Shinso was never really prepared for a move into class 2-A. After Losing to Midoriya in the sports festival, he had assumed he would be stuck in gen ed, but after the short purple shit was kicked out, he was greeted by a polite Letter from Nezu on his desk the next day.
"Dear Shinso Hitoshi, we are happy to inform you that upon the termination of Mineta Minoru from the hero program, we have come up with an empty slot in class 2-A. Judging from your performance in the sports festival, this spot has been given to you. Class 2-A has accumulated several… Odd habits and trauma responses over the years of villain attacks. Experience has proven that Nobody but Aizawa-san and Yamada-san are capable of caring for them. If you feel overwhelmed, we would be easily able to remove you from the Hero course at your discretion.
Thank you for your participation. Your dorm Is # 19A. Please move your things in by the end of break."
Shinso was breathing heavily at this point. Wet spots appeared on the letter, and it took Shinso a while to realize that he was crying happy tears. His grandmother rushed in, and comforted him.
"What happened sweetie? Is it bad news?" Shinso, through choked sobs held out the envelope with a smile on his face.
"Th-they're happy tears." his grandmother read through it and squealed. Shinso found himself in a hug that felt more appropriate for a python quirk than an empathy one.
"My little baby is getting into 2-A! I'm so proud of you!"
With no further fanfare, she unwrapped herself from Shinso, rushed up the stairs, and began to pack Shinso's bags.
Twelve days later…
Shinso gave his grandma the last hug until the next break. His grandma had made it abundantly clear just how proud of him she was, and gave him her unending support. She said that she would be on call at any time, and gave him four weeks of his insomnia medication in advance. When he arrived at the UA dorm building with his boxes of stuff, he felt overwhelmed.
This was real. He was going to be a hero, even learning under his idol, eraserhead. He stepped inside the dorms and was greeted by Iida yelling at Midoriya and Kirishima, A pink girl, Ashido if he remembered correctly, filming the entire thing, and Aizawa looking at a hole in the wall and sipping something that was definitely not coffee. Holy shit, I can smell the alcohol from here.
He went up to the only seemingly sane person in the room, a tall girl with a ponytail who was sipping a cup of coffee out of a teacup.
"Hi, my name's Shinso, I may be slightly insensitive but what the hell is going on?"
The girl looked over and smiled.
"Oh, the new kid. You can call me Yaomomo. And what happened is that Izu and Kiri were arguing about who gets to be the one to greet you first. Do you want a coffee?"
He pulled down the eyebag under his left eye, stretching the loose skin until it looked somewhat normal.
"What do think."
She nodded, and without a word pulled up her shirt and generated a cup of coffee in an slightly larger cup with cats on it. She set it in his unresponsive hands as his mind took a full 12 seconds to reboot. She just pulled a coffee out of her stomach? That's either super gross or- damn it smells good.
Before he could even think, he had brought the embellished cup to his lip and sipped the drink, and, god it was good. The flavor was rich and full, the aroma was strong and the mix had just the tiniest hints of milk and sugar. Shinso let out a involuntary moan as he drank the liquid greedily and felt the caffeine tingle under his skin and fill his body with more energy since he had felt in weeks, as the UA dorms, in all their amazing comfort, lacked a coffee machine. He heard a small laugh from where momo was sitting, and was surprised to find a small yellow boy now sitting on the tall girls' lap. He was wearing a leather jacket and wireless headphones rested around his neck. He was leaning against momo, his black streaked yellow hair pressed into the much taller girl's chest and neck. Momo giggled as he shuffled around a bit to get comfortable as he burrowed further into her. She brought one hand up and began scratching his head and he simply murmured and went limp. Momo kept the scratching and cuddling as she posed Shinso a question.
"So, how are you liking the dorms so far?"
"It certainly seems.. Homely."
"Thank you, that is my doing and Izu's. once you get past his obsession with heroes, he is really quite good at interior design. Did you know that when I was struggling about the layout of the kitchen he just walked down and sketched the current layout in ten seconds. He had also added in an all might shrine, but we managed to talk him out of it."
At that she laughed softly, and Shinso had giggled. when they calmed down, Shinso was more than twice as comfortable in his new setting. She laughed and stood, the yellow boy held against her chest in a koala hold, arms wrapped around Momo, her arms under his thighs so he didn't have to constantly exert muscle.
"Let's get you to your room, I think you'll love it."
As they walked up the dorm, Shinso wondered what they did with his stuff, as he had seen Midoriya and Kirishima moving the boxes up the stairs while he was talking to Yaomomo. He walked up the stairs and down the hallway to his room. 19A. As he went inside he gasped at the beautiful design that repeated across his walls, waves of deep violet and navy blue stretching around his room at eye level, and then again at knee height. Strings of mood lighting dangled from the ceiling and his bed was bigger than in the gen-ed dorms. His boxes were stacked in neat piles next to the far wall. Momo looked around, seemingly with approval.
"Todoroki really outdid himself with the painting this time, It looks lovely."
Shinso started in surprise, not having expecting the overpowered boy from the sports festival to have such a tender hobby as painting.
"Todoroki did this?"
"Oh yes, he's quite good at it as well. I apologize for the rushed job, we were only given your preferences in colors and lighting and such yesterday."
"Are you sure we're talking about the same todoroki here? The todoroki from the sports festival would never."
Momo gave a slightly sad smile as she reminisced on the past.
"You're right, if he were still the same as back then he would've never, but he's changed. We all have. He opened up a lot more after the sports festival, and when his therapist recommended he pick up a hobby, this is what he chose. We all have custom rooms at this point. After all the all for one bullshit the mandated group therapy told us all to get hobbies. Ojiro and sato took up carpentry and glasswork, Hagakure does ceramics, Ochako already had experience in construction, so our dorm is kind of a frankenstein's monster of modifications and skill levels. You can tell where we were just starting out, it looks awful in some places."
Shinso was startled to hear this prim and proper girl swear, but after all they'd been through, she deserved to unwind and be more comfortable. They were walking down the hallway and Shinso could tell what they meant by the varying skill levels as he could see a wooden tunnel that seemed to lead to some sort of tree fort, getting noticeably neater in its construction as it ended. He stuck his head in the tunnel, trying to get a better view of the room on the other side of the tunnel and felt momo do the same. She appeared to have lost the cute yellow boy at some point.
"Come on, this is one of the extensions, It's not like it's someone's room."
She crouched and began crawling through the tunnel, Shinso following and eventually emerging into a room that had a low ceiling, not enough to crouch, but about a foot and a half shorter than normal. The floor was littered with beanbag chairs, and there was a stairwell leading up and down. Momo proceeded up the stairs and emerged into a large room that had a domed skylight taking the entire ceiling and halfway down the wall facing away from the dorms. The entire floor was padded and there was an area to take off shoes. An enormous pile of blankets and pillows rested against the back wall to the left, next to a movie-theater sized widescreen TV.
Shinso was confused, his parents were loaded, and they didn't have a television nearly this wide.
"This is where we normally sleep."
"The hell? I thought you said that this wasn't a bedroom."
"We need to sleep together. Whenever we don't we get night terrors."
Shinso was not entirely surprised. With the shitshow that this class had been through, He had been expecting them to have problems sleeping.
"When do you usually go to bed?"
"Usually close to three in the morning. A lot of us have insomnia, and the rest do it out of solidarity"
Shinso's small smile was growing. The gen ed dorms had an enforced curfew of 10 PM, and He was forced to lie awake in bed for hours before his body decided to finally shut down. He would welcome this change. Momo inhaled deeply and lit up.
"smells like breakfast is ready! Katsuki always does such a good job, I swear if he wasn't a hero he would be a chef."
Shinso was internally beaming. A 3am bedtime and breakfast at noon? He could sure as hell get behind this.
"Didn't take Bakugou for the chef type. Don't tell me this was a therapy thing also."
Momo giggled, seeming to find the notion funny.
"Katsuki came like that. His mom is a fashion designer and his dad works as a sous chef in the second best restaurant in tokyo. Bet you didn't think Bakugou for sewing either, but he tailors his own suits and casual wear."
Shinso snorted. Momo was right, he would have never imagined that Bakugou of all people would sew or cook.
"Honestly I kind of expected Midoriya to cook, but I guess not."
"Izu cooks too, his mom taught him, but Bakugou is way better. Katsuki only recruits Izu when he has a lot of prep work to do, or to make curry. Izu's secret recipe curry is always the best. Oh by the way, can you handle spicy food?"
"...Yeah, why?"
"Because Kat's food is really spicy. Even when you leave of the super hot sauce, you need to be able to handle it. I remember the time that Yamada-sensei tried to have his curry with the superhot on it. He had diarrhea for a day and a half and had to wash his mouth out with milk."
Shinso barely made out a whispered "I still don't understand how Kat and Izu can drink the stuff like water."
What Momo didn't know was that Shinso knew how large Yamada's spice tolerance was. He had seen him eat bird's eye chilis when they had eaten Korean food, and when Shinso had tried to do the same thing, his mouth had been flooded with unbearable heat
"Mother of god"
Momo only Laughed.
So hi readers. this is my first attempt at writing a softer, more slice of life style story. I enjoy these kinds of stories very much and wanted to make one myself. This is one of a planned six chapters, though if you guys really want me to, I can extend it. comments about how to improve this style of writing are very appreciated.
on a different note, my first One Piece fic went up! exited for all the wonderful responses I got to my other stories. thanks, and signing off.
