Principal Damocles, who had been about to speak, paused mid-sentence, his eyes widening in alarm. He rushed to the window and peered outside. "What in the world..."
As he looked out, he saw a terrifying sight: a colossal, menacing stone creature had emerged on the school grounds. It had a grotesque appearance, with jagged edges and fiery green eyes. Its very presence sent shivers down everyone's spines.
Principal Damocles immediately grabbed the intercom microphone and made an announcement over the school's PA system. His voice trembled with fear as he addressed the students and staff:
"Attention, everyone! We are currently facing an unprecedented emergency situation. A massive, hostile creature has entered the school grounds. I repeat, a hostile creature is on the premises. This is not a drill. I urge all students and staff to stay in their classrooms or designated safe areas immediately. Lock all doors, turn off lights, and remain silent. Emergency services have been notified and are on their way. Please stay calm and stay safe."
Chaos erupted in the office. People started screaming as pounding sounds came from outside. The lights went out, and everyone only became more panicked.
"What the hell is happening?" Alya's shaky voice sounded from nearby.
Chloe's phone light almost blinded Adrien. "There you guys are!"
All the students and Principal Damocles were now huddled together in a corner, breathing shakily.
The colossal stone creature shattered the office door with a deafening crash. Chunks of debris flew through the air as its enormous form squeezed through the doorway. The students and Principal Damocles were paralyzed with fear, their hearts pounding in their chests.
The creature's eyes glowed with an eerie, malevolent light, and its deep, rumbling growl filled the room. It advanced slowly, its massive, jagged limbs scraping against the walls.
Chloe, gripping her phone tightly, screamed in terror. Adrien tried to shield Sabrina, who was trembling uncontrollably, and Alya held onto Nino for dear life.
Alya turned to them, "Forget the lockdown, anywhere is safer than the office. Run! Split up!"
Adrien ran blindly, narrowly avoiding the chairs being thrown around and the chaos around him. Sabrina shrieked behind him, and he turned to look behind but the voice was abruptly cut off.
As he tried to rush past the shattered glass door, a sharp pain shot through his leg. He stumbled, letting out a cry of pain.
He looked down and saw blood seeping from a deep gash on his leg where he had cut himself on a shard of glass. Panic welled up inside him as he struggled to get back on his feet. There were footsteps behind him, and people pushing past him to escape into the corridors. Adrien summoned all his willpower to continue walking. His eyes had adjusted to the light, and he could see his jeans being stained crimson where the cut was.
Adrien continued to limp through the dimly lit corridor. The roaring sounds of the stone creature grew fainter as he distanced himself from the office, which gave him a glimmer of hope that he might be safe for now.
He decided to use his phone's light to find his way out of the building. Carefully, he illuminated the corridor ahead and spotted the exit sign. However, when he reached the entrance, he found the doors were locked, preventing his escape.
In a moment of desperation, Adrien decided to set a trap. He quickly dialed Chloe's number and placed his phone on the floor right next to the entrance doors.
With his heart pounding, Adrien ducked behind a large whiteboard in the hallway, praying that the creature wouldn't find him.
The phone rang.
"Heyyyy, you have reached Chloe Bougeois! I don't know how you got my phone number but if I gave it to you youre probably important or something, I guess. I'm not available right now, leave a message!"
He held his breath as he listened to the approaching footsteps and the terrifying, echoing growls of the creature.
The monster, drawn by the sound of Adrien's phone, reached the entrance doors and, with a load crash, broke through them. The doors shattered, pieces of wood and glass flying in all directions. The creature peered inside, searching for the source of the noise.
Adrien's heart raced as he watched the colossal creature from his hiding spot. He couldn't see it clearly, but its massive silhouette sent shivers down his spine. He dared not move or make a sound, fearing that even the slightest noise would give away his location.
After what felt like an eternity, the creature let out a final, echoing growl and then turned and lumbered away, its massive form disappearing into the darkness of the school building.
Adrien waited for several more minutes, making sure the creature was truly gone. Once he was reasonably sure it was safe, he cautiously emerged from his hiding spot and examined the shattered entrance from afar.
It was no use, glass and wood pieces were everywhere. There was no way he would be able to escape without sustaining a significant injury. It was hopeless. He managed to grab his phone back, turned the flash on, and hobbled further into the corridor. He stopped at the first classroom door he saw and opened the door.
It was completely empty, but it hadn't been wrecked by the monster, so that was a good sign. He shut the door behind him just in case, and dialed Gabriel's number, making sure to keep the volume as low as possible.
"Adrien?"
"Nathalie? Where's my father?"
"He's…busy at the moment."
Adrien's eyes blazed with fury. "My school is getting destroyed. I think the police came, because I heard some stuff, but…I think whatever creature this is, it's stronger than them. I don't know where any of the other students are. How does he not know what's happening? Does he really care that little about me?"
"What? No. I said this before, and I'll say it again. Gabriel didn't want you to go to public school, Adrien. We told you this was dangerous. Gabriel just wanted to protect you."
"A huge monster attacking the school isn't really a common occurrence, Nathalie. If he wants to protect me, how come he isn't answering the phone? Why aren't all the bodyguards he assigned to look after me coming to get me?" Adrien retorted sourly, sitting down and setting the phone beside him.
"Listen, Adrien, stay calm. It'll be okay. The police are there, they'll have this all sorted out in no time."
"Stay calm? I can't stay calm. I could have died, Nathalie. My leg hurts. My head hurts." Adrien put his head in his hands, "I want to go home."
"Your leg hurts? What happened?"
"I cut it on a piece of glass."
"…"
"Nathalie? Hello?"
The line went silent.
Hawk Moth turned, startled, as Nathalie stormed into the lair.
"What the FUCK have you done, Gabriel?" she spat. Nathalie's professional composure she had tried so hard to uphold had shattered in the face of Gabriel's actions.
"What do you mean, what the fuck have I done?"
"Francois DuPont is getting destroyed, Gabriel, along with the kids."
Hawk Moth scoffed, "The staff must've had students evacuate before or had them stay in classrooms, it's fine."
"No, it absolutely is NOT fine. Adrien's hurt. Police are getting crushed left and right, and bullets are useless against the kid you akumatized. He's fed off everyone's fear so much to the point he's become colossal."
"What? I never meant for Adrien to get hurt. How could something like this happen? The staff are imbeciles."
"YOU are an imbecile, Agreste!"
"How dare you talk to me like this! After all I've done for you, after I took you in despite all the pain you've caused, after I—"
"After YOU destroyed your own family? Yeah, right. Emilie was stupid to just jump into your arms and expect everything to be fine. I can't believe how two-faced you are, how you'd lie to your son's, how you'd say you love him one moment and almost cause him to be killed the next. I don't understand, Gabriel, just why? Look, I tried, Gabriel. I want to work by your side, but you can't murder your own kid."
Hawk Moth looked away. "I didn't realize something like this was happen. I didn't realize it would become this big of an issue, I just wanted to cause enough of a disturbance to summon the new miraculous welders.
Nathalie scoffed, the disbelief evident on her face. "Didn't realize? You sent an akumatized monster to his school! What did you think would happen? A tea party? And clearly, your plan didn't work. There's no superheroes in sight. Just dead kids and whatever remains of the police that tried to stop this fiasco."
"I thought I could control it," He admitted, "I didn't anticipate that it would go this far."
Nathalie's eyes narrowed. "You endangered him for someone who's been dead for more than a year."
"Lies. I never wanted him to be part of this. I wanted to keep him safe. And who's to say you didn't do the same to him? You agreed to this. You want Emilie back too. You get to live rent free in my home. THIS is how you repay me. Do not even try to talk to me about ethics. You are just as guilty as I am."
"Thankfully, I've terrorized a school full of children, unlike someone."
Hawk Moth's shoulders slumped, "You're right. I'll be more careful next time."
"Next time?"
"I can't stop now. If Ladybug doesn't defeat my victim's akumatized form, no effects will be reversed. Meaning whoever got injured, whoever died, stays like that."
"Damn you. You seriously never thought about the consequences?"
Hawk Moth groaned, "For the love of God, just shut up, Sancoeur. I will control my power better, and I'll figure something out. I might be a criminal now, but I'm not a cold-blooded killer." Hawk Moth reached for Nathalie's hand. "We'll figure something out, like we always have."
Nathalie reluctantly held it, but avoided eye contact. "Yeah. We will…hopefully."
Marinette sat trembling in the corner of the darkened office. The chaos had subsided, leaving her completely alone. The silence was broken only by the occasional distant siren or gunshot, each sound making her jump. Fear gnawed at her insides as she clutched her sketchbook to her chest, trying to steady her breathing.
She reached for her phone, her fingers fumbling in the dim light. Turning it around, she illuminated her dark surroundings. The room was a wreckage, papers scattered everywhere, the desk flipped over, pens and pencils strewn on the floor, and chairs with broken legs lay flipped upside down.
Marinette moved cautiously, her eyes scanning the room. Something large caught her attention on the right. She squinted, angling her phone just right to identify the object.
A person lay lifeless on the ground, her body partially buried under a fallen drawer.
It was Sabrina.
Well, a very dead-looking Sabrina, but Sabrina for sure.
Marinette gagged at the sight, reeling back in horror. Her back hit the bookshelf, and she dropped to her knees, her fingernails digging into the carpet below.
"No…"
Marinette forced herself to crawl towards the body for a closer look, her body protesting with every shake and tremor.
Maybe, by some miracle, the drawer hadn't crushed her neck completely and she was still alive. Marinette bent down to perform CPR, but Sabrina remained lifeless. No pulse, no breathing, no signs of life. Sabrina was simply gone.
Ears ringing and dizziness setting in, Marinette managed to push the emergency call button before she had to lie down, her breath coming in short gasps.
"911, what's your emergency?"
Marinette tried to compose herself but uncontrollable sobs racked her body, "My-my classmate is dead. My school— Francois DuPont High- is being attacked by…something…a-a creature. The news reports were true. I'm gonna die. We're…all….gonna die."
"Is there anyone else with you?"
"No…just…just me." Marinette's swallowed thickly, "And the body."
"Did you check their pulse?"
"Yes. She's dead."
The woman on the other end paused for a moment, "Alright baby, stay on the phone with me, 'kay?"
"Okay."
The operator's voice faded into the background as Marinette's vision blurred, the ringing in her ears growing louder. The world spun and her body succumbed to unconsciousness.
