Day: 5

Prompt: Children/Family

It had been over 20 years since Belos was defeated and ever since then the Boiling Isles has been in an era of peace. Shortly after the Isles had been rebuilt the human who saved Luz Noceda married her Hexside sweetheart Amity Blight. The two settled down in a small and cozy house built outside their Grom tree. About a year after they married and with the help of a spell Amity gave birth to their daughter Azura. They named her after the main character of their favorite book series that originally brought them together. Azura was a kind child but at the same time very reckless much like Luz. Her recklessness made both of her parents very protective. When she turned 13 Luz backed off a little but Amity remained protective.

Amity was currently working on a new Abomination project when her child came up to her.

"Um, Mom."

Amity stopped what she was doing, and turned to Azura "Yes, what is it sweetie?"

Azura looked at her mother with a worried expression, "I have something I wanna ask you

Amity was now both confused and nervous, "I'm listening."

"I want to join the Grudgby team at Hexside." Azura answered her mom.

Amity hears this and puts her wrench down to talk to her, "Mija, I know you have a lot of energy in you, but that seems a bit dangerous. May I remind you what happened to me when I was your age?"

"I know what happened, but then Mama came swooping you up with her "weak nerd arms" and carried you to the nurse. I want something like that to happen to me." Azura answered back to her mom.

Amity was confused at first… and worried, "You want to get hurt at Grudgby?" Amity was scared when Azura was suggesting that.

Azura groans, "No! I want to do sports, be an underdog hero, I wanna be a great athlete, and meet a hot yet vulnerable upperclassman girl." Azura said with a smirk implying her interests.

Amity rubbed her temples with her left hand, "I'll talk to your Mama about it tonight."

Azura's expression lit up. Normally Amity wouldn't just say no but the fact that she was considering it was great, "Thanks, Mom!" Azura said as she hugged Amity's leg

A few hours later Amity got done with her project and went to the living room where Luz was just laying on the couch reading.

"Hey honey," Amity said as she walked up to Luz.

"Hey, Hermosa!"

Amity took a deep breath, "We need to talk about our Daughter."

Luz closed her book and sat up so Amity could sit down, "Is she ok? Did she get hurt?"

Amity shook her head, "No, She asked me if she could join Hexsides Grudgby team."

"What did you say?" Luz asked

Amity responded, "I told her that me and you would talk about it."

Luz thought about it for a minute and shrugged her shoulders, "I'm fine with it, but you don't seem like you are."

Amity let out a big sigh, "I'm not Luz. What if she gets hurt and breaks her leg or worse?"

"Sweetie," Luz said and she got up and rubbed Amity's shoulders. "We can't assume the worst will happen."

"You know how Azura is." Amity replied, "How many times has she come home with some kind of cut or bruise?"

Luz just kept rubbing her shoulders, "I worry about her too Ami, but we have to give her room to grow."

Amity laid her head back and let out another sigh, "I know, she is adventurous and likes to try new things."

"She's just like us," Luz said with a smile.

"Well, she's get's her reckless side from you," Amity replied with a smile of her own.

"Luz rolled her eyes and shook her head, "Sooooooo, have we made a decision?"

"Azura! Come here!" Amity yelled as she got up from the couch and with Luz for their daughter to come downstairs

Azura quickly ran down after being summoned by her parents, "Yes?

"Me and your Mama talk about it and we decided that we would let you tryout for Grudgby."

"Really?!" Azura squealed and ran up and hugged both her mothers, "You're the best parents ever!"

Amity got on her knee to her daughter's eye level. "But I want you to promise me that you'll be as careful as you can."

"Yes ma'am." Azura knew that was a promise she couldn't keep. It's a sport, and getting hurt is not something you can plan but since it would give her mom peace of mind she made the promise.

(The next day)

"Amity, please sit down," Luz asked as she watched her wife pace back and forth.

Earlier in the day Azura went to the tryouts. She woke up extra early to get some Grudgby gear and after that went straight to Hexside. Since Azura was the last person to sign up she was gonna be the last to do the drills. Amity was currently a nervous wreck. As hesitant as she was to let her try out, she knew getting on this team was important to Azura and wanted her child to be happy. She was also super nervous about Azure potentially getting hurt

"I'm home!" Azura yelled as she walked through the door.

Amity rushed her and immediately started checking her, "Are you ok? No cuts? No bleeding? No broken and/or missing limbs?"

"I'm fine Mom."

"How did it go?" Luz asked, "Did you make the team?"

Azura went into her bag and pulled out her new Grudgby jacket, "No. The only thing I did was make the coach so impressed that SHE MADE ME THE MOTHERFLARKING CAPTAIN!!!!"

Luz stands up with her jaw dropped while Amity drops her jaw as well. "WHAT!?" they both yelled in surprise.

Both Luz and Amity wrapped their daughter in a huge hug. Azura hugs her mothers back and cries in tears of pride.

Amity still wasn't thrilled about her daughter playing a violent sport but seeing her daughter happy made her heart full of joy.
