"I love you."
Lucy looked up at the raven haired man with the best smile she could. She took his hand and hers and leaned against his chest, "I love you more."
She felt his arms wrap around her one last time before she heard the door shut. Silence filled her apartment and without saying a word, she walked towards her bathroom.
She completed her usual nightly routine: taking an extra hot shower and drinking some tea before settling in bed to finish her latest reading obsession.
As she was finishing up a chapter, her thoughts flicked back to Gray, her boyfriend of two months. In theory, he was perfect. Handsome, considerate, the person who was willing to run 100 miles for her, a true gentleman…
But he wasn't him.
At that thought her face scrunched up in dismay and she averted her eyes to the night sky. She couldn't help but wonder how he was doing, her first love. Was he thinking about her too?
Of course, Lucy adored Gray and she was genuinely thankful to have met him, but there are some things that you cannot get rid of. Like the thought of a certain salmon haired man.
When she closed her eyes, she could still envision his face even though it's been more than a year. She could faintly hear his voice talking to her, the warmth of his hug, and if she tried hard enough, she could smell the earthy warmth of his skin.
Only a few months before, she had reached out to him in hopes of reconnecting. She needed familiarity. She needed him.
But he wasn't hers anymore.
He was with someone better, prettier, an overall perfect match for him and she was just left alone to ponder what could have been. Her heart had been shattered on the floor and she was left to sweep up the pieces and forced to leave the comforting home of what was once their connection. Her heart still hurts at the thought of him, but even if she's bitter, she's happy he's happy.
Deep down, her heart is screaming that it's not over between them, it can't be. But her brain knows; he's never coming back.
Lucy slumps down in her bed, still staring at the stars. What she would give for Natsu to be here right now. She closes her eyes and pictures everything she's ever done wrong to him and she apologizes with her whole heart like he'll hear her. Like he'll call her and tell her that he needs her as much as she needs him.
She knows it's wrong, but she compares warm hands to the cold hands she had held a mere hour before. She immediately tries to eliminate the thought from her head. It's unfair, so so so unfair.
She knows it's wrong, but goddamnit he's her first love and she's damned to eternity for fucking that up. It hurts her in her heart that he is probably laying down next to another girl, holding her by the waist and looking at her with the love he once held for the blonde.
And she cries.
It isn't fair, none of it is, but she has to keep going. Gray loves her, he's a good man. Natsu doesn't care what she does anymore. He had closed her off a long time ago. Her heart knows when someone doesn't want her anymore. She knows in a situation like this, there is no more hope.
And yet, she closes her eyes, crying and wishing for him to appear. She whispers five words into the air, hoping it'll flow to him:
"Please come back to me."
He never does.
Oopsie daisy. Found this in my drafts and decided to post. Lemme know what you think.
