Prologue: The Two Time Travelers

For as long as she could remember, Emma Williams had been traveling the stars with a madman in a box. She had seen many planets, nearly lost her life more times than she could count. But she never stopped traveling the stars.

She could hardly remember childhood. Hardly remembered a time without the stars. The glimpses she did see were blurry, bright flashes of random light. However, she didn't dwell on the past. She was far too old for that.

Her madman went by a different name. Of course, it wasn't his actual name. His true name was far too precious for the world to know. He went by "The Doctor". That was all he was called by the others, however, sometimes, Emma called him by an old school nickname. Theta. It was rare that she used it, but if she did, he always snapped to attention.

The Doctor cared very deeply about things. However, eventually everything had to leave him. Except Emma. She was doomed to follow him across the stars, though, she didn't see it as a curse. He did. He always did.

Except, one day, he fell in love with her. The Doctor would never be able to tell you why, he just did. He just fell in love with her with no explanations. Never being able to understand why.

It happened around his ninth regeneration… oh yes, there is that bit that should be explained. The Doctor is not human. He is humanoid, but he is not human. He is an alien called a Time Lord. He is the last of his kind. He travels in a blue box called a Tardis. Or rather, T.A.R.D.I.S. It stands for: Time and Relative Dimension in Space.

He stole—borrowed—the Tardis when he was younger… Or rather older… or rather, it's hard to explain. Time Lords have twelve regenerations. Twelve chances for life. The Doctor stole the Tardis when he was considerably young, but looked old, during his first regeneration.

Anyway, the Doctor fell in love with Emma around his ninth regeneration. Of course, he didn't think it was love. He thought it was just close friendship. But his tenth regeneration could pin-point it around the ninth regeneration. However, he neglected to revel his feelings until he was dying and about to regeneration into his eleventh and final generation.

Now, how can the eleventh be the final regeneration? Well, his tenth self-regenerated into the same regeneration twice. One stayed with Emma, the other with Rose.

It would be too confusing to explain every companion the Doctor ever had. There were too many. Of course, we could name them… maybe that would be easier?

Susan, Ian, Barbara, Vicki, Steven, Katarina, Dodo, Ben, Polly, Jamie, Victoria, Zoe, Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, John, Liz, Mike, Jo, Sarah Jane Smith, Henry, Leela, K-9, Romana I, Romana II, Aldric, Nyssa, Tegan, Vislor, Kamelion, Peri, Melanie, and Ace, all travelled before the ninth regeneration.

Then came the time of no companions. A time when the Doctor refused to travel with others. Emma was the exception. Of course, that did not last long. A few years, perhaps. Then came Rose Tyler, Mickey Smith, Jack Harkness, Donna Noble, and Martha Jones. Five of the most brilliant companions they ever had… however, they couldn't really call Jack Harkness a companion, not really, but he had been Emma's first choice of companionship and was always allowed to return if he wished. But, the face of Boe had many duties to uphold.

The Face of Boe you ask? That's a long story. One that cannot be explained here and now. The story must continue.

After 10.2 left to be with Rose, Emma, who had loved the Doctor since the moment he took her to the stars, felt heartbroken until the Doctor that stayed confessed how he felt.

Then again, the heart break was only staved off until the Doctor regeneration into his twelfth—eleventh self…

This is utterly confusing. Sorry. Sometimes words don't jot down onto paper. Let's try again, shall we?

For as long as she could remember, Emma Williams had been traveling the stars with a madman in a box. And now he stood in front of her, a completely different person.

She held tightly onto the Tardis console as it whipped around; eyes locked on the Doctor. He didn't look right in the baggy pinstripe that hung off his frame. Instead of short brown hair, it now fell in his boyish eyes.

He spun around in a circle, getting used to himself.
"Legs," he murmured. "I've still got legs. Good. Arms, hands…" He stuck his hand in front of himself, wiggling his fingers. "Ooooo, fingers! Lots of fingers."

Reaching up, the doctor grabbed his ears.
"Ears? Yes. Eyes?" He touched his eyes, grinning. "Two!" His hand drifted down to the rest of his face. "Nose… oh, I've had worse. Chin—blimey!" He wasn't wrong in that assessment. He definitely had more of a chin than before.

The girl in front of his squinted as he yanked the hair that fell in his eyes. What was that about? She got her answer when he exclaimed in fright.
"Hair… I'm a girl!" A scoff left Emma's mouth, dragging his attention back to her.
"No, you're not," she corrected. He nodded quickly.
"No. No. I'm not a girl... and still not a ginger. There's something else, too. Right, Emma? Something important. I'm, I'm, I'm…"

With a bang, the Tardis flipped suddenly. Emma forgot how daft the Doctor was during the beginning of his regeneration cycles.
"You're crashing," she informed him.
"Ah!" he shouted gleefully as the Tardis banged into something. "Geronimo!"

Hi! I'm finally diving into the world of my favorite fandom! I'm excited! No regular updates because I've got work and other fanfictions to work on as well. But I will update as often as I can!
