Shin recovered fairly quickly, and she and Baylan soon began to travel via Shin's howler. Their destination was still unknown, but Shin was a bit more inclined to follow Baylan's lead now that she too could sense something calling out. They had something of a routine, travel during the day and then make camp for the night. Shin would practice with her lightsaber when there was time, Baylan occasionally giving her pointers but otherwise remaining quiet. The two didn't really talk much, which meant they were often left in awkward silence. Shin was always reluctant to sleep when night fell, and always woke up from some kind of nightmare. She would brush off any of Baylan's attempts comfort her, but she did not deny or try to hide her distress. This pattern of events repeated for a number of days. Baylan eventually grew tired of it. "Shin," he said, "I know you weren't ready to talk about what happened, but I think we need too."
She nodded, sitting down beside him, "What you did hurt me."
"I know, and I'm sorry," Baylan said, "I was, although perhaps not in the right way, trying to protect you."
"I know," Shin replied, "But I wasn't ready."
"I know you weren't, and I never should've insisted that you go."
"I needed you," Shin said, "I still need you." Baylan looked down at her in surprise. Shin sighed, "I can't just suppress my emotions and tell you that I'm not still hurt. But I also can't pretend that what happened just erases everything that happened before. I lost my parents when I was very young, and it was hard to survive on my own. You took me in and raised me. You have been like a father to me for most of my life. When you told me to go, I thought it was because you didn't want me anymore." She let her head drop onto his shoulder.
"Shin," Baylan said, wrapping his arm around her, "I'm so sorry. I promise I'll never abandon you again."
Shin snuggled against his side, "I know," she said, "And I forgive you." What they would face next was still unknown, but they would face it together.
