Outback

Thomas and Chilli were diving down a dirt road. The two were late leaving their hotel as they went on a stepmom and stepson trip across the country of Australia. Bandit and the girls were waiting in Sydney as the flew ahead. Bandit really didn't like his son and wife driving alone in harsh parts of Australia but since Thomas was already twenty six years old and had been a police officer for some time and carried a gun for his own safety, Bandit felt better of them going alone. Chilli looks at the map that they had bought from the gas station before heading out while Thomas drove.

"Hey mom?" Thomas asked while driving. "Yes sweetheart?" Chilli asked while looking at the map. "Are you and dad okay?" Thomas asked a little worried for his parents. "Yeah? Why?" Chilli asked, looking at her stepson. "You guys just seem off for a little bit," Thomas confessed. "Oh, don't worry about it, your dads just worried about us going out here alone," Chilli said reassuring her son. "I wish he would trust me more since well, I've been a cop since I turned twenty," Thomas said while driving. "I know sweetheart but if we both know your dad," Chilli said, putting down the map. "Years of experience takes time," They both said with a laugh. "But this is nice though," Thomas said with a smile. "It sure is," Chilli said with a smile as she looked out the window.

"Oh! This is our turn," Chilli said pointing at turn off. Thomas slowed down the car and looked at the turn. "Are you sure? This looks like it's off the path," Thomas said looking at the path. "It's a little short cut, we should be fine," Chilli said with confidence. "Alright, Mum. I'm trusting you." Thomas replied as he took the left turn. Little did the mother and son duo realize that this set a chain of events that would transpire within the next few moments of their lives. The road the rough but Thomas could handle it.

As he continued to drive, it became clear that they were no longer on a path that resembled a road, "Okay, what is this? Mum, check the map. Are we going the right way?" Thomas asked, looking over at his stepmother with a raised eyebrow before looking back at the path ahead of them. "It should be another mile or two... keep going straight through that field by that lake," Chilli said. Thomas nodded as he went where his stepmom had said. Suddenly there were kangaroos jumping around. "Oh the kangaroos are out!" Chilli said as she watched them. Suddenly a kangaroo got to close and jump in front of the car and Thomas hit and ran over.

Oh man!" Thomas said as he looked over at his stepmother, "Mum, are you okay?" He asked before Chilli nodded her head, "Yes honey, I'm fine." She replied before looking out Thomas' window. "You think that Kangaroo is alright?" She asked, seeing the Kangaroo's body laying on the shore near a lake. "I don't know, I'll go check." Thomas replied before unbuckling his seatbelt to go check on the large animal.

"Be careful, Thomas!" Chilli called out to him, "Don't worry, Mum. This isn't the first time I've had to deal with animals hit by cars." Thomas replied as he walked towards the limp Kangaroo that lied limp on the shore near the water. "Jeez... I really hit you hard, didn't I?" He asked as he noticed how far he had sent the Kangaroo when he hit it.

As Thomas got closer to check on it, he then noticed something in the water from the corner of his eye. It looked like a large log before squinting, trying to get a better look at the object before his eyes widened. The Heeler-Husky quickly dived out of the way as a large Crocodile pounced out of the water, its jaws nearly grabbing him before slamming down on the dead body of the Kangaroo

"Holy shit!" Thomas shouted as he fell backwardsThomas turned and tried to run back towards the car before he suddenly tripped. He turned his head to see the huge Saltwater Crocodile swallow the body of the Kangaroo without even having to rip it apart to eat it., the largest crocodile Thomas has ever seen then set its sights on the blue furred Heeler-Husky mix. "Thomas!" Chilli shouted, fearful of her son's life.

The sounds of his mother's voice snapped Thomas out of his thoughts before he got back up and ran towards the car where Chilli was waiting for him. The car door slammed as Thomas got back in and put his seatbelt back on before quickly stepping on the gas pedal to get as far away from the freakishly huge Crocodile. With the hard terrain, the back is true, then popped and made the car lose control.

"Shit!" Thomas exclaimed as he quickly stepped on the break, pulled over to the side to go out to check the tire, and see what else the damage was."Damn it!" Thomas shouted, looking at it. "Thomas! Watch out!" Chilli shouted. Thomas turned his head before his eyes widened in horror as the monster crocodile was galloping towards him, the ground shaking with each step it took. Before he could fall victim to the Crocodile's jaws, Thomas jumped out of the way as the beast clamped his jaws down on the back bumper of the car.

Thomas turned, and his eyes widened in horror as the monster crocodile was galloping towards him, the ground shaking with each step it took. Before he could fall victim to the Crocodile's jaws, Thomas jumped out of the way as the beast clamped his jaws down on the back bumper of the car. "Thomas! Get in the car!" Chilli shouted in fear as tears ran down her cheeks. Thomas quickly got up and got into the car and closed the door as the crocodile tore the back bumper off the car.

"Are you okay, honey?" Chilli asked as she started looking at him and touching to make sure her stepson wasn't hurt. "I-I'm okay, Mum. Just really shook up... that thing is huge!" Thomas replied as he swallowed a lump in his throat before looking behind them as the crocodile threw the bumper that it had torn off the car against a tree. Chilli then hugged her son tightly as she continued to cry.

"Oh my baby." She said as she held him close to her chest. "Mom, it's okay. It didn't get me, and as long as we're in the car, that crocodile can't get to either of us." Thomas said as he patted his mother's arm to try and ensure her that he was okay.

Thomas said as he patted his mother's arm to try and ensure her that he was okay. "I'm sorry," Chilli said looking at her son and making sure he was okay again. "Why are you sorry?" Thomas asked as he looked at his mother with a confused look."I'm just scared baby," Chilli said with tears in her eyes.

"I know, I am too. But we need to think of a way to get out of this." Thomas replied as he placed a hand on his mother's cheek. Chilli nodded as she looked out the window and noticed the crocodile still lurking by the car. "Do you have your gun?" Chilli asked looking at her son. Thomas nodded his head as he looked in the glove compartment to reveal his police issue handgun. "If I have too I'll kill it," Thomas said.

"What?! Thomas, are you crazy?!" Chilli said as she grabbed him by his arm, "That won't be enough to kill that thing!" She said as she tried to stop her son from doing something reckless. "It's our only shot mom," Thomas said as he looked at his step mother and then back at the large crocodile outside waiting for them. A growl bellowed from the large crocodilian's throat as it stared at Thomas, ready to attack. "Take this you son of a bitch!" Thomas said as he pointed his gun at the large reptile. The large Crocodile pounced and began to charge at the Blue Heeler-Husky mix before Thomas fired his handgun. The bullet managed to hit the Crocodile's head only for it to continue charging at its potential next meal.

"Shit!" Thomas exclaimed as he held his mother close to him, "I think I only managed to piss it off!" He said as the jeep shook. The crocodile hissed while it kept trying to get at them. "Oh man... I don't know what we're gonna do..." Thomas said before him and his mother felt the jeep began to move. The mother and son duo looked to see the crocodile dragging the jeep toward the water. "He's going to drown us!" Chilli shouted. "We need to get out and run!" Thomas said as him and his mother tried to open the doors to the jeep only to find them jammed. "Shit," Thomas said as the jeep started to get into the water. "Mom! Get to the back!" Thomas ordered.

Chilli did as her son instructed and made they both made their way to the back of the jeep before it began to be submerged in the water. Thomas then pointed his gun towards the back window and shot it The window burst open and water soon began to fill the car before Chilli and Thomas began to swim. Suddenly, Thomas pushed his mother aside as the crocodile swam straight at them before wedging itself in the jeep. The pair watched as it struggled before they swam to the surface. Once they reached the surface Thomas helped his stepmother get to shore. Thomas and Chilli sat there on the beach, coughing up water that they had inhaled. "M-Mom... are... are you okay?" He asked, looking over at her.

Chilli coughed up water and then looked at her son. "Yeah, I'm okay baby," Chilli said breaking heavily. Thomas looked at the water to see the bubbles rising to the surface before they ceased, "Looks like we don't have to worry about that thing anymore." Thomas said with a smile as he walked over to help his stepmother to her feet. Just as it seem to be over the large crocodile emerged out of the water and grabbed Thomas's leg.

Chilli watched in horror as her stepson screamed in agony before she saw his handgun on the ground. She reached for it before she grabbed it and shot the crocodile in the eye, resulting in it letting go of Thomas. She then ran over and stuck the barrel of the gun in the hole where its eye used to be before she continued to pull the trigger and let out a scream of rage.

The crocodile soon fell to the ground, its body now limp. Thomas sat there on the ground, staring at the now dead beast before looking up at his stepmother, who was still pulling the trigger of his handgun, which was now empty of bullets. "Mom... mom... MOM!" Thomas shouted. Chilli's lowered the handgun before running over to her son and hugging him close to her chest, "Oh Thomas, my baby... I'm so sorry..." she said tears fell from her eyes.

"Mom, it's over, it's over," Thomas said hugging her tightly. "I..." Before Chilli could say anything, she heard her phone buzzing. She looked it out of her pocket. Thankfully, she had gotten a waterproof case for it prior to taking this trip. Chilli looked at her phone thankfully there was service in the area. "Hello?" Chilli asked as she tended to Thomas, "Hey babe, it's me." The familiar voice of her husband Bandit replied, not knowing of the horrors his wife and son had just endured.

"Bandit!" Chilli burst into tears. "Chilli, what's wrong?" Bandit asked before his wife explained everything that had happened to them, "Okay, listen. I'm calling 000, is Thomas okay?" He asked, trying to remain calm for the sake of his and Chilli's young daughters. "He's okay I think he has a broken leg," Chilli said "Okay, you both sit tight. I'll be sure to send your location so they'll know where to find you. I love you both so much." Bandit said with a soft smile.

"Thank you," Chilli said trying not to break down. "Mom, I'll be okay. What did Dad say?" Thomas asked as he grabbed his mother's hand. "He's getting us help baby," Chilli said looking at her step son. "That's good..." Thomas replied with a soft smile before looking over at the dead crocodile, "You really killed that thing, Mom." He said with a chuckle. "I sure did," Chilli replied as they now heard sirens heading their way. Soon, Thomas and Chilli were loaded into an ambulance before they were taken to the hospital.

As the ambulance drove off, in some tall grass by the pond. A clutch of eggs were beginning to hatch…
