Shadow sat on the floor surrounded by a maze of wooden panels and bars, a jumble of screws and bolts, and the incomprehensible instructions meant to turn it all into a crib. His brows furrowed in frustration as he tried in vain to make sense of it. He can take down an army of robots without breaking a sweat, but figuring out how to put together a crib is beyond him, apparently. He was half tempted to toss the maddening instructions into a bonfire.

Before his frustration could boil over, the door opened with a slight creak. Amy peered around the doorway, taking in the scene before her.

"Having some trouble there?" Amy asked, an amused smile playing on her lips as she entered the room.

Shadow huffed, ears flattening. "I don't know why they have to make these instructions so complicated," he grumbled.

Amy carefully lowered herself down beside him with a soft 'oof,' one hand resting protectively on her belly. "Why don't you let me help? We can tackle it together."

Shadow frowned as he looked at Amy. "You should be resting, not worrying about assembling furniture."

Amy waved a hand dismissively. "Oh please, I'm pregnant, not helpless."

"But the doctor said you need to take it easy," Shadow insisted. "You've been running yourself ragged getting ready for the baby as it is. Let me take care of this."

"I know my own limits," Amy said. "Let me help. We'll get this done much faster if we work together."

Shadow still looked doubtful, but the determined glint in Amy's eyes made it clear she wasn't going to back down. "Alright," he conceded. "But the moment you start feeling tired, you let me know. Deal?"

"Deal," Amy agreed, picking up the instructions. "Now, let's figure out how to put this crib together so our little girl has a place to sleep."

Shadow watched Amy closely for any hint of fatigue or discomfort as she pored over the directions, sorting and arranging the panels. But she seemed full of energy, so he jumped in to help assemble the pieces she identified.

With Amy's guidance, the baffling instructions finally started to make sense. She talked Shadow through each step - which bars connected where and handed him the correct screws and bolts, their fingers brushing against each other affectionately.

The crib slowly took shape before them, transforming from a mess of parts into a sturdy little bed.

At last, with the final screws secured, Amy rocked the crib gently to test its stability. "There, all done."

Shadow wrapped an arm around her shoulders, nuzzling her gratefully. "I couldn't have done it without you."

As they admired their handiwork, Amy's eyes widened in surprise, hands flying to her swollen belly. "Oh!"

Shadow looked down at her with concern. "Rose? What's wrong?"

But Amy was all smiles. "She's kicking up a storm! Here, feel!" She grabbed Shadow's hand and held it to her belly. Shadow's anxious expression melted into wonder as he felt their daughter's eager little kicks beneath his palm.

"She's excited to join our home," Amy said softly.

Shadow met her shining eyes. "I can't wait to meet her," he murmured, his tail swishing back and forth.

Amy nodded, stroking her belly lovingly. "It won't be long before we get to hold you, sweetheart," she whispered. "But don't rush. We want you to stay nice and cozy in there until you're ready."

Shadow leaned in and kissed Amy tenderly, their hearts overflowing with love and anticipation. The nursery was ready; now, all that remained was their sweet daughter's arrival.
