Chapter 4

Link galloped the whole way back to the village of Green Veil, looking up and following the green tint of a particular floating track line, not really knowing if it'd lead back to the village. he'd never gone by horse, always travelled by train so the routes were unfamiliar to this body. What he knew should be along this route wasn't.

It was very disorientating for him.

When he got to the outer rim of the village instead of being able to pull the horse up Epona jumped the hedge and into the school yard like she just knew where Link needed to be.

Epona then jumped slightly and kicked a stone loose that revealed a staircase he hadn't noticed before.

Link jumped down from Epona and removed more stones until he could clamber through and make his way down.

At the bottom Link took out the lantern and lit one of two torches. In the middle of the room was a cabinet with the Minish Cap inside. It seemed to sparkle but as Link made his way towards it a fence came up around him and two armoured knuckle knights climbed out of the ground.

Link ground and tried to fight them both but if he hit one he got hit by the other.

Link noted that they mirrored not just each other's moved but his own. Know armed with this knowledge Link moved around the perimeter until the two knights smashed into each other making it easier to get to their weak points and destroy their armour.

It was an intense and tiring fight and with just half a heart left Link finally got the other knight down and both vanished in a puff of smoke.

Link quickly searched his satchel for a heart jar or four and had just taken the last to fill his health up when he was thrown from behind.

This time Link had 5 Lizofoes all with spears, circling him.

Link got himself into the centre and held out his sword, it seamed to power up until he could do a spin attack and knock the Lizofoes out of the ring.

The fight still wasn't over, now he had a solitary figure coming through the fence towards him at speed. The only thing Link could defend himself with against this thing was a shield.

He waited until the opportune moment and thrust the shield forward, sending the being flying back into the beam of light coming from outside and freezing it. Link launched himself forward and performed a finishing blow on the creature before finishing off the Lizofoes now back in the ring. Finally with the last one down they all vanished into puffs of smoke and the perimeter was gone but it wasn't over for now guarding the Minish cap were 4 Beamos. Link used the shield to bat the beams back and then stab the pink crystal activating each one.

They all crumbled and Link took the casing away from the Minish Cap

"I knew it was you" Came a familiar voice

Link turned around to find professor Lilt only it wasn't him any more. Lilt' face was ghost white

"No"

Lilt floated upwards and laughed,

"Take the hat, you won't be able to find us again anyway"

Lilt was released and his body dropped to the floor. Just behind him stood Lilt' ghost, crying at the sight.

"Professor Lilt" Link said, "I'll get you back in your body but how? I need your help, tell me"

"We need the Bell of the Sages but there's only one way we'll be able to retrieve that and that's to restore the railway"

"Old and new?" Link asked

"Yes but no one ever found a way" Lilt' ghost said disparagingly

"I'll take your body to the Rito Pass, you'll be safe there" Link said, "Who was that voice though?"

"The dark master...he doesn't have all the strength he requires. We can't let them, whoever is behind this, bring him back into this world" Lilt said

Link nodded and took the Minish cap and placed it on his head and when he did a great rumble could be heard and people yelped in surprise.

Link ran out of the space.

Outside Link stood on the wall and then climbed onto the roof of the school to watch a track appear out of the ground that didn't quite lead to Green Veil but close enough. He also watched a platform rise up out of the ground.

Lilt' ghost floated up beside him before Link grinned, took out the only piece of map he had and jumped down, and ran up to the platform

"Link! We don't have a train! What about my body!"

Link looked at him,

"I have a feeling that when we get back from Rito Pass my old train...his old train will be waiting for us"

"I hope you're right Link" Lilt said

The trek to Rito Pass and back was an arduous one, no shrines to warp to in this incarnation and no trains. Link travelled by horse and cart for two days and a night with Lilt' body across Hyrule and up the snow covered mountain to where the Rito liked to reside. They liked to look over everyone from high above.

They were fabulous swimmers too. It was though by some that the Rito and Zora were one of the same.

To say the Rito were surprised by Link' cargo was an understatement but as the Mayer helped Link place Lilt' body in an ice room below the surface of the village he soon discovered they had their own problems.

"My chef' son is missing. He was out hunting and had left his son in the log cabin they often borrow from a Hylian and when he returned not only was his son gone but the place had been ransacked" The Mayer told him

Lilt' ghost gasped,

"It can't be"

"I know of a girl from Hyrule Castle Town taken, her place was ransacked, Zelda herself is gone, her room too ransacked and Lilt here. If his ghost is with me but Zelda, the Butterfly Girl and the Chef' son aren't they must be trapped and if they're trapped they're all in the same place. Back at the school we heard the voice of the dark master. Cole they used to call him but he couldn't take over for long" Link said

"Why?" The Mayer asked, "I mean, why is Cole doing this? He can't really want to bring the demon king back can he?"

"He stayed quiet all this time, I don't think he wants him back I think he wants his powers"

"What is your plan?" The Mayer asked

"I'm going to restore and link the tracks, old and new, starting with the lost Kakoriko"

"I'm going too" Link' ghost said, "I may be a spirit but I can still help you"

Link nodded.

While within Rito Pass Link was encouraged to visit the shrine of the hero of calamity but not to be tried, rather to awaken it and then another to create a shortcut.

It seemed to give Lilt strength as he glowed a shade of blue for a short while upon Link placing his hand upon the slab on the plinth before the shrine.

Upon returning to Green Veil as predicted, by the old shed the locomotive was waiting for them now,

Lilt smiled and Link once again ran towards it.

Lilt sat on a seat within the cab while Link got to work on the locomotive and soon they were trudging along the track towards the upturned stump.

Once it was in his sights Link took up speed and careered straight into it.

There was a loud popping sound and glittering lights and a tunnel and once threw to the other side they found themselves in new old territory,

They weren't in a forest at all, they were at the foot of a mountain.

The mountain curved round until the train could go no further. Before Link and Lilt stood a soldier from old Hyrule.

He immediately recognised Link.

"I still have your mask!" He told him, "How did you know how to find us? It's been chaos here"

"What's going on?" Link asked

"It's better if I show you" The soldier said and with that he led Link and Lilt into the old village of Kakoriko

Two people were frantically putting out fires and others were trying to fight off a fire hand that was coming up out of the well.

Link immediately sprung into action, attached a splash fruit to it and threw it at the hand, which crusted over and enabled the others to smash it to bits.

"We're out of water, are those things edible?" The soldier asked

"How have you survived?" Lilt asked

"On the bear minimum, we are Minish now, and milk too" The soldier told them

"Where did that hand come from?" Link asked

"The temple inside the mountain" The soldier said
