A/N Hey it's been a minute since I posted anything. I watched the Monster High Movies and I really loved G3 Frankie and there just isn't a lot of MH fan fiction anywhere. So, I am going to participate.
This is going to be a bit of a series. The doc I have now is 98 pages and counting so I need to split it up. These 5 chapters are basically the intro to the main story but it was too long so, the cliff hanger at the end will pick right up in the second book. Which the first chapter will be posted immediately.
Thanks for reading
When Frankie took their first breath, they were, at first, completely confused and terrified at their surroundings. It was all new. They were stiff, stumbled around and knocked over so many things. Coming to life also hurts way more than one would think. They are ashamed to admit that they attacked their parents. It was understandable that their parents had to sedate them at first.
The second time they woke, it was much less violent. They didn't speak, mostly uttered a series of moans as their speech center was still adapting to it's new brain. Their father, Viktor, a large man with green skin, black hair and a massive forehead, handed them a plastic cup with a lid and a straw.
He explained that they were meant to drink it. Then demonstrated. Frankie knocked the cup on the floor several times. Viktor was patient. He got concerned when they jammed their eye but was equally over joyed when they said 'ouch' in response. Their eye was fine. They were somewhat surprised at the sound of their voice, bringing a hand over their mouth.
After a few tries, Frankie successfully took a drink. Viktor explained that it was water with magnesium carbonate. He found it calming and they had to agree.
The next thing they learned was their name; Frankie Stein. Child of Viktor and Mary Stein. A Frankenstein monster. Viktor seemed generally overjoyed at their presence. No matter how many mistakes they made or things they knocked over. He went on to have Frankie repeat various stationary actions to test their individual limbs
Viktor then called down Mary Stein, who was so excited that she wrapped them in a hug. Frankie was surprised that they jerked away and stumbled backwards. She looked hurt. Frankie knew they didn't like to see her upset. However, she apologized, stated that she should have asked. She asked again and Frankie stumbled over the word yes. They didn't hug back. Unsure how to do so. Mary had black and white hair that sat in loose waves over her shoulders with yellow-green skin.
Together, they retaught them how to walk, Mary acting as a support when they stumbled. Frankie stumbled a bit, then, once they started to sweat, the three of them sat on a few containers in a corner; the only surface Frankie hadn't knocked over or broken somehow.
It was by this time, Viktor and Mary mainly addressed them as their daughter, but that didn't seem quite right. Were they a girl? They didn't quite know. Were they male? Yes? Maybe? Not quite.
Frankie grabbed their stomach as it grumbled. Viktor and Mary were ecstatic that they could feel hunger. Mary promised that she'd start on supper and went up a flight of stairs. Viktor began cleaning up. Frankie felt bad so the moved to help only to fall as their leg disconnected at the knee joint. They groaned as they rolled on to their back, Viktor rushed to help them as they panicked.
"Sorry, darling, loose joints." Viktor said, "Frankenstein thing. It just pops back on." To punctuate his point, he put Frankie's leg into place and they wiggled their toes.
Frankie grinned for the first time as Viktor helped them up. Frankie wanted to help but Viktor put a desk back up on its legs and its chair and told Frankie to just sit and relax.
By the time Mary returned with a large Tray, Victor had put the laboratory back together, sweeping everything that couldn't be salvaged into one corner of the room to deal with later.
Mary placed the tray on the operating table in the middle of the room, handing a bowl of noodles and a fork to Viktor, placing a fork and chopsticks with a bowl in front of Frankie, the picked up a bowl and set of chopsticks for herself. Viktor said something about how it might be a little too complicated for them for their first meal. Mary waved him off.
Frankie focused on Mary and Victor eating. Carefully they picked up the fork but couldn't keep the food on it, the act of twisting the fork way too awkward. So, they picked up the chopsticks and carefully analyzed Mary as she ate. Frankie tried to hold the chopsticks but grew frustrated. Mary walked over, after asking permission, helped Frankie with their finger placement and demonstrated how to use them. Frankie, after a couple tries, managed to start eating comfortably. They stomped their bare feet in excitement.
Viktor and Marry talked idly while they ate. Telling Frankie all about the two and how they came to build Frankie in general. It had taken a couple tries before they were able to make a conscious version of them.
Frankie nodded in understanding as they talked, fascinated with it all.
Mary took the empty bowls and brought them up the stairs.
"What's up there?" Frankie asked, their first sentence.
Viktor smiled, "The house." He said, "Do you want to see?"
Frankie grinned widely and nodded.
They waited for Mary then made a line. Mary demonstrated stairs and Frankie slowly walked up them. Viktor was behind them, incase they fell and, they did about half way up. He caught them then steadied them again before they managed to, albeit awkwardly, make it up the stairs.
The kitchen was well lit. Viktor and Mary quizzed them, to make sure they knew what everything was. The living room was next and looked cozy. They stared in awe at how many books there were. They then entered a small coat room with the front door, Then approached a hallway with a panel in it. Viktor explained that they had a home security system he would show them later. They then were shown the bathroom which was fairly modern looking, Frankie thought though they didn't understand what that meant.
Next was Viktor and Mary's bedroom. There was a double wide operation table bed, similar to the one Frankie woke up on but this one had a memory foam mattress blankets and pillows on it and two bedside tables laying flat, a closet that remained open, a couple dark green dressers and a glass doored cabinet with some extra hands, feet, a staple gun needles and various threads and chemicals. The next was a guest room with a four poster bed with a thick pocket coil mattress.
Then, at the end of the hall, the couple seemed overjoyed and excited about the next room. They started to ramble about how they hoped they'd like it because they honestly aren't sure what they like yet or what personality traits they'd have. They would add or change anything they wanted, they just had to ask. Opening the door, Frankie was urged to enter first. Viktor then went in behind them and started to point to various things around the room.
The bed was a smaller version of theirs, with blue, black and yellow blankets and pillow cases. There was a bookshelf with a variety of books Frankie already wanted to read. A desk with a comfortable looking chair a rack of tools above it and a separate tool box next to it with some safety equipment. A cabinet like the ones in their room with spare anything they might require. There was an electric chair in a corner and a couple end tables. Lastly, there was L-shaped work bench in the corner by the desk.
"This is all for me?" Frankie said looking around the room in awe. Their speech center seemed to have finally come to life. They saw another door a few feet from their bed, "What's in there?"
Mary came forward and opened the door. Flicking a switch, it lit up a modest walk-in closet with so many different types of clothes and a dresser. There were also a few basket of clothes scattered around the space.
"We got a little bit of everything." Mary said, "We weren't sure what you would like or how you would turn out. Whatever you don't want, we'll donate to other monsters in need."
"This is all very…" Frankie searched for the word, "Kind? But also overwhelming."
"Why don't you take some time to yourself." Viktor said, "And get to know who you are."
Mary smiled, "We'll come and say good night. If you need anything, you just need to shout."
Frankie smiled shyly, "Thank you."
The couple nodded and left the room. Closing the door behind them.
They paced around the room, taking in the space before they shivered. Looking down, they noted they were still in a hospital gown. So, they went into to closet and looked around, opening drawers and digging through baskets until something jumped out at them. They picked up a comfortable looking yellow hoodie and a pair of pants with a bunch of zipper designs on them. It took a few tried, they fell once, lost a finger for a moment, but they got the pants and hoodie on. It was comfortable. They looked at their bare feet for a moment then around the closet. Lining the bottom of one side were shoes and slippers. Frankie glanced at the slippers and picked up one pair but immediately dropped them, disliking the texture. It was like that for a few of them until they saw a pair of fluffy looking black and yellow ones. They felt really nice. Frankie slipped them on and did a little stomp test with a small laugh. They spotted a full length mirror on the back of the door. They had yet to see themselves.
Their skin was a kind of cerulean with visible stitches on their neck and right cheek and a single staple in their left eyebrow. Both of their eyes were different colors. One of the, they recalled Viktor saying it was his.
Their hair was dark, almost black at the roots but was mostly silver with some blue mixed in, coming to the middle of their back. The longer they stared, the more they smiled. They thought they looked good. Their parents did a wonderful job. There were questions though, but they liked the idea of being able to explore a little bit.
They glanced around the room and their eyes immediately landed on the book shelf. They scanned the titles and picked out a book on monster physiology and psychology. They sat at their desk and flipped through it. It took them a while to get a hang of reading, their eyes did not quite focus correctly yet. So, they took their time.
A few hours later, Frankie jumped at a knock on the door. They waited but it didn't open, so they shrugged and went back to reading. The knock came again a couple times in the next few minutes, much to Frankie's confusion.
"Frankie," Viktor's voice came from the other side of the door, "When someone knocks, it usually means they are asking permission to enter. You can say know but you generally need to respond."
"Oh. Sorry." Frankie said, "You can come in."
Viktor entered the room and walked over to the desk, "Reading already? That's my girl."
Frankie cringed with a small groan and a frown at the 'girl' comment.
Viktor stared at the way their face twisted, "What did I say?"
"The word girl." Frankie said, "I feel like I need to correct you but I don't know how. It makes me feel…ick?"
"How about…boy?" Viktor offered.
Frankie shivered.
Viktor looked like he was in thought, "We'll figure out something. Right now, it's 11 P.M. so we should probably get to sleep."
"Okay." Frankie said, getting up.
"Okay." Viktor nodded, "Some Monsters shower at night, some every night, but you need to brush your teeth and use the bathroom if you need to."
"Got it." Frankie said, stiffly leaving the room and entering the bathroom and closed the door.
There was a blue cup labeled with their name that contained a toothbrush, toothpaste and had a container of floss in front of it. There was a green one with Viktor's name and a red one with Mary's as well. Frankie grinned and picked up the toothbrush, wetting it, then put toothpaste on it. They weren't sure what was going on but they felt like they had been doing this longer that they had been alive. After they brushed their teeth, they went to the bathroom and washed their hands automatically. Their own existence was starting to fascinate them.
Viktor came out of his bedroom wearing black silk pajamas, Mary behind him in a matching sleeping gown.
"See, I told you Frankie would like zippers." Mary said, "Lots of teenage monsters like them."
Frankie grinned, "Yes, I love them. Thank you."
Viktor looked awkward for a moment, "Can I…give you a hug goodnight?"
Frankie maintained their smile and nodded. It was weird because Viktor was twice their size but he was warm and it kind of made Frankie feel safe.
"I'm not sure what to do." Frankie said as he was hugging her.
"Well, this is fine or, you can chose to hug back." Viktor said.
"Um…" Frankie hummed. Mary helped by reaching over and guiding Frankie's arm as far around Viktor as they could get. Frankie mirrored the action on their side and gave victor a light hug.
When he had his fill, Frankie agreed to hug Mary as well. It was kind of nice. They felt…good having Viktor and Mary there.
"Goodnight." Frankie said, excusing themselves before entering their room. The door slammed a little too hard, so they called out to an apology before flipping a switch on the wall, leaving only the lamp on their end table on.
It took them a moment to get into bed. The action in itself felt awkward and stiff. Frankie figured they would get it eventually. It was odd that they instinctively knew some things and not know others, they thought as they switched off the lamp. They stared at the dark ceiling for a while before they felt their eyes grow heavy. Eventually they drifted shut and Frankie fell asleep.
