A/N This is the end of the miniature engine deaths, but next month, I go back to Skarloey and NWR deathfics.
One day, Mike had a dreadful accident. He was taken to the Steamworks and pronounced DOA. The little engine's friends were called there for a meeting. The miniature diesels came and any bigger friends of the Arlesdale engines, like Thomas, were there as well.
Fergus Duncan, the miniature engines' controller said, "Mike's gone. He died from his dreadful accident.". He pulled out a handkerchief and dapped his tears away. Mike's crew sniffed and sobbed into handkerchiefs, broken by the loss of their engine. Mike's friends, like the miniature diesels, including Alistaire and Alex, were in tears as they pressed buffers, comforted by their drivers. Thomas, in a buffer press with Edward, as his driver pressed a cloth to his eyes, gave a tearful speech.
Through wailing sobs and sniffles, the tank engine said, "M-Mike's l-loss br-breaks m-my h-heart. H-He w-was ou-our fr-friend, th-though h-he w-was a -a cr-crosspatch, h-he w-was l-loyal a-and a-a R-Really U-Useful E-Engine. I-I m-miss h-him dr-dreadfully, n-now th-that h-he's g-gone t-to Th-The B-Big R-Railway I-In th-the Sk-Sky. W-We sh-shall gr-grieve, b-but w-we m-must c-carry o-on a-and b-be R-Really U-Useful. I-I'm br-broken, b-but h-he w-would w-want u-us t-to.". He went on weeping and wailing his broken heart out, huge tears pouring from his eyes, not once stopping until he had no more to shed because he was an emotional wreck. His crew gave him a drink when the meeting was breaking up and he left with the other engines.
The Arlesdale Railway was closed to allow the engines time to grieve and have a memorial service for Mike. It was held in Arlebourgh, so all his engine friends could be there. Thomas was there, with Edward for buffers to press. The tank engine wailed with grief, his driver drying his tears.
The railway reopened and a little diesel, Susan came. She was quiet, loyal, practical and dutiful. Though she had deep emotions, she preferred to bottle up her feelings, if possible. The first time she cried was when she saw another engine on the railway that built her in pain, which combined with the times she suppressed her tears was too much and she sobbed quietly when she got back to her shed. "I've got watery eyes", she sniffled. "Why?"
Susan's driver comforted his engine. "There, there, Susan," he said, taking a cloth from his pocket to dry her tears. "You're crying. You've got emotions and just need to let it all out. I shall wipe away your tears." He listened attentively to his engine to pick up on her cues and tried to understand how she was feeling. "Just cry and let the feelings show, so you can feel better. When I get overwhelmed by my powerful emotions, I just cry, then after I dry my eyes, make myself a meal or create some art, write a song or create a work of art to express my feelings. You've got my support, as long as you're in pain.".
After Susan came to Sodor, Mike's friends recovered from their grief as much as they were able and life took on a more normal rhythm for a while. Jock eventually died, along with Olivia and her friend. As with Mike's friends after his death, their respective friends recovered as best they could.
A/N Jock, Olivia and her friend are characters not close enough to Thomas or I don't know enough about to create full deathfics for them. I can't seem to create a deathfic without being able to have him give a speech, if it's a Sodor engine, but a reader wanted me to mention them. If Edward wasn't close to the miniature engines, he's just there for Thomas. My FanFiction buddy personality typed him, in the latter's case, as a type that can be emotional wreck when in grief.
