"Let's do this one last time."
A man stepped forward into darkness, cloaked only in a semblance of light. It was far too dim to normally be considered as such but the entire room was nothing but a black void. Compared to the shadow around him, he was easy to distinguish.
Our hero of the story was shrouded from head to toe in his own personal suit. Black and red were the main two colours. The upper layer being predominantly red with the lower half being black. There were flares of red on both the back of his hands and on the bottom of feet.
On his chest was his symbol, a large spider with its legs encircling our hero's body and merging with the black of his suit. A smaller spider was also on his back but red to contrast the symbol on his chest. The top layer of his arm was covered red while the bottom remained black, his palm and flat side of his fingers included.
Finally he wore a red mask with two large sharp white eyes with the edge surrounded by a black lining.
"I'm Spider-Man but I'm not the only one…" The light dimmed and soon a red luminescent webbing of images of other Spider-men and women appeared. Showcasing their heroic acts, their bravery, their struggles, and their heartaches.
"I'm not the first Spider-Man and I certainly won't be the last. I'm not even the best Spider-Man, so I won't pretend to be or say that I am. Not long ago, none of you would have thought of me as a Spider-Man or as the cause for everything that was happening but now? I think it's important you know my story." Spider-Man reached up and pulled off his mask, blue-eyes unwavering, strong and passionate, something that matched his voice as he told his narrative.
"When I was fourteen, I was bitten by a radioactive spider that gave me spectacular powers and for the last seven years, I've been New York's one and only Spider-Man.
Which means I keep a pretty busy schedule handling a long list of super powered criminals but I wouldn't have it any other way."
Spider-Man was swinging through the buildings of New York, he flipped through the air before taking a deep dive. The wind rushed in his ears and his heart beat in excitement as the ground appeared closer. His right hand shot out, middle and ring finger curling as he pressed down on his palm.
THWIP!
An organic line of webbing left Spider-Man's wrist, attaching itself to a building, swinging the bug themed hero with a newfound velocity. He then threw out his left wrist and a new line of web shot out with another 'Thwip!'
He swung through the air as he called out to a figure surging with yellow electricity. "Electro, come back here, man. I need to charge my phone!"
"Shut up!" The villain, Electro roared as he charged a blast of concentrated electricity between his palms, hands shaking before he burst the energy towards Spider-man.
"Whoa!" He flipped through the air, creating another web and using his hands to crawl up it like the arachnid his powers were based off, swinging as he said, "are you mad at me? I feel like you're mad at me."
"You're so annoying," Max Dillon muttered before pointing his hands downwards, using the stored up energy in his body to zip away using the electrical currents in the air.
"Nuh-uh." Spider-Man denied as he was close behind one of his famous enemies, rolling his eyes behind his mask with a sigh "Come on, Electro, let's cut this short, I have a prior engagement that I will not be late to."
"Then why don't you just let me go?" Electro suggested as he briefly looked over his shoulder, making a sharp left when he was sure his greatest enemy had let his guard down, even just slightly, he tried to make a sudden and hasty retreat, flanking left but of course, it couldn't be that easy.
"Hey, leave the jokes to me, okay pal?" Spider-Man saw his electricity controlling enemy charging towards a crowd of people and his white eyes narrowed "Oh no you don't!"
He shot a line of webbing from his left hand then his right, his arm bulged as he twirled the webs around his wrist, using his strength to put the elasticity of his webbing to the test. As his arms started to shake, he realized that was his cue.
His feet stopped sticking to the ground, this action caused our hero to be flung from his spot, catapulting himself across the air towards Electro and tackling him through the air onto a nearby building, using his body to cushion the impact.
Spider-Man flipped off his downed foe and landed in a crouch, his masked eyes narrowing as Electro stumbled to his feet "Come on Max, just stay down."
The criminal seemed to flinch at him using his real name and not his criminal alter ego, the name he had become so familiar with that he had almost forgotten all about Max Dillon…
Electro shook his head, yellow surges of electricity surrounding him like a protective shield. His power continued to grow, creating a yellow mask above his face, "I'm not going back!"
Spider-Man sighed in disappointment as he fired a line of webbing from both his wrists. Electro, thinking it was an attack, crossed his arms in front of himself but stopped when he saw the spider themed hero pulling his arms back strongly. A groaning sound hit his ears, causing the meta human to turn around in time to see the falling water tower.
Electro made to move, eyes widening when he found his feet webbed to the rooftop. All he could do was close his eyes as the water tower crashed into him, spilling all its liquid contents onto the electricity controlling villain and shocking him from the mixture of his power and water.
After a few minutes, Electro lay there defeated, smoke rising off his still form.
Spider-Man shook his head as he fired a large web at Max, sticking him to the rooftop floor. He wouldn't be going anywhere until the police arrived.
Spider-Man pressed the inside of his mask, leaving a message for Captain Stacy along with a location for him to find Electro. The red and blue themed hero looked back at his downed opponent before firing another line of webbing and swinging away.
Just another morning for Spider-Man, it seemed.
(Ryker's Island)
Spider-Man had arrived on the special island that housed all his most dangerous enemies. Electro was surely picked up by the police and would be on his way here soon but back to why our favorite red and black themed hero was at said prison. He nodded or waved to the various guards who would take a moment out of their day to greet him. It was only natural considering he was a very familiar face or rather, mask to most.
Spider-Man was here for a very special reason. He was here to keep a promise he made to a friend. The arachnid themed hero found who he was looking for, a woman in her forties with brown hair done in a messy bun, holding the shoulder of her daughter who had hair identical to her mother but a difference being her
bright brown eyes, those she shared with her father.
"Mrs Marco?" The woman turned to face one of New York's greatest heroes, looking nervous as she nodded her head in greeting.
"Spider-Man." Her daughter could only stare in awe at meeting her favorite hero, feeling shy under his masked gaze. He must have seemed to notice as he crouched down, giving the chestnut haired girl a wave, his voice cheerful.
"Hi, Penny." His mask's eyes seemed to make it clear he was smiling underneath his mask, his natural charisma and kindness putting the girl at ease "I'm glad to see you're much better."
"Thank you, Mr Spider-Man." Spider-Man turned back towards Penny's mother, crossing his arms as he asked.
"Are you guys ready?"
"If it was up to me, Penny wouldn't be anywhere near him but we have an agreement. So, I suppose we'll be as ready as we ever are. Just promise she'll be safe." Spider-Man sighed briefly at her tone before giving a nod, understanding why she was concerned.
"You have nothing to fear, Ma'am. Penny will be perfectly safe with me." Mrs Marko gave a reluctant nod of her own before turning to her daughter and leaned down so she was the same level with her only child before giving her a kiss on the cheek and straightening her pink and blue jacket.
"She better be. Enjoy your time with your Father, sweetheart. I'll see you soon, " Mrs Marko promised before watching with a sad smile as Spider-Man led her inside.
It was a short trip to the special visitation room where over a dozen guards where suited up and armed to the teeth, standing and waiting at the ready. Penny, unable to help herself, held her favorite hero's hand, slightly scared by the armored men and the various prisoners they had passed.
Spider-Man didn't seem to mind and gave her hand a squeeze back. They were given clearance to enter and as soon as they did, a large smile broke onto Penny's face, she let go of Spider-Man's hand as she ran towards her father.
"Dad!" Flint Marko lifted his head at the sound of his daughter's voice and a rare and true smile broke across his face at the sight of her. Penny ran into his open arms and hugged him tight, Flint did the same, never wanting to let her go. It had been so long since he's seen her, already a teenager when he was sure she was just the same tiny kid always wanting ice cream for dinner. Where had the time gone?
"When did I say you could grow so big? Stop, immediately." Penny giggled at her dad, said man releasing a hearty chuckle before asking his daughter everything that was going on in her life, wanting to be caught up with everything.
Spider-Man leaned against the wall, watching the wholesome interaction with his arms crossed and a smile beneath his mask.
This was the best part of his job. While yes, swinging through the city was amazing and he loved every second of it, as well as fighting crime, doing the right thing with his powers; none of that compared to when he got to help people, civilians, heroes, even his own villains.
In his eyes, second chances mattered and while not everyone deserves a second chance, for those who did deserve it, well it was his job, no, his responsibility to show them and lead them down a better path if he could.
He was already successful with his old science mentor, Doctor Curtis Connors. The man who in an attempt to regrow his missing limb, spliced his DNA with that of a reptile. His good intentions lead to monstrous results, leaving him no longer a man, but a mistake of science.
The good doctor had become so consumed by his new DNA and the addictive nature of the transformation, he nearly ate his wife and son if not for the timely arrival of Spider-Man. To save Doctor Connors from making the biggest mistake of his life, he lured the man away from his home into the sewers where they fought. It ended with Connors' transformation being reversed and for Spider-Man? A new set of scars to add to the building collection he would soon gain over the years.
Flint Marko took quite a few years before he even considered turning a new leaf but the promise of seeing his daughter again with visitation rights after a few years of good behavior as well as a strong recommendation from his nemesis went a long way.
His daughter was an excellent motivator to make sure he stayed on the straight and narrow. It seemed finally all his hard work and patience had finally paid off.
The more cynical of the world might say it was only two people out of the countless villains still inhabiting New York. While that was true, Spider-Man saw it differently. He saw it as two men trying to be better, to show the world that they could do better.
In our favorite hero's eyes, that was something to fight for. He was even sure he was making a breakthrough with another one of his villains, another scientist with a brilliant mind, Doctor Otto Octavious. Another good man led down the wrong path but was on his road to recovery. He had seemingly taken a momentary lapse, having broken out of Ryker's and disappearing entirely. The red, blue and black themed hero hoped he was okay.
It seemed an hour came far too quickly for the father daughter duo. They briefly worked on Penny's homework before moving onto just talking, well Penny was doing all the talking, Flint just seemed content to listen.
But when the inevitable came for Penny to leave, she gave her father the biggest hug she had ever given him, afraid that it could be the last in a long time. Flint Marko held his entire world in his arms before reluctantly letting her go, slowly waving goodbye as a few guards remained outside, just leaving hero and ex-villain.
"Thank you." Spider-Man didn't say anything, simply turning his head to look at Flint, content to let the man say what he needed to say. "I don't think I'd ever get to see her again, not willingly at least but because of you, my baby doesn't have to live in a world without her father in her life. Thank you, Naruto."
Spider-Man or rather Naruto, didn't flinch at Flint using his real name. The man was one of a rare few who knew of his secret identity, something he had shared to show he was serious about his promise of reuniting him with his daughter. Some might call him a fool. If wanting to see the good in others and taking a chance was foolish, then that's what he was and would always remain: a fool.
"It's no problem, Flint. I'm just happy everything is working out. I'll be back in a couple weeks." Naruto offered his hand, smiling underneath his mask. Flint glanced down at the offered appendage before shaking hands with his enemy once, now friend.
"I look forward to it, good luck out there." Naruto appreciated the words, giving a thumbs up as he walked towards the door.
"All I can do is my best."
"Your best is enough." Flint could tell the hero appreciated his words, giving him a nod before leaving, going to do the job he loved, protecting his city.
We find Naruto once again swinging through the city with half his mask pulled up as he was eating a hotdog, a hotdog he got for free! One of the perks of his job was that when people noticed his hard work and they took the time to do something nice for him. It made the hotdog taste that much better.
Nearly dropping his food as a call rang through his mask, he quickly pressed a button close to his ear answering the caller. "Hello?"
"Hey Naruto, it's Peter." The spider themed hero was happy to hear from his old friend, realizing it had been a good couple of weeks since he even talked to his friend, let alone seen him.
"Hey, Peter. What's up man?" Naruto asked as he flipped through the air, finishing the rest of his food with a big gulp and tapping his chest with his fist as he pulled the rest of his mask down his face.
"Just calling to see if you're still going to hang out with Mary Jane and I tonight?" Naruto's eyes widened. He had completely forgotten and if the silence on the other side of the phone was any indication, his best friend was starting to realize it also.
Naruto was quick to get away from his friends worries by saying, "Of course. I just gotta swing by my folks' place. Haven't seen them in a while and you know how mom is."
"Heh, yeah I know. MJ is practically the same-" Spider-Man had to stifle a chuckle as he could hear the phone being ripped out of his best friend's hands before the voice of his favorite redhead, other than his mother, blared from the headset in his mask.
"-That's right! So you better get your butt over here mister!"
"Alright, alright. I'll see you guys soon. I promise." Naruto swore. The conversation didn't last much longer when he saw his parents' apartment. Saying a quick goodbye, he ended the call before landing on the fire escape, sighing in relief when he saw the bag he left earlier in the day still where he left it.
He quietly lifted the window before sneaking in, showing how much he was used to this by swapping out of his hero outfit for his civilian clothes in seconds. Blonde spikes of hair shone in the sunlight and peach skin that was usually hidden underneath his suit had taken on a slight pale hue.
Blue-eyes caught himself in the mirror. His whiskered birthmarks were pulled back from his smile, his checkered long sleeve flannel rested above his black T-shirt with a picture of Einstein and his old, slightly faded blue jeans had the ends tucked into his shoes. He shoved his suit back into his duffle bag and hid it under the bed of his old room.
He was quiet as he heard commotion in the kitchen. Mom was already cooking and from what he could guess just from the aroma, it was delicious. He peeked his head through the doorway and smiled at the sight of his mother, Kushina Uzumaki, with her crimson hair done in a long ponytail and her favorite orange apron on like usual, humming the same song she did every time she cooked.
Then there was his old man, sitting at the dinner table with a pair of glasses resting on the bridge of his nose, working on a device that could help Naruto while he was out being Spider-Man.
Naruto pleasantly surprised his parents by walking into the kitchen, grinning as he pulled his Mom into a hug she happily returned. "Hey Mom, it's good to see you. Mmm~, it smells delicious."
"Hello, sweetheart. Why don't you call your mother more often? Don't you know how much we worry about you?" Kushina smacked her son lightly on the head with her wooden spoon, starting to chastised him when she realized how he entered the apartment "And what have I told you about using the fire escape?! What if someone sees?"
"Come on ,Ma', no one saw and I was careful. It's not like I've been doing this for years, you know?" Kushina rolled her eyes before pointing with her spatula at the table.
"Don't remind me. Now go move your father's junk and set up the table, please."
"Sure, no problem."
"Thank you, sweetheart. Dinner shouldn't be much longer." Naruto nodded, smiling at the sight of his father, face scrunched up in thought, screwdriver in hand, jumping in pleasant surprise when Naruto tapped him on the shoulder.
"Hey pops." Minato grinned up at his son and patted him on the back before turning back to his device, adjusting his glasses as he said,
"Good to see you, son."
"What ya' working on?" Naruto asked as he placed his fathers tools away, bringing him a box to pack away his inventions and get back to them at a later date.
"Just some things to help you during 'work'. In my professional opinion, it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it." Minato said as he adjusted his glasses, smiling as Kushina placed his plate on the table, kissing his cheek.
"Wise as ever, dear."
Minato gave a hearty chuckle, lightly holding his wife's hand with a humble smile. "I try."
Kushina placed her son's plate on the table before placing down her own as well. Before she took a seat, she couldn't help but pull Naruto into another big hug, happy to have him home even if he did move out a couple years ago, she knew this would always be his home.
"Now, how have you been?" Kushina asked as she took her own seat, grateful her two boys waited for her before eating.
"I'm good Ma'. It's pretty much the same old same old really. Oh, I've made an amazing headway with Flint, he even got to see his daughter today for the first time in years." His parents looked pleased, no, proud of his accomplishments .
His father seemed hesitant to speak his mind but with the comfort and support of his wife, he managed to ask, "And Otto?"
"I haven't been able to find him ever since he escaped Ryker." Naruto frowned when Minato's face slightly fell, disappointed that was all to be heard about his oldest friend. "Don't worry Dad, I haven't given up on him. I know there's still good in him."
Minato couldn't help but smile at his son, feeling comforted by his words. He tapped his boy on the shoulder with a tender smile as he said "Thank you son. Thank you for not giving up on him."
"It's my job." Naruto responded with a bright and hopeful grin.
Dinner continued to be more than pleasant with our favorite blonde hero promising his mother that he would be back for another family dinner, much sooner then last time.
He gave Kushina a kiss on the cheek and his Dad a quick goodbye hug, before throwing back on his suit and swung towards Peter's and MJ's place, duffle bag in hand.
Naruto landed on top of the rooftop of a large apartment complex. Once again, he changed out of his hero outfit before webbing the duffle bag to the side entrance wall. Seemed like either Peter or MJ left the door ajar with a brick. Always so considerate.
The whiskered blonde stuffed his cold hands into his semi warm pockets as he leapt down the large flight of stairs through the gap. Using his left hand and a web to pull his descent, he cushioned his momentum by sticking to the side of a wall. Leaping off the wall, he walked into the hallway, quickly finding the door to MJ and Peter's apartment
He gave three hearty knocks before waiting and he didn't have to wait long before the door swung open, revealing another irritated red head once again waiting for him. Naruto grinned and scratching the back of his head as he laughed awkwardly "Am I late?"
"*Sigh* almost late." Mary Jane stepped to the side, allowing her long-time friend entrance and gave him a quick hug then proceeding to punch him in the arm. "That's for not coming to see your friends in a long time. Your best friends, need I remind you."
"I know, I'm sorry, MJ and sorry to you too, Pete." Naruto called out to his best friend as he hung up his coat, chuckling when the nerdy man himself peeked his head around the corner, giving a light hearted smile as he said.
"It's okay."
"No Peter, it's not okay." MJ sighed, giving Naruto an apologetic smile as she joined her friend on the couch. "I'm sorry, Naruto. It's just… we miss you and worry about you."
Peter rejoined his friends, resting a hand on MJ's shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze of comfort before joining his girlfriend. "We just want what's best for you, buddy."
Naruto gave an awkward smile as he scratched the back of his head, his nails running through his blonde locks. "You guys don't need to worry about me. New York has never been safer thanks to your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man."
Peter shared a glance with Mary Jane before turning his focus back to the whiskered hero. "What about Naruto Uzumaki? How much of his life do you pay attention to other than Spider-Man?"
"Uhhh…Well. Works fine, I mean the apprenticeship with Reed Richards pays great." Naruto tried to convince Peter before webbing a drink into his hand, taking a sip then sighing at their unconvinced looks.
"You know that's not what I'm talking about. Actually, I was talking to Liz the other day and she was asking about you." Mary Jane hinted as she showed the whiskered blonde a current picture of their shared classmate.
"Liz from high school? I don't know MJ," Naruto muttered as he looked towards Peter for help, only to see his oldest friend had left him to deal with the redhead by himself. Traitor.
"Alright, alright, I get it. How about one of my acting friends? I know this one girl, she's super cute and just your type." Naruto found himself sighing once again as he struggled to find the right way to reject MJ's kind offer.
"While I appreciate it, I don't think it's a good idea for me to date a regular girl. Hero life and civilian life make things complicated." He had great experience with that first hand, the last civilian girl he dated was Betty Brett, she was great and they had fun but you could only miss so many dates and dinners before the person waiting for you, stops waiting.
MJ frowned as she softly said, "It seems that way with your hero life as well. I mean what about you and Laura?"
Naruto smiled as he briefly thought about Laura Kinney. One of the toughest hero's he had ever met. If you were to ever search up deadly but beautiful, he was sure a picture of Laura was bound to show up.
The whiskered blonde shook away the good memories as he explained why he and Laura couldn't be together. "Laura has had it rough and when she came to New York, we had fun. She was great, still is great but it just didn't work out, you know? She needed to go find her 'Father' and see if there were more mutants out there."
Peter came back during the middle of Naruto's explanation and handed the hero his own bowl of popcorn while holding his one to share with MJ in his other hand. "We just want you to be happy."
"I am happy. I'm with my two best friends in the world and about to watch some 'so bad, they're good' horror flicks. What more could I ask for?" Naruto asked, missing both his friends' concerned look as he munched softly on his popcorn.
He was fine.
(Later That Night)
A depressed Naruto lay on his back on his bed, staring up at his ceiling as the song 'Brandy' by the Looking Glass played throughout his dark room. New York's resident hero found himself reflecting on his conversation with his best friends. How…lonely he found himself at times.
Don't get him wrong, he had plenty of amazing friends he was grateful for but something he was starting to really wish for in life was someone special. A person he could confide in, someone to share his secret with, someone to love.
Someone to come home to…
He had to remind himself he had plenty of opportunities to have what he wanted but like always he chose the city, the responsibility of Spider-man rather than his own happiness. He was like the sailor in the song, choosing the Sea.
Even now, he could remember Laura's sad brown eyes when he didn't leave New York with her. Unfortunately it wasn't just Laura.
Naruto had the opportunity to become an Avenger at the time with his girlfriend Kamala aka Ms Marvel but ended up rejecting the offer, knowing he would have to leave NY and be tied down by authority rather than the current freedom he was used too.
If he closed his eyes and thought back, he could still feel her lips on his own in a final goodbye kiss, the way it felt was still fresh in his mind to this day. So sweet and tender yet bitter.
Bitter that something wonderful had to end. Bitter that he had to end something so wonderful.
As he lay there, staring at his ceiling with depressed eyes, Naruto thought back to his conversation earlier that night with his best friends.
What about Naruto Uzumaki? Doesn't he deserve to be happy too?
When does responsibility become too much? So many questions and wants but no answers to give. In the end, the best our favorite hero could do was hope he would find what he was looking for someday.
Naruto yawned as he watched dawn break over the city, embracing NY in the warm rays of sun. Just like a spider, he hung upside down as he very carefully drank the hot chocolate he bought earlier, the plastic cup warming his suit covered hands as he brought the piping hot chocolate flavored beverage to his lips, letting out a satisfied 'Ahhh.'
His breath was visible from the cold, before disappearing into the chilly air. Naruto finished the rest of his delicious beverage before leaping into the air, web shooting his empty cup into a nearby trashing can.
A 'Thwip' ran through the air as a line of webbing attached itself to a nearby building, swinging our favorite hero through the city he protects on a daily basis.
Then something strange happened, his mask started to ring, an unknown caller. Naruto frowned, hesitant but answered the call all the same. "Hello?"
"Naruto, it's good to hear from you my boy…"
"Doctor Octavious!" Naruto swung to a nearby rooftop, landing with a crouch. He rose quickly from his crouched position, two fingers pressed into the side of his mask as he said. "While I'm thankful for the call, I'm surprised. You left Ryker after we were making such great progress."
"I'm sorry Naruto, I…." The whiskered teen frowned at the sound of his old mentor's voice, the sound of a man in defeat and questioning his actions.
"It's okay Doc, I just want to help you." Naruto swore, pacing back and forth on the rooftop, hoping to get through to his fathers oldest friend.
"That is precisely why I am calling. I've made a grave mistake."
"What have you done Doc?" Naruto asked, afraid of what the answer may be. Afraid that Otto Octavious may have finally gone too far this time.
"I let Osborn get into my head, he promised me…he promised me, I could have my Rosie back if I helped him." Naruto grimaced at one of Spider-Man's biggest failures, not being there in time to save Otto's wife from dying during one his mad experiments as Doc Ock. "He stole something from Reed Richards, a device, in its early stages mind you, possibly capable of traveling dimensions."
"Goblin traveling dimensions is definitely bad, the amount of damage and chaos he could bring gives me chills just thinking about it." Naruto muttered after he felt a terrible chill run up and down his spine.
"It's far more grave than that, I'm afraid."
"What do you mean Doc?"
Otto sighed, unknown to Naruto, rubbing his eyes behind his signature glasses, feeling and looking tired as he confessed. "Once I had finished the Reed Richards work, Osborn did get his hands on it but not in the way I expected. The mad fool! He turned it into a bomb!"
"A bomb?!" Naruto yelled, eyes wide. He panicked asked "Doc where are you?!"
"He wanted to make a spectacle of it, a masterpiece that no one would ever forget. He plans to show off his device in Times Square so the world can see his madness." Naruto sighed, he was on the completely other side of the city.
"Tch, I'm gonna have to book it if I'm going to make it in time!" The red and black themed hero prepared himself to run off the rooftop and start web swinging like he's never web swung before.
"Naruto, wait!" Spider-Man skidded to a stop, nearly falling off the side of the roof as he used his left leg to stick to the rooftop.
Naruto regained his balance, once again pressing two fingers into the side of his mask. "What is it Doc? I gotta hurry if I'm going to stop the bomb."
"It's a trap. It's not just Osborn. It's Venom, Martin Li and an army of his demons. The Rhino, Shocker and Scorpion. There's so many of them…I don't know how we will stop them." The defeat in Doc's voice was plentiful and given the situation, our favorite hero couldn't blame him.
Naruto sighed, of course there had to be a massive army in his way of a dimensional bomb. It could never be easy for Spider-Man, could it?
"I will stop them Doctor Octavious, I have too." Naruto swore as he once again got himself ready, praying he wouldn't be too late. "Just have what I need on stand by to stop the damn thing and leave the butt kicking to me."
"Godspeed, Spider-Man." Otto's said before ending communication with the arachnid themed hero. Naruto wasted no more time as he ran faster than he ever had before. Bits of the ground beneath him cracking from the amount of power he was putting into his legs.
"If it's as bad as Doc says it is, I'm gonna need some back up."
Thwip!
"I really hope no one's busy…" Naruto bemoaned to himself as he swung through the city, becoming a red and black blur as he called Peter. "Peter, I need your help. Something bad is going to go down in Times Square. Call the police, have them evacuate the area asap! Thanks Pete!"
(Times Square)
Norman Osborn stared at his magnum opus with pride. It had been surprisingly easy to steal the device from the 'great' Reed Richards, even easier to trick that fool Octavious into doing his bidding. A simple false promise of reuniting the man with his dead wife in another dimension was more than enough to gain his support. Was there a chance Octavious would betray him and use the dimension traveling device for himself? Absolutely. That was why Norman added his own flair to the device.
Before he crossed dimensions, he wanted to see the despair in Spider-Man's eyes, in his voice as his world was destroyed.
It would be the ultimate victory.
With the help of Martin Li's demons and even that foolish behemoth, Rhino, everything was done surprisingly quickly. However, there was a slight…problem. There was not a soul in sight. No victims to torture his favourite spider over, nothing.
It was as if someone had warned him of his plans beforehand. The Goblin's yellow eyes snapped over to Octavious…spineless just like the mollusk he was named after but it wouldn't matter soon. Soon he would have his victory…
As the Green Goblin sat upon his 'throne' plotting, the demons patrolled and the rest of the Sinister Six waited. The murder of villains anticipated Spider-Man's heroic debut, yet no one noticed Naruto crouched above them on a skyscraper, awaiting his chance to strike.
He was outnumbered, all the people in the world who hated his guts were waiting down below to tear him apart. There was a very likely chance he could die…but as his buddy Wade would say, this wasn't anything that couldn't be solved with a bit of 'Maximum Effort'.
Naruto stepped off the side of the skyscraper in a free fall, arms and hands by his side as the wind whistled past his ears, a smirk on his lips as his rather big Rhinoceros target grew closer and closer. The spider themed hero clenched his fists as golden currents of electricity traveled up his arms and along his chest. Soon his entire form was covered in his own bio electricity.
Twin 'Thwip's' alerted the villains down below of Spider-Man's arrival but it was far too late for them to stop what was coming. The lining of webs were on each side of Rhino causing the very large Russian man to look up, his eyes widening behind his armored suit, managing to utter a curse in his native tongue before Naruto hit him like a missile.
KA-SHOOOOOMMMMM!
Spittle flew from Rhino's mouth as Spider-Man used his face as a landing pad, both feet packing a tremendous amount of force as the behemoth tumbled back, the ground below cracking and even caving in on itself but it didn't end there, the bio-electricity that had been shrouding Naruto's entire form burst out in a golden storm. The demons that were stationed with Rhino were not spared. Over ten armed men joined their heaviest hitter in shocked unconsciousness.
"Sorry to drop in like this, oh wait, no, I'm not sorry. I'm not sorry at all." Naruto quipped as he leapt off Rhino's downed form, the bio-electricity fading away as he stared down the sinister army. "You guys wanna make this easy on me and surrender now or after you're all black and blue?"
"Kill him!" Goblin's shout was so loud and hateful, you would think all of New York would have heard it and they did as a helicopter with a brave crew inside recorded and reported on the upcoming fight down below.
Martin Li's demons yelled and roared like beasts as they charged forward, weapons in hand, enhanced by their leader's negative power and attacked in a wave of men and blades.
A group of demons each carrying a katana moved in sync, stabbing their blades in the ground before ripping it out in a slashing motion, sending out a current of energy towards the masked blonde. The energy ripped apart the concrete like a shark through blood infested water. Naruto's spider sense screamed at him to move and it seemed like he did it by the skin of his teeth, flipping over the barrage with the grace of a spider, only to be snatched out of the air by a pair of whips soaked in negative energy.
Spider-Man groaned in pain as he was bounced off the concrete ground before being flung away. The demon who surprised Naruto had a smug smile that was quickly wiped away as the still soaring red and black themed hero shot off a line of web that found itself stuck tight to his chest. He barely managed to widen his eyes behind his own mask before he was ripped from his spot, soaring towards Naruto who had twisted his body while pulling on the webbing hard, catching his attacker. Electricity surged throughout his body and onto the man he used as a battery to store the output, shocking the demon briefly before the current was dispersed from out his body and onto other demons who made contact with his flying form.
Naruto didn't stop, continuing his assault with a nasty uppercut that sent a man over seven feet tall and wider than the biggest MMA fighter flying like he weighed nothing. He was out cold before he hit the ground but that didn't deter the rest of Martin Li's demons from continuing their assault.
"We've been waiting for you, araña pequeña." Spider-Man twisted his body, avoiding a gigantic scorpion stinger dripping with green venom. The cause? A man of Mexican descent who was missing the lower half of his body, replaced with something more mechanical and animalistic.
He truly had earned the name Scorpion.
"It's time we squash you, once and for all." Naruto looked over his shoulder to see a man dressed heavily in a yellow protective body suit with a bronze armor layering leading to the heavy looking gauntlets strapped to his arms stopping at the wrist.
"Shocker, why aren't I shocked to see you here?" Naruto quipped, his smile growing at the angry frustrated groan Shocker released, aiming his gauntlets at our favorite hero.
"God, I hate you."
"I love you too, buddy." The arachnid themed hero leapt out of the way of Shocker's attack. The demons who were approaching from behind, did not.
The shockwave ripped apart the street, leaving deep trenches in its destructive wake. Naruto used a web to swing close to Herman Shultz, using his momentum to put some extra 'oomph' into his attack. Shocker was left slightly winded from the blow, the plating on his chest indented as his back struck a wall leaving him momentarily dazed as he struggled to pick himself up.
MOVE!
Naruto's spider sense alerted him at the perfect time to dodge Scorpion's surprise attack, leaping over the man's tail while also snaring it in thick webbing. The prosthetic slammed into the ground, getting the stinger stuck thanks to the blonde's guidance. Spider-man held the tail in a cupped motion with his hands, using it as a swing to slam into Scorpions unprotected chest. His tail was ripped free as his body was sent soaring into a car, the windshield cracking and caving in on itself.
"Rahhhhh!" Spider-Man ducked and weaved the wild attacks of a man wielding what looked like a scythe. He twirled the bladed staff with years of mastery, hoping to decapitate the spider menace.
Yet Naruto dodged all his attacks easily, sliding between the gap of his legs, the whiskered blonde was back on his feet while simultaneously sending a roundhouse kick into his attacker's unguarded side, surely cracking a rib or two.
TURN AROUND!
Naruto's spider sense once again screamed at him but he was far too slow to dodge the incoming blow. Martin Li had seen the chance to sneak in a devastating attack of his own, channeling pure concentrated negative energy between his two hands before firing the white and black chaotic energy at our hero.
Naruto had enough time to cross his arms in front of himself as he braced himself against the blast, his bio-electricity acting as a temporary shield, fighting against the negative energy. His feet left trenches in the ground as he was pushed back, Spider-Man broke his cross-armed stance, instead holding out his hand to push against the energy. He grit his teeth as he took a step forward then another and then another.
Martin roared as he put more power into his negative blast but alas it meant nothing against Naruto's determination and sheer willpower. Our favorite blonde moved on from just walking, he started to run against the blast. Getting closer and closer until he was close enough to leap into the air, a line of webbing seemingly missing Martin Li but this particular web wasn't made to ensnare but rather pull. It stuck to the ground next to Mister Negative and with a harsh pull, Naruto flung himself forward, right arm cocked backwards with his bioelectricity surging around his arm like a snake.
Martin barely managed to widen his eyes a fraction before the jaw cracking punch knocked him out. He collapsed to the ground as the negative energy flowed back into his body, his skin returning back to its regular colour and most of the demons found themselves losing the power granted to them by Martin.
Naruto's momentum proved too great and he skipped off the ground before crashing into a nearby window, groaning as he rested on his back, thankful no glass had pierced his suit.
"What a day…" Spider-Man muttered to himself, staring at the shadowed ceiling with half lidded eyes until he saw something move in the blackness. A brief spotting of white confused the blonde before he had a strong urge to move.
VENOM!
The gigantic terrifying black monstrosity that was Venom crashed down where Naruto was moments ago. Milky white eyes glared at our hero through the darkness. A smile filled with razor sharp teeth gleamed at Naruto as drool fell from his large maw. A tongue that was far too long slithered out of his mouth like a serpent "Hello Spider-Man~. We've been waiting for you."
"I was wondering when you were going to show your ugly mug Eddie. What? Was the beating I gave you last time not enough?"
"Today is the day we redeem our humiliation. I will not just defeat you Spider-Man but I will destroy you and hold out your beating heart before your very eyes."
"Yeah, like I haven't heard that one before." Naruto muttered before he was tackled out the building by Venom, his back to the ground with the symbiote towering over him. His lips parted and slobber started to stain Naruto's costume. Our favorite blonde's legs briefly shook as he used his lower limbs to keep one of his greatest villains back, grimacing as his foul tongue slid across his masked face "That's disgusting! Personal space man!"
Naruto managed to kick Venom off himself then proceeded to flip back onto his feet. Looking around himself to see he was surrounded on all sides. Spider-man shot his right wrist out, hoping to web away to get some space but it seems his enemies anticipated this act as they cut the webbing before it could get anywhere.
Shocker, now recovered, hit Naruto with one of his most powerful shockwaves, watching in glee as windows shattered, cars were flipped over and Spider-Man was sent flying back, into the awaiting clutches of a now awake and furious Rhino "Well, look what I have here? A tiny spider…"
Naruto dazed from the shockwave, still managed to throw out a sloppy right hook into the giant of a man's unprotected jaw. Rhino growled as his head jerked to the side, stumbling as his jaw throbbed lightly. Spittle flew from his mouth as he screamed "I CRUSH YOU!"
Our hero barely had a chance to brace himself before a large hand grabbed both his feet and legs in a crushing grip. Swinging the spider themed hero into the ground, face first.
SMASH!
Naruto wailed in agony as his head pounded, his face ached and his ribs gave way under the pressure but Rhino didn't stop. He continued his revenge with another ground shaking slam.
SMASH!
Spider-Man lost his ability to yell as the wind was knocked right out of his lungs. His back imprinting into the ground was silenced by the demon's cheers. The on looking villains all watched in satisfaction and pure delight.
But Otto? He watched in horror as his best friend's son was slowly being beaten to death. His mechanical arms whined and he made to move but one look from Goblin froze him in place. He couldn't begin to describe the pure malice wafting off the man, the look in his eyes, it promised something dreadful if he dared to move.
He would die and it would be slow.
SMASH!
The final hit made Naruto momentarily black out, going limp and simply hanging there as his healing factor slowly but steadily healed his wounds.
(The citizen's of New York)
Many advent supporters and believers in Spider-Man watched in terror and despair at the seemingly beaten state of their beloved hero.
Children cried in their parents arms, teens and adults who religiously wore their favorite Spider-Man shirt or anything personal to them that reminded them of the red and black themed hero, clenching said personal item as they prayed, the arachnid themed hero would find his way out of this disaster like he did every other time and win.
Kushina was in tears, holding onto her husband for dear life as she sobbed. She always knew there would be a chance something horrible like this would happen, so that was why when she first found out her son was Spider-Man, she begged him to give up the mask, to stop being a hero.
But she knew asking something like that from her son was impossible. However as she stared at the screen showing the bleeding form of her boy, her baby, Kushina knew she would blame herself and the rest of the world if anything happened to her son.
While his wife was reeling in despair, Minato was running on hope. Hope that his son will find his way out of this mess, hope something or someone will help him. Hope that his hero will survive.
On the streets of New York a young woman accompanied by a man with a ducktail styled hair with bits of gray even reaching his mutton chops were watching the events on a screen protected by the store's glass.
The young woman's long black hair blew in the wind as her hands clenched tight. Eyes shaking in rage as a snarl started to pull back on her lips.
She rushed from her spot, speeding towards our beloved hero, hoping that she would make it in time. Not alone as her older companion joined her, ready for a good fight.
(Back with Naruto and The Sinister Six)
Green Goblin started to snicker and then his snickering turned into chuckling before bursting into maddening laughter "Looks like our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is no more. You were too weak to stop us, too weak to save the city."
Naruto slowly opened his least swollen eye and then the other, grimacing when he felt the cool air touch his tender face. A quarter of his mask was destroyed, bits of blonde hair peaked out of the broken mask and a single blue eye glared weakly at the laughing madman.
"It's time to finally kill the Spider-Man!" Goblin's death cheer caused Martin Li's demons to cheer and give death cry's of their own.
"Kill him!"
"Rip him in half!"
"Tear his head off!"
Rhino let out a quiet 'Hmph' before lifting our hero high with both hands, ready to rip Naruto in half, only stopping at the sound of a blood curdling cry followed by another and another. Demons started to fall but not in waves but rather a direct line, as if something small was mowing them down.
"Raghhhhh!" A small female figure leapt past the demons and over Rhino's head. Blood trickled down the man's arms as something or rather someone cut his hands, forcing him to let go of Spider-Man.
Naruto was thankful for whoever saved him, grimacing as he slowly opened his eyes only for them to widen. He couldn't help the absolute joy brimming in his voice as he called out his savior's name "Laura!"
The deadly beauty gave the spider themed hero a small smile before resting her head against his own, nuzzling Naruto as she held his hand "I missed you…"
"I missed you too." Naruto felt happy to know Laura had missed him as much as he missed her, that even though when she was traveling the world she still thought and wanted to see him again, brought back all those feelings he thought he put to rest.
"Well, well, the Spider tiene nova." Scorpion said mockingly before laughing, the tip of his stinger dripping with green poisonous venom.
With Laura's help Naruto was once again on his feet, back to back with the deadly beauty as he held his fists up. "While I appreciate the save, was it a good idea to come alone?"
Laura glanced over her shoulder, a small smirk on her plump peach coloured lips. "I didn't come alone."
"Huh?"
"RAHHHHHGGGGGG!" A roar that sounded primal, animalistic and angry. The demons were no match for the short aggressor as he chopped and cut his way through. He gave Laura a brief nod before continuing his bloody assault.
"Gah!? My arm!"
"My leg!"
"Who's that?" Naruto asked as he briefly got a glance at a short, animalistic man with six blades protruding from his knuckles, three on each hand and thickly coated in blood.
"My 'father'." Laura replied simply, the claws in her own hands popping out with a silent 'shink!'.
"Oh….cool." Naruto said as he turned away from his mutant companion, raising his fists up once more for what surely would be a hell of a fight against a small army.
Fwoooshhhhhh!
Fire spewed from the sky and Martin Li's charging demon's along with Scorpion had no way of protecting themselves or stopping the explosion that followed, rocking all of Time Square. Naruto's only revealed eye narrowed before shooting open in realization, a happy shout leaving his chest as he called out the name of his savior. "Johnny!"
"Reed's waiting for you near the bomb. You better get goin' webhead." Johnny Storm said playfully to his long time comrade and friend as he floated in the sky, looking like a small sun that had come down to greet the earth itself. He gave Naruto a two fingered salute before flying down to deal with the rest of Martin Li's demons.
"You better leave, we'll talk after this is all over." Laura swore, giving Naruto one of her rare but beautiful smiles.
"Promise?" Naruto asked as he walked backwards, Laura didn't need to see underneath his mask to know his goofy grin was present.
"Promise." That was all the whiskered blonde to hear before he prepared to web away. Giving Laura a nod, he shot out his left wrist and fired a line of webbing. Swinging away as his ex engaged in battle alongside her father.
Naruto's still healing muscles burned as the dimensional bomb once again was in sight, he redoubled his efforts but then the red and black spider themed hero's spider senses screamed at him to move, saving his life..
RHINO!
"TINY SPIDER!" Rhino roared as he leapt towards his greatest nemesis, his giant mits open wide in another attempt to crush the spider themed hero. Naruto charged his bio-electricity into his right hand, prepared to fight the rhinoceros themed villain, only for someone to save him the trouble. A giant blur of orange tackled Rhino out of the air, and onto the ruined streets.
"IT'S CLOBBERIN TIME!"
"Ben!" Naruto cheered as the physically strongest hero of the fantastic four, Ben Grimm or better known as The Thing beat Rhino to a pulp. For a brief moment, he looked over his shoulder to give his fellow hero a nod and a thumbs up. Ben then turned his attention back to Rhino, cracking his orange rock like knuckles as his fellow behemoth rose to his full terrifying height. Spittle flew from his snarling lips as he roared, charging like the very beast he was named after.
Ben gave a quiet 'hmph' before spitting on the ground. He charged himself and met Rhino in a dominance clash of pure strength. The ground cracked and windows shattered but in the end, Rhino was no match for 'The Thing'. His superior strength shocked the Rhino and left him unready for a right hook that sent his titanic form soaring across the street. Rhino screamed as he impacted a very large truck, the vehicle exploded in a ball of fire.
THUD!
Rhino groaned as he pulled his indented body out of the street. Smoke rose heavily off his burned form and armor that was hot to the touch. His blurry vision caught the sight of orange rocked feet and then nothing.
The sinister six were now down a member.
Naruto clicked the earpiece in his mask, answering the call from Ben. "Rhino's out for the count kid."
The whiskered blonde sighed in relief, dodging gun fire and using a nearby lamp post to swing himself further away "Thanks Ben, you're a lifesaver!"
"Araña pequeña!" Naruto sighed heavily in annoyance as he flipped over Scorpion's flying tackle. Taking a hold of the villain's mechanical tail and using his own superior spider strength, Naruto yelled as he spun mid air and threw the scorpion-like man to the ground. The Latino villain groaned as his extra legs helped him find some support, his tail thrashed around wildly spewing its toxins from the tip of the stinger.
"Scorpion, I don't have time for this! Get the hell out of my way!" Naruto demanded as he maneuvered out of the way of Scorpion's flying toxins.
"You'll make the time!" Scorpion roared as his mechanical legs carried him across to his arch nemesis. His right arm that resembled a scorpion's claw snipped and snapped as the Latino super villain drew closer.
Bang!
Scorpion paused in his charge, looking around wildly for the man who had the cojones to attack one of the sinister six. The one responsible? It was none other than a man dressed in a red and black full bodysuit with a pair of handguns in hand and two katanas strapped to his back in a 'X' fashion.
"Leave my best buddy alone!" The merc with a mouth but better known as Deadpool, called out from on top of the building he was perched on, recklessly spinning one of his guns with his finger inside the trigger guard.
"Wade?" Naruto called out confused but happy to see one of his closest friends here in his time of need.
"Superhero landing!" Deadpool yelled as he swan dived off the tall building. His masked eyes closed alongside his real eyes as he hoped everyone thought he looked cool.
Splat!
Both Naruto and Scorpion stared baffled as Wade's body splattered along the pavement, becoming less like a fully grown man and more like a bloody squashed tomato but thanks to his superior regeneration, the cancer infected man was once again back on his feet with both his katanas drawn and pointed at Scorpion. "You thought you were fighting Spider-Man but it was me, Dio! I mean, me, Deadpool!"
"Wade what are you doing here, man?" Naruto asked as he punched and kicked the remaining demon's of Martin Li's army and webbed them to the ground as he prepared to join his friend in battle.
"Besides being a last minute throw in cameo by the author? I'm here to help you stop that bomb! I can't let that thing go off and destroy this dimension. All my stuff is here!" With that apparently being Deadpool's battle cry, he charged at Scorpion before disappearing in a flash thanks to his special belt that looked sort of like his face. Deadpool re-appeared behind the shocked villain with both his katana's drawn over his shoulder in a deadly slash.
Clang!
Sparks flew from the blades as they scraped alongside Scorpion's mechanical tail. The scarred man had a snarl on his lips as he tried to snip Wade in half with his giant claw but the merc with the mouth was far too quick and clever with his teleportation belt.
"I got this bro! Go do your hero business."
"I owe you one, Wade!" Naruto called out as he disappeared from Scorpion's view, just leaving the furious insect themed man to battle with one of New York's most famous mercs.
"You're going to die, maldito mongol!" Scorpion spat as he attempted to impale the insane man on his poisonous stinger, growling and screaming every time he missed.
"Dónde estàn los bànos?!" Deadpool asked in poor Spanish as his katana slashed Scorpion across the chest, a thin red mark slowly trickled blood as the insect themed villain stumbled back in pain. Scorpion's greatest enemy was now out of his sight.
After a particularly fast swing, Spider-Man soared through the air like a speeding bullet towards the dimensional bomb. It was in view, plain as day. Naruto was so close…
Wham!
A black mass tackled Naruto out of mid air and onto the side of a building. Bricks crumbled and with the aid of gravity fell to the city block below. Naruto grimaced as Venom had him pinned against the side of a building, a couple stories above the ground. Venom snapped his teeth and snarled as the only thing stopping the alien parasite from chewing Spider-Man's face off was his feet squarely on Venom's spider symboled chest.
"We will enjoy this very much!" Venom promised as his maw filled with a row of knife-like teeth glimmered in the sunlight. The alien villain drew closer and closer until his unholy breath assaulted Naruto's senses. The masked whiskered blonde grimaced before slipping out of the alien parasite's hold and this act along with Venom losing his grip on Naruto caused the alien of the sinister six to face plant into the wall.
Venom shook the daze from his mind, gaining enough clarity to see the incoming bio-electricity fueled uppercut. The shockwave carrying a strong golden electric current shattered windows and sent Venom flying. The only reason the black alien monstrosity didn't fall to the street below was thanks to Venom forming a tentacle arm and latching to the side of the building just in time. Venom roared, spittle flying from his mouth as he clawed at the windows and walls, clawing up the building like a feral beast quickly approaching his prey.
The monstrous alien of black mass leapt at Naruto with the intent of ripping him apart. Venom snarled as he missed his greatest enemy and in a mad act, the symbiote infused man ripped a large piece of wall out of their temporary platform and hurled it at the stunned Spider-Man. It was no problem for Naruto to shatter the wall with a single punch but that left him vulnerable for Venom's sneak attack. The alien symbiote guided by Eddie Brock dug his massive black clawed hands into Naruto in a tight hold. Spider-Man yelled in agony while Venom roared in elation, assured he would finally be victorious.
"We told you, we would rip out your heart!" Naruto grit his teeth as Venom's nail's dug in deeper, Venom's arm started slithering and packed itself with mass, becoming bigger and denser while also reeling itself back for a chest caving punch. Naruto glared at both sadistic symbiote and host as his chest surged with golden energy, highlighting his bones and even his heart through his suit.
Naruto's bio-electricity built until it felt unstable, until it was coursing from outside his body, startling Venom. The giant symbiote tried to flee but it was far too late, Naruto released his bio-electricity in a sky rumbling venom blast. Golden electrical currents exploded out from Naruto's body, looking very similar to the very same webs Spider-man created to swing around the
city. Venom shrieked and released his hold on Naruto as he stumbled back injured. The alien parasite and host would have fallen if not for the black tentacles like threads sprouting from the bottom of his feet, keeping him securely connected to the side of the building.
Venom growled as he whipped his head in Naruto's direction with a loud roar. Yet the symbiote infused host found their milky white eyes widening dramatically as Naruto took that chance to web sling himself towards the stunned Venom. Fury and determination shone in his eyes like a burning star.
WHAM!
Spittle flew from Venom's fanged maw, his head rocking to the side as golden currents caused the symbiote to reel in pain but Naruto wasn't done. Once his feet touched the ground, he threw out another haymaker compacted with bio-electricity. Venom screamed as another punch surging with energy hit the exact same damaged area as Naruto's previous blow. Then there was another bone rattling blow followed by another.
The pure force and impact from Naruto's punches had forced Venom to let go of the side of the building. Sharply curved white eyes steadily focused in time for the black monstrous alien infected host to see Naruto's final blow. A bio-electricity enhanced kick barreled into Venom's unguarded chin like a lightning strike, sending the symbiote infused host into a spinning free fall.
Thwip!
A tick line of webbing zoomed past the still spinning Venom. Hitting the ground with a loud smack, the line became secure and tight. Naruto's arm bulged and shook as he took a step back to gain more momentum.
Thwip!
A second line of webbing followed its predecessor, passing Venom to impact the ground and becoming another stable line for Naruto to use. Spider-man yelled before releasing his ability to stick to walls, sling shooting himself at his falling enemy. Naruto yelled as the flat side of his suit-covered feet impacted harshly with Venom's wide back. The velocity of the villain's descent to the hard street down below, tripled in volume.
As Venom was starting to awaken from his bio electrical daze, the black monstrosity with Naruto firmly purchased on his back, smashed into the street with a decent rumble. Venom, unconscious in a creator of his own making, could do nothing as the symbiote retreated back into it's, leaving just the man, Eddie Brock to lay there defeated.
Naruto looked down at the broken man with a disappointed frown before webbing away towards Goblin and his bomb.
No more interruptions or distractions. Finally, he could put a stop to his universe ending plan. Naruto could see Reed was doing everything in his power to capture the insane man but Goblin was too quick, far too crafty. Just as it seemed Reed was about to ensnare Norman Osborn with his stretched arms, a surprise pumpkin bomb was thrown into his face. Reed's eyes widened as the flashing green lights on the sphere bomb stopped shining and the beeping went silent.
BOOOOOM!
"REED!" Naruto yelled as he caught his mentor before he could hit the ground. His suit was smoking and his face was slightly burnt from the explosion as was his hair but Naruto was he would live and heal.
"The itsy bitsy spider went up the waterspout…" Naruto grit his teeth as Norman's infuriating voice rang throughout Times Square. The street looked like a war zone with its broken streets and destroyed buildings. Norman advanced on his glider, his arm blade shooting out of his gauntlet with a 'Shink!', "And down came the Goblin to come and take him out! Ahahahaha!"
JUMP!
Naruto threw Reed over his shoulder as he back flipped over Norman's sneak attack. Naruto cursed as he looked for some cover and safe place for Reed to rest while he took care of Goblin and the massive dimensional bomb.
"Over here, Spider-Man!" A very family voice called out. The web slinger looked to his right, there was Doctor Octavious waving him over with one of his mechanical limbs.
"Doc!" Naruto called out happily as he swung towards his father's best friend. Naruto was careful as he touched down and gently placed Reed on the floor. Spider-Man gave his mentor a sad look before turning his attention to Doctor Octavious, "Look after him for me Doc. This won't take long."
Otto nodded, a look of determination on his face as one of his mechanical arms carefully wrapped around Reed Richards. As Otto watched his best friend's son walk away, the old scientist couldn't help but whisper out a hopeful "Good luck, dear boy."
Naruto didn't say anything nor did he look back. He just gave one of his ex-villain's a thumbs up before walking towards the cackling Green Goblin. The insanity in the man's eyes pulsing and yet, never have they been more honest. This was who Norman Osborn truly was. An evil insane monster.
"How many years, Spider-Man? How many years have we battled? How many times have I tried to kill you and you in turn try to stop me?" Goblin asked, as his glider kept him hovering in the air. The dimensional bomb gently humming in the background.
"…"
Norman gestures to the city as he said "For years, we've been stuck in this infinite routine but I plan to end it. I plan to sever the line and leave this dimension starting anew. I will be reborn and truly free of the shackles that is this universe!"
"This isn't what Harry would have wanted." Naruto's words brought halt to Norman's mad rambling. His eyes twitched as he thought of his dead son.
"No, it isn't what my son would have wanted," Green Goblin admitted as his face shifted to something sinister, "But it's what I want!"
Beep.
Goblin pressed a button on his gauntlet. The bomb was finally active and the countdown had begun. Naruto shot a line of webbing that connected with the underside of Goblin's glider. With a yell and a quick yank on his webs, Norman's glider was pulled from under his feet, sending the crazed man into a free fall. Goblin rolled as he landed on the ground before leaping onto his feet and charging at his greatest and most hated enemy.
Naruto dodged all of Goblin's reckless slashes with his arm blade. He blocked the man's arm mid swing, the green tinted blade inches from his unmasked eye but Naruto showed no fear as he twisted his body while also guiding Norman to stab his blade into the street. Spider-Man was fluid as he sweep kicked Goblin's arm, destroying his arm blade and making it useless.
"Gah!" Goblin yelled as he threw punch after punch but he couldn't land a hit no matter how much he tried. His insane eyes shone furiously as he realized Spider-Man was taking him seriously.
Spittle flew from Goblin's mouth from Naruto's jaw cracking right hook. Yet in his determination to kill his greatest nemesis, he took all the punishment Spider-Man could dish out. Norman, now bleeding from the mouth, gave Naruto a crooked mad grin as he laughed. He was swift as he activated all four of the sphere like devices, all similar in looks to his pumpkin bomb. Norman yelled as he hurled his devices at the approaching arachnid themed hero, watching with great glee as they spirit apart revealing flying spinning razors, all targeting Spider-Man.
"Ugh! I hate those things!" Naruto groaned as he did a spin flip, dodging two of Goblin's pumpkin blades while webbing another that was coming from behind. Swing his arm, Naruto made the webbed pumpkin blade collide with another before forcing himself to fall backwards, watching the spinning blades soar past his masked face.
Goblin pressed another button, gaining control of his still airborne glider. The bladed craft burst with speed as its sharp blades drew closer to Naruto's unguarded back. The two remaining pumpkin blades, rearranged their trajectory, cutting the wind as they once again flew towards the unmoving hero.
The spider themed hero was trapped on three fronts, Goblin's deadly arsenal was rapidly approaching but he showed no fear. He closed his eyes and listened to his instincts, letting his body move and react on its own. Naruto once again leapt over Norman's glider while simultaneously webbing the approaching pumpkin blades, swinging his body to gain momentum, Naruto let his webs go and sent the deadly blades at the back of the glider.
An explosion rocked the area as Goblin's glider scraped against the street floor, covered in flames but before Norman's personal aircraft was completely destroyed, the glider shot out a green three pointed trident into the villains awaiting hand.
Naruto wasn't impressed, he was just tired and ready to end the fight. Norman yelled as he charged, intending to impale Spider-Man on his goblin trident but his nemesis was far too agile, far too quick to land an actual attack with his weapon. In the end, Spider-Man showed how superior and stronger he was by ending the fight with a single uppercut surging with bio-electricity.
Goblin's mask flew from his face, his trident slipped from his finger as blood spewed from his mouth. Norman's eyes rolled back as he lost consciousness. He fell backwards, broken and defeated but his signature insane grin was still plastered on his lips. Naruto made sure the goblin menace was webbed tight before rushing towards Doctor Octavious.
The dimensional bomb had grown unstable, blue waves of energy hummed around itself before releasing small glowing blue shockwaves that shook all of New York.
"Doc, what do we do?!" Naruto asked as he joined his ex-villain behind a wall of debris. Wincing as another shockwave rumbled the city.
Doctor Octavious looked defeated. His head bowed as he quietly muttered, "I'm not sure. The energy levels have become unstable. The dimensional shockwaves will vaporize you before you can get close enough to do anything."
Naruto, unwilling to accept that answer, asked "Say hypothetically, I find a way to get past the shockwaves. What then?"
Otto sighed as his brilliant mind started to think. His eyes hidden behind his signature sunglasses as he pondered a salutation. "Perhaps if you use your bio-electricity, you could overload the system and do a controlled explosion."
"…" Naruto was silent, his single revealed sapphire coloured eye lost in thought.
"You understand what will happen if you do that don't you? You'll die." Otto confirmed with a frown. Watching his best friend's son lift his head, smiling sadly underneath his mask.
"But everyone else will be safe."
"Naruto…" Reed weakly called out to his pupil, pulling out a machine he invented to handle the intensity of the shockwaves. It was small and would fit over the spider symbol on Naruto's chest. "This will protect you enough to get close but the rest is up to you."
Naruto nodded, before rising and turning to face the universe ending bomb with a look of grim determination as he ran head first towards the danger. Another shockwave was let loose but just as the blue vaporizing wave touched Naruto, he slapped his chest, the spider themed hero was coated head to toe in a protective energy layer, strong enough to withstand the expelling energy.
Naruto used his webs to launch himself towards the bomb. Landing near what could be described as the battery of the bomb, Naruto placed both his palms flat on the device. Golden currents surged from his body into the bomb and then back into himself. Naruto yelled as he pushed against the overwhelming energy.
The swirling unstable energy shifted from a dark glowing blue to a pulsing gold.
