When Sonic reaches the Kokiri Forest, he was in for a big surprise. It was completely infested! There were pinching plants and octoroks everywhere! Sonic had to dodge super fast to get past them all. He went into the Lost Woods and found his best friend Tails. "Sonic, is that you?" He asked. "Yeah," said Sonic. "I've grown up."
"So have I," said Tails. "But I don't know why."
"That's okay, buddy. Neither do I," said Sonic. "Would you mind letting me pass so I can go to the Sacred Forest Meadow?"
"Sure you can," said Tails. "But be careful. There are monsters up ahead."
"Do you know what happened to Link and Saria?" Asked Sonic. "Sheik told me that Saria can't hear my call."
"He might be right. And I don't know where Link is. He's probably hiding in his house or somewhere in the Lost Woods. Hopefully, wherever he is, he's okay.," said Tails. "Sheik is a girl," said Sonic. "Oops. My mistake," said Tails. "Don't worry about it, buddy," said Sonic. And he headed off. "Good luck!" Shouted Tails.
Sonic kept walking through the Lost Woods, following the sound of the music until he reached the Sacred Forest Meadow. He used his hook shot Pushy had given him to pull himself up on top of the hedge wall and jumped from hedge wall to hedge wall to void any more yucky enemies. He saw giant metallic villains on the forest floor and by walking on top of the hedge walls, Sonic was able to get to the other side of the maze without being seen by the metal villains. But when he got to the stump where Saria used to sit, she wasn't there. She cannot hear the awakening call. Sonic remembered Sheik's words in his head. "But why can't she hear the awakening call?" Sonic asked himself. He decided to play "Saria's Song" on his ocarina to find out. But when he did, all he heard was "Sonic, I'm trapped! There are monsters everywhere! Help!"
"Oh, that's why..." Sonic said to himself. Just then, Sheik appeared. "I told you, Sonic, the girl is trapped in the Forest Temple," she said. "I was just testing the call by playing her song," said Sonic defensively. "And the girl's name is Saria by the way."
"Of course," said Sheik. "I'm only saying she can't hear the call because she's trapped in the temple." Sheik then handed Sonic a pair of goggles. "What are these for?" Asked Sonic putting them on. "They'll protect you in the temple," replied Sheik. "The monsters you'll find in the temple are phantoms. And phantoms are capable of hypnosis if you look them in the eye. These goggles will protect your eyes from the hypnosis so when you go in the Forest Temple to rescue Saria, you must wear these goggles at all times."
"Thanks Sheik," said Sonic. "You're welcome," said Sheik. "But before you go, I must teach you the Minuet Of Forest so you can return here whenever you want." Sheik took out her new harp and played a pretty tune. Sonic used his ocarina to copy her. Before too long, Sonic was able to play the "Minuet Of Forest" all by himself. Sheik smiled proudly. "Well done, Sonic," she said. "I'll see you again." And with that, Sheik threw a Deku nut on the ground in front of her which made Sonic shield his eyes from the bright light. When the light settled and Sonic could see again, Sheik was gone. "Sheik can make herself disappear?" Sonic asked himself in disbelief. "That's a neat trick." Sonic hook shot himself up to the entrance of the Forest Temple and was ready to rescue Saria.
