*BOOM!*
Videl: "What the hell!?"
Gohan winced at the harsh impact of Bansuri slamming into a nearby plateau, Videl arriving by ship for her flying lesson just a bit earlier. Gohan tried explaining energy but Goten demonstrated the concept by blasting a distant plateau which shocked Videl but seeing a green body launch past and slam into a closer one freaked her out somewhat.
Goku: "Sorry Bansuri! Goten blasting that mountain distracted me too. Heheheh"
A sheepish looking Goku floated into the area scratching his head, he and Bansuri were sparring a fair distance away when Goten's blast caught both of their attention during a punch Goku threw at the Namekian. Goku didn't have the presence of mind to stop the punch and Bansuri was focused on what caused Goten to let out such a blast and wasn't focused enough to block or dodge which led to Bansuri's express trip. Bansuri let out an annoyed groan from under the rubble before said rubble glowed and removed themselves off of Bansuri who got up and was dusting off his gi.
Bansuri: "It's fine, I should have kept my head in the fight instead of wondering what Goten was doing. Besides, Gohan was watching him...Hello, you're a new face"
Videl was staring at the green man that slammed into a rockface hard enough to shatter it and just shrugged it off before she recognised who she was looking at. This was Bansuri, the one who beat Cell.
Videl: " 'No matter how alone you feel and how bad the circumstances, know that you are cared for and cherished. Do what you can as best you can and never give up on yourself' "
Bansuri raised his eyebrows.
Bansuri: "Huh, most people recognise me as someone from 'Starfall'. You know me as the one that beat Cell don't you"
Videl nodded in awe, she was meeting the one that cemented her choice to get into martial arts and to continue self-improving.
Videl: "Those movies have nothing on the Cell Games footage, you can tell the fights are for show and the practical effects are so fake looking in the movies."
Bansuri smiled then glanced at Gohan then locked eyes with Videl.
Bansuri: "Need a hand in using energy?"
Videl nodded enthusiastically at the idea of being taught by such a great fighter and Gohan nodded subtly and thankfully at the idea of help as he had been struggling to explain energy moments ago.
Bansuri: "The energy you are training to use for flight is called 'Ki' or the energy of life. This force is a tangible energy inside every living being, with its major focus being in the center of the body, think around the stomach area. By drawing it out, you can manipulate it and use it outside your body for techniques like my Masenko or the energy blast Goten just used and. of course, flight. Because there are physical limits to the strength of the body itself, it's necessary to increase your ki to overcome this barrier and become stronger and more durable. A normal person would have died if they took the punch that sent me flying or if they slammed into something as hard as I did"
Videl nodded studiously, the explanation giving context to how Gohan could jump so high or take a softball pitch to the head without flinching.
Bansuri: "Maintaining proper balance between the body and spirit is important in utilizing energy, and the more properly balanced they are, the more energy you can project. You can train your body to incredible heights but meditation and inner focus are needed to attain power beyond the standard physical limit. There is a trick to help you flex the spiritual muscles needed to draw out your energy and it involves resonance."
Videl: "Resonance?"
Bansuri: "Hold your hands in front of you like you're trying to hold water in them"
Videl looked confused but cupped her hands in front of herself and looked at Bansuri expectantly.
Bansuri: "Gohan, I recall that Roshi did this to help you draw out your energy. Would you mind doing the same for your friend here?"
Gohan: "Huh? Oh! Right!"
Gohan moved in front of Videl and carefully put his hands outside of Videl's.
Gohan: "This is gonna feel a bit odd, but it'll definitely help you draw on your energy"
Videl gave a confused look before she felt her hands tingle and warm up, her palms getting an odd feeling of being pulled as she saw a little ball of energy form in her hands.
Videl: "I-is this my energy?"
Gohan: "Yup! I'm using my energy to coax your's forward. Feel that weird 'pull' feeling? That's the feeling of you drawing your energy out and the feeling you should aim for when you're practicing"
Videl stared at the orb in her hands until it vanished and Videl suddenly had a feeling of exhaustion, wobbling in place before falling forward into Gohan. She blushed and forced herself to her feet but look confused as to why she felt like she just sprinted from Orange High to Gohan's house.
Gohan: "Oh! Right, since you're new to using energy it's really draining for you. Training and meditation helps boost your energy."
Videl: "I guess that makes sense"
Bansuri stepped forward and tapped Videl's shoulder which confused her until she realized she didn't feel tired anymore!
Bansuri: "I just donated power to you, should help with the fatigue and allow you to attempt flying"
Videl looked at her hands clenching and unclenching them, feeling that she could take on the world. She looked up and gave a determined nod.
Bansuri: "Since you know the feeling of drawing on your energy, focus on lifting yourself into the air. Imagine your energy going up, will it to happen and you'll find yourself off the ground"
Videl nodded at the instructions and started focusing on her energy, a faint breeze kicking up as she started pulling on the energy within and after a few moments started to lift off the ground in a hover. While this hover wasn't a full foot off the ground, it made for a starting point to work on.
Videl: "Phew, that's pretty hard!"
Bansuri: "Makes for an excellent exoricise for boosting the amount of energy you can make though. I have a number of meditations and energy exorcises to help you get even stronger too."
Videl: "Does that mean I can do energy blasts?!"
Bansuri: "fundamentals and energy control first, I doubt you want to kill someone accidently right?"
Videl paled and gulped.
Videl: "R-right!" 'I didn't know energy could make me THAT strong!'
Bansuri: "Good, I will place the knowledge into your mind and let you practice them with Gohan."
Videl: "Into my mind?"
Bansuri simply beckoned Videl to get closer which after a raised eyebrow she stepped closer. Bansuri gently placed a hand on her head and Videl suddenly found that she knew more than she did before.
Videl: "W-wow!...wait, does that mean you can read minds?!"
Bansuri: "Unless you can telepathically communicate, this is one-way projection of knowledge and thought."
Videl: "Oh...are you actually a god like my dad said you were?"
Bansuri: "Not to my knowledge. I'm an alien."
Videl: "Oh..."
Bansuri: "(Sigh) Anal Probes aren't a thing"
Videl gave a deep sigh of relief which earned her a bonk on the head.
Videl: "Ow!"
Bansuri: "Quit being racist to aliens and meditate with Gohan, the tournament happens in three weeks right?! Get to training"
Videl walked to Gohan rubbing the top of her head while Bansuri walked away muttering under his breath and getting Goku to follow him to continue the sparring session they were doing before the interruption.
Goku: "Heheheh, the probe thing must really bug you huh?"
Bansuri: "You learn far more from reading minds or performing surgery on the brain than from putting something up a person's backside anyway."
Goku stopped smiling as the image of his own head being opened up and his brains being poked at popped into his mind, looking distinctly pale as the paused spar began anew.
On Roshi's island, Krillin and Tien were sparring with Lazuli and Marron watching on and Roshi meditating to sharpen and refine his Spirit Control. While Krillin and Tien had both gotten strong enough to beat Frieza with only times ten Mastered Kaioken the surprising growth came from Roshi as he had gone from being outmatched by Raditz to being strong enough to beat Captain Ginyu if the posing menace ever came back and that's before factoring the fact Roshi had managed to master Kaioken to times ten. While he was behind his students in both power and level of Kaioken mastered (level 50 for all human z-fighters), the fact Roshi made such gains at such an age was astounding.
Roshi: "Man, if I had learned this stuff in my prime I would be the strongest human in the world right now"
Krillin: "Honestly? You probably would"
Tien: "Yamcha not joining us?"
Krillin: "Nah, he's gotten more into baseball over the years."
Tien: "So he's slacking off in times of peace"
Krillin: "To be fair he does have a really good income"
Tien: "He's just after the women and attention with the lowest amount of effort"
Krillin: "Baseball does seem less dangerous and who's gonna attack sportsmen?"
Tien: "Cell. He ate a Battleball team that was traveling by bus"
Krillin: "...yeah, I'd feel safer if I kept getting stronger "
Lazuli: "Plus you have me so I think you're safe"
Krillin: "Heh, yeah that's true"
Roshi: "...lucky"
Lazuli: "What was that?"
Roshi: "Nothing! Just meditating"
Roshi was glad his shades hid his eyes so he could act like he was meditating and wasn't panicking from the sharp look Lazuli just turned around and leveled at him. Roshi may be way stronger than before but his true strength lay in his experience and wisdom...not to agitate someone stronger than himself (Lazuli).
At Capsule Corp, Vegeta was in the Gravity Chamber training at 150x Gravity. Normally Vegeta would be training at a higher level like 300x Gravity but he was training with not only his son Trunks but his daughter Bulla too! Both of them seemed to have a hard time moving in this gravity and were walking in an exaggerated and strain filled way. Vegeta knew they could turn Super Saiyan but he asked them to do as much as they can before transforming to get the most out of the workout which turned into a contest between the siblings of who could handle the strain for longer.
Trunks: "C'mon Bulla, just admit you're weaker than me, you ARE younger after all"
Bulla: "Get real! Just 'cause you're older doesn't mean you're tougher. Roshi is super old and we can totally beat him in a fight"
Trunks floundered at Bulla's impeccable logic and was grasping at straws to have a winning arguement.
Trunks: "Yeah? Well, uh, Girls are weaker than boys! All the toughest fighters are boys so just transform!"
Bulla just leveled an unimpressed look at her older brother.
Bulla: "If girls are really weaker then why can Nico kick your butt so easily?"
Trunks: "T-that's because she's a robot! She doesn't count!"
Bulla: "You say she doesn't count as a girl but I can't help but notice the pronoun you're using for her"
Trunks: 'Crud!'
Bulla: "Besides, if girls really were weaker, why can I kick both your butt AND goten's butt at the same time?"
Trunks: "I hold back because you're my little sister. Goten holds back because he has a crush on you"
Bulla got a surprised look on her face.
Bulla: "Really?...Huh."
Bulla was torn between being angry at the boys for toying with her and confusion on how to take the crush thing, unsure of how she felt for the fellow Half-saiyan her age.
Bulla: "Hmm, he's kinda cute but he seems dense enough to be annoying. I'd have to hang around with him for a while to see if that's so."
Trunks and Vegeta sweatdrop at the analysis of a seven year old in regards to romantic feelings, noticing that Bulla doesn't just get her looks from her mother but intelligence too.
Trunks/Vegeta: 'She's way too young to be thinking about lovey-dovey stuff'
Trunks is distracted by how calmly Bulla is considering her feelings that he turns Super Saiyan to make it easier to stand, sighing in relief of the strain being removed when he notices Bulla giving him a smug look. Trunks gives a confused look before realizing he turned Super Saiyan before her little sister did and tapped out of the contest between the two of them.
Bulla: "You were saying about girls being weaker? Looks like you can't handle as much as I can"
Trunks: "I just got distracted! That's all!"
Bulla: "Whatever. By the way?"
Bulla ascends to Super Saiyan then jumps to Super Saiyan 2 much to the amazement of Vegeta and the horror of Trunks.
Bulla: "Girls aren't weaker than boys, and I'll prove it! Get over here!"
Trunks looks terrified by this idea and turns to look at Vegeta with a pleading look.
Vegeta: "Don't look at me, you're the one that started something you couldn't finish. Bulla, try not to hurt your brother too badly for trash talking"
Bulla: "Kay Dad! Time for a buttkicking Trunks!"
Vegeta watched his daughter dominate in a fight against her brother and thought back to the fights he picked prior to this point and remembered the painful lessons that came with the fights he picked on Earth while tracing the scars on his arms and rubbing the scar over his left eyebrow.
Vegeta: 'At least your lesson in humility is less severe than mine. I hope it happens less frequently too...'
The images of the fights Vegeta took part in played in his mind, the triumphs followed by downfall caused by his own arrogance and desire to prove himself superior to everyone around him. His first fight with Bansuri and Goku being the most impactful and ingrained in his mind, Bansuri's cold glare staring him down as the Namekian caused him pain still flashing to the front of his mind when Vegeta let's his pride get the better of him and reminding him of the price of not thinking things through properly.
With 3 weeks until the 25th World Tournament and the warriors training to attain victory, Who will recieve the title of Strongest Under the Heavens? Will a member of the Son family hold the title once more? Will Vegeta show himself superior to all others? Will the couple of Krillin and Lazuli earn a handsome addition to their nest egg? Or will Tien or Roshi return to prominence? Find out next time on Some Help!
Bonus Scene: "Why didn't you dodge"
After Videl left the Son family property after a training session with Gohan assisted by Bansuri, said Namekian was giving Gohan a very neutral stare.
Gohan: "...What?"
Bansuri: "You're fast enough to move quicker than the eye can follow and you're able to teleport."
Gohan: "Yeah?"
Bansuri: "So why didn't you dodge her scissor throw?"
Gohan: "Scissor thro-oh!...Um..."
Gohan suddenly started to look embarrassed and not meet Bansuri's gaze, the Namekian continuing to stare at the called out college student without changing his expression.
Gohan: "...I'd rather not say..."
Bansuri: "...while I won't tell your parents, just know that I am definitely judging you"
Gohan: "C'mon Bansuri, surely you've..."
Gohan's attempt at justification died in his throat as he remembered that he was speaking with a Namekian, a species that didn't need to breed.
Gohan: "...Know what? Fair enough, but why did you lie about your telepathy?"
Bansuri: "She seemed like the sort to kick up a fuss over it and I couldn't be bothered dealing with that"
Bansuri shrugged and left Gohan to choose between adminishing Bansuri or admitting he was right. Gohan decided not to answer that internal question and just train with his father and Goten instead.
