A/N: In this story, Lucifer will not die if he goes to Heaven.
Lucifer was down at LUX having a drink before heading home. The club wasn't open yet and he planned to be gone before it was. He had other plans for the evening.
It had been just over three years since Linda died. Lucifer's life had changed dramatically since then. He and the detective had married just over a year later, and they had both adopted Charlie. They had also moved to his home in the hills as it had more room and was better suited for children.
Lucifer couldn't be happier with the way his life had turned out. He used to think that having a family was the definition of Hell, but he couldn't imagine his life without them now. He didn't even miss partying at the club every night anymore. He did still spend some time at the club, but most nights he preferred to be at home with his family.
Lucifer was finishing up his drink and was preparing to leave when he felt the presence behind him. He turned around and his eyes darkened as he saw who it was. "What are you doing here?"
"Nice to see you too, brother," the other man said.
"I'm afraid I can't say the same," Lucifer told Amenadiel in a cold tone. He was not at all happy to see his brother. It had been close to four years since he'd seen Amenadiel, and his brother had made no attempt to contact him. He'd made no attempt to answer Lucifer's attempts to contact him either. He'd abandoned all of them, including the woman carrying his child. "Why are you here, brother?"
"I can't come down to check on everyone?" Amenadiel asked.
"Not after four years," Lucifer said bluntly.
"Come on, Luci. We've gone a lot longer than four years without talking to each other before," Amenadiel said. He didn't understand why his brother was so upset. Yes, he'd been away for a while, but they'd been apart for longer than this. Much longer.
"Yes, let's keep that trend going, shall we?" Lucifer asked.
"Look, I'm sorry I didn't say goodbye, but I needed to go home," Amenadiel said.
"Is that really what you think I'm angry about? That you left without saying goodbye? Did you not consider that it was the dozens of unanswered prayers from both myself and Linda? Or perhaps that you couldn't even be bothered to show your face after she died?" Lucifer asked. Amenadiel hadn't even pretended to care about what happened to Charlie after Linda died. For all he knew, the child had gone into the foster care system. Amenadiel couldn't have cared less.
"I... I was busy. I couldn't come back down to earth. Father needed me," Amenadiel said a bit lamely.
"Are you saying that Dad wouldn't allow you to come back down here?" Lucifer asked. He didn't believe that. Not even his father was that big of a dick. He wouldn't have insisted Amenadiel abandon his own child. If anything, his father would have insisted that he bring the child up to Heaven.
"No, that's not what I meant. Look, I don't need to explain myself to you, Lucifer. I was doing what was necessary," Amenadiel said firmly.
"Good for you. Leave," Lucifer demanded.
Before either man could say another word, a young voice was heard. "Daddy!"
Lucifer's entire demeanor changed upon hearing the voice of his son. He turned around and caught Charlie as the boy practically flew into his arms. "Hello, my boy."
"Hi, Daddy," Charlie said as he settled into his father's arms.
Chloe came into view a moment later and was shocked to see Amenadiel. "Hey. Sorry, I didn't realize you were busy."
Amenadiel stood in absolute disbelief as his brother held a little boy that looked exactly like Amenadiel. Was this his son? Was this the child Linda gave birth to? Why did his brother have him? Why was the boy calling him Daddy? Amenadiel never imagined that Lucifer would be taking care of his son. Lucifer didn't even like children, and he certainly wasn't the parental type. This was not what Amenadiel thought would happen, nor was it what he wanted.
"It's fine, darling," Lucifer said.
"Who's that?" Charlie asked as he pointed to the man his daddy had been talking to.
"He's no one. Pay no attention to him, child," Lucifer said.
"There's no reason to be rude, Lucifer. Hello, Amenadiel. This is our son, Charlie," Chloe said, putting extra emphasis on the word 'our.' She had a way of getting her point across while being perfectly polite. Amenadiel needed to understand that he had no rights towards Charlie. Charlie was theirs, not his. "Charlie, this is Amenadiel. He's someone Mommy and Daddy used to know. Say hi."
Charlie waved. "Hi."
"H... Hi, Charlie," was all Amenadiel was able to say.
Charlie turned back to his father. "Ice cream now, Daddy?"
"Yes, we will go get ice cream. Daddy promised, and he always keeps his word," Lucifer said before turning back to Amenadiel. "You can see yourself out. We have to leave. As you heard, I promised my son ice cream."
Amenadiel said nothing as he watched Lucifer and Chloe leave with his child. It wasn't right. His child didn't belong with Lucifer. Lucifer couldn't be a good father, and he didn't deserve his son. Amenadiel had to find a way to fix this.

Lucifer poured both himself and Chloe a drink before taking a seat on the couch in the living room. They would both need a drink after what just happened today. Amenadiel was back, and Lucifer doubted he would be leaving anytime soon.
Chloe entered the room a couple of minutes later. "Charlie's asleep and Trixie is doing her homework. We should talk about what happened."
Lucifer nodded and gestured for her to sit down.
Chloe took a seat next to her husband on the couch. She immediately grabbed for the drink he poured her. She didn't drink very often, but tonight she needed at least one. "Did he tell you why he's here?
"He mentioned wanting to check on everyone. He didn't mention Charlie once. He didn't seem to have any concern for the child he left behind. That is, until he found out we had him. You saw his face, didn't you? He wasn't happy to find out I was raising his child," Lucifer said.
"Too bad," Chloe said bluntly. She had seen the look on Amenadiel's face. She knew he wasn't happy. She didn't care. "He lost the right to have an opinion about who is raising Charlie when he abandoned him. Charlie is ours."
"He will try to take him from us," Lucifer said. He knew his brother well. Amenadiel didn't care about Charlie, but he did care about the fact that Lucifer had him. His brother would try to take him for that reason alone.
"He doesn't have a leg to stand on. We adopted Charlie. We made several attempts to get Amenadiel to come back and he ignored every one of them. It's been two years since Charlie's adoption was finalized. I doubt a court would even hear Amenadiel's case. He has no chance," Chloe said.
"You assume he would use legal means to take our son. Amenadiel won't care what the human authorities will say. He doesn't recognize anyone's authority but my father's," Lucifer said.
"So, you think he'll just try to take Charlie? I don't know why I didn't think of that. I should have. You think he'll take him to heaven if he gets the chance?" Chloe asked.
Lucifer nodded. "Absolutely. It's the one place he thinks I can't follow. He probably doesn't realize that taking our son away would be the only thing that would get me to go anyway. I would storm Heaven's gates to get our son back. I don't care what my father might do."
Chloe grabbed her husband's hand. "Let's not jump the gun here. We can't go to the worst possible conclusion. Right now, Charlie is asleep in his bed. Amenadiel hasn't done anything yet, and we shouldn't speculate on what he might do."
Reluctantly, Lucifer nodded after a moment. "I suppose you could be right. I don't want Charlie out of our sights for a while, though. He goes where we go."
Chloe nodded back. She didn't want to jump to the worst possible conclusion, but she did plan to take precautions. No one was taking her son away. "I agree. We keep Charlie with us. Amenadiel will have to get through both of us before he takes our son."
Lucifer stood up. "I'm going to go check on him. I just need to look at him for a moment."
"Let's both go," Chloe said before standing up and following her husband towards their son's room.
