[BOOK ONE]

《On a distant planet in the galaxy, gleaming with bustling lights... and life》

6 people sit at a round table, both men and women, 3 men, 3 women, of all different species. On the table lies a diagram of planets near the deep core of the galaxy. Vulpter, Tython, N'Zoth, Byss, and Khomm are all highlighted in boldened blue. A man in a green tunic and silver plating on his cheek with pale white eyes speaks up amongst the deafening silence. "The Welsprin--" A woman across from him interupts quickly, "It's always the wellspring with you! It is decided Yveret. We march to Byss in the morrow." The man bows his head, and so do the rest "It is decided" they all say in unison. Everyone stands up and funnels out of the door and into their quarters.

Yveret sits at his desk, mumbling like a crazed lunatic with a determination. "Gree... Gree... That's it! How did I not know before?" He traces the lining of a schematic for what looks to be early hyperspace engine concepts. "We've had this for years... how could we be so... so ignorant!?" He jumps up from his chair and he sprints out of his room and into the hallways of a labyrinth-like system. He bobs and weaves oncoming pedestrians as he makes his way out of the tight corridors and into the main center. He stops when he notices the woman at the meeting earlier, Edvard Upari, she stands there, her beautiful features have a disdainful grimace painted on them, she calls out to him "Yveret! Do not run from me!". He stops in his tracks, a bead of sweat runs down his temple.

"I was just heading out on a fruit run." Edvard chuckles "A fruit run, you amuse me. I know what you plan to do. The Wellspring is real... I know this, I just think it's in our best interest if we wait until the word spreads. Our influence barely reaches the second moon, we must prepare ourselves." Yveret glances at the bones of his spacecraft, a mere skeleton at the moment. "I understand, and I have this schematic. This could be the next step... no more Lockhorns." Edvard stares into his hopeful eyes, her black eyes and purple irises ooze sincerity as she cups his cheek with her soft slender hand. "It is dangerous, the Gree had the technology, we do not... not yet." Yveret takes in the faint floral scent of her perfume on her wrist...

"We have had the technology... our core.. it holds the key... the key to hyperspace, we can make it to Byss ten times faster. I would not leave you if I wasn't sure of it... I just need help building--" Her eyes darken with determination "I will not let you!". He sighs, and then places is forehead on hers, his eyes are closed, his breathing steadies... "We need to evolve. Remember our goal, our hope. Protect the galaxy, keep peace. It is in our nature... The paranoia, it is what drives our cause... I understand your doubts, but my goal remains steady. I will go, I will find the answer.". A tear falls from Edvard's eye, as Yveret squeezes her hand and begins walking away, she makes one last attempt to stay close to him "I'll come with you! ... We'll... We'll umm... We'll finish your ship. We'll find it together... You and me. When we return, we'll show them." Yveret smiles, "That is a plan."

《Meanwhile, in the crater》

Paj wakes up with a scream, he frantically stands up and dusts his dingy robe off, he twists and turns to look at his surroundings. Despite his existential fear, his surroundings are beautiful... Green, much different from his nearly desolate homeworld. "Wha... Matri! ... MATRI!!" His cries for his mother are only met with the sound of nature. He let's out a primal scream and the beautiful trees around him are sent flying miles. He looks around, his breathing heavy and his eyes leaking tears. In a weak voice, he pleads one last time "Meera... Matri... Partri... Please..." Silence. Just peaceful silence. He staggers toward a tree, and then toward another, and then another until he finds an open area, surrounded by trees in a perfect circle... almost like it was made for him specifically.

"By Ocha's will, by Ocha's hand, the sun guides me, the sun guides Ocha, the sun is constant, long after... The sun remains, constant. Constant, the sun remains, and I remain constant, by Ocha's will" The prayer paired with the light rustling of the trees seem to calm him a bit. Only then, he feels the ground rumbling, something ethereal sounds in the distance, the rumbling grows louder, oh so louder, more violent, oh so violent... until the ground eventually stills, then everything... is silent. "By Ocha's wi--" A seering pain forms in his body, a pain so great he can't even stand. His head hurts, like his mind is straining. His palms ache, almost like he is holding the weight of the galaxy. His soul is heavy, like he is carrying the weight of the universe. It stops, and the pain subsides gradually. "B-... By... O-..." He can't speak, think, he almost can't even breathe. He let's out a pathetic whimper "Why? ... I want to go home... Ocha... Guide me home, please, I beg..." Nothing. No one will save him.

He gets up, his legs shake under the weight of his body, and the memory of that soul-heavy feeling comes back like deja-vu. His body will forever remember. He looks around, his deep blue eyes carry a weight, a heavy weight. He turns his attention to the soft blue sky, a starship shaped similar to a pyramid hovers directly above him, as it gets closer... The scale of this beast of a ship is revealed, it covers nearly half the planet and it engulfs the sky like a black hole, it is silent and so incredibly dark, blindingly dark. as it softly perches around Paj, he wears an almost emotionless face, the ship's underdeck opens to reveal a myriad of creatures of all races, imposing, but somehow charmingly friendly in stature. "Take me... Take me.. home." Paj mutters weakly. The lifeforms walk out onto the ramp and onto the soil that Paj stands on, they stand there with amused expressions. "He's here, I knew I felt it. He's real" one of the not so creature-like space people speaks up amongst the crowd, her features are boney, elegant, her soft hair runs along her shoulder, all the way to her feet. She is fitted it white robes with bright yellow accents like her fellow companions.

"We are the Noble Exalted Xenophiles Unifying the Serene. Or NEXUS for short. What is your name, little one?" For a moment, all the pain, fear, and confusion falters. The only thing that fills Paj's mind right now is this girl, she's beautiful, a bit older than him, but her youthful appearance is greatly contrasted by her mature tone, her voice, so smoothly deep, like rich velvet. "P- Paj... Karrfii Paj." The girl smiles, he notices her smile lines, she smiles often. "Where is your village, Karrfii Paj?" That snaps him back to reality "I-... I do not live here" the girls eyes scan the open environment, the trees, she feels the soft dirt on the ground. "Where do you live? Paj." All he can muster is: "Not here." and this is all she needed. "Ship off, Zhula, Rarek, Conas, and I will assess the situation" She motions towards the sky and a hulking creature suspends back into the ship with all the others, presumably to pilot the craft away. The ship lifts off with intense speed for it's size, still, it's silent nonetheless.

"I... umm..." before the boy could even speak, she motions her friends to hand him some sort of fruit, it's strange. "You must eat, you look malnourished." She is considerate, he'll give her that. "I don't... I don't know how I got here... I was... I was sleeping and then-" she cuts him off once more, this time to finish his sentence. "The legends are true..." The way she says it, it's almost as if she doesn't want to belive it. "... I landed... I uhh... Well... I landed here." His attempt to explain his situation is met with a look of jealousy on the girls face "How?" It is easy to tell that she simply doesn't believe him, but his scrambled mind, aching bones, and distraught emotions hinder him from forming anything but a simple response. "I- I- I do not know I--... I was just... sleeping and then.. I was flying... it was quiet, so, so quiet... and fast... then I umm.. landed here." Weirdly, she smiles, possibly in an attempt to calm him. "We have much to discuss, Paj."
