the top of the deck.
There weren't a lot of pirates out on deck today. A few who were crouched down- cleaning and doing other odd ends. A few commanders she recognized, but didn't know well enough to approach. And Edward was seated further away, getting fussed on by some of the ships nurses.
Sakura stood there, staring out. Unsure of what to do now that she had the free time. So used to having stacks of paperwork to fill out. Or patients to tend to. It wasn't uncommon for her to have multiple surgeries a day either. So it was odd, and a little boring for the medic nin.
Her mind drifted to Ino, wondering how the blonde was reacting. If she remembered correctly, they had planned a girls night out the day she disappeared. Sakura would have to apologize if she ever got the chance, for ditching her. Even if it wasn't exactly her fault.
Before her thoughts could wonder more, a chill breaks out across her spine. The hairs on the back of her neck sticking up, alarmingly.
"Lost in thought?" A man asked. And Sakura found the voice familar.
She spun around, coming face to face with the man she had ran into not long ago. Teach. Gritting her teeth, she shoved down the suspicion that plagued her- and smiled.
"Yeah, I'm quite bored." She answered, keeping her words vague.
The man laughed, his voice loud and gruff. It wasn't a pleasant laugh. Shaking her head, Sakura scowls at herself. She was being rude for no reason, perhaps the man was simply strong, and being in an unknown environment - away from her comrades was making her more on edge than she needed to be.
"Understandable, being on the open sea can have its downfalls." The man agreed, his grin wide.
"Say, you never did answer my question that one time. You come from an island?" Teach asked, changing the topic.
Sakura gulped, wracking her brain for a good answer. "Yeah, I suppose." She gets out instead. Despite how suspicious that answer seemed to be.
Teach opens his mouth, despite Sakura wishing he would simply leave, but a shout cuts him off.
"A Ship's been spotted!" An unknown man yells.
Sakura finally lets her eyes leave the larger man, looking out towards the sea. Indeed, a ship is sailing. Right in their direction. Not many people seem to panic, so Sakura seems it safe to simply watch from afar. Releasing a sigh as Teach walks off, but not before sparing her a side-ways glance.
Marco, including some of the other commanders make their way towards the top part of the deck. Walking towards Edward, and surrounding the bottom of his chair. A few other pirates break out into murmurs, and Sakura shuffles her way over where Thatch and Marco stand. Her face curious as to how this group would handle this.
Thatch turns to her first. "I forgot to mention, but we have a lot of rookie pirates who like to challenge Oyaji." He whispers to her.
Sakura tilts her head. "Challange?"
"Yeah, people try to take Oyaji's head to claim his title as the strongest man in the world." Thatch replies quietly.
Sakura's brow raises, and she turns to watch the ship come to a standstill beside the large ship of the Whitebeard pirates. A cocky looked man with a smug smirk walks onto the ship. His chin held high as he looks around the deck. A few other pirates come up behind him.
Their clothes are colorful, the captain- so it seems- is wearing a large red hat, and a red cape that pools on the ground. It's very impractical, Sakura notes as she looks him up and down. He looks to be a sword user, if the sword strapped to his side is anything to go by.
The others behind him are wearing similar outfits, with the same red coloring scheme. A few had odd mechanisms, a few with swords. Quite boring, the more Sakura looked them over.
"Edward Newgate! I'm Captain Johnson of the Red Riot Pirates." The unknown captain, Johnson, exclaimed loudly.
He unsheathed his sword, pointing the tip in Edward's direction. "I'm here to take your head!" Johnson yelled.
Thatch chuckles beside her, placing his hands on his hips. The deck stays quiet as Johnson exclaims his intentions for the whole world to hear.
Sakura bites her lips, eyes narrowed. Was it common courtesy to allow opponents to talk? It would be easy to apprehend the captain quickly. A job done well and fast, no need for pointless commentary. Yet Edward and the rest of the whitebeards didn't seem to mind.
Johnson rushed forward quickly, yet his swing was slow and sloppy. All Edward had to do was move his staff-like sword to the front, causing the rookie captain to stumble back on impact.
The other crew seemed on edge, looking around and between their captain. Sakura was unsure wether or not they'd try to attack any of the whitebeards. Nor did she know how Edward would react if they did.
"Hey, what happens when they lose? Do you guys kill them?" Sakura leaned to the side, whispering to Thatch.
The chef shrugged. "Depends. We usually let them go. But if they refuse then.." he trails off, allowing Sakura to connect the dots.
She hums thoughtfully. Eyes focusing back towards the one-sided fight. Johnson was clearly loosing, already looking out of breath after swinging his sword only a couple of times. A few of his crew members were cheering him on, while many of the others look skeptical he'd even win.
Edward swings his large sword down, and Johnson is much too inexperienced and slow to react, the large weapon smacking the smaller captain on the top of the bed.
Realistically, the attack should have cut the man in two. Yet it seemed like Edward had pitied the guy and twirled his weapon around so the blunt edge hit instead. Not that it didn't seem to hurt just as bad.
Johnson crumbled to the ground in a heap, unconscious and bleeding ever so slightly. His crew erupted in shouts of panic, eyes wide and they looked around. Their weapons now drawn.
"Leave, with your captain." Edward spoke calmly, forcing the crew silent once more.
A few of the rookie pirates stared at their unconscious captain, while others looked towards the ship. Sakura wondered quietly herself, what they would do now. Fleeing would be the smart option. Grow strong, live to fight another day. But one thing she learned from dealing with Naruto... and Sasuke- that their pride was sometimes so great that they wouldn't see the logic in running away.
So when the rookie's crew charges forward, one towards Edward, and the rest towards his crew- Sakura wasn't all that surprised.
Thatch handled the one heading towards him quite well. Ducking under a swipe and gripping the attackers wrist with enough force to head it break. The sword dropping from the man's hand and falling to the ground.
Marco took on three easily, not even using those blue flames he had told her about in the medic bay. Sakura was impressed, watching the battle unfold.
"Sakura! Incoming!" Someone yelled from the side, the voice sound oddly like Izou.
Sakura turned her head around, until her gaze landed on a skinny man headed towards her. His fist raised, covered in some type of metal contraption. Out of the corner of her eye, Thatch watched her- along with the rest of the crew as the fighting died down as most of the rookies were apprehended.
The rookies fist swung as her face, easy to side-step out of the way. Due to the momentum of the kids swing, his body continued forward- making it easy for Sakura to reach forward and bend her arm around the rookies neck. Trapping him in the crevice of her elbow.
The rookie groaned as Sakura yanked her arm back towards her chest. The kid slamming against her, neck in a restricted hold. His arms and legs frailed uselessly, even the kicks against her legs didn't hurt. She counted slowly, watching as the kid struggled to breath until his body fell limp and she released him.
The rookie's unconscious form falling towards the ground. Sakura sighed, placing her hands of her hips and looking up. Smiling at Thatch who looked a little surprised.
"So you can fight as well?" Izou mumbled, walking over to where she stood. Thatch tilts his head, looking her over.
"Kunoichi. Of course I can fight. I just haven't had the time to show you guys." She answers truthfully. Partly.
She wasn't going to give away all her tricks. Some simply fighting moves would be enough to appease them. So Sakura hoped.
"Fighting and healing, a deadly combo." Thatch whistled, laughing. Her pointed towards Marco.
"You're almost like birdy here. Just ya know, without the bird." The chef teased.
Which earned him a swift punch into the back of his head in retaliation. Sakura couldn't help but laugh softly at the scene, her lips pursing.
Around them, people began to move the other crew back into their ship, piling them up along with their captain. Fixing the sails and letting them detach from the Moby.
Sakura continued to chat idly with the group around her. Content for the time being, her mind drifting away from Konoha and her friends. Unable to help but almost feel at home... here- with this odd bunch of pirates.
