Son of a (Spirit) Gun!
Of Dreams and Possessions
[Midoriya Residence - Musutafu, Japan (Nighttime)
POV: Midoriya Izuku]
"She looks so sad," Izuku noticed as he stared at the despondent naked girl who sat in his living room. He was so caught up by the sadness he saw in her eyes that he didn't even freak out by the naked factor. "Why does she feel so sad for me?"
Hinageshi leaned close to the girl, Tōru's, face and noticed something. "She hasn't slept, no she hasn't," Hinageshi revealed. "I wonder how long she's been awake for."
"It's only been a day, hasn't it?" Izuku asked.
Hinageshi shook her head. "Traveling from the Spirit World to the Human World feels instantaneous to us, but in humans, it's been two days since you've passed."
"Two days?!" Izuku exclaimed, unaware that the girl lifted her head slightly, her eyes drifting close. "I guess that explains a few things," Izuku murmured as he crossed his arms. "Is there any way we can help her sleep or ease her worries? I don't want her to be so…upset about what happened to me."
Hinageshi tilted her head in thought as she observed Tōru, who had fallen asleep. "There may be something we can do, that there may," Hinageshi revealed as she moved back from Tōru. "But before we can do that, she needs to sleep, that she does."
Izuku nodded and floated down to sit beside her. He noticed that Tōru shivered for a moment and then grew still. "Hinageshi?" Izuku began. "I know we have to wait for my egg to hatch, but in the meantime, what happens to my body? Does it start to decay or is it preserved?"
Hinageshi paused for a moment and then answered, "The moment you accepted the test, your heart began to beat again, which would have been just before arrived for your wake. It will be faint, but it'll be there."
"Oh! That's fantaaaaa—" Izuku's joyous expression faded into a look of dread. "Wait! You said it's been two days since I died, right?!"
Hinageshi nodded.
"That's not good!" Izuku exclaimed with horror, unaware of Tōru slowly turning her head in his direction. "On the third day of death, the body gets cremated! I have to warn someone not to destroy my body!"
"That does pose a problem, that it does," Hinageshi admitted with a curious frown.
"What's with the understated response?!" Izuku panicked. "How d-do I come back without a body to come back to?! What do I do?! How do I get someone to make sure my body isn't cremated?!" Izuku asked.
"That is a conundrum, that it is," Hinageshi murmured. She then snapped her fingers and exclaimed, "Ah! Bingo! I know what to do!"
"You do?!" Izuku gasped as he felt dizzy with relief.
Hinageshi nodded and said, "Your mother. She might be the key to helping you."
"Really? How?" Izuku asked.
"Spirits have the ability to converse with the living through their dreams," Hinageshi explained. "If we can find someone who is asleep and have you converse with them, they should be able to help with you. We must do it soon, however. Tonight will be the last time you could conceivably converse with those close to you."
"W-What? Why?" Izuku stammered.
"Well, the one taking the test cannot, in his test period, communicate with anyone close to him in the Human World through spiritual methods," Hinageshi explained with a serious expression. "This is the last day of communication. So, we better make it count."
"O-Oh…Well…" Izuku sighed, even more stressed than he was before. The only people he was close to was his mother. He would say Katsuki, but they admittedly never been close since he turned out to be Quirkless years ago, even with that outburst.
"Then let's hope Kaa-san is sleeping," Izuku said.
"That we should!" Hinageshi announced as she flew through the ceiling.
Izuku flew to the ceiling, only to stop and turn to Tōru. "Keep an eye on my body for me, please," Izuku softly requested. "I will be back shortly, that I will…."
Izuku turned back to the ceiling and hit his forehead with the side of his fist.
Great, he was sounding like her no—
"Don't go…"Tōru's soft voice floated into his ear.
Izuku paused and turned back around to face the sleeping girl. "D-Did you…talk to me?" Izuku asked as he pointed at himself.
"Please…D-Don't go…" Tōru whispered. "I'm sorry…"
Izuku slowly floated down to Tōru's body, knelt in front of her, and observed her. She was sound asleep, but she had tears in her eyes. "Please don't…" Tōru whispered.
Izuku's eyes softened and he recalled the words of Hinageshi.
"Spirits have the ability to converse with the living through their dreams."
Slowly, Izuku reached forward and placed a hand on her left forearm, which made the girl shiver. "Hakigure Tōru, can you hear me?" Izuku asked again.
Izuku waited with bated breath.
And then it happened.
"How do you know my name?" Tōru asked.
Izuku wanted to scream.
She had heard him!
"You can hear me…All-Might, you can hear me," Izuku sighed with relief. "Tōru, my name is Midoriya Izuku. I'm the one that saved you from getting hurt by that car."
"I-I know," Tōru whispered with a shuddering breath, more tears falling from her cheeks as she slept. "Why did you…save me..?"
Izuku paused as he looked at her.
Why did her sad expression hurt him so much?
"Truthfully? My body moved before I could think about it," Izuku admitted. "A-All I saw was that you were in danger and I…I wanted to help."
Tōru sniffled in her sleep and said, "Heart hurts…"
Guilt blossomed in Izuku's chest. "I'm sorry," he apologized. "I am. I can see that what happened to me hurt you so much. And when I c-come back, I'll make it up to you, I p-promise!"
"C-Come back?" she asked.
"Yes!" Izuku exclaimed. "I…I'm still alive, Tōru-san. G-Go into my coffin and listen to my heart. I'm still alive. I probably won't be able to talk again until I'm back in my body…"
"Come back…Izuku…"Tōru breathed.
"I will," Izuku whispered. "But I need something to come back to. But until then, please make sure that my body remains safe…And tell Kaa-san that I'm coming back to her, too…"
Hinageshi floated back through the ceiling behind him and asked, "Are we still going to your mother?"
Izuku turned to her and said, "Yes. But Tōru-san is sleeping and I figured that I would try to talk to her first…But I'm not sure if its working…"
"We can talk to your mother too once you're done, that we can," Hinageshi told him. "But we don't have much time."
"You're right," Izuku sighed before he looked back at Tōru. "Tōru-san…I hope you heard everything. Because if you didn't and Kaa-san fails to hear me, then its all over."
Izuku lifted his hand from her forearm and slowly, he backed away as he whispered, "Please heart me…" He watched as Tōru let out a soft gasp of "Izuku," as she tried to reach out for him, only for her body to tumble to the ground, waking her up.
"When did I fall asleep?" Tōru whispered to herself.
"Let us go," Hinageshi told him.
Izuku nodded and flew out of the room.
But had he remained, he would have watched as Tōru glanced down at her forearm and gave it a puzzled look.
And had Izuku stayed behind, he would have heard her whisper, "My forearm…Why does it feel so warm?"
[Ashido Residence - Musutafu, Japan (Nighttime)
POV: Midoriya Izuku]
"Well, she's not asleep," Izuku sighed. It took them the majority of the night to find his mother, only for them to finally locate her at the Ashido residence across town. Unfortunately, she was still wide awake in her haunted state.
Izuku's heart clenched at the sight.
"I don't know what to do…Sure, I told Tōru, but I'm not even sure if she got my message…" Izuku turned to Hinageshi and asked, "There has to be something more that I can do before my body is cremated!"
Hinageshi frowned and crossed her arms in thought. "There is one other thing we can try, that there is. And it seems we have the perfect subject."
"We do?" Izuku asked.
Hinageshi pulled out her folder and said, "Ashido Mina has a spiritual level as strong as Kazuma Kuwabara before he was properly trained. Because of this, you would have the ability to possess her body in order to talk to your mother."
"Possession?!" Izuku exclaimed. "I-I couldn't do that to Mina-san! It's unethical!" Izuku then blushed and added, "Plus, she's a girl and I'm a boy…It'll be weird…"
Hinageshi looked at the clock and frowned. "Well, we could find someone closer with the same spiritual level Mina has but honestly, you only have thirty minutes left before the Day of Communication ends. Once it ends, you will be locked away from talking to anyone in this realm. And since you are unsure about your message to Tōru, you don't have much time to debate."
Izuku frowned and turned to Mina, who was conversing with her mother. "Alright, alright!" Izuku exclaimed. "What do I have to do?"
[Ashido Residence - Musutafu, Japan (Nighttime)
POV: Ashido Mina]
"Do you really have to go right now, Mom?" Mina asked with a frown on her face.
Mina looked up at her mother, who currently wore her Pro-Hero uniform, which consisted of a black tube top and two gold bracelets on each wrist.
She also wore a gold choker around her neck, gold hoop earrings in each hair with golden Helix Earrings in each ear, black arm sleeves, black boots with golden trim, white baggy pants, and a golden belt.
"There is a riot at Nyx," Suīto explained. "Rumi, Ryuko, and Shinya can't hold it on their own…"
"But Mom," Mina complained. "Midoriya-san needs you here. Look at her."
Mina and Suīto looked to see Inko staring off into the distance on their couch. "Look at her. Can't another pro-hero handle this?"
Suīto sighed and replied, "Other than the three that are having trouble handling it already?"
Mina frowned but without warning, she felt a cold chill go down her body. Why did it feel like someone was standing to her left behind her? "I know you don't like it and I know you feel helpless, Mina, but I am the 3rd ranked hero for a reason. I have to handle this."
Suīto kissed Mina on the forehead and then said, "If everything goes well, I'll be back shortly."
Mina opened her mouth, only to feel a sharp tug on her back. Without warning, she was floating behind her body.
Mina blinked.
"WHAT THE HELL?!"
