A boy was walking down a street towards the giant dome that was in the distance. The boy had natural blonde hair that went to his shoulders, but was styled in a slick-backed style. He also had black eyes that resembled that of darkness, and other than that, he was anything but ordinary. He was extremely tall, being 6'8 inches tall, and everyone that he passed stared at him in surprise. He wore a simple cream-coloured cardigan and black jean pants. On his arm was a customised duel disk, which was a black frame with white stripes colouring it along with red card slots.
This was Evan Richards, an underground pro, although his true identity was hidden by Maximillion Pegasus himself.
Evan's pro career was a giant project for a different type of cards. You see, Maximillion Pegasus had already created cards like them before, but he didn't start making support for the archetype since Evan had shown interest when he was young.
Evan's father was one of Pegasus' personal friends, and had helped Pegasus in expanding the game overseas to Croatia, America, and Australia. This man was Chris Richards, a retired pro player.
Chris had brought his son to meet Pegasus at a young age, and Pegasus had taken an interest in the boy, who wasn't even interested in Duel Monsters at the time. Pegasus showed him how to duel, and gave the boy a challenge to a friendly duel, and to Pegasus' surprise, Evan beat him in under 4 turns. The thing that surprised Pegasus though was that the boy beat him with a pick-up deck, which was made with a bunch of different cards, but did have cards like Raigeki, Black Hole, and even Pegasus' Relinquished, but Evan didn't even use them.
"Let's duel, Evan-boy!" Pegasus said to the boy as he picked up a deck from the table.
"Why?"
"So I can see where you are at and what you need improved." He explained, making Evan nod as he picked up a bunch of different card packs from the cabinet within Pegasus' duel room.
"Very well." The young child said to himself as he opened all of the packs and didn't even look at it before he stacked them all in a single deck, making 40 cards.
"Let's duel!" Pegasus said as his duel disk activated as they stood across the room from each other.
DUEL
EVAN – 4000
PEGASUS – 4000
"Yeah…" Evan seemed to not care about what was happening as he picked up his 5 cards along with the man.
"I'll let you go first, Evan-boy!"
EVAN – 5 CARDS
"Very well then…" He said as he looked at his cards and remembered the descriptions that he was told. "Um… I guess that I'll start with placing my monster in defence position… And I'll place three cards facedown… Is that good?" He said as the cards appeared on the field.
PEGASUS – 6 CARDS
"Very nice, Evan-boy! Very nice, indeed…" He said quietly as he stared at his own hand. "First, I'll summon Toon Gemini Elf in attack mode!" Pegasus called out as the hologram of two elves appeared on the field. "Then I'll play three cards face down and end my turn."
Toon Gemini Elf – (LV 4) – EARTH – (1900/900)
"Unfortunately, I do not have Toon World, so my elves can't attack just yet, but next turn, your monster will be finished!"
EVAN – 3 CARDS
"I guess that is correct, since I flip summon my monster, Cyber Jar!" he called as the card flipped, revealing the machine.
Cyber Jar – (LV 3) – DARK – (900/900)
"And Cyber Jar's effect activates! When it is flip-summoned from defence position, it destroys every monster on the field!" He said as the jar's effect activated, making the two monsters burst into shards of light. "Now we both draw five cards from our deck, and if they are level 4 or below, they will be summoned to the field!" He explained as he and Pegasus drew 5 cards, and Evan placed 3 of those cards on the field. "Now, come to the field, Vorse Raider, Cybernetic Cyclopean, and Queen's Knight!" He yelled as the holograms of the three monsters appeared on the field.
Vorse Raider – (LV 4) – DARK – (1900/1200)
Cybernetic Cyclopean - (LV 4) - EARTH - (1400/200)
Queen's Knight – (LV 4) – LIGHT – (1500/1600)
Pegasus sweat-dropped as he drew a single monster card, and placed it on the field in defence position, not bothering to call out its name.
Toon Mermaid – (LV 4) – WATER – (1400/1500)
"Pegasus, this is your final turn!" He yelled at the man, his personality having completely changed from earlier. "I place two cards face down before I activate the Equip spell, Axe of Despair! And I'll equip it to Queen's Knight increasing her attack by one thousand points!"
Queen's Knight - (LV 4) – LIGHT – (2500/1600)
"Now, I'll activate Ring of Destruction and I'll use it on your Toon Mermaid!" The ring appeared on the mermaid's neck, and she screamed in pain before disappearing in an explosion, making Pegasus flinch, although Evan didn't even bat an eye.
EVAN – 2600
PEGASUS - 2600
"Now, I'm going to play my final card in my hand, Lucky Iron Axe and I'll equip it to Vorse Raider!" He called as the Vorse Raider now held a giant axe.
Vorse Raider – (LV 4) – DARK – (2400/1200)
"And now that my hand is empty, my Cybernetic Cyclopean's effect activates! When there are no cards in my hand, my monster gains one thousand attack!"
Cybernetic Cyclopean - (LV 4) - EARTH - (2400/200)
If Pegasus wasn't sweating before, he definitely was now. In front of him were three monsters, all with 2400 attack, and he only had one trap that could work, but he doubted it would, with how smart Evan has been playing this whole match, plus he was like a different person during the duel versus to how he was before this. Before, he seemed lazy and disinterested in Duel Monsters, but now he played like a pro player in the pro leagues.
"Now, my Vorse Raider will attack you directly!" He called as the monster nodded before running up to Pegasus, lifting up its axe in the process.
"Not so fast, Evan-boy! I play Mirror Force! I'm not sure if you know what this does, so I'll explain it. When you declare an attack, I can activate this card to destroy all of your face-up attack position monsters!" He explained as a force field appeared in front of Pegasus, but before Vorse Raider could hit the shield, Evan interrupted it.
"I should be saying not so fast, Pegasus! Because when you played that trap card, this allowed me to activate this card, Wiretap!" He called out, revealing the card, making Pegasus' eye widen. "I'm not sure if you know what this does, so I'll explain." He said with a smug tone. "Wiretap can only be activated when another Trap Card is activated, and when it is, this negates that card and it shuffles the card into the deck. So, your chance at a counter attack is now non-existent!" He called out, laughing like a maniac as a red electricity covered Mirror Force which negated it, and the card disappeared back into Pegasus' deck.
"Now, what was I saying? Oh yeah! Vorse Raider, attack him directly!" He yelled as the monster lifted the axe once more before slashing at the man, making him squeal in pain.
EVAN – 2600
PEGASUS - 1600
"And before you start crying, I'm going to put you out of your misery by sending Queen's Knight to attack you directly!"
The knight monster charged at Pegasus and lifted her own axe before slashing at Pegasus, as if cutting his head off. Pegasus fell down on his knees as he realized that he lost a game of duel monsters to a child.
EVAN – 2600
PEGASUS – 0000
WINNER – EVAN
"H-How… How could I lose?" He said to himself as he stared at the ceiling before he saw a figure coming into his vision, and his eyes turned and saw Evan leaving the room, a smirk on his face, and instantly, Pegasus knew that the boy had a future of his own.
After that, Evan explained to the man that he had Black Hole and a Mirror Force of his own facedown. This on its own made Pegasus want to train the boy, and train he did. There was even a time that Evan had stayed within Pegasus' manor for a duration of 6 weeks so he could try the Japanese Pro Leagues, and they were interviewed by reporters about the boy being his son, but he denied it. But, contrary to popular belief, Pegasus was actually a good person, and wasn't a creep like so many thought.
But he discarded those thoughts as he walked up the stairs to the registration area, and saw two ladies and a man sitting at a white table with a line in front of them. Deciding that he wouldn't be an elitist prick, he went into line, although a few people had moved out of his way, intimidated by his stature. He did thank them as he moved up in line.
After a while, it was his turn to sign up. The man, seemingly on auto-pilot, said in a blank voice, "Name and Written Examinee Registration, please…"
"Evan Richards, 6940." He said like a robot with a deep and gruff voice, scaring the man, as he looked up, and was instantly intimidated by his stature, but quickly played it off, meanwhile the 2 ladies weren't so good.
'Wow, he's hot…'
'Is he seriously fifteen?'
The man wrote his name down before directing him to the entrance to the giant dome-like arena. Evan followed his instructions as he walked into the entrance, minding his head as the entrance lead into a long tunnel, and outside of the tunnel, was the arena.
In the arena, there was over a thousand spectator seats, and they were filled with potential students and already existing students that came from prep-school to check out the competition. He saw multiple duels going on, but he didn't mind that as he took one of his seats in the front row, making many students stare at him as he passed. Just as he sat down, he relaxed and crossed one leg over the other and placed his chin in his palm, making many females swoon, even one of the proctors.
As he was watching, he saw one of the kids lose, and he wondered how those kinds of kids even got past the written exam, as he knew the proctor's deck was pretty bad compared to normal decks.
Just as he watched that kid, he felt someone sit next to him, and he raised his eyebrow when he saw it was a girl sitting next to him. She had long pink hair that went to the bottom of her back, and had bangs that framed her face and went to her breasts. Her face was quite pretty, having a set of beautiful amber eyes that were large and made her seem innocent. Her facial expression was that of a blank stare, but even through that, he could tell that she was quite beautiful. She was wearing what seemed to be royal clothes, which resembled a pink and white dress along with a rose choker.
He stared at her with curious eyes, but from what he could tell, she was a very straightforward person, and he liked that. "Name?" Evan asked out of nowhere, and as he expected, the girl didn't even look at him before answering.
"Euliya Sumeragi. You?"
"Evan Richards." He didn't to say more, as she seemed to recognize the name.
"A foreigner, huh? Are you perhaps related to Chris Richards?"
"Yes. He's my father." He said, and silence befell them, before they turned to each other and stared at each other before they reached their hands to the other and shook their hands, showing a newly made friendship. "I reckon that we'll be great friends, Sumeragi-san." He said bluntly, and she nodded.
"As do I, Evan-san. But please refer to me as Euliya. Sumeragi isn't a name I carry around with pride." She said simply as Evan nodded, and didn't go into it any further, as they both turned to the duel. But Euliya was slightly distracted as she heard the giggling of girls behind her, seemingly pointed at her, and her eyes hardened.
"Evan Richards, Examinee No. 6940. Please report to the field in five minutes." A mechanical voice called out on the speakers, and Evan nodded to himself before he turned to his newly-made friend.
"Euliya-san, should I go all out, or should I go easy on the poor proctor?"
"Why are you asking me?"
"I wish only a second opinion, mainly one from a friend." He said as he pulled out two decks, which one was greatly larger than the other one.
Deciding that the bigger one was his deck that he went all-out with, she picked that, and he nodded before placing his smaller deck in the holster in his jacket.
"Thanks for the choice, Euliya-san." He slightly bowed to her before he left the area, probably to go the where he was meant to be.
After he left, Euliya glance up behind her and saw the sight of three girls giggling, and they all were staring at her with evil grins on their faces. She sighed before she got up out of her seat before going up the stairs to the girls.
"Next match. Evan Richards vs. Proctor Lioside."
The same mechanical voice as earlier called out as Evan was lifted onto the duel field from the rising platform, and found himself facing the proctor, who was wearing the standard uniform for proctors, which was a purple like blazer and pants, although he had sunglasses on, concealing his eyes.
"Are you ready, kid?" The proctor said to him, and he nodded as they walked to each other, and started shuffling each other's deck, and Lioside was surprised at the size of the deck. "How many cards are in this deck, kid?" he asked while shuffling, and without missing a beat, the boy answered.
"Fifty-five…" he answered, which confused the man, as the deck looked much larger than that.
Once they finished shuffling the other's deck, they stood across from each other, and their duel disks activated, and Lioside was surprised when he saw the kid's customised duel disk, as did many other students.
"Duel!"
"Duel…" Evan seemed disinterested, but drew his five cards anyway.
DUEL
LIOSIDE – 4000
EVAN – 4000
LIOSIDE – 5 CARDS
"I'll be going first! First I summon Giant Soldier of Stone in defence mode! Next I'll set one card face down and I'll end my turn!"
Giant Soldier of Stone – (LV 3) – EARTH – (1300/2000)
EVAN – 6 CARDS
"Very well… He looked at his hand before he smirked. "First, I'll summon Queen's Knight in attack position, and then I'll play Mystical Space Typhoon and the card I'll destroy is your face down!" He said as a storm appeared above Lioside before a lightning bolt struck the face down, revealing Draining Shield. "Now, I'll play Graceful Charity, which lets me draw three cards before I have to discard two." He explained as he drew three cards, smirking to himself.
He then discarded two cards, not showing what cards he discarded before he continued. "Now, I'll play the spell card, Double Summon, which lets me conduct a second normal summon this turn! Now I'll summon my King's Knight to the field, and you should know what happens when the king and queen are on the field together. If you don't, I'll explain!"
King's Knight – (LV 4) – LIGHT – (1600/1400)
"When King's Knight is normal summoned when Queen's Knight is on the field, I'll be able to special summon a Jack's Knight from my deck! Now, come forth! Jack's Knight!" He called as he slammed another card on his duel disk, and the hologram of a blue knight appeared.
Jack's Knight – (LV 5) – LIGHT – (1900/1000)
"Lioside-san… Do you like winning?" He asked the man, confusing him.
"Yes...? I'm sure everyone does… Why?"
"Well, let me tell you… I don't really like winning… But one thing that I hate is losing! And that's exactly what you're going to do! Now, I'll use my spell card, Premature Burial! And by paying 800 life points, I can special summon a monster from my graveyard, and I choose to special summon a monster I discarded earlier which will help me win, and that monster is Tribe-Infecting Virus!" He called as the hologram of multiple dying amphibian-like monsters appeared.
LIOSIDE – 4000
EVAN - 3200
Tribe-Infecting Virus – (LV 4) – WATER – (1600/1000)
"Why would that help you? It only has 1600 attack!" Lioside said with a smirk, but his face fell when Evan laughed loudly.
"You'd think I'd be dumb enough to only have a monster with 1600 attack and call it my saviour? My new monster's effect activates! By discarding one card from my hand, and by declaring a monster type, I can destroy all monsters of the declared type on the field! And guess what? I choose Rock!" he declared as the monster secreted germ-like spores from its body, going towards the enemy monster, making it decay and crumble.
"Now, everyone, win this duel!" He called as the Knight's all nodded before charging at Lioside in unison, and all slashed him at the same time, instantly depleting his life points, and winning Evan the duel.
LIOSIDE – 0
EVAN – 3200
WINNER – EVAN
"And that's all there is to it!" Evan declared as he turned his back, the platform lowering to the area he was in earlier.
"Wow… In only one turn, he beat me, huh? Well, I guess that's expected… I am pretty weak after all…" He said with no thoughts in his head as he watched the massive figure disappear into the ground.
When Evan returned to the stands, he found that Euliya was nowhere to be found, but he shrugged as he sat down again and crossed his legs again before he heard the laughter of girls in the tunnelway that entered into the arena, and he didn't like the intention that those giggles entailed, so he quickly got up from his seat and when back towards the entrance, and was shocked at what he saw.
He saw a lone and still body of a single girl sitting in the middle of the hall with her back to the wall. As he walked closer, he saw her with bruises and a small but deep cut on her forehead that bled quite a lot. Because of the darkness of the hall, he couldn't see the girls features but when he walked closer, he saw the familiar pink hair of his new friend. His face instantly dropped as his lips curled back into a scarl, seeing the damage that was done on the poor girl's figure. He didn't know how long she had been suffering like that, but judging from the bruises he saw on her stomach and even a small burn mark on her collar bone, he figured that it was for a while.
"Evan-san…" Euliya weakly called out, and Evan was immediately by her side, gently lifting her upper body up so she can talk to him easier. "Thank you, Evan-san…"
"It was no problem, Euliya-san… Anything for a friend of mine…" He said, and she smiled gently.
"So… Nice…" She said weakly before he saw her eyes closed, and he knew she was breathing, so he figured that she just passed out.
Deciding it would be best to treat her for her injuries, he gently picked her up bridal style and started to bring her to the nurse's office that was located in the building, even if there wasn't supposed to be one in there. He gently laid her down on the bed, and gently pulled her shirt up just enough to show her stomach, and saw the massive bruises that were there, along with bleeding.
He grabbed the first-aid kit out of the closet and started to work with what he knew about first-aid.
.
.
He silently finished bandaging the girl, and saw the bandages he wrapped around her stomach and her head, and sighed in relief when he saw that they were tight and secure, and put the first-aid kit back in the closet before he silently grabbed a piece of paper out of the drawer near him and started writing on it with a pen he found before. Once he was done he set the paper down next to the girl's form and silently left the room, just in time to see a duel between a kuriboh-haired kid and the infamous Dr. Crowler. He saw the kid use Elemental Hero Flame Wingman to destroy Crowler's ultra-rare card, Ancient Gear Golem, boosted by Skyscraper, winning him the duel.
He smirked, realizing that there was actually some competition, as he's seen some useful Elemental Hero decks, and they're pretty good when used right.
Knowing that he'd be given the results of his testing later on, he started to leave the arena, but not before he and the kuriboh-haired boy's eyes met while he was celebrating, and Evan smiled to him, and he smiled widely before Evan left, minding his head again.
He went home that day knowing that he was going to get a good result in his ranking, and he loved every moment of it…
Once Euliya got home that day, she instantly went to go and have a shower, undressing from her bloodied clothes as she thinks about the events that transpired today. Her thoughts transferred to the boy that she had met recently and made a friend out of. As she was thinking that, a small piece of paper had fallen out of her dress while undressing. Curious, she picked up the piece of paper and smiled at the contents.
'xxx-xxxx-xxxx
It's my number. Call me when you're in trouble.
-Evan'
As she smiled at the contents of the paper, a small and almost unrecognizable blush appeared on her face while thinking of the boy and how he had helped her to the infirmary and even patched her up. She held the paper close to her naked chest, resting it against her bandages before placing it down and completely undressing before turning on the tap of water, thinking about the handsome male.
'He's so nice... I might use that number more then I thought I ever would.'
