Megan's POV
03/04/2011
"So, Megan. We have talked about a lot of things today, but we are yet to talk about the little homework we set on our last session" Doctor Mathis said. I was hoping for her not to bring that up, though I knew she wouldn't forget about her little task. I exhaled deeply and nodded. Not speaking straight away.
"Would you like to tell me your thoughts on the question I left you to reflect upon?" She asked me, patiently waiting for me to answer.
"I don't know" I simply said, looking at my hands in my lap. A loud silence fell between us. Dr. Mathis waiting for me to continue "I don't know how I feel, to be honest" I paused, looking for the right words to try to describe my train of thought "I feel welcomed and included in everything… by everyone, they all make no difference between me and the kid. I feel at home…Yet I can't fully feel like I belong" I said, a mix of defeat and a sort of strange emptiness were the only things I felt.
Dr. Mathis compassionately looked at me "Megan, is there anything holding you back from fully feeling like you belong with the Rizzoli-Isles?" she asked, I knew she was trying to direct the conversation to the fact that the adoption process was taking longer than usual. She had experience with people who have gone through the adoption process, so she somewhat knew how these things go.
"That's the thing. I don't know" I truthfully said "They have done everything to make sure I feel like they are home and they are my family" I tried to explain further, though the words weren't coming out of my mouth. I sighed "Ultimately, even if I get adopted, thing that might not even go through, I'm not theirs…really for that matter," I said saddened.
"Is there anything specific that makes you feel that way?" she asked and patiently waited for me to continue.
I looked away from the woman, directing my gaze towards the window "I guess I'm just waiting for the ball to drop" I said not taking my eyes for the drops hitting against the glass.
"Megan, is only normal for humans to think of the worst-case scenario, it protects us from the pain and disappointment when things don't go how we want them to go… It's perfectly understandable" She explained "I think it's time to think about talking with Jane and Maura" she said, and I cringed at the thought.
Dr. Mathis must have noticed my expression as she added "You don't have to decide anything today, give it a thought… And you can talk to them on your own or if you prefer, we can have a session with them as well. Whatever makes you feel more comfortable" She continued "Communication is the way we have to understand each other and if you make them aware of any struggles, problems or what you are feeling, they can help you. I'm sure they will help you" She explained further. We looked at the clock and noticed the session was actually already finished and the next patient must be waiting.
I nodded and stood up saying my goodbyes. Jane was outside, sitting on one of the chairs checking her phone "Let's go, sweetheart" she said, standing up and putting her arm around the middle of my back, guiding me to the car. She knew that after the session my will to talk was pretty much non-existent. "Hard session?" she asked as she turned the engine of the car on.
I nodded "Long" I simply replied. In usual fashion, I was tired of talking and stirring a turmoil of feelings in my head with any of the emotional talk that always came up after a session. I know they want to help and understand what's going on with me. Though at times it was a little smothering and quite annoying for them to always wanting to talk about feelings and the past and any other heartfelt issue going on.
The drive elapsed in complete silence, only filled by the soft sounds coming from the radio. Upon our arrival home, I decided to go to my room and get started with homework before dinner, as well, to not give time to start any kind of talk about anything. Time flew by and by the time dinner was done and everything was cleared in the kitchen, bedtime rapidly approached. I was already in bed, checking social media on the laptop resting on my lap when I heard a soft knock on my door. I was almost certain it was either Jane or Maura, in their usual fashion to have a little before bed talk. "Come in" I exclaimed.
To my surprise, it was Lucas who came into the room. I took the laptop off my lap and put it on the other side of the bed "Hey, Luc. What's up?" I asked the kid.
"Do you know what a MILF is?" he directly asked, taking me totally off guard.
My eyes bulged out of their orbit, and I couldn't help but laugh "What? Where'd you hear that?" I asked, still shocked at the random question.
I then realised that his face showed more concern than mere curiosity for a term he heard somewhere "Who told you that?" I then asked, a little more serious this time.
He was shying away from responding for some reason "One of the kids in my class said that mom was a MILF. I don't think is a good thing" He said, almost whispering the words.
I was perplexed that 8-year-olds were saying that, and surely the kid didn't come up with that on their own "No it's not. Who was that?" I asked, crossing my arms in front of my chest, fully serious now.
"It was Jake. He said his brother told him mom was a MILF" he then explained. It took me a little to figure, but I know in my class there is a guy who has a brother the same age as Lucas.
"Look, that is not a nice thing to say," I said, letting my arms relax on my sides "It means that someone that is a mother is…" I trailed off, not knowing what the right word would be to describe a MILF in a less objectifying way "… is good looking, but not in a nice way. So don't say it" I was adamant.
He nodded "Should I tell Mom and Ma?" He asked unsure of what to do next.
I gave it a thought for a second, knowing that Jane would be fuming and might as well chop the kid's head off, and Maura would go into Google mode and try to scientifically explain the implications of objectification and how bad it is for children to grow up with wrongful ideas about the sexuality and the embracement of awry archetypes, or some sort of TedTalk about something on those lines. "Let's keep it between us for now. I'll take care of it" I said.
He again nodded and said his goodnight, leaving the room. I went back to bed and was kind of mad and annoyed at the same time as if the person I thought was the bother of the kid, I knew he was an actual douchebag. I ended up falling asleep.
General POV
03/07/2011
The whole MILF question incident left Megan thinking the whole weekend about who might have told that to his little brother, who ended up telling that to Lucas. After some research, she figured out who was the older brother of the kid, and as she thought at first, it was the guy she initially pictured.
"Are you gonna tell him?" Christina asked Megan, knowing fully herself that the guy was an idiot with some misogynistic tendencies. But she also knew her friend, and she was aware that Megan was not going to let anyone say anything about her family.
Megan nodded and approached the guy "Hey, Chris" Megan approached the guy, while leaving a class, making their way to the lockers.
"sup" he simply said, not looking at the girl, but chuckling at her with a couple of his friends who were looking for a couple of things in their lockers.
She rolled her eyes at them "Look, I'll be brief. Stop telling your brother that my mom is a MILF" she simply stated sternly.
He laughed "Not like I'm laying" He mockingly.
Megan's anger was on the rising "Dude, I don't care. Just stop telling your little brother those things. He's telling that to mine" She exclaimed adamantly.
Again, he kept on taking anything of what she was saying seriously "Why do you care? They are not even your moms" He said closing his locker strongly and a little louder so most of the people in the hallway could hear.
Megan's fists were balled up and her knuckles were white because of the strength with which she was pressing her fist "If you want to be an idiot, go ahead. But don't involve the kids ok" she said, visibly mad about it.
"Come on, don't be such a prude, Ainsworth. She's a MILF. Both are" He said, coming closer to the girl, towering a good 10 inches above her.
The girl buffed and shook her head "Just don't be a douche and stop telling a kid those things" she simply said and started to walk away from the guy.
"Or what?" He defiantly said, "You gonna tell the dyke and get me arrested?" He mocked "What a waste of a MILF!" He practically shouted, making the girl stop dead in her tracks, though she didn't turn around, her fist being pressed a little more every second. "What they need is a good Dick to stop being dykes!" he screamed; the hallway fell silent in expectance of what will happen. Now, Megan turned around and faced the guy who was a few feet away from her "What? The orphan is mad?" He kept on mocking her "Alright, I'm done with this shit. Go and tell those dykes, my dick is waiting to let them know what they're missing" He laughed and was about to walk away when Megan took 2 steps and with a swift move, she connected her right fist with his jaw, in a strong right hook, making the guy loose balance and fell on his side. The whole hallway gasped and silence fell upon them.
"Keep my moms' out of your fucking mouth," she said in a husky and deep voice, walking away. The altercation was seen by one of the monitors who immediately reported the situation.
"Mr. Morrison go to the infirmary, immediately" said the monitor, while Chri's friend helped him stand up and gave him a cloth as his nose was dripping small droplets of blood. "And miss Ainsworth, go the principal office, now. We will meet you there" He exclaimed.
The girl knew the consequences, but the anger she felt was stronger than her sense of responsibility for her actions. "I just hope they call Maura" Megan said, passing by her friends, and walking towards the principal's office "Jane is gonna be fuming," She said worried, though the girl didn't regret her actions.
"I'll send you the video" Christina only managed to say before Megan was escorted to the principal's office.
"Dr Isles" Maura answered the phone, without looking at the device as she was engrossed in her lab report.
"Excuse me, I am sure there is a reasonable explanation" she said perplexingly "I will be there as soon as possible" she said, hanging up the phone and gathering her things. In a matter of minutes, she was at the school.
In a hurry she walked through the hallways and was escorted to the principal office "Please, take a seat, Mrs. Isles" He said inviting the woman to sit next to Megan. The scene before her eyes was surreal. There was the girl who on 99% of occasions was well behaved and wiser beyond her years, a young man with a cloth, covering a bloody nose and a red jawline, beside him, a very angry man, most likely his father, The principal and vice-principal of the school. She didn't understand what was going on, let alone she couldn't even begin to fantasize how was Megan capable of hitting someone. Though she didn't condone violence under any circumstances, in Maura's mind there was surely an explanation for this situation.
"Ok, so I think is pretty clear why we are here" The Principal seriously said "I like to understand what you were shouting about in the hallway and why, you miss. Ainsworth hit Mr. Morrison.
"Cuz she's fucking crazy" Chris mouthed, though no one else heard him, he then crossed his arms and sank further on the chair, making evident his annoyance at the situation.
"Would you lie to start Mr. Morrison, what happened?" Principal Stevens chimed.
"I don't know, she came to me to tell me something about me brother and then she just went crazy and hit me in the face cuz she can't take a joke" He said, keeping the cloth close to his nose. Megan could only huff, crossing her arms. Maura sensed the girl was getting increasingly mad, so she placed her hand on her tight to try to ground the livid teen.
The principal wasn't happy at his choice of words "Mr. Morrison, you should watch your language, one more offence and the consequences will be worst" he warned the teenager.3
"I'm gonna have consequences? I got hit in the face, by her!" He raised his voice.
"Mr. Morrison if you cannot control your temper, you can wait outside" He sternly said. The man then turned his face to the girl on the other side of the office.
His father grabbed his upper "Shut up, you've done enough talking" he said with a low growl.
"Mrs. Ainsworth, and what did you go up to him and why did you punch a fellow student in the face?" He asked, intertwining his fingers and waiting for the response of the girl.
Megan sighed and gather the most strength she could to say the things he said with Maura beside her "I went to talk to him because Lucas told me his little brother said that… his moms were MILF" Megan said, beginning to look bright red from the embarrassment of saying those things "Lucas said that Jake, his little brother…" Megan said pointing at Chris "…Said that he heard his brother saying that his mom's were MILF" she continued.
Disappointment showed in the Principal's face "Ok, that is unfortunate but what does that have to do with the events that occurred today?" Principal Stevens asked, not following the story of the girl.
Megan straightened her back on the chair "I went up to him to ask him to stop teaching his little brother those words as he was making fun of our family, simply that" Megan said.
"Ok, and how did that request, ended up in you hitting Mr. Morrison" he asked, now crossing his arms in from of his chest and reclining in the chair.
Megan sighed and looked for her phone in her pocket "Watch it for yourselves" She said, handing the phone to the men behind the desk. The principal straightened up again and holding the phone he started to watch the video. Megan turned her head around to face Chris, whose face showed anger. Obviously, he knew right then and there, he had dug his own grave. She kept a straight face; she knew the words and what they meant and how hurtful they were. All the adults in the room were speechless hearing the words and Megan didn't really know what to do in the short minute the video played. She was looking at her lap, and noticing Maura's hand, she decided to take it and give it a light squeeze. She didn't like the fact that Maura had to hear that, however, that was proof that he had earned the punch.
The video finished playing and silence played a heavy part in the room the second the sound from the phone subsided. Chris' father was red from embarrassment and the man didn't know where to hide, his son was slouching in his chair more every second. Maura was red as well, but in anger, though in her usual fashion, she kept her composure, waiting for Principal Stevens to preside the talk.
"I firstly have to extend my deepest apologies to you Mrs. Isles and your family. This is not behaviour we tolerate in this institution" He said trying to express sin most sincere apologies, but he knew it was not enough. "In light of the images we have seen, I must also apologise to you, miss. Ainsworth" He said, but he then sighed deeply and continued "However, that, evidently, there has been an incitement from the part of Mr. Marrison, does not excuse violence of any kind" he asserted "And because of that, you are suspended for the rest of the week" He said.
Megan was about to pretest when Maura placed her hand on her arm and rubbed it back and forth. Maura was equally furious at the situation and surprised more than any other thing at Megan's lack of control in this situation, she was generally very passive when finding herself in confrontations. But she was somewhat proud of the girl and the extent she would go to defend her loved ones. As well, Maura was happy Jane was in the middle of an investigation and the school had called her.
"This incident will remain in your record, miss, Ainsworth. However, I understand the situation. You are a great student and if you remain without any conflict and your GPA remains above a 3.33, this record will be overwritten at the end of the academic year" He said, "I'm hoping this will set a precedent for the future, and if you find yourself in a situation like this, find someone from the teaching staff to solve this" He finished. The principal finished his explanation. Megan was dismissed from the meeting and both she and Maura left the office, walking towards the car.
"Megan, I'm not proud of your reaction today" Maura began as soon as both were in the car, the girl didn't react, she kept on looking straight ahead fixating her gaze on the dashboard "But I am sorry you had to hear those things," Maura said, putting the key in the switch and turning the engine on
"I'm sorry you had to hear them" Megan practically whispered, turning her face to the window. After that, silence filled the ride home.
Maura's POV
"He said what?" Jane asked in disbelief as Maura filled her in part of the events of the day. She had yet to see the video, and I was sure she would be livid once she saw it.
I nodded, understanding fully well the anger Jane was feeling. Through, having the time to think about the whole ordeal, it now didn't anger me as much as it did before, the situation made me feel disappointed. I was aware that the society we live in is divided, some people still do not accept our family, but it was evident that we had still a long way to go as a society. I turned around to face Jane "Indeed, there is nothing nice to hear, though we need to address that Megan should have not punched the guy in the face" I then said.
Jane was crossed arm, she was having the same initial reaction I had, decisiveness and rage. She was fully right to be as angry as one can be, but as parents, we had to keep our cool and affront the situations logically "I know what he said was deeply offensive, actually borderline sickening. But Jane, we have to let Megan know that there is no way to resolve problems" I explained.
"Maura, I understand Meg was wrong for punching that kid, but they called us MILFs and insulted us" Jane reasoned.
"And you haven't seen the video" I simply said, looking for Megan's phone in my handbag "Brace yourself, my love" I warned her, playing the video and going into the bathroom.
The video played and Jane remained speechless "That little shit!" she exclaimed when the video finished "He fucking seriously said that?" Jane said rage showing in her voice. I nodded while I dried my hands.
Jane sighed forcefully and pinched the bridge of her nose, trying to call herself down "Why did Megan go to talk to him?" Jane asked when she was able to speak. In the video, it was only visible when he started to shout profanities.
"Well, apparently the kid's little bother is in the same class as Lucas, and he told him that his mothers were MILF" I explained.
Jane's arms fell onto her sides and her face showed confusion "Why didn't he tell us?" She questioned raising an eyebrow.
"He asked Megan what that word meant, and she said to leave it between them, and she would take care of it" I said.
"What on earth went through her head to keep us in the dark about this" Jane said frustrated, sitting on the bed and ruffling her untamed curls "She knows better than this" she said, raising her gaze to face me.
"She does know better" I said, sitting next to her "But she apologized to me" I said, being intentionally brief.
Jane looked quizzically "About keeping us in the dark about all this?" Jane asked.
I shook my head "Because I heard what he said about us" is simply expressed.
She sighed "She didn't want us to hear those things" Jane realised, her tensed-up body relaxed, she now understood the full picture of the situation. It was not as simple as an altercation in school. But it was the fact that people using our model of living as an insult was affecting more than just being mean to us, except that it affected the ones closer to us, and in this particular, Lucas and Lily were a little too young to fully comprehend the extent of hurtful words. But Megan understood the depth of them, and she knew the damage they could make.
"In fact," I replied, softly nodding my head.
"Yeah, but that doesn't mean she had to keep it from us. If she would have come to us, we could have prevented this" Jane then said.
"Yes, you are right. She should have told us" I agreed "Thankfully, the principal only gave her a suspension for the rest of the week, and any record will be overwritten at the end of the year from her file if she keeps herself out of any problem and keeps her GDP over 3.33" I informed her.
Jane softly chuckled "Is it terrible of me that I am kinda proud of her?" she said taking my hand.
I shook my head "No, I feel the same. I do not consent to any form of violence. However, she was defending us and our family. And I can only love for that" I declared.
"I love her too…And did you notice she called us her moms" Jane stated turning to face me.
I nodded "I did," I said "And I thought I would never hear her call us that" I confessed. "Me neither, though I would have loved for our "mom moment" would have been under better circumstances" I chuckled.
Jane laughed as well "I agree. but it makes me hopeful that one day she would actually call us Mom and Ma" Jane said hopeful, with a little spark in her eyes.
"I'm not sure she will ever say it to us, but I'm sure I would love to," I said.
"That makes two of us...But we still have to find some consequences for her. She can't keep stuff like this from us" Jane asserted.
"I completely agree with you, my love" I said, standing up from the bed and holding her hand, softly pushing her to follow me "We should, as you would say, go and nip in the but" I smiled at Jane.
She laughed "You mean, nip it in the bud?" She smiled, knowing what I meant. "Yes, we should," She said tugging along.
I looked at her and smiled "And for the record, no dick will ever come even closer to what you make me feel" I said, giving a passionate kiss to the lips of the sexy brunette in front of me.
Jane hummed "Oh, nothing in this world feels like when you touch me" she said, again connecting our lips together in a dance of tongues "We should go before this gets too much" Jane laughed.
"Yes, but this isn't over, detective" I mischievously said.
"Oh!, of course, it isn't over, doctor," She said, grabbing my hand and guiding us to Megan's room.
