Chapter 1: Welcome to Yokai Academy
My name is Marcus Van Niklaus, and I am starting my first year of high school at Yokai Academy. I'm a bit nervous, I've never been around other monsters before besides my mother. Honestly, just being so far away from her and my father is nerve wracking enough to begin with.
"You look nervous kid…", the mysterious bus driver asked with cigar smoke coming out with each word.
"Yeah… this is going to be my first time around other monsters", I chuckled, trying to hide my nerves. The bus driver responded to my nervous chuckle with an ominous one of his own.
"You better be careful then kid", he said opening the bus door after bringing the vehicle to a stop, "because if you aren't… you won't make it to the first break." I let out an audible gulp of fear as I grabbed my bag before I got off the bus. I wasn't ready for what Yokai Academy looked like; it looked like a scene out of a horror movie. The trees leading to the school were black and leafless, their branches reaching out like claws. The school building itself looked more like an abandoned mansion than a high school, especially with the dark clouds in the sky. I turned to ask the bus driver a question, but the bus was already driving back through the tunnel disappearing into the darkness.
"Damn it…", I muttered myself as I realized I was alone. After gathering my nerves, I began walking down the dirt path. Walking down this path was brutal, I felt like the crows in the tree were watching me, like I was a prisoner being led to the gallows. Then, from behind me, I head the chime of a bike bell. Right as I turned around to see if someone was there, I got slammed into by a bike, with someone's head colliding with mine, making a loud crack as we fell to the ground. After that, everything went black as I felt blood begin to trickle down my face.
