When Dean woke in the morning he was flat on his back and pinned down by Crowleys weight across his chest. His face was tucked into Deans neck and a small puddle of drool had collected on his shoulder. Cas was still tucked into Deans side, he was lightly clutching Crowleys tail and his little wings were twitching and tickling Deans arm as he slept.
Dean allowed himself a few seconds to think about how nice this would have been, waking up with two babies snuggled close, if his life had taken a different turn, but it hadn't and he was cuddling two shrunk down celestials in a hidden underground bunker, while trying to find a way to fight Gods sister. All this was hammered home when there was a quiet rumble and the room filled with the smell of sulphur emitting from Crowleys diaper.
Dean sighed and ran his hand down his face. He looked down to see Crowley staring up at him with his disconcerting red eyes.
"Really? This is how you decided to start the morning? You couldn't have waited for Sam?" He asked.
Crowley gave an admittedly adorable giggle and pushed away from Dean.
"Don't sit down!" Dean protested. "Ugh! Now it's gonna be all squished in!"
Crowley giggled again and wriggled along on his belly until he reached the edge of the mattress then stood and made a break for the door.
"Alright, let's do this." Dean sighed again and carefully extracted himself from the still sleeping Castiels side.
He climbed from the mattress and caught Crowley by the door, then carried him to the makeshift changing table. After putting on the gas mask he kept in the drawer for just this purpose, he quickly dealt with the dirty diaper and then gave Crowley a perfunctory wipe down with a few clean baby wipes, checked the progress of his emerging horns, then set him on the floor. He looked over at Cas, still asleep on the mattress.
"Hmm, don't really want to leave him alone, but you're gonna want food." Dean said looking down at Crowley. "Let's go see if Sam's awake."
Crowley nodded then walked over to the door and slapped his palm against it a few times.
"Yeah, yeah, hold your horses. Sheesh, anyone would think we never fed you." Dean mumbled as he opened the door to let Crowley out.
Dean followed the demon down the hall, smiling at the way Crowley bobbled erratically as his little body tried to shake of the lingering effects of sleep and become coordinated again.
"Sammy? You up?" Dean called as they shuffled to the kitchen and Dean helped Crowley down the steps. Only silence Followed. "Okay, so he's either still asleep or out running."
Dean looked down at Crowley.
"Yeah I don't understand it either." Dean shrugged them began to look around the kitchen for something he could make Crowley for breakfast quickly so they could go back and watch Cas. He was halfway through making some toast when Cas appeared at the kitchen door, yawning widely and rubbing his eye. His hair was a mess and it looked like he had dragged a blanket down with him.
"Hey buddy, did you sleep well?" Dean asked.
Cas nodded then let go of the corner of the blanket, letting it drop to the ground before he curled up in it and closed his eyes again.
"Aww, did you miss us that much?" Dean chuckled and grabbed at the toast that jumped out of the toaster. "Hot! Hot bread!" He said as he juggled it down to the plate on the counter.
After buttering and spreading some jam and peanut butter onto the slices, Dean helped Crowley back up the steps and stopped by Cas.
"Hey Cas, are you awake?" He asked looking down at the curled up angel.
Cas nodded but didn't open his eyes.
"Okay, do you want some breakfast?"
Cas nodded again then pushed himself up and followed along behind Dean and Crowley to the library. Dean clipped each boy into their chairs and put some toast in front of them.
"Now, stay there and I'll get you some milk." Dean said and hurried into the kitchen to quickly fill their cups and rushed back. He was always concerned one of them would manage to topple their chairs over if he left them unattended too long.
That being the case he decided to wait until Sam made an appearance to make himself a coffee or something to eat, so he made do with stealing little bits of toast from Cas and Crowleys plates and sipping a little milk from Castiels cup.
They were just finishing their meal when Sam came down the stairs leading from the front door.
"Morning Dean. Did you have a good night with these two?" Sam asked leaning over Castiels shoulder and picking up a crust. He looked at it then dropped it back on the plate.
"Yeah, it was fine. Crowley was a bit grizzly but Cas here fixed him right up." Dean reached across and ruffled Castiels hair, causing the angel to push his hand away and grumble a bit.
Dean chuckled and began to unbuckle Cas to let him down.
"How are Crowleys horns? Through yet?" Sam asked as he released said demon form his chair.
"Almost through. Another day or two I'm guessing."
Sam carefully checked Crowleys hand for himself then put the small dude on the ground.
"Okay, I'm going for a shower, you good with these two?" Sam asked.
"Haven't killed them yet." Dean answered waving Sam away.
Sam rolled his eyes and left the room to get showered and changed.
…
Their routine stayed pretty much the same for the next few days. Watching the mini celestials, searching for ways to stop Amara and trying to figure out how to reverse the curse, all to varying degrees of success.
Crowley remaking sad and miserable until his horns finally broke through. Unfortunately his attitude emerged along with his new horns! He began snarking at Dean and Sam whenever he was told not to do something. Grumbling along and shaking one pudgy finger at them then crossing his arms over his chest in a cute and not at all intimidating mimic of the giants towering over him. He also began to pay Cas back for some of the aggressive love the angel had shown him earlier.
Their new game was climbing. Not on anything particular, just climbing on everything. This day they were playing on an overturned crate that Dean had pulled out for them to use as a table. Sam looked over and saw them sitting on it proudly.
"Hey guys, I think you should get off that before one of you gets hurt." He said.
Cas began to shuffle to the edge when Crowley looked Sam in the eye and shoved the Angel over the side. Cas disappeared in a flurry of flailing arms, legs and wings.
"Fergus No!" Sam yelled, startling the small demon slightly but otherwise unaffecting him. Crowley just smiled at Sam then looked over the side to where Cas was tangled amongst the toys. Sam sighed as he stood and walked over to Cas and picked him up. "I warned you didn't I?"
He cuddled the crying child and checked for bruises or scrapes. Once cleared of injuries, Sam took Cas into the kitchen and made them up a plate of fruit to eat. He filled their cups with water and carried the whole lot out into the library.
"There you go. Try not to make too much of a mess." Sam said putting the plate on the crate.
Cas grabbed a strawberry and some blueberries and sat down to eat. Crowley took one look at the offering and swiped the whole thing off the makeshift table.
"You know what? I don't care, you can eat it from the floor." Sam said with an air of resignation, so that's exactly what Crowley did, plopping down and helping himself to some slices of floor banana.
…
"I'm back!" Dean shouted as he emerged from the hallway that led to the garage.
"Hi, how was the hunt?" Sam asked.
"Complete milk run." Dean replied as he dropped his duffle on the table. "Where are the babies?"
"Oh they're…" Sam looked over at the abandoned pile of toys and food plates. "Somewhere about." He said with a shrug.
"What do you mean 'somewhere about' Sammy? Come on, didn't you learn anything from the last time you lost them?" Dean shouted.
"They're fine Dean. They're somewhere in the bunker and all the dangerous doors are locked." Sam reassured his brother while fiddling with his phone.
"How do you know? How do you know they're fine?" Dean demanded. "Cas could have blipped them anywhere!"
"Because I clipped a gps tracker to Fergus. They're in their room." Sam held out his phone to show Dean the little flashing dot that indicated the demons location.
"Hmm, that's pretty clever. Well, what about Cas? Do you know where he is? Why didn't you lo-Jack him."
"Cas is probably with him and because he's the least troublesome of the two I didn't see the point as they usually stick together anyway."
"Okay, well, I'm just going to go dump my stuff and check on them."
"Alright. Well, welcome back."
"Thanks. Hey, did you make any progress on the Amara thing?" Dean asked.
"Yeah some. I'll tell you about it when you get back."
"Cool, can't wait." Dean said with a sigh.
He picked up his duffle and walked down to his room, he dropped the bag by his door and then face planted on his mattress.
"I've missed you." He mumbled to his pillow but before he could close his eyes and truly relax he heard some sinister giggling from the room just down the hall. Remembering that the two minor beings were unsupervised, Dean pushed up from his bed and walked down to see what they were doing. He turned into the door way and…
"Sammy!l
…
Sam rushed down the hallway to his brothers side and looked into the room Cas and Crowley had been using. The sight that meet him was horrifying and he had a brief instinct to run.
"How in the hall did they get honey?" Dean demanded.
"Well…Cas was playing with the bottle, I think he liked the bear shape and I must have left it there when I changed them after breakfast." Sam explained looking down at the Angel and demon sitting on a floor in a puddle of sticky honey.
"And you just let him have it?" Dean asked incredulous.
"I didn't think he'd be able to open it." Sam said sheepishly.
"They're babies Sam! They are inherently evil! They steal your sleep, your food, your energy, babies are practically tiny little succubuses, and that one," he ranted pointing to Crowley who was licking honey off his arm, "is an actual demon, so of course they can open a twisty top honey!"
"I'm sorry! I didn't think!"
"No shit you didn't think! You take that one, I'll get this one." Dean huffed and carefully walked through the honey puddles to pick up Crowley.
Holding the little dragon at arms length, Dean made his way to the bathroom, followed by Sam and Cas. They sat the sticky twosome down on a towel while Dean began to fill the bath.
"Alright, I'll deal with these two, you go clean the mess in the bedroom." Dean said to Sam.
"Or, or, now hear me out with this, I wash these two and you go clean the room." Sam countered.
"Nuh-uh. You let them redecorate with the honey, you get to clean it up." Dean said, trying to remove the sticky, now empty, honey bottle from Castiels hand.
Sam groaned but gave up on the argument and ,eft the bathroom.
"Make sure you use hot water and lots of soap!" Dean yelled out to him.
"Yeah, yeah."
Dean looked down at Castiel and Crowley.
"Well, you two sure know how to have fun, don't you." He huffed and knelt down in front of the toddlers, slightly grateful that they were too busy licking the honey of themselves to try and run away.
He carefully undressed them and placed the sticky clothing on another towel to take to the laundry later. When the bath was deep enough he carefully lifted Cas, then Crowley into the water. He managed to wrangle the bear shaped plastic bottle out of Castiels hands and rinsed it under the tap in the sink and gave it back to Castiel to play with. He showed him how to draw the water into the bottle then squeeze it out again and that managed to keep the little Angel occupied until Dean managed to gently scrub all the sticky honey out of his wings.
Thirty minutes and a change of bath water later, the mini celestials were wrinkly, but clean. Dean wrapped them in big towels and carried them both down the hall to their room to get diapers and clothes. Sam was on his knees scrubbing at the desk they use as a changing station. The floor looked clean and the mattresses had been stripped of the linen.
"They got it behind the dresser!" Sam grumbled. "How? How did they get it there?"
"Babies, Sam. They defy logic." Dean just shrugged as he carefully put the babies down to retrieve their clothing. "Come on guys, we'll go dress you in my room."
Cas and Crowley carefully toddled along behind Dean, occasionally tripping on their towels, until they reached Deans room. He picked them up and dropped them on his bed, then began to dry and dress them. Once they were dressed, Dean let Crowley investigate his room while he sat with Cas on the bed and began to groom his little wings, straightening and smoothing out the feathers. Cas gave a little shudder as Deans fingers moved through the appendages.
"Tickles does it?" He asked.
Cas nodded and giggled a little.
Soon enough Dean deemed Cas' wings perfect and left the two in Sam's care while he went to deal with the sticky laundry. When he returned he found Sam leaning against the door of the library watching Cas and Crowley playing together, holding what looked to be a serious conversation in their own babbling language.
"You know, I think I'm actually going to miss this when the spell wears off." Sam said watching the two.
"Yeah, I know what you mean. This has been pretty cool." Dean agreed.
"I think I've aged ten years, and it'll be good not having to save Fergus from falling down the steps every day, but…" Sam just shrugged.
"I get it little bro." Dean clapped Sam on the shoulder.
He did get it. This was the life they should have had if demons hadn't messed everything up. Just two brothers, chilling, watching their kids play together. Deans heart hurt a little for what they had missed out on. Especially for Sam, who had, for just a few years, managed to live a normal, supernatural free life.
Dean looked at his brother. He'd have made a great dad, and maybe, if they survived this whole Amara mess, Dean might be able to convince Sam to go and try to find someone to settle down with and start a family. There was that hunter, Eileen, they seemed to have a spark between them, plus she was already in the life so it wouldn't be awkward to try and explain all the weapons and occultish books and blood soaked clothing.
Dean looked back at the small celestials a small smile on his lips. That was a nice dream, and one he will keep a hold of. Cas and Crowley continued to play. Cas was tapping his bear bottle on the ground when he yawned widely and rubbed his eye with his free hand.
"Guess we had better get these guys down for a nap." Sam said.
"Yeah, guess we should."
