Owl House Season 1 Episode 19 – Last Devil of the Boiling Isles
Hey guys! Sorry for the long wait! New artwork is ready and a new OC will be introduced for this story! The Last Devil of the Boiling Isles and Head of the Weaponry Coven! Enjoy!
It's morning time and at the Owl House, Luke has regained consciousness after being defeated by the Golden Guard in their duel. Suffice to say, Luke has never felt more humiliated. This was his first loss since coming to the Boiling Isles and he was beaten badly. Luke can be heard crying out in pain right now.
He's sat on the couch with Eda, his mentor wrapping new bandages around his head. King was stood on the table holding a first aid it with Hooty watching over them as Luke held his head in pain (not wearing his hoodie or goggles). He's still covered in bandages around his body and face.
Luke: OW! It hurts! Aaah!
Eda: Just hold still you big baby!
Luke holds his head in serious pain, opening his eyes in rage.
Luke: That's it…I'm gonna go after that bastard and give him some payback for this!
Eda stops to glare at Luke. Ever since he regained consciousness, he's been going on about getting back at the Golden Guard and it's annoying her. As much as she likes Luke's enthusiasm, now's not the time for revenge.
Eda: Hey, quit acting like such a little brat.
Luke: WHAT WAS THAT!? OW!
Luke erratic movement causes his head pain again and he clutches it.
Eda: Stop moving! Every time you move you make it worse! She continues wrapping the bandages. Look, kid, I know you're angry. I'm angry too at what that guy did but you can't go recklessly charging off just to fix your wounded pride over one loss.
Luke: I didn't just lose, Eda. I got humiliated and tossed aside like a ragdoll!
King: Come on, don't say that, Luke. You did great out.
Hooty: Yeah, you've got nothing to be ashamed of, Luke.
Eda: Exactly. Eda finishes wrapping the bandages and places a hand on Luke's shoulder. You fought a high-level coven scout and put a really good fight against. Heck, you even chipped off a piece of his mask which I enjoyed by the way. She snorts a little. You should be proud.
Luke: Try telling that to everyone in Bonesborough. Luke gets out his scroll and opens Penstagram. Look!
Eda, King and Hooty read the posts. They're all about Luke losing to the Golden Guard and with each title read, Luke scrolls down post by post.
Eda: "Round-eared loser gets his butt-kicked by emperor's right-hand man."
King: "Ultimate Witch Warrior. Not!"
Hooty: "Wannabe human "witch" gets humiliated by REAL witch."
Eda: "Golden Guard reigns supreme!"
The gang can't help but cringe at these rude posts.
Hooty: Wow. That's cold. Really cold.
King: Yeesh. Tough crowd.
Luke looks down, disheartened and the three give him looks of sympathy. Eda places a hand on his shoulder, smiling.
Eda: Hey, don't let what these dorks say get to you. Like we just said, you did great.
Hooty: Yeah. They're just jealous cause they never got to fight Belos' right-hand.
King: And even if they did, it's not like they could've done any better.
Luke: Luke looks away, crossing his arms. I guess.
Eda: Hey, I have an idea. Owlbert!
They all look to the side, the portal door open for Owlbert to come through with a large sack of human goods which he sets down.
Eda: Why don't you come to the stands with me? I could use some help selling some human treasures. It'll help you take your mind off things.
King: Yeah! We can all go together!
Luke looks down, thinking for a bit before sighing despondently.
Luke: Well, it's not like I have anything better to do so I might as well.
Eda: Eda is silent for a moment. That's the spirit.
At the market, Eda is selling Human Realm goods, King holds up a feather duster and Eda presents a tennis racket. Luke is sat down in front of the stand, his head and arms down on it in depression. He's wearing his hoodie now, but still covered in bandages.
Eda: Come one, come all for some new relics from the Human Realm that you'll be dying to try out!
King: I demand you take this amazing device. The, uh…uh…
Luke: King looks to Luke for help. Feather duster.
King: Feather duster! A tool for killing dusts and torturing your enemies with laughter!
Eda: Forget that! Come by this deadly human weapon, a tennis racket! She gets out a pen. Or if you want, I can draw some tattoos on you with this permanent marker I got from the Human Realm.
One witch walks past and notices Luke looking down, immediately recognising him from the Covention and taking a chance to mock him.
Demon: Hey, I know you! You're that human kid who got beaten up by the Golden Guard yesterday! Hey, everyone! It's the human joke of a witch!
The demon laughs and he's joined by almost every other demon, all laughing and pointing at Luke who says nothing, not caring about the insults and not bothered to retort with his own insults. But Eda and King sure weren't going to take it, as they glare at the crowd.
King: Luke, are you gonna take that!? Insult him back like you'd always do! Humiliate him!
Luke: Hmph!
Seeing Luke is not willing to say a thing, Eda steps in, drawing a spell circle that causes the demon's cloak to wrap around, muffling him and making him hard to breath. He's then blasted by a beam of gold energy that sends him crashing through the concrete walls of a store where he hits a table and lays in its remains, unconsciousness. The spectators watched this in shock and then look to Eda in fear, blowing smoke off her finger, one hand on her hip.
Eda: Does anyone else wish to mock my student/kid?
Not wanting to get in a world of pain from Eda the Owl Lady, all the demons either walk away and get back to their business, pretending they never saw Luke.
Eda: That's what I thought. She places a hand on Luke. You okay, kid?
Luke: Peachy.
Eda and King exchange worried glances. Usually, Luke would've easily handled someone throwing insults at him, but today he's just too bummed out. Fortunately, that's about to change.
Amity: Luke!
Luke: Huh?
Luke lifts his head up to see Amity, Willow and Gus running towards him, Edric and Emira walking behind them. Seeing his friends was enough to make him stand up and smile.
Luke: Hey, guys!
Amity tackles Luke, embracing him for a tight hug.
Amity: You're okay!
Luke feels the pain in his ribs flare up.
Luke: Ow! Amity pulls back. The ribs!
Amity: Sorry! She smiles again, gently placing her arms around him. I'm just so happy you're alright.
Luke: Luke smiles. Of course, I'm okay, Ams.
Willow & Gus: Luke!
Willow and Gus were next to run up, sharing a group hug with Luke and Amity. After some seconds they all separate.
Willow: We're so happy to see you! We've been so worried!
Gus: Are you doing okay?
Luke: Don't worry amigos, I'm fine. A little banged up but I'll live.
The twins were next to walk up.
Edric & Emira: Hey, Luke!
Luke: Hey, Ed. Hey, Em.
Edric: What are you doing out here?
Luke: I'm just helping Eda sell some junk from my world.
Eda: We figured it'd be a good distraction for him after…well…you know…
Eda's face drops and so does Luke and everyone elses, including the twins who know what happened.
Emira: We weren't at the Covention but we watched your duel with the Golden Guard on Pensta. We're sorry, Luke.
Edric: Yeah. That must've been rough buddy. How are you holding up? You doing, okay?
Luke: By "okay", do you mean if I'm fine physically or if I'm upset from getting my butt kicked by the Golden Guard. Everyone exchanges worried looks from how he said that. Luke shoves his hands in his pockets. If it's the second part, then I feel like crap.
Amity: Luke, don't say that. We watched the duel, remember? You were amazing.
Willow: Yeah. You fought Belos' right-hand.
Gus: And survived! You even got a few good hits on him!
Luke: So, what? I still lost…and right in front of everyone in town. I can take losing a fight, but I've never been beaten so badly before. No one's gonna take me seriously now after losing like that.
His friends get closer to him, Edric placing a hand on his shoulder and Amity taking hold of his hand.
Emira: Come on, don't be so bummed. You put up a good fight, Luke. You should be proud.
Edric: Yeah, don't listen to what these jerks are saying about you. They're just jealous you were chosen face someone from the emperor's coven.
King: That's what we keep saying.
Amity: Luke, it's okay. You couldn't have realized the Golden Guard was that strong. And the way you fought him was amazing.
Willow: Yeah. None of us could've done any better. If it were us, the Golden Guard could've beaten us easily. You just weren't prepared to face someone like that.
Gus: Plus, that was just an exhibition match. It doesn't count.
Boscha: Wow, what a lame excuse.
Everyone looks to the front and to their dismay, Boscha is stood in front, her arms crossed. Like Luke, her face is covered in band aids and a bandage is wrapped around her forehead, most likely from losing to Luke in her duel with him. Regardless, she grins in contempt.
Luke: Oh. It's you.
Eda: You here to buy something? If not, then buzz off, punk.
Luke: Luke steps up this time. I've got this one, teach. He glares at Boscha, crossing his arms. What do you want three eyes?
Boscha: Oh, nothing. Just here to check how my "favourite" archenemy is doing after being humiliated in battle yesterday. Luke widens his eyes a little and Boscha chuckles. Yeah. I was there at the Covention and I had good laugh when I watched the Golden Guard wipe the floor with you. Here are my favourite parts.
Boscha gets out her scroll and presents her account, showing a video of Luke being beaten by the Golden Guard, mainly the parts where:
- The Golden Guard stabs Luke in the shoulder and lifts him by it, the human boy releasing a scream of agony.
- And the part where the Golden Guard defeats Luke with his final attack. Luke cries out in pain as blood spills from his side and he slowly drops on his back, defeated.
Boscha bursts out into hysterical laughter, covering her third eye and close to crying.
Boscha: Ohmygosh! This was so hilarious! I kept rewinding it over and over and I was still laughing!
Amity: That's not funny Boscha!
Willow: Yeah! Luke could've died!
Boscha: So? Sounds like a silver lining to me.
Boscha laughs louder, causing the gang to growl, infuriated. Gus was about to have a go at her, but Luke stops him, barely managing to keep his cool.
Luke: You're acting like I should care.
Boscha: Uh…yeah. You should. You were beaten, tossed around and humiliated! And I was there to watch it! Best day of my life!
Luke: Yeah, I lost. But at least to someone worth fighting. Better than losing to a piece of crap like yourself which I doubt will ever happen considering I've beaten you…twice.
Edric and Emira snickers and Boscha goes red, annoyed to see Luke still being able to insult her. Nonetheless she presses on, giving a cocky look.
Boscha: Talk all you want human! It doesn't matter who you lost to. Fact is you lost in front of the entire town, and it was hilarious! I've wanted nothing more than to see you get humiliated and my wish came true. At Hexside you're a star but compared to a coven scout like that Golden Guard you're a total joke! Witch-Warrior my foot! You come off as some kind of unstoppable tough guy so much that you never imagined anyone could ever take you down. Luke widens his eyes upon remembering his last duel with Boscha in which he said something similar to her and now he's using it against her. But you lost to a fighter whose WAY superior to you, especially at sword fighting and he made it look easy. And you call me pathetic.
Boscha laughs again, hysterically and although Luke was refraining from showing it, he was about to lose his temper from hearing Boscha undermine him as a fighter and a witch. Boscha is too arrogant to realize she's too weak to do anything when Luke roasts her but when it's the other way around, it's a different story.
Everyone looks to Luke in concerns as he seemingly sighs in defeat. But in an instant, Boscha's laughter turns into shrieks of pain when Luke grabs her bun and violently slams her face 3 times against their booth much to his friends' shock, even Eda cringes a little at the sight. Amity is forced to hold Luke back by his arms when he's about to do it again.
Amity: Luke, stop!
Deciding to heed Amity's plea, Luke shoves Boscha off and she lands on her back, crying out in agony as she held her bleeding nose.
Luke: See that? That's pathetic. Boscha growls in hatred as she venomously glares at Luke. Talk to me again and I'll break more than your nose next time.
Eda: Boscha looks to Eda. Hey, don't look at me. You were asking for it the moment you decided to pick a fight with my student.
Luke: You know what, I don't have time for this. I'm bailing.
Shoving his hands in his pockets again, Luke walks over. Amity reaches out.
Amity: Luke, wait!
Willow: Willow grabs her shoulder. Maybe we should let Luke have some time alone.
King: I'll go after him!
King runs off, following his best friend as the gang look back to Boscha still covering her bleeding nose.
Willow: Boscha, you really need a hobby.
Emira: Yeah, you'd think after getting owned by Luke so many times, you'd have learned by now not to mess with him, B.
Edric: He kicked your butt when he was in a good mood, now you want to mess with him when he's ticked off?
Eda: Now if you're done, go get your nose patched up and bother someone else three-eyes.
Boscha just continues growling and grumbling. She stumbles to her feet and walks off, frustrated that even after his first loss she ended up getting owned once again. The gang watch her walk off then look into the direction Luke went in, worried for him. Boscha getting to him like that is a bad sign of how down he's feeling.
Amity: Poor Luke. He feels terrible.
Edric: Can't say I blame him. It's the first duel he's lost.
Emira: And probably the first time he's ever lost a fight. He probably never lost in the Human Realm either.
Eda: Yeah. The feeling of losing your first fight is something that can stick with you for a while.
Amity: Eda, is Luke going to be okay? I'm really worried about him.
Willow: We all are.
Eda lifts Amity's chin up with a kind smile.
Eda: Hey, don't worry about Luke. The kid's tough. He'll be fine. He just needs time to get his head cleared up. For now, I think it's best we leave him to King.
Amity exchanges worried looks with Willow and Gus before looking in the direction Luke walked off in concern.
Meanwhile, Luke was sat in front on the beach in front of the oceans, throwing rocks into the water, some of them skipping across the ocean with a sullen expression. This is the first time Boscha got to him like that, and he can't stop thinking about the Golden Guard and his loss to him.
(Flashback)
He thinks about his first exchange with the Golden Guard.
Luke: Why did you pick me as your opponent?
Golden Guard: To see if you're worthy to be called a witch-warrior.
Luke being trounced by his opponent.
The Golden Guard flash-steps, slamming Yamato into its scabbard so hard it slams into Luke's chest, causing him to gasp for air before he's sent screaming and sliding across the ground much to the horror of his friends while the rest of the crowd cheer.
The Golden Guard's words as Luke powered up, preparing to strike him down.
Golden Guard: I expected more from you, but you're unskilled.
Luke grits his teeth at that, his hair turning blue as if in response.
Golden Guard: Untrained.
Luke gets into a stance with Rebellion, surging with electricity.
Golden Guard: Undisciplined.
Luke lifts his sword up, becoming engulfed in a blazing blue aura.
Golden Guard: And unworthy!
Luke lifted up into the air, impaled in the shoulder by Yamato as the Golden Guard mocks him.
Golden Guard: And you call yourself a witch-warrior. What a laugh.
Luke laid on the ground, defeated as the Golden Guard mocks him.
Golden Guard: It takes more than bravery to become a true witch. You need wits and strength. And you have neither.
(End of Flashback)
Luke's loss and the Golden Guard's words have a struck a deep chord in the normally nonchalant witch-warrior as he gives a sigh.
Luke: Guess, I'm not so unstoppable after all.
King: Room for one more?
Luke sees King sat next to him, staring into the ocean with him.
Luke: Sure, why not?
King: Hey, just so you know, this king of demons here still sees you as king of the battlefield…and Grom.
Luke: Luke smiles a little. Thanks, little bro.
King: Don't let what Boscha said get to you Luke. It's not like she could've done any better than you did against the Golden Guard.
Luke: Boscha's just a piece of crap. I don't care what she said.
King: Then…is it because of those things the Golden Guard said to you. Luke looks down, saying nothing. Luke, come on. Who cares what that guy thinks? He's just some blowhard in a fancy outfit who doesn't know what he's talking. You're totally a witch-warrior!
Luke: Luke rubs King's head. As much as I appreciate the sentiment little guy, that's not what's bothering me either.
King: Weh.
Luke stood, staring out into the ocean in determination.
Luke: The Golden Guard…I just want one more shot at him.
And with that, Luke rips off his head bandages, throwing them off and letting them fly out across the ocean, wanting nothing more than to settle his score with the Golden Guard.
Back at the Owl House, after bidding Luke's friends farewell and putting away some items she didn't sell, Eda is in her room where she opens a chest. She takes out what appears to be a black vest with blue linings and black trousers neatly folded together. She gently rubs the outfit, smiling as she stares at the clothing. She frowns as she thinks about Luke
(Flashback)
Eda's mind flashes back to Grom Night when Luke unleashed his powers for the very first time, surging with energy as the Rebellion glows wildly.
(End of Flashback)
That shiny moment was something Eda can't stop thinking about.
Eda: Luke…do you have any idea who you really are?
(Flashback)
Eda's thoughts also dwell on the Golden Guard, especially when he blocks Luke's strongest attack, unleashing his own power, surging with energy as the Yamato glows wildly.
(End of Flashback)
She could understand why Luke was able to do it…but the Golden Guard is another story entirely.
Eda: The Golden Guard…just who is he?
Eda cringes when she hears the annoying voice of Hooty.
Hooty: OH EDAAAAA!
Eda walks into her living room with a groan.
Eda: Ugh! What is it, Hooty?! I was trying to enjoy some reminiscing.
Hooty: I just thought I'd let you know we have a visitor!
Hooty brings in his body, then uncurls it to release a dishevelled Lilith who gasps wildly for air. She looks to the Owl Demon in rage.
Lilith: Must…you keep doing that!?
The sisters then face each other.
Eda: Lilith!
Lilith: Edalyn!
Hooty: Hooty!
Eda: Beat it, Hooty!
Hooty: Okay!
Hooty goes back to the door as Eda and Lilith stood face to face once more.
Eda: Let me guess what you're here to do. You're here to arrest me for not joining a coven, pickpocketing, stealing, blah, blah, blah-
Eda is cut off when Lilith bashes her on the head with her staff.
Eda: Ow!
Lilith: Oh, stuff it, Edalyn. She dismisses her staff. For once I'm not here to arrest you.
Eda: Then what do you want dear sister?
Lilith: Lilith brought up a scroll. I'm merely here to deliver a message to you. It's for your human.
Eda: For Luke? What's this about?
Lilith: Lilith tosses the scroll and Eda catches. Read it. Tell your human to get ready for battle again. He's scheduled for another witch's duel, so I advise you to make it on time.
Eda: Lilith proceeds to walk away. What!? In case you don't remember, my student/child lost a duel yesterday. He's not in any mood for another fight! So, whoever sent this dumb scroll can shove it up their butt!
Lilith: I'm afraid that's not an option. After watching the human's battle with the Golden Guard yesterday, HE'S eager to test him out himself.
Eda: And who's HE?
Lilith turns around, giving a stoic look.
Lilith: Qrow.
Eda widens her eyes in shock at that, both the name and the identity of Luke's new challenger.
Lilith: Your human has no choice but to duel, injured or not. I've delivered the message, so I have no further business here.
Eda: That's it. You're not gonna try to harass me into joining the emperor's coven like you usually do. What's your game Lily?
Lilith: No game. I'll simply catch you on another day. That's all.
And with that, Lilith left, leaving Eda to look at the scroll.
After leaving the Owl House, Lilith is walking through the forest but stops when she hears rustling, quickly summoning her staff and facing the bushes in alert.
Lilith: Who's there!?
Lilith's palismen flares up, prepared to attack until behind her the cloaked Weaponry Coven Head steps out from behind a tree, leaning against it with his arms crossed.
Coven Head: Lighten up. It's me.
Lilith twists around and frowns upon seeing him, dismissing her staff.
Lilith: Oh, it's you. Why are you wearing that out here? Seeing you wear it outside of formal events is just weird. You may as well remove it…Qrow.
Qrow: What can I say…?
The Coven Head now known as Qrow grabs and tosses his cloak away, revealing his true face.
Qrow is revealed to be a man in his 40's but with the looks and build of a man in his late 20's or early 30's. He has black, spiky hair and faded red eyes. He wears a blue dress shirt, a tattered red cape, black dress pants and black dress shoes. He also wears a ring on his right index finger, two other rings on his right ring finger and a necklace with a crooked cross-shaped pendant.
With a confident grin he shoves his hands in his pockets.
Qrow: I love to give off a broody, mysterious vibe. Lilith remains bemused. So, did you give her my message?
Lilith: I did. Now all she has to do is pass it on to her human. You'll have the fight you want soon.
Qrow: Good.
Lilith: Why do you wish to fight the human so badly, Qrow?
Qrow: Why do you think? To test him. I'd think that'd be obvious. I wanna see if this kid has what it takes. And if he has the gift.
Lilith: What are you talking about?
Qrow: Qrow chuckles. Either you're playing dumb or being Head of the Emperor's coven has done a number on your brain. Lilith frowns in annoyance at that. Maybe I should start calling it the Garbage Coven, since everything our so-called emperor teaches is garbage itself.
Lilith: Watch your tongue, Qrow.
Qrow: Qrow mockingly held up his hands defensively. Ooh. I'm sorry. I keep forgetting how sensitive everyone is from the Garbage Coven.
Lilith: He laughs, further angering Lilith. You're even worse than my sister sometimes. I'm not in a mood for your immature games!
Qrow: Gee. You bigshots from the emperor's coven think you're special, don't you.
Lilith: The name itself makes us special compared to other witches in covens.
Qrow: Well, you know what you really are? A bunch of sellouts…just like your boss. And so are the other coven heads.
Lilith: You realize you, yourself are Head of the Weaponry Coven.
Qrow: Qrow stuffs his hands in his pocket. So, I am. Your point?
Lilith: If you really believe that about covens, then why are you the head of one? You were the last person I'd ever expect to join a Coven. Yet you have. And after all these years you still haven't told me why.
Qrow: Because it's none of your damn business. Why do you want to know anyway? So, you can rat me out like you did with my brother?
Lilith looks down and away in guilt, the kind that's been eating away her for years.
Qrow: I wonder if little sis knows about what you did all those years ago. Lilith's silence of guilt was all Qrow needed to see. Hmph. That's what I thought. You're the dead last person I'd ever trust to tell anything. You're lucky we were friends once or I would've killed you ages ago after that day. Lilith grimaces at that. And if you wanna keep it that way, then I suggest you mind your own business.
And with that, Qrow walks off, leaving Lilith to clutch her hands on her dress, trying to restrain herself from bursting into tears over a painful memory. She looks up to see a familiar crow flying off into the sky.
Meanwhile, with Luke and King, the duo returns to the Owl House, opening the door to find Eda sat on the couch reading the scroll given to her until she notices Luke.
Luke: Hey, teach. How'd it go at the market?
Eda: Oh, hey kid. The two walk over. Yeah, it went well. Your pals helped me out and I managed to make some good dough. Luke and King sat down on both sides. What about you? Have you calmed down?
Luke: Yeah. I was just…doing some thinking on the beach with, King. Trying to figure out what losing means to me.
Eda: And?
Luke: Luke sighs as he looks down. After I became an official fighter in my world…I got into a bunch of fights whether it was to defend myself or lay the smack down on jerks picking on the weak. I never lost a fight. And here, in the Demon Realm I was just as good. I fought monsters and duelled other witches. And I won every time…until yesterday. I still can't figure out what losing like that means for me. I don't if I can make something of it or if I'm just being a hopeless loser.
Eda gives Luke a look of sympathy. Seeing how hard he's taking this, she holds Luke's shoulder.
Eda: If you ask me, I think you losing can be good in some way.
Luke: What do you mean by that?
Eda: Let me tell you something kid. Losing stinks, especially when your winning streak gets broken. I should know, cause that's how I felt after I lost for the first time.
Luke: Really?
Eda: Definitely. When I was a student in Hexside I was undefeated in the battlefield. I was the strongest student, no one could beat me in a witch's duel. I had all the best spells and…
Eda gives a sly look, causing Luke and King to deadpan.
Luke & King: And the best cheats.
Eda: Yup! Then her face drops. Of course, my…winning streak came to an end when I met him.
King: Who's him?
Eda: Sparda.
Luke: Luke widens his eyes at that. You mean that guy you told me about in the Covention. The one who forged Rebellion and was like a brother to you.
Eda: The same one. I hadn't lost a single duel until Sparda became a student at Hexside and broke my winning streak.
Luke: You lost to a new guy? That must've been humiliating.
Eda: Yeah. It stung real hard. But… She smiles. It didn't really bother me that much after a while.
Luke: Luke is surprised. You weren't upset you lost?
Eda: Of course, I was upset. Everyone gets upset when they lose the first time. But my loss opened my eyes. Up until then I always bragged about how unstoppable I was and that no one could beat me. My overconfidence caused me to underestimate my opponent and I lost, like you with the Golden Guard. Luke listens closely as Eda smiles at him again. But that's okay. Sparda taught me I'm not invincible. Losing motivated me to work harder, learn more spells and become a stronger witch. If it weren't for Sparda I wouldn't be who I am today. And our short rivalry eventually led to us becoming close friends. And then we became siblings.
Luke can't but help but be in awe of Eda's words, her experience and friendship with Sparda.
Luke: Wow. So…you're saying I can use my getting my ass kicked by the Golden Guard to become a better fighter? And maybe even a better witch?
Eda: Exactly. Eda rubs her student's back. You shouldn't be ashamed of losing that duel to Belos' obnoxious little lapdog. You did great. You put a good fight against a powerful witch. Sure, you lost, but that's okay. Learn from your defeat. Use it to make you stronger. Don't let other people's opinions about you stop you from doing your best.
King: Yeah. Don't listen to what those losers say. You're a witch-warrior, Luke. And witch-warriors don't quit! YOU never quit.
Luke looks down, taking Eda and King's words, mainly Eda's. She's right, Luke may have lost that duel to the Golden Guard, but he shouldn't let that get to him. Instead, he should use that loss to motivate him to trainer harder and improve. It took this fight to make him realize it's a bigger world out there than he thought, and he needs to be ready to face. Luke looks down with a smile, letting Eda's words sink in before facing his teacher while crossing his arms.
Luke: This is the first time you've acting like a REAL mentor. You know, the kind who gives words of wisdom.
Eda: Eda gives a sly look. Don't get used to it kid. I'm having a moment of weakness for you.
Luke looks down again, finishing processing Eda's words of wisdom.
Luke: Yeah…yeah, you're right! Luke steps up in front of the table, filled with determination and the fire back in his eyes. I'm Luke Noceda! I'm not gonna let some jackass steal my mojo and catchphrase! Sure, I lost badly…but that's okay! I'll just use it to get stronger! I'm being stupid! I shouldn't be moping like this! I'll use everything I learned in that fight with the Golden Guard to train harder than ever! And next time I see that guy, I'll kick his ass!
Eda and King smile, happy to see Luke out of his depression and acting like himself again.
Eda: There's the Luke I know!
King: Yes! The smart mouth human is back!
Luke: I guess I've really been a bit of brat lately, haven't I? Thanks for making me realize that Eda. You too, King.
Eda: Hey, don't mention it kid. I'm just glad I could bring back your confidence.
Luke: You know…I've been meaning to ask you something Eda. On my first day at school, I learned about devils. And Willow and Gus told me about a famous and powerful devil called, the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda. Eda widens her eyes in surprise at that. Is there any chance, that the guy you've been telling me about is…?
Luke didn't need to finish his sentence. Eda knew what he was asking, and she smiles fondly.
Eda: Yeah. It's true. The Legendary Dark Knight Sparda and the man I've been telling you about are the same person.
King: Weh! Seriously!? I mean, I've heard of the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, but I didn't know he was the same guy you've always told me about.
Eda: I didn't really see a reason to bring it up at the time. But I guess I can tell you some things. After graduating from Hexside Sparda went off on his own to train hard. The two of us had a lot of things in come, we both hated covens and wanted to forge out own paths. Sparda wanted to go around the world using his powers to help people. And he did, starting with the Boiling Isles. He went around the entire place, fighting monsters threatening villages and towns, including Bonesborough. He used his devil powers to help as many people as he could. He even went toe to toe with the most ancient creatures, either bagging them or making peace with them.
Luke: Whoa. He sounds like a real hero.
Eda: Eda smiles fondly. He was a hero. Our hero. You know, it was him who forged the Rebellion in the first place.
Luke: I remember you telling me about that. What about the Yamato, that sword the Golden Guard wields? Did it belong to him?
Eda: Yeah. Originally the Yamato belonged to Sparda. It was part of his family for generations.
King: So how did it fall into the possession of the emperor's coven?
Eda: Eda looks down with a frown. It pretty much started when Sparda first attacked the emperor.
Luke: Willow and Gus told me about that too.
Eda: Sparda found out something about Belos that no one else knew. Because of it, he fought Belos. Eda sweats a little from what she's about to say next. After he escaped, Sparda went on the run. He went into a hiding
Eda sweats a little from the question, seemingly about to tell a lie.
Eda: Uh…no one knows. He's been gone for years. Last time I saw him was…well…it's complicated. I don't really know how to tell the rest of the story at this point.
Luke: That's cool, teach. You don't have to tell us now.
King: Yeah. We can wait.
Eda smiles, relieved and grateful.
Eda: Thanks. You know, Luke, I never told you this but…you remind me so much of Sparda.
Luke: I do?
Eda: Yeah. I see a lot of you in him kiddo. Seeing you every day makes me think about him.
Luke: Well…maybe when you're ready you could tell me more about him so I can understand why.
Eda: I'd be happy too.
King: King points to the scroll in Eda's hand. Hey, what's that scroll you're holding in your hand?
Eda gets serious upon being reminded of the message for Luke, holding up the scroll.
Eda: Oh right. I'd been meaning to tell you about this.
Luke: Did I miss something, E?
Eda: Lilith came to give me a message. Someone wants to fight you.
Luke: Who?
Eda hands the scroll to her student.
Eda: Read this.
Luke opens up the scroll and reads it.
Dear human kid,
I watched your duel with the Golden Guard and now I want to test you myself. You think you have what it takes to be a witch-warrior, huh? I'll be the judge of that. Meet me at the specified location below and don't be late. Let's see if you've got the gift, kid?
Qrow Argus
Luke looks to Eda, putting the scroll away.
Luke: Who the hell is Qrow?
Eda: The Head of the Weaponry Coven. Out of all 10 Coven Heads, he's the most powerful in my opinion, pretty much on par with me and Lilith and he can only do Weaponry magic.
Luke: Do you know this guy?
Eda: We were classmates at Hexside. He was part of my old friend group. We parted ways when he joined the Weaponry Coven. I haven't seen him much since. Like you, he's a swordfighter. And a real strong one at that.
Luke: Another swordfighter, huh?
King looks at the X marked on the scroll.
King: Hey, this spot looks familiar. Luke and Eda look at it with him. Isn't this spot for that broken up town you travelled through on that fake quest Adegast set up.
Luke: Luke snatches the scroll and takes a closer look. Hey, you're right! It's the same place! Why would this Qrow guy wanna meet me here.
Eda: He probably wants this match to be secret from the emperor's coven and since this town is destroyed and abandoned it's the perfect spot to have a secret battle.
Luke: Why does he want to battle me so badly?
Eda: I'm guessing he was impressed with your duel against the Golden Guard. Whenever Qrow sees someone with a little backbone he just has to test them.
King: Test them for what?
Eda: Their strength of course. Eda holds Luke's shoulder, giving a worried look. Listen kid, fighting a Coven Head isn't like fighting an ordinary witch, especially when that Coven Head is Qrow. He's extremely powerful, heck, he could give me, Lily or even Sparda a run for our money. And you've just recovered from losing to the Golden Guard. Eda pauses a little before looking into Luke's eyes. There's no shame in backing out from this. You don't have to duel Qrow if you don't want to. And personally…after everything you've been through; I'd prefer it if you didn't fight him.
Luke: Luke is a little touched. Eda…
Eda: But that's your decision.
Luke looks at the scroll in deep thought for a bit. Having made his decision, Luke looks up in determination, setting the scroll aside and stood up.
Luke: I'm not afraid. Luke looks to Eda. I'll face this guy.
Eda stood up, worried for her student, as is King.
Eda: Luke, are you absolutely sure?
King: Yeah, you don't have to do this. You just recovered.
Luke: I'm not backing down. I'm ready to get back in the game. I don't know how strong this Qrow guy is, but he just challenged me. I'm not gonna say, no. I lost last time to the Golden Guard cause I got cocky. I'm not gonna make that same mistake again. This time, I'm ready.
Eda can see the powerful, fiery look in Luke's eyes. Seeing how determined her student is was enough to let her accept his decision. She smiles proudly.
Eda: You're one of kind, kid. If you really wanna do this, then I'll back you up. Which is why I'm coming with you.
King: King jumps on Luke's shoulder. Me too! I'll be rooting for you to kick this guy's butt!
Luke: Luke smiles gratefully. Thanks, you guys.
Eda: But if you're gonna be facing someone as strong Qrow, this time you'll need protection. Eda motions Luke to follow. Follow me, I have something I wanna show you.
We go to Eda's room where she opens her chest and reaches inside with Luke and King stood behind her. The Owl Lady brought out the folded garments, presenting them to the two.
Luke: What's this?
Eda: Just a little battle outfit I've kept in store for you.
Luke: For me?
Eda: Yeah. Eda held them out, offering them to Luke with a smile. They're made of a really tough material that absorbs the shock and impact from spells and attacks. They're not mine, I just them for memories. But after watching how hard you've been training and how much you're learning, I think you deserve to have a little reward. This outfit's perfect for smart-mouthed punk with potential I've never suspected. An outfit fitting for a kid training to be ultimate witch-warrior.
Luke is touched, King watches as his brother takes the outfit, struggling to form words as he looks at the folded garments.
Luke: Eda… I…I don't know what to say.
Eda: That's easy. Just say, you'll wear it. What do you say, kiddo?
Luke looks between the outfit and Eda, smiling.
Scenes shift to Luke's room where he slowly puts on the outfit, his usual clothes have been put away for now, his hoodie hang.
Luke moves his arms through t-shirt sleeves.
He wraps a long armband between his wrist and elbows.
He stomps the floor, having put on a pair of boots.
He places his signature goggles back on.
And he zips up a vest, completing the outfit.
Eda and King wait outside for him, then hear Hooty speak.
Hooty: He's readyyyy! Presenting, the ultimate witch-warrior!
The door opens to reveal Luke stood in front of the door; his battle outfit donned. We now get a good look of Luke's new battle outfit. It consists of a hooded, zipped black vest with blue patterns worn above a navy blue short-sleeved shirt, long black armbands, black pants and black boots with blue dots.
Eda and King watch as the human boy with his hood up as he steps out the door, stopping inf front of the two of them. He removes his hood, revealing his grinning face. Eda crosses her arms with a smile.
King: Wow! Looking good, Luke!
Eda: Well…what do you think, kiddo?
Luke: I think I should donate the rest of my clothes to charity because I am never taking this off!
Eda: It looks great on you kiddo. You're looking pretty intimidating. This outfit will give you an edge over Qrow.
Luke: So, when do we leave? I've got a Coven Head's butt to kick.
Eda: Eda narrows her eyes, grinning. Right now.
Scenes shift to the ruins of the town Luke had travelled through on his fake quest set up by Adegast. The place is just as creepy as they all remember, the skies dark, there's a little fog around them and the buildings are fallen apart. Luke and Eda, both wearing cloaks are walking through the town with King riding the former's shoulder. The winds kick in a little, giving a creepy sound.
King: King shudders a little. This place is even creepier than we last came here.
Luke: You know, I didn't think I'd actually come back to this dump.
Eda: You and me both kiddo. And it's because of how broken down this town is that no Coven Scouts would ever come here. Now listen, kid. Qrow's seen you fight at the Covention. He knows your style, which means he'll have an advantage. And since you're up against a Coven Head this fight needs to be as fair as possible, so I'll fight him first.
Luke and King exchange surprised looks, then give Eda looks of concern as they turn and walk through an alleyway.
King: Are you sure about that, Eda?
Eda: Don't worry about me, King. I'll be fine. I'm the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles, remember? I can handle Qrow.
Luke: But Qrow wants to fight me, not you. How are you gonna get him to fight you first?
Eda: Qrow's likes a good, fair fight, kinda like you. If joining a coven hasn't changed him too much, he'll allow you to study his moves like he got the chance to study yours. Plus, I'm sure he'd jump at a chance to fight the most powerful witch of the Boiling Isles.
Luke: Eda, you don't have to fight in my place. I can handle this guy, even if I don't know his moves.
Eda: Eda smiles reassuringly, ruffling Luke's hair a little. Hey, don't worry about me. Like I said, I'll be fine. Qrow might be powerful, but so am I. Plus, you were unprepared to fight the Golden Guard. I won't let that happen this time. Watch our battle closely Luke. I want you to observe me and Qrow closely, got it.
Luke: Luke reluctantly looks down. Got it.
Suddenly, a black shadow could be seen behind the trio, zooming away. King is the only one who hears and turns.
King: Huh?
Luke and Eda stop, noticing King's looking back.
Luke: Something wrong little buddy?
King: I thought I heard something behind us. Must've been in my head.
Eda: It wasn't.
Luke and King see Eda is looking in front. At the end of an alleyway. A figure quickly disappears from view, surprising them.
Luke: What the-!?
Eda: It's him!
Eda ran with Luke and King following suite. They exit the alleyway, looking around until they spot the figure in the distance to the left, prompting them to follow. Luke and Eda ran through the ruins of the town, jumping over some rubbles piled together. They kept following the figure until they reach the edge of town and come to a halt when they find themselves in front of a large archway held up by pillars and in front of the archway stood a large statue of a demon with a scaly body, 3 horns and spiky hair and it held its sword downward. The trio walk forward, looking for the figure.
Luke: I don't see our mystery guy anywhere.
King: King sniffs a little. I'm picking up a scent. We're not alone here.
Luke and King notice Eda sadly and silently staring at the statue. Luke walks up to his teacher, staring at the statue with her.
Luke: What kind of demon's that supposed to be?
Eda: Well…
Qrow: That, kid…is a devil.
The trio gasp, turning behind to see a man walking up, his hands stuffed in his shirt pockets. It was Qrow Argus, Head of the Weaponry Coven, finally making his appearance to the Owl House Trio. He gives sly grin as Eda glares.
Eda: Qrow…
Qrow: Long time no see, Eda.
Eda: Good to see you. You haven't changed much, have you?
Qrow: Qrow eyes Luke staring at him. Huh. You must be the kid from the Human Realm.
Luke: Yeah…that's me.
Qrow: I'm sure your "mentor" has told you everything about me. But to make it official, the name's Qrow Argus, Head of the Weaponry Coven.
Luke: Am I supposed to care about that? Qrow just chuckles, annoying Luke. What's so funny!?
Qrow: I like your spunk kid. I was among the Coven Heads who watched your duel with the Golden Guard yesterday. Luke widens his eyes at that. You put up a good fight. But…I'm not impressed with how you handled it in the end.
Luke: If you weren't that impressed, why do you wanna fight me so badly?
Qrow: To see if you have the gift. Luke is confused by that. Tell me kid, do you really believe you have what it takes to be the "ultimate witch-warrior." Qrow chuckles a little. Sorry, it just sounds dumb saying it out loud.
Luke growls and was about to assault but Eda stops him with her hand, shaking her head urging him to calm down. Eda steps up, holding her Owl Staff.
Eda: Back off Qrow. First things first. If you wanna fight the kid, you'll have to go through me first.
Qrow: Sorry, E, but I want the kid. Go back to your trash stand in the market and sell your junk.
Eda: Hey, I'll have you know, my "junk" are precious valuables from the human realm!
Qrow: Qrow mockingly held up his hands. Ooh. I'm sorry. I mistook those "valuables" for… garbage you got from the trash.
Luke and King are surprised at the exchange happening before them, especially Qrow's insults.
Luke: Whoa…this guy really knows how to trash-talk.
King: You said it! First the Golden Guard and now this guy! I didn't think anyone could top your smart mouth.
Eda narrows her eyes, unamused.
Eda: I know what you're trying to do bird boy, you can't provoke me.
Qrow: Gee. You wild witches think you're so special, don't you?
Eda: We are special.
Qrow: Well, you know what you really are? Qrow grins. A bunch of trash collectors. Eda growls in annoyance at that. But hey, being a trash collector isn't as bad as being a sellout like your sister. By the way…how's your old man's eye doing?
Eda didn't take too kindly to that, clenching her fist, her anger boiling so much gold energy sparks out of her as she glares at Qrow.
Eda: Mention my father and his eye again and I'll cut off your TONGUE!
Eda points her staff, close to furious, confusing and worrying Luke and King.
Luke: Your father?
Qrow: Qrow mockingly held up his hands again. Ooh. Someone's sensitive. Nice to see you haven't changed Eda, aside from the fact you have a human as your student.
Eda: You haven't changed yourself Qrow, aside from the fact you've joined a coven, the last thing I ever expected from you.
Luke: Eda. What did he mean by-
Eda: Kid! Stay back!
Qrow: Listen to your "mentor" kid. She'll protect you.
Eda: Are you going to keep trash-talking… Eda points her Owl Staff right at Qrow. Or are we going straight to the part now where I steal your tongue just like I said!
Qrow: Qrow chuckles again. Alright. If you wanna fight me so bad… Qrow mockingly slicks his hair back. Come and get me. Hey, kid, watch closely if you wanna stand a chance against me.
Luke wanted to say something but one look from Eda was enough to make him back away, listening to his teacher's suggestion and watch the battle with King still sat tightly on his shoulder.
King: This is gonna be ugly.
Luke: Hope you know what you're doing teach.
Eda: Don't worry kid. I've got this.
Eda kept her staff pointed at Qrow, unbeknownst to any of them, Lilith was watching from a distance on a nearby building, cloaked and with her hood up.
Qrow brought up a finger, gesturing Eda to bring it on, a bait which she takes with a growl.
RWBY – Qrow vs Winter OST
Eda charges at Qrow, making several quick, but futile thrusts at Qrow's head as he swiftly bobs away from her staff, teasing her with several faces until he mockingly bows towards her. A downward strike is blocked by the base of his sword, Harbinger, right before it opens and extends and he tosses it in the air, pointing it at Eda.
Harbinger is revealed to be a silver single-edged greatsword with a clockwork mechanism of indeterminate nature built into the space above the hilt and a pair of parallel handguards is set beneath. A pair of shotgun barrels are also situated on either side of the main blade.
Eda remains calm and points her staff, both in a stance. The two openly tap their weapons together, like fencers ready for a duel and Owl Staff gathers gold energy.
King: I've never seen Eda look so serious before!
Qrow launches a downward strike that Eda manages to redirect before he aggressively swipes at the Owl Lady, forcing her to do a series of back handsprings away from the greatsword and eventually block it. The two of them spun around, trading rapid blows.
King: This guy's good!
Luke: Yeah! He's definitely a pro with that sword of his! No wonder he's head of the Weaponry Coven!
King: There's moving so fast I can't keep up with them! Can you?
Luke: Barely! Man…Eda was right. I've still got a lot to learn.
Both Eda and Qrow parry each other's strikes at rapid speed, Qrow launches a swing but Eda dodges and vice versa, they briefly clash then Qrow reels back and does an upper slash the Owl Lady barely evades before barely blocking another downward strike. She thrusts but Qrow blocks, forcing her back for him to swing only for her to parry. The Coven Heads lunges for two-handed swing before smacking Qrow's left cheek with a swing from her staff. But Qrow grins as his left eye flashes brightly and he leapt up with his sword reeled back. Eda quickly teleports in a flash of orange just as Qrow smashes and destroys part of the pavement.
Qrow looks up to see Eda floating in the air with a grin. She quickly breaks away from the midair crane stance as she lands near a lamppost, where she spun her staff and thrusts, Owlbert's eyes flashing gold as a Hooty Hydra emerges from the ground, lunging at Qrow. The sight disturbs Luke and King.
King: Hooty times 3?
Luke: That's thrice as disturbing.
Qrow however just grins and spun Harbinger, gathering energy to form a navy-blue spell circle and thrusts his blade, unleashing a massive blue energy blade that pierce through the hydra of Hooties like a javelin and then drops towards Eda who gathers energy as she spun her staff, before releasing a beam of gold energy that destroys the blade.
Qrow dashes to slice Eda. She ducks and he ends up cutting the lamppost. The Owl Lady flips above him and bouncing off his weapon and landing behind, Qrow swung only for Eda to leap on top of his sword. Qrow sees Eda smirking as she rests her staff on her shoulder before dealing a flip kick to the face, albeit futile since Qrow barely flinches.
Eda backflips onto the stump that used to be the lamppost, but then leaps off onto a railing high above, right as Qrow throws his sword at the stump. A shot is fired at the Owl Lady, prompting her to jump again. Qrow is revealed to have shifted Harbinger into Cannon Mode, the shots coming from the barrel. His weapon reverts back to Sword Mode as he watches Eda mount on her staff, flying near the side of a concrete, arched pillar.
King: His sword can morph into a cannon!?
Luke: I've seen those in my video games! They're called Gun Swords! They do those in the Demon Realm!?
Qrow ran forward as Eda flew up the face of the pillar. Qrow brought out a silver gun named "Storm" and fires a couple shots Eda dodges, eventually dismounting and landing onto the archway itself. Qrow follows suit leaping onto and running on the opposite structure, firing off round after round at his opponent from Harbinger and Storm, then casting a spell circle with Harbinger and sending a storm of knives right at Eda who deflects by spinning her staff as she ran. Qrow shifts Harbinger into Cannon Mode again to fire a stronger blast at Eda, engulfing her in an explosion of smoke.
King: Oh no! Eda!
Luke: Don't panic, King! Look!
Qrow puts his gun away then searches for Eda as he sees a cloud of white steam consume her, narrowing his gaze.
Luke: This guy's keeping his guard up. He knows it'll take WAY more than that to take down our Owl Lady.
Qrow continues searching for Eda, until…suddenly, Owl Staff is slammed onto the ground, causing a massive golden owl of pure energy to rise, hooting with vengeance and Eda's shadow could be seen in it, her eyes glowing orange much to the shock of Lilith, Luke and King who shield their eyes.
Luke: WHAT…THE…HELL!?
King: Ooh! Now he's in for it!
Luke: Explain!
King: When Eda does this, it's means she's using her FULL power!
Luke looks in disbelief. Eda's been holding back? Was she just warming up before? Has she always been able to do stuff like this?
Luke: WHAT!? EDA'S BEEN HOLDING BACK!? Luke stares at his teacher in awe and disbelief. I know she's the most powerful witch I know but this is insane! How much power has she been keeping!?
King: You're about to see.
Qrow watches as electricity flares from the hooting owl and Eda, merely grinning.
Qrow: Well, well, well. Maybe this wasn't such a waste of time. 'Bout time you start taking me seriously.
Eda: You're gonna wish I hadn't…
Eda blasts off in a burst of surging gold energy at high-speed, the tip of her staff glowing with power, but Qrow was ready with his greatsword held up. The two clash and release a massive surge of energy. A chunk of the arch collapses from the force, causing the two to crash back down to ground level so hard they create a small crater. They reappear exchanging furious strikes with their weapons.
Eda swung hard, forcing Qrow backward as he drags his sword in the ground to slow to a stop before holding his weapon in a back-handed stance. Eda grits her teeth as she held her staff, sweating and panting in exhaustion while Qrow remains cool, calm and collected, like he's barely even warming up.
Qrow: Looking a little a rusty there, Miss Most Powerful Witch on the Boiling Isles.
Eda: It's just been a while since I've used all my power, that's all.
Qrow: Or that little curse of yours is slowing you down?
Luke: He knows about Eda's curse!?
Eda: Maybe it is my curse…but that just goes to show…you can't even best me at MY WORST!
Eda spun around her staff, gathering as much energy as possible before spreading out her arms, summoning hundreds of spell circles around that unleash shots of gold energy all heading for Qrow who swung and spun his sword, expertly deflecting as many as he could. The blasts were getting shot faster and soon, Qrow was struggling to block. Eda's eyes glow bright gold as she unleashes even faster shots, seemingly overwhelming and engulfing him in an explosion.
Luke: Whoa! This is nuts! I've never seen Eda go all out like this before!
King: This is nothing! I'd like to see this Qrow guy get out of that!
Eda keeps unleashing more shots from her spell circles, all engulfing Qrow but then to her shock, an arc of energy blasts out of the smoke, revealing Qrow to have sent it with an upper swing from his sword. The arc ploughs through the shots and smashes into Eda, sending her flying and screaming in pain. Luke and King gasp in horror for her.
Luke & King: EDA!
…
Devil May Cry 4 Genocide (opening) - Begin from Minute 3
Eda cries out as she smashes right into the statue, dropping down and losing her staff. She struggles to lift herself up, groaning in pain and holding her shoulder. Her face covered in bruises and her outfit is looking a little tattered with a few holes in it. Eda gasps to when the tip of Harbinger is pointed right at her neck, Qrow giving her a grin. Luke gasps when the Weaponry Coven Head gives him a small glance before looking back to Eda.
Qrow: You almost got me there, E. If I hadn't brought up my defences, I'd have been dead. I like it. Nice to see you haven't lost your touch. But, alas, this fight's over.
Qrow brought up Harbinger, preparing to deliver the finishing blow and being too hurt to move, Eda closes her eyes, bracing herself.
Luke: NO!
Luke rushes forward so fast, King drops off his shoulder and is forced to watch his big brother charge into battle.
King: LUKE!
Luke screams as he charges Qrow, prompting the swordmaster to twist in surprise.
Luke: EDAAAA!
(Slow-motion) Luke lunges, delivering a powerful double kick right in Qrow's face, sending him flying high up into the air.
Eda: Kid?!
Luke uses the momentum from his kick to bounce and flip back, summoning a Glyph Gun when he lands and firing an electric shot. Qrow quickly deflects it, the force bouncing him back and he lands on the head of the devil statue, driving Harbinger right into it so he doesn't fall. Luke leapt high up with a battle cry to deliver a roundhouse kick, prompting Qrow to pull out his sword to guard. Luke ends up slamming the handle, driving Harbinger deeper into the head as the two warriors drop onto both arms of the statue, their cloak and cape whipping as they drew their guns (Luke only bringing out one Glyph Gun), aiming right at each other and striking epic poses, ready to duel.
Luke: Stay away from mentor!
Eda: Luke!
Luke: Eda! You okay!?
Eda: Yeah, I'm fine!
King ran over to Eda, holding her arm.
Luke: King! Get Eda to safety! I've got this!
King: You got it, Luke! Eda tugs on Eda's wrist. Come on, Eda, we gotta go. Luke can handle this now.
Eda: I know he can. Eda grunts a little as she stood up, holding her shoulder. Kid, be careful! You've seen how strong he is!
Luke: I know! But I've seen everything I needed to see! I'm ready!
Eda and King ran off, quickly getting into a safe distance as Luke kept facing and aiming at Qrow.
Luke: Alright. Now it's my turn.
Luke threw off his cloak with his free hand and it flew off into the breeze
Luke: You'd better Luke-out, bub!
Luke fires two shots. Qrow ducks the first then leapt up to dodge the second. Luke follows suit, locking his legs around Qrow, prompting the Coven Head to fire a shot in retaliation but Luke dodges and bites his gun, locking his legs onto his arm, restraining him and firing his next shot only for Qrow to bend backwards and kick Luke off. But the human boy was able to grab the swordmaster's coat tail and spun in the air, tossing him towards the statue.
Qrow recovers, putting his gun away and grabbing the hilt of his sword. Luke drops down to crush him with both feet, but Qrow moves back and ends up dislodging Harbinger, prompting Qrow to jump after it after it flew up into the air. Luke looks up as Qrow catches his sword and launches a downward strike the goggle-headed boy manages to block but the force sends him falling down between the statue and the stone sword it holds. Luke pushes his legs against it to stop his fall then fires a shot up that prompts Qrow to jump onto the handle of the stone sword.
With all his strength, Luke pushes his feet against the stone sword until it's pushed right off the statue. Unfazed, Qrow stood on the tip of the handle as the sword fell, resting his sword on his shoulder. Luke ran up the sword, summoning his other Glyph Gun and firing rapid shots that Qrow deflects by spinning Harbinger. When Luke gets close, Qrow leans his head to dodge the next bullets. Luke swung a gun and the two end up, bouncing off the sword in opposite directions as it tumbles and hits the ground, heading towards Eda and King.
Eda: Get down!
Eda grabs King and drops down, the sword flying right past her and smashing onto the ground. Luke and Qrow land, the human boy aiming a gun at the coven head who merely rests his sword on his shoulder with a grin.
Qrow: Not bad, kid.
Luke: You've got a jacked-up notion of fair play pal, and it's beginning to piss me off.
…
Luke fires a couple shots from his gun that Qrow deflects with a couple swings, prompting the witch-warrior to a barrage of dual electric shots from both guns that Qrow kept deflecting by spinning his sword.
Luke: How are you able to spin a sword that big!?
Qrow: It's all in the wrist kid.
Devil May Cry 4: Red Man - with guns and swords
Qrow ran forward, continuing to deflect the onslaught of bullets before leaping up. Luke continued firing but Qrow dodges all the bullets, diving towards Luke, prompting him to fire a grapple claw from his gun that hooks onto a lamppost. He flew up, just as Qrow smashes Harbinger into the ground again. Luke spun around the lamppost then flew off it past Qrow, retracting his hook and firing light, electric and fire bullets upside down. Qrow blocking and deflecting all of them then slides forward as Luke skids back on the ground. He proceeds to slash him but Luke slides underneath the sword then does a couple flips back before crossing his guns to fire but to his surprise Qrow has disappeared.
Luke: What the-!?
Qrow suddenly emerges from behind another lamppost still resting his sword on his shoulder which Luke notices without a need to look back.
Qrow: You're gonna need to be a lot faster than that.
Luke: Guess this won't cut it.
Luke spun his guns before dismissing them. He then brought out and tosses up Rebellion. When it falls, he catches the handle and swung his sword open, getting into a fighting stance and he faces Qrow, determined but also irritated.
Luke: What's the point of packing a sword like that if you're not even gonna use it!?
Qrow: You want me to use my sword so badly, huh? Alright. But you asked for it.
Devil May Cry 4: Blackened Angel (Dante battle 1)
Luke lunges at Qrow, launching two swings that he parries and then back flips to dodge a swing form his opponent. The two swordsmen charge each other and clash, releasing a shockwave that sends them both back and cracks a couple buildings.
Qrow then lunges at Luke with a swing which he ducks. The two trade a flurry of blows and kicks, Luke rolls to the side then ducks a kick from Qrow before they exchange more sword strikes engaged in a high-speed sword strike too impossible to describe. Luke unleashes his high-speed Million Stab technique, but Qrow was able to deflect him with a couple swings then by spinning Harbinger. He leapt up, spinning like a wheel and dove down for a downward strike that Luke quickly blocks, stopping the Coven Head and releasing another shockwave.
Luke grunts and groans, struggling to hold the Coven Head back while Qrow just grins, pushing harder and overpowering Luke with a slash, sending him flying back. Luke lands on his back and looks up to see Qrow lunge with a swipe, prompting him to dodge by kicking himself back up. He trades more sword strikes with Qrow but soon, Luke is forced into the defensive, struggling to parry a couple of sword strikes and when Luke slashes Qrow responds with an uppercut that sends him flying up. The coven head leapt up for a downward strike that Luke barely blocks, getting forced to the ground. Luke stumbles when Qrow launches another swing, his next one then disarming Luke of his weapon.
King: Oh no!
Eda: Luke!
Qrow leapt up to smash Luke with Harbinger, prompting the human boy to summon and cross his Glyph Guns, barely catching the blade which releases a big enough shockwave to cut a lamppost and cause a building to crumble. This time Luke and Qrow both share a grin as the former tries to hold back the latter. With all his strength, Luke spun his guns and surprises Qrow by disarming him of Harbinger and the delivering a kick right to the middle that sends him skidding far back.
Luke fires a grapple claw, snagging Rebellion and yanking it towards him, dismissing his guns to catches and gave a swing, the Electric Glyph going and causing Rebellion to go Electric Mode, impressing Qrow.
Qrow: I see you've got a couple tricks up your sleeve.
Luke: Thought the cat had your tongue. But if it's a trick you're looking for…then you're in for a shock!
Luke lunges for a high-speed thrust, prompting Qrow quickly flip above and catch Harbinger just Luke releases a blast of lightning in the direction he thrusted in before aiming another lightning blast Qrow who spun his greatsword to deflect, landing and firing shots from his canon that Luke deflects with three swings before lunging at Qrow, exchanging sword strikes and this time pushing the coven head back as each clash causes Rebellion to release a surge of electricity.
King: Wow! Luke's doing great! He's holding his own against a Coven Head!
Eda: Of course, he is! He's MY apprentice after all.
Qrow launches two swings, one Luke dodges by flipping back then jumps to block the other, grinding Rebellion against Harbinger before using the moment to spin horizontally and then deliver an uppercut, stumbling Qrow enough for another Million Stab technique. This time, it was faster and Qrow was struggling to block until Luke's last thrust was so hard, electricity blasts Qrow across the ground. He lands hard on a seat as it skids and crashes into the others before coming to a stop, revealing the Coven Head to be fine as he rests his greatsword on his shoulder.
Qrow: Not bad. Looks like this wasn't a total waste of my time after all.
A bemused Luke rests Rebellion on his shoulder as it reverts to base form.
Luke: Tough guy, huh?
Luke walks away from Qrow…only to kick a seat and send it sliding towards him, but the coven head had leapt off and so did Luke as all the seats had crashed and collapsed on each other. (Slow-motion) the two briefly trade blows midair, then Qrow lands on the ground, turning to face Luke, sat high on the pile of chairs doing the same. Both are casually grinning and resting their swords on their shoulder.
Luke: I think I'll have to take you down a couple notches.
Qrow: Whatever you say, kid.
…
Eda can't help but deadpan over how casual Luke and Qrow are acting. Though this is to be expected when two smart alecks are facing each other.
King: Is it just me or are they enjoying this fight a little too much?
Eda: Yeah, that's the result when two smart alecks with nonchalant attitudes and a thing for swordfighting are engaged in a duel.
RWBY – Bad Luck Charm Extended
Luke flips off the piled-up seats, past Qrow and lands some distances away from him, the Electric Glyph glowing again, and Rebellion once again powers up to Electric Mode. Luke swung his sword and got into a fight stance.
Qrow: You're not the only one with tricks up his sleeves, kid. Watch this.
Qrow held Harbinger by his side, and it begins to transform in a sequence initiated by its clockwork gears. It begins to separate section by section until the entire blade moves up and retracts backwards, revealing a polearm within that extends from both sides and forming a silver scythe.
King is stunned while Eda and Lilith are just surprised to be seeing the blade in this form again.
Lilith: Been a while since I've seen that.
King: He can turn his sword into a scythe!?
Eda: His sword is a scythe. That's Harbinger's true form.
Luke: Your sword can turn into scythe! That is way past cool, man!
Qrow: Thanks for the compliment!
Luke: But nothing's cooler than MY sword!
Luke charges Qrow and launches fast swings with his sword that the coven head parries by swinging and spinning around his scythe with pure expertise. He then moves forward, executing a spinning attack with Harbinger that forces Luke back as he ducks, dodges, parries and deflects the fast swings sent his way.
Qrow reels back Harbinger, the blade morphing into the shape of a war scythe. He thrusts and Luke brought down his sword to stop it, sparks grinding from their blades.
Luke: A war scythe too!?
Qrow: This is nothing, kid. You should've seen what my old weapon was like.
Luke pushes him off and launches swing and Qrow spun his war scythe like a bo-staff, blocking him with the back of his pole arm, then smacking Rebellion up before bringing down his war scythe to cut down Luke but he rolls out of the way and quickly jumps far back, unleashing a blast of electricity at Qrow who leapt forward, spinning with his scythe to cut through electricity. Luke swung his sword and mean Qrow head on, stopping the coven head and hold him back as another shockwave is released.
Luke barely pushes Qrow off and he lands behind the human boy. The veteran witch thrusts his war scythe, but Luke grabs the polearm and forces it down, then swipes with his blade, prompting the coven head to duck. The two the exchange blows with their weapons until Luke and Qrow blade lock, the former forcing Harbinger down and launching an elbow that the coven head blocks and grabs Luke's arm, pulling him off. He launches a swing with his war scythe again that Luke barely stops. Harbinger's blade shifts back to Scythe form, locking onto Rebellion. Luke barely redirects with his blade, prompting the Qrow to deliver several kicks that Luke barely blocks, and the coven head pulls his scythe back, yanking off Luke's sword and sending flying behind him.
Before Qrow could attack again, Luke quickly executed an upper flip kick, sending his scythe flying into the air but the moment he lands, the coven head leapt forward to deliver a kick. Luke crosses his arms, blocking it but the force sends him flying back, hitting the ground with a grunt. Qrow lunges to slice Luke only for him to kick himself up to evade. Qrow spun his scythe to swing again but Luke jumps over it, rolling behind Qrow and picking up Rebellion, electrifying it again and slashing Qrow, sending him flying back. Qrow recovers, clawing onto ground and glaring at Luke as Harbinger switches back to Sword Mode.
Luke and Qrow swung their swords, releasing energy blades that collide in an explosion, releasing energy and electricity that blew a lot of seats away and force Eda and Lilith to shield themselves with King hiding in Eda's hair for a bit.
Qrow waits, unable to see Luke through the smoke, except for a flash of red which made him suspicious…until Luke bursts out of the smoke with a battle cry and Rebellion in Fire Mode for a flaming swing that Qrow was quick to block, albeit barely. Luke releases a mini explosion that sends Qrow flying back.
He switches Rebellion to Light Mode and charges the coven heads, splitting his sword in two. Qrow casts spell circles and unleashes a barrage of swords, spears and knives, all of which Luke deflects with swings from his dual blades. He then got out his gun and switches Harbinger to Cannon Mode, firing a barrage of shots at Luke but he keeps deflecting and leaps up to toss a sword at Qrow, knocking his gun out his hand and dove down to slash him. Qrow swung his sword, and they clash with Luke sending out an arc of light that sends Qrow back. Luke picks up his other light sword and puts both back together.
Luke switches Rebellion to Water Mode and charges Qrow, the two of them trading one-handed sword strikes with Luke releasing some water. He then stops Qrow's sword and launches an uppercut that causes a geyser of water to send Qrow flying up.
Luke then switches Rebellion to Plant Mode and leapt up. Qrow recovered and fell only for Luke to launch himself towards him, his sword being wrapped in vines to form a fist which he thrusts to smack Qrow and send him crashing into the statue. Luke lands, the vines disappearing as he stood ready.
Eda and King watch the battle in amazement, impressed with how well Luke is doing compared to his fight with the Golden Guard.
King: Luke seems to be holding his own so far.
Eda: He sure is. But he can't get cocky. Qrow has still got one trick up his sleeve that he's yet to show.
Qrow bursts out from the statue towards Luke who switches Rebellion to Ice Mode and swung, the two engaged in another clash. Qrow gives the human boy a grin.
Qrow: Now you're putting on quite a show!
Luke: I learn from the best!
Rebellion is once again switched to Electric Mode, but Qrow manages to overpower Luke, forcing on the defensive with fast swings that Luke is struggling to parry and deflect.
It's a moment like this however that Eda was waiting for.
Eda: Luke! Our sparring session back home! Remember what I taught you!
As Luke fought Qrow, his mind flashes back to earlier, before coming here.
(Flashback)
In the backyard, Luke and Eda were sparring. The Owl wanted teach Luke a little technique she learned when she was a kid.
Luke and Eda trade blows with Rebellion and Owl Staff. The witch was aiming for Luke's legs for some reason as she deflects a swing then smacks his knee, but Luke goes in for a thrust which she dodges as she spun her staff.
Eda: Watch your feet kid!
Eda aims for his feet, but Luke jumps back. When lunges for another swing Eda smacks his wrist, disarming him of Rebellion. With two spins she sweeps Luke of his feet then delivers a well-placed kick in the stomach. He lands on the back of his head.
Eda: And I win.
Eda walks over as Luke lifts himself up, rubbing the back of his head.
Luke: Ow! For a decrepit old lady, you kick hard teach.
Eda: I don't rely solely on my spells, you know. And again, I'm not that old.
Luke: How did you pull that off?
Eda: Sparda used it on me when we first fought. It's how he beat me. It's real handy when your opponent tends to leave their legs wide open, which I've noticed you seem to do.
Luke: Luke looks at his leg. Huh. I never noticed that. Sounds like another opening to keep an eye out for.
Eda: Yup. I know as a fighter you try to probe around the edges and look for an opening. I'd suggest keeping an eye on the spots your opponent leave themselves wide open for. You'll need it to beat Qrow. Luke raises his eyes in confusion at that, but Eda continues smiling. Trust me kid, you'll know when it's time.
(End of Flashback)
Luke is continuing to defend against Qrow's wild attacks, all while looking at his feet stepping forward.
Luke: "Alright Luke. Just like Eda taught you. Watch his feet. Wait for it…"
Luke kept blocking, waiting for the right moment to strike. Then, when Qrow stepped forward too far, that's when Luke found his opening.
Luke: NOW!
With two spins Luke drops down to sweep Qrow off his feet then delivers a well-placed kick to the stomach that sends the veteran witch flying. He smashes into the statue with a grunt, dropping down and losing his sword.
Eda and King cheer victoriously for Luke.
Eda: Booyah! That's my boy!
King: Yes!
Qrow quickly got back on his feet, grabbing Harbinger, surprised by Luke's attack.
Qrow: I recognise that move from anywhere!
Qrow gives Luke a look, briefly seeing the blue-haired demon that looks like him in his place. He looks in shock and disbelief at first, the grins. Luke got in a stance, Rebellion switches to Electric Mode and surges with power.
Luke: Let's end this!
Luke lunges at high-speed for one final strike and Qrow quickly held up his arm. When Luke slashes it, a blind light of electricity surges, causing everyone to shield themselves. When it subsides, Eda and King open their eyes.
While Eda worries, King gasps in shock at the sight before them. No one could be more stunned than Luke right now because his attack was blocked. Qrow's arm had taken a darker, scalier form and his fingers are now claws which he used to block Luke's attack. He moves his arm to reveal a smirk.
Luke: What the hell…?
Qrow: Surprise. I never thought I'd do this again. I've gotta say kid, you've got the moves. And I'm loving it. You're definitely doing better than when you faced the Golden Guard in the Covention. So, allow me to give you a little reward for the good fight you've put up against me
Qrow grabs Rebellion with his demonic arm, spun Luke around and sends him flying. Luke cries out and lands on his back, prompting Eda and King to run up to him.
King: Luke!
Eda: Are you alright kid?
Luke: Luke lifts himself up. I'm fine! But what the hell's going on!?
King: Yeah! What he said! How did you do that?
As Luke stood up, Qrow chuckles and sticks Harbinger to the ground.
Qrow: Let me show you a little secret I've been keeping under wraps for a REALLY long time. I don't show it very often because I don't want Belos finding out about it. But you've earned yourself a sneak preview kid. Your mentor knows what I'm talking about.
Luke: Eda, what is he talking about?
Eda: You're about to see, kiddo. Qrow's about to reveal his big secret.
Qrow: That's right. You ever hear the rumour of only one devil living on the Boiling Isles? Well…
Qrow crosses his arms and closes his eyes. When he opens them, they turn blue, and he spreads his body, smoky electricity engulfing him much to the shock of Luke and King as they watch Qrow undergo some kind of transformation, black/blue electricity swirling around his body.
Qrow's skin turns dark, he growls as his teeth become sharp, the whites in his eyes become black. He gains a pair of horns, his upper body turns blue, feathered gauntlets form on his arms, his legs become black and scaly, his coat turns demonic with three spikey segments, and he grows a large pair of black crow wings. Luke and King watch in horror as Qrow's transformation finishes, revealing his new, terrifying form. He surges with electricity as he removes and clutches Harbinger, giving the trio a grin. Qrow's voice remains the same but with some added distortion to it.
Qrow: You're looking at him right now.
…
Luke: HOLY CRAP! What the hell has this guy become!?
King: No way…it can't be! Qrow is a…he's…
Eda: A devil. Luke, King meet Qrow Argus, the Last Devil of the Boiling Isles.
Luke is stunned to see a real-life devil in person. Willow and Gus told him about devils, he had learned about devils in class, and he saw a couple pictures, but he never imagined he'd meet one in person after hearing what happened to them.
Luke: You're a devil!?
Qrow: That's right.
King: So…the rumours of a devil secretly living on the Boiling Isles were all true!
Luke: And you're him! You're the only devil living on this crazy island!
Qrow: Bingo. You hit the nail right on the head.
Eda: It's been a while since I've seen you in this form Qrow.
Qrow: Up until now, I've had to keep it hidden, so no one would know.
King: But how is it you're a devil!? Belos banished every single one of them!
Qrow: I wasn't among the devils that Belos "banished". Let's just say the emperor isn't as all-knowing as people believe him to be.
Despite what he's seeing, Luke remains determined and got in a fighting stance.
Luke: I don't care if you're a devil! I'm not going down without a fight!
Eda summons her Owl Staff, prepared to fight too.
Eda: Sorry, to cut in but I'm pitching in too, kid! This is a devil you're facing after all!
Qrow grins, until he spots Lilith still stood on one of the buildings watching him fight. She gives a glare which he secretly returns.
Qrow: "Fun's over I guess."
He looks back to Luke and Eda and the two prepare for him to attack only to be surprised when Qrow becomes engulfed in flames again, reverting back to his original form, deactivating Harbinger and sheathing it back behind him.
Qrow: I think that'll do for today.
King: What?!
Luke: You chickening out, pal? I'm just getting started here!
Qrow: Don't get carried away again, kid. I just wanted to give you a glimpse of what a devil looks like. And to test you. If I were to go at you full force, I could kill the both of you. Not what I want right now. Qrow gives a mocking bow. So, what's say we call it quits for now?
Luke and Eda exchange looks. Qrow seems serious enough to call this fight, so they stood straight, holding their weapons by their sides. Qrow stuffs his hands in his pocket.
Qrow: I gotta say, I like your spunk, kid. You definitely did better than yesterday. You're getting better. You've got the moves and even though you haven't shown it, I can tell you also have the gift. You're a quick learner and a little punk. I like that. I'd go as far as to say I've underestimated your abilities. Qrow points at Luke. You're going places kid, so keep sharpening your skills, get stronger, smarter and you just might become the ultimate witch-warrior, like you've been saying.
Luke: Uh…thanks, I guess…
Qrow: You know…we're the same, you and me. But I suspect, you have something far greater than any devil, including myself and my brother.
Luke: Luke is confused. Your brother? What are you talking about? What do you mean we're the same?
Qrow: You'll come to learn soon enough.
Qrow quickly jumps up the statue until he reaches the head, looking down on Luke and Eda, the latter looking troubled.
Eda: Qrow…I'll never understand why you of all people ever joined a coven. Especially after what Belos did to Sparda.
Qrow: Qrow frowns at that, taking this seriously this time. I have my reasons, E. And one day… I might just tell you. For now, I've got damage control to attend to. He gives Eda two-fingered salute. Been nice seeing you Eda.
Qrow turns to leave but Luke wasn't having it.
Luke: Hey! Get back here!
Luke summons a Glyph Gun and shoots a bullet only for Qrow to have already disappeared.
Qrow: Catch you later kid, Owl Lady, and you…horned dog.
And with that, Qrow disappears from view, leaving Luke and King to process what they've just witnessed and Eda to simply glare no in anger but rather confusion as to what Qrow's game is.
Luke: What the hell was that?
King: The rumours really were true. There really is one devil living on the Boiling Isles.
Eda: Yeah. And that devil is one of my old friends who is now the Head of the Weaponry Coven.
Eda then looks to Luke who is now silent, looking up in wonder. Eda places a hand on her student's shoulder.
Eda: You okay kid?
Luke: Yeah. I'm fine. So…that was a devil, huh?
Eda: Yup. Sure is. One of the most powerful demons in this realm.
Luke: And I thought I was a weirdo. This guy makes us look normal.
Eda: Eda snorts with a laugh. Yeah. You can say that again.
The trio continue looking up, the battle has come to a tense close and has raised questions for Luke. Lilith had finished watching all this from the building she was stood on and she looks up to see the same crow that had been spying on Luke in the air, flying away from the town, causing her to narrow her eyes at it for some reason. She turns to take her leave; she has some reprimanding to do.
It's night-time now and after returning to the Owl House to rest and recover, Luke is sat on his bed wearing his pyjamas, speaking to Amity, Willow and Gus via his Penstagram in split screen and King is laid beside him, sleeping. He had told them all what happened, and they were shocked to hear Luke took on a Coven Head and said coven head is the last devil of the Boiling Isles.
Amity, Willow & Gus: WHAT!?
The three were also wearing their pyjamas on screen, excited.
Amity: I can't believe you took on a Coven Head!
Willow: I can't believe you took on Qrow Argus!
Gus: And survived! He's the most powerful out of the 10 main coven heads!
Luke: Yeah, he was one tough bastard, but I managed to fight him off.
Willow: And he's a devil!? So, the rumours were true!
Amity: There's actually a devil living on the Boiling Isles!
Gus: And he's the Head of the Weaponry Coven! That's amazing!
Luke: Yeah, it's pretty insane. So, that's what a devil looks like. I never thought I'd meet one in person. Even though, I didn't get to fight him in that form I could tell he looked really powerful.
Amity: Yeah, that's natural. Devils are one of the most powerful demons out there.
Willow: Are you going to tell anyone else about this Luke? Like the emperor's coven?
Luke: No way, jose! I'm no snitch. Besides, I'd prefer this Qrow guy to stick around. I've got questions for him, and he can't answer them if he's dead. Besides, why should I care if a devil's in the emperor's coven? That's Belos' problem, not mine.
Gus: Well, if you won't tell anyone, we won't either.
Luke: Thanks guys.
Amity: Luke, are you okay? You're not hurt anywhere, are you?
Luke: Me? Nah, I'm A-okay. I mean, I know I was looking pretty grumpy after losing to that jackass, the Golden Guard. But, thanks to Eda, I know losing isn't anything to be ashamed of. I can use it to get stronger. And after facing Qrow I'm more fired up than EVER for my next fight. Amity, Willow and Gus all smile. I'll keep getting better and next time I'll kick the Golden Guard's golden ass!
His friends are clearly happy to see Luke's confidence and determination has returned.
Willow: It's great to see you confident again.
Gus: You'll get that guy next time Luke.
Amity: And we'll be there to root for you.
Luke: Gracias amigos. I'll see you guys at school on Monday.
Gus & Willow: Willow and Gus wave. See you, Luke!
They disconnect and it's just Amity who's giving Luke a sweet smile.
Amity: Hey Luke…I'm glad to see you smiling again.
Luke: Thanks Ams. I'm glad to be smiling too.
Amity: Amity scratches her hair a little. Hey, you know, I'm free all day tomorrow. Amity blushes. Maybe you and I could hang out together.
Luke: Sure, I'm game. We could go grab an ice-cream together.
Amity: I'd like that. I'll see you tomorrow, gogglehead.
Luke: Luke gives a too fingered salute. Buenas noches, princess.
And with that, Amity disconnects, and Luke puts his scroll away. He then hears a knock on his door and looks to see Eda there wearing her pyjamas.
Eda: Hey, mind if I come in?
Luke: Sure, come on in.
Eda walks in and sits by her student.
Eda: So, how are you holding up?
Luke: Honestly, I feel great! I mean, I didn't win or lose that fight, but I'm not afraid of losing anymore! Thanks for snapping me out of my depression, Eda. I really owe you and King.
Eda: Eda touches Luke's cheek. Aww. Don't mention it kid. It was weird not seeing you smile or give your usual wisecracks. You put up a really good fight against a stronger opponent who was a coven head of all people. I'm proud of you, Luke.
Luke: Thanks, teach. I don't think I could've pulled it off though if you hadn't taught me that leg trick. It'll come in handy for future battles.
Eda: Trust me, it will.
Luke: Hey Eda, did you know that Qrow was a devil from the beginning?
Eda: Eda snorts. Well, of course I did. We were friends once, remember. And believe it or not, Qrow is also Sparda's brother. Luke widens his eyes at that. Well, half-brother to be exact. Regardless, the two of them were quite a combo when we were kids. After graduating Hexside, the two of them went a lot of adventures together. And I'd occasionally join them. Eda frowns. Of course, then some things happened and Qrow eventually joined the Weaponry Coven.
Luke: His vibe's kind of similar to mine. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who agrees with all that coven junk.
Eda: He doesn't. That's why I'm confused as to why Qrow joined, especially after what Belos did to Sparda and all the other devils.
Luke: I'm sure he has his reasons. But how is it he's survived all this time? Belos banished all the devils, didn't he? How is Qrow still here?
Eda: Belos probably doesn't know Qrow is a devil. Plus, he kept wearing a mask on all his adventures with Sparda and he used a different weapon so I doubt anyone would recognise him. Otherwise, I see no other reason why he's been able to stick around all these years.
Luke: You know…there's something about this guy that makes me want to see him again for some reason. Same goes for the Golden Guard.
Eda: Eda ruffles Luke's hair. Well, with your knack for getting into trouble that's likely to happen soon. But right now, you need to get some rest. Luke removes Eda's hand. I've got some chores I need you to do for me. Then we'll work on your Glyph skills.
Luke: Luke lays back, preparing to sleep. Sounds good to me. I'll see you tomorrow.
Eda: Night, kiddo.
Eda surprises Luke with a kiss to the cheek before walking out the door and closing it. Luke is left to sleep in his room, looking up. He brought out his amulet again, looking at it with smile before setting it down, feeling optimistic about tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Lilith was walking with Qrow down the corridors of the emperor's castle, reprimanding him for going devil during his fight with Luke, though the sword-wielding witch simply has his hands in his pockets with a grin as the elder Clawthorne Sister follows behind him.
Lilith: What were you thinking!? You revealed your devil form out in the open!
Qrow: Pfft. Don't see what the problem is. It's not like your sister doesn't know I'm a devil.
Lilith: Yes! But it was still insanely reckless! If anyone, civilian or scouts nearby saw that they would've reported you and the emperor would have you executed.
Qrow: But there weren't any scouts or civilians nearby. There was no one to rat me out. So, I think our "precious emperor" can't execute me now, can he?
Lilith is getting flustered and frustrated with Qrow's callousness and lack of respect.
Lilith: You are unbelievable! If you were one of my scouts, I would have you shot!
Qrow stops, turns his head with a scowl, taking out a flask with drink inside.
Qrow: If I were one of your scouts, I'd shoot myself.
Lilith growls at that, turning a little red as Qrow takes a drink from his flask before sealing it up and giving her a look.
Lilith: If you keep drinking that mind numbing gunk, you'll go drunk.
Qrow: I'm always drunk. Anyway, I don't see why you'd care what happens to me?
Lilith: I do care what happens to you! The reason I'm even saying all this is because I'm worried for you!
Qrow continues scowling, not believing her.
Qrow: Is that right? Where was that kind of care for Sparda? My brother? Didn't you rat him out to go higher up the garbage coven? Lilith recoils, stung by that as Qrow puts his flask back. Tell me Ms Stooge. Are you trying to capture Eda to heal her curse or to stay in the emperor's coven?
Lilith: I…I…
Lilith is unable to respond to that and Qrow turns away.
Qrow: If I were you, I'd start looking into the emperor…hard…before you make another mistake you can never take back…like you did with me and Sparda. But aside from that, I have a feeling I'll be seeing the human kid again real soon. He gives a smile. And I'm sure as hell looking forward to that. There's more I'd like to see from him.
Qrow proceeds to walk away while Lilith reaches out, wanting to say something but couldn't. She just looks down, hurt by the truth in Qrow's words about her. Years ago, she betrayed Sparda, one of her best friends to gain her current position as Head of the Emperor's Coven. She had her reasons, but it was still no excuse. She betrayed her friend to Belos and by extension betrayed her sister. She crossed a line that day and if Eda were to find out about it…she'd never be able to look her in the eye again.
