Chapter 1

"Sir, I'm nervous," Sergeant Schultz admitted to his Captain. They were inside one of the spare bedrooms in the Vinkun Palace and Fiyero stood in front of him, making sure his dress uniform looked smart. He was proud of the young man and was excited for him.

"If you weren't nervous, I'd be nervous," he told him.

"Why? I mean I'm the one who suggested it!" Schultz was close to losing his cool.

"I wouldn't call getting down on one knee in front of my parents and proposing to Sergeant Kaplan a suggestion," Fiyero gave him a look. After Damla was cleared to travel by Doctor Talib, one month later, she wanted to return to the Vinkus to see her parents. Fiyero had agreed and he had Schultz go with her along with Corporal Roth and Corporal Norris. Not exactly a romantic trip, but Damla was not at a full one hundred percent. Doctor Talib figured fresh air and a trip home would do her a lot of good, rather than being cooped up in the infirmary. Elphaba's spell had done its work, but the physical toll had still been great. Still Damla had been in great spirits and was doing her daily exercises and even walking around the Palace.

Upon their arrival in the Vinkus, they were met by the King and Queen, at Damla's parents' home. Damla had, after all, saved their son. The then Corporal was embarrassed by the attention and certainly had not wanted to make a big deal out of what had happened. She had saved the Prince and that was something neither King Tahir nor Queen Ayla were going to ignore. Damla had received their thanks, a bump in rank to Sergeant, and one wish that they would grant. Needless to say, she was overwhelmed. So, at that particular moment, Sergeant Schultz decided it was time to propose. Damla practically passed out and he'd caught her.

"You're probably right," Schultz nodded, reliving the moment from five months previous.

"Have you decided where you're going to live?" Fiyero asked.

"No. You and your parents have been most gracious, but one of us is going to be forced to give up their career," the young man admitted.

"Well, you know that I would be more than happy to welcome Damla into the Gale Force. Though Elphaba and I will have to return here to the Vinkus when we finally tie the knot," the Captain explained.

"You'd leave Lady Glinda?" Schultz was surprised, knowing that the blonde would not be so keen on the idea.

"I am heir to the Vinkun Throne. I must lead my people when the time comes," Fiyero said. Schultz nodded and a knock on the door interrupted their conversation.

"Ready?" Elphaba asked once her fiancé opened the door.

"I am," the Sergeant nodded. He found the green woman's arms around him.

"I cannot thank you enough for everything you two have done for me," the young man said.

"Just promise me that you'll treat her like a Princess, who could kill you, if she wanted," Elphaba gave him a smirk after they pulled apart. They had a good chuckle.

"Always – she'd kick my butt otherwise," Schultz said. It was a running joke. Neither Sergeant would ever do anything bad to one another. Their love might have been young, but it was strong.

"Come on, let's get you married," Fiyero smiled. The three left the room and headed for the small Palace chapel.
