"Mione...I just proposed to Ginny...I...I'm sorry but I don't know what to tell you. How we were in the tent, how we have been...it was never going to be permanent. I'm sorry for the position it has you in now, and I'll give you money to help with whatever decision you wish to go with, but that's all I will be able to do." He says without even looking at her.
Hermione was devasted. She hadn't even known he got back with Ginny.
They had gotten...intimate...after Ron left them in the forest. Never far from each other, always touching, sleeping in the same bed...making love. They became a strong team. After the war ended, they moved into Grimmauld together. They helped each other with their nightmares, she got him to agree to therapy. Started the remodel of the Black townhouse.
She had started studying for her NEWTS when she started feeling sick. Not having been in the best health in the first place from living on the run, she hadn't worried about it. They got into a routine of life. Ron tried sucking up to her to get her to date him. Harry had even gotten jealous, leading to a hot steamy night after getting back from thr Burrow.
With her NEWTS complete and off her shoulders, she finally went to the doctor to find out what was wrong with her. She had not expected to hear she was 6 months pregnant. She had been nervous about bringing it up to Harry because they were still healing from the war. Still though...this was more than she was expecting to hear from him.
She cried as he awkwardly pat her should before getting up. She distantly heard a repeated i'm sorry from him but it sounded too much like a final goodbye.
After a while she was able to wipe her face and get up from the couch. She spent the next hour packing all of her belongings. Harry had obviously left and she wasn't going to linger around her. Her heart hurt as she too often focused on how they had made Grimmauld their home together. Because of that though, she left the furniture she had chosen for herself as well. She didn't need the reminder after she was gone.
For the moment, while she decided where to go after this, she got herself a room at the Leaky Cauldron. She mostly just stayed in her room though she did go out a few times to purchase books on magical pregnancies.
It was as she was panicking while eating over the thought of her magic glitching in her third trimester when she looked up into the eyes of Viktor Krum.
"Mya? Are you okay?" He asked. She was surprised to see him. They had kept in contact after the Triwizard Tournament but he had not mentioned being in London, in the middle of October at that.
"Viktor?" He looks her over and sighs before sitting down across from her in her booth.
"Who made you cry, Mya?" She thought it over before deciding to give in. SHE had nothing to hide. After warding the area around them for privacy, she told him everything. Impressively, to herself anyways, she didn't cry the whole time she explained.
They sat for awhile there. She finished her meal and he ordered himself a firewhiskey. When they finished, he turned back to her.
"This is my last night in London, Mya. I go back home in the morning... come with me. " She had been looking at her bowl as she heard him say he was leaving. She had started feeling sad about his departure. But when he said those words her eyes jumped up to stare at him in shock.
"What?" He gives her that look he used to do when he was a tournament champion. He knew she wasn't dumb by any means.
"My feelings have not changed for you Mya. I know you love that excuse of a man, but I'd like you to consider giving us a chance this time. Doesn't have to be immediately.
Either way, I'm opening my home to you, whether it be just as friends or as a future possibility. You never did come see me over the summer. You'd love it."
She bit her lip as she thought it over. She didn't know where else to go. She knew she had friends who would take her in until she was back on her feet but... the thought of leaving Britain did sound appealing. She nods. He smiles wider than he probably meant to. They split ways at the stairs with the promise to meet at Gringotts in the morning.
While she got ready for bed, she decided to write to select people. Neville, Luna, and George got honest truths from her. It was a short version but we'll enough for them to understand why she was leaving. They were the only ones she told where she was going.
After some thinking, she writes Harry. She told him she was leaving Britain, just not where. It had been a few days since she left Grimmauld bit she hasn't heard from him or the Weasley family. Not that she expected to. He made it clear he wasn't going to tell them about the baby.
She stares at the papers she got from the Potter Account Manager. Someone she hasn't even known existed until she learned how to have a parent remove their rights as said parents. They had been trying to get ahold of Harry for a long time. They figured out what was wrong and thanked her for giving them his current address. They got her the proper papers explaining after Harry signs it, he must be the one to send it back to Gringotts.
She had been back and forth on sending the papers. What if he decided he wanted to be a parent after all? But thinking now... sending him it would be him making his choice clear. So she attached it to her letter with instructions. She even made sure he had an excuse to the Weasleys on where she disappeared to. She sent it off before she could change her mind.
She woke up bright and early, packing her belongings and shrinking the trunk into her pocket. A few owls awaited her. One of them made her heart sink a bit. Gringotts had recieved the signed parchment from Harry. They would like to meet with her as soon as possible. Seeing she had a few hours before she was to meet Viktor, she had to the bank, reading the letters from her friends on the way.
She smiles as George and Luna each called dibs on godparent status. All 3 making it clear as well that she had a home with them if she changed her mind or decided to come back. And if not, they promised to visit often. She felt a little bit of the darkness push away at their support.
Spearhammer, the Potter Account Manager, handed her a key.
"What's this?"
"Mr Potter has requested a vault be open for you and your child. He will monthly add a set amount. You are free to use it as you please and will be the only one with a key.
He mentioned you were leaving Britain for a bit, we do have banks all over. Is there a specific location you are headed?"
"Bulgaria sir. I haven't decided if it is temporary or permanent yet."
"Very well. I'll have your vault accessible from there as well. Don't feel wrong about using the vault, Ms. Granger." She signed a few papers for her new account, accepted her key and discussed a few smart investments to increase her money. She accepted him as her account manager as well. He was smart, respectful, she trusted him to manage it well.
After that she did a bit of shopping for her own trip. A few baby things and such. Before long it was time to go.
Viktor looked relieved to see her show up. They hugged before holding on to a string that was their portkey.
He kept her from falling when they landing. She got a bit nauseous from the portkey travel but luckily, everything stayed down.
The home was beautiful.
The next weeks was spent being introduced to his family, settling into her room, seeing up personal doctors and Viktor showing her the country.
Her belly finally popped out by the beginning of November. Not large by any means though her hunger did increase leaving her with some extra pounds that she had needed. She was too skinny, all bone, based off what Mrs. Krum said.
The weather dropped soon enough, and snow covered the land. They set up the nursery together.
It was as she was sitting by the fire, drinking tea on Christmas morning when she turned to Viktor. The past months had been healing.
"Viktor?"
"Hmm?
"I've been thinking alot since you brought me here. I'd... I'd like to give us a chance. " He wanted to swirl her in the air in joy though settled for hugging her in front of her chair and them sharing their first kiss in years.
A flutter spread through her as their lips touched. Her magic seemed to glow from the connection.
They married on New Years. Luna, Neville and George showed up in support. George even considered lingering there as he was not healing as well as he should at home from the loss of Fred. He saw how happy Hermione looked from leaving home and decided to go the same route in hopes of the same.
Hermione have birth at the end of January. Viktor looked like a proud father. He had been pushing his magic into her belly to help the baby since she first arrived in Bulgaria so they weren't too surprised to see some of his features in the little girl. They had agreed to do a blood adoption after their marriage anyways.
Sasa Valera Krum had curly black hair, hazel eyes and a mean mug expression. Though that may be because she didn't like being changed, having been quite comfortable in her blankets.
12 years later
The Krum family cheered for their father at the World Cup, high in the box meant for family and important people.
"Hermione?!" She had been grabbing snacks from the bank of the room when she heard her name called out. Hands and arms full, she turns to the Weasley family. Ron being the one to shout out her name in surprise. She gives them a small smile in greeting though she avoided looking at Harry as he was staring a little too hard for her liking.
Before she could greet them, her son can running towards her, eyes on the popcorn.
"Mum! Is that for me?! Here, I'll help!" She couldn't help grinning as she split the snacks between her and her 10 year old son Stefan. He rushed off to spread the food between his siblings, not wanting to miss any part of the game.
"Mum? You have kids?"
"Yes. It's nice to see you all. You look well, " she says. And they did. Ron was holding hands with Pavarti Patil. A young boy was in his arms and Pavarti looked pregnant. Her old dormmate was eyeing her own swollen belly.
"Congratulations,' She arches an eyebrow at Hermione, her eyes gleaming with the sight of me gossip. Hermione inwardly rolled her eyes. Some things never changed though she was sure she'd be on the paper come the end of the Cup as this was the first sighting of her in Britain since she left all those years ago.
"Thank you. Number 5 and 6 actually." She watched all their eyes grow wide at the number.
"6 kids? Blimey Hermione, I figured you'd set your self more for a career than mother, " Ginny speaks up. The red head had her own brood of children looking like miniature versions of Harry. Two boys stood in front of their parents looking around the ages of 6 and 3.
"Yup. 12, 10, 6, and 4, this one is a set of twins. Threw us for a look. Well it's nice seeing you but I need to get back to them before the food ends up all over the floor. " She recieves a side hug from Arthur, George and Charlie and a wave from the rest. She could hear them taking about her as she walked away.
She did her best to ignore the feel of the stares at her back. She knew he was probably looking at her daughter. She made sure the kids didn't notice, instead focusing on the game.
They had front row view of the Quidditch game. Viktor every now and then got close to the box to wand to his family before flying away at the sight of the snitch. It seemed the crowds and reporters loved it. She'd gotten used to them being started at with intrigue. Despite the photos they got off the family, the wizarding world knew little about the Krum family.
They sceamed in joy when Viktor caught the snitch, winning the World Cup.
Hermione cleaned up the children's mess in the floor as they waited for the teams to come up to the box to shake the Ministry's hands and what not
"Uncle George!" No longer distracted by the game, her children had noticed him.
"Krummys!" She snickers at the name he called her brood.
"How do you know her kids,George?" Ron and Ginny look at him offended for not telling them he stayed in contact with Hermione.
"I'm their godfather. Been to every birth and birthday." He says as he passes out some toys and games from a bag he had on his back. She rubbed her belly as she smiled at the scene.
Not able to sleep that night thanks to some babies kicking her in the ribs, she and Viktor walked the grounds while George took his chance to babysit for the night.
"We'll be be home soon, love, " he rubs her back.
"Just one more month... I'm counting down. " She comments as they change tactics. He stands behind her, slightly lifting her belly, relieving the pressure on her body. "Oh yes. Just stay like that for a moment." While they stood there, they watched the still busy celebrations going on around the camp grounds.
"I'm glad your happy Hermione, " Harry appears before them.
"What do you want Potter," Viktor demands.
"I just...I just wanted to say I'm sorry for how I acted all those years ago. I did love you Hermione but...Ginny had the family I wanted. I shouldn't have started things with you or well continued it when I got back with Ginny. It wasn't fair to you. And it wasn't right keeping my actions behind your back. You didn't deserve that." With that said, he left them alone to go back to his tent. They stared after him a moment before walked back to their own camp.
"Strange man that one," Viktor says.
"It's over, that's what matters. I'm happy.I have you and the kids. I have everything I need and want. " She looks up at the man who claimed her heart when she had been broken. Her magic warmed comfortablely as they kissed.
"I love you Mya." He holds her close, feeling like the luckiest man that she had given him a chance to love her. "Come, we have really morning. They are letting families of teams use the pitch. It's time little one learn to fly with her siblings, " he ushers her to bed.
