Sitting here at 1AM listening to Kitakami's Field theme and I get random inspiration for a Scarlet and Violet oneshot. Maybe I'll actually finish this one this time lmfao
And I did in fact finish it since it's now a drabble lol.
So… I adore Scarlet and Violet and have been wanting to write fic for it for the better part of the year since finishing because I loved it's story and characters and started and stopped some other oneshots since then. It's been a whole thing. Namely one about Nemona. Maybe I'll get around to writing those, who knows? But for now. It's Keiran time and I loved this kid's character and I wanted to write something for what will be our inevitable confrontation with him in the second part of the DLC so… That's this fic.
It doesn't really matter but a few things to note about this fic is that I imagine Kitakami Field Trip happening sometime during the school year before the Treasure Hunt and that Blueberry happens after all of that.
But yeah, with all that being said, I hope you enjoy.
You've Changed...
All things considered, they had enjoyed their time at the Blueberry Academy. The facility really was remarkable and the trainers there were all so nice and an excellent challenge for them even after everything they had been through. The BB League, their challenges and the elite four, all brought their own fair share of experiences for them but as always they managed to do it with a smile and made so many friends and battling companions along the way.
Still, despite all of this, they had wanted to meet their old friend from Kitakami, someone who had been so timid when they had first met but grew to become someone that they really cared for. Kieran… They really missed them.
They had already met Carmine, who had been far more welcoming to them when they first encountered her in Kitakami. She had been practically falling over herself when it came to both giving them a tour of the school as well as introducing them to each and one of her friends. Even when she insisted that 'The students of the Blueberry Academy would beat them regardless of their Paldean Championship status!' she was the one with the biggest smile on her face when they had overcome each and every one of their trials.
Still, it was Kieran that they missed the most and had hoped that they would see over the course of this trip. When they had asked about him, everyone seemed to be just as surprised by the fact that he hadn't come out to greet them and show them around as well, especially Carmine. Apparently nearly everyone had heard of them through Kieran and it had been largely positive. About how they were one of the strongest trainers they had ever seen and how much of an inspiration they were to him.
But even now, as they stepped onto the field to face Blueberry's champion. Where had he gone…?
They sighed, those thoughts would have to be ignored, at least for now… They had a battle to win as the champion was called onto the opposite end of the battlefield.
And as soon as they saw who it was, it seemed all their worries had gone away.
"Kieran!" They smiled. "I had no idea it would be you!"
And it was true, standing before them was none other than their old friend who had abandoned their old getup from when they were adventuring together across the vast Kitakami Region and was wearing a far more sporty outfit more in line with the school's white and blue colors and had his once messy hair, tied up in a single clean ponytail. His head was hung low, but they knew that it was him.
He slowly rose to look them directly in the eyes and to say that they were shocked by the look that he gave them would have been an understatement.
Gone were the cheeky grins that they had dragged out of them over the course of their project as they had been replaced with a vengeful, unforgiving scowl. No longer were his wide luminous eyes seemingly filled with joy as they had been dimmed, far more than when they were before they had warmed up to them and narrowed into a cold and calculating glare. His entire body was rigid in a way that reminded them of when they had first lied to him back then, and they knew… Their friendship that had once blossomed during that trip before their own journey across Paldea had withered away into a type of hatred that they didn't believe the boy capable of.
Everyone watching the battle looked confused at how Kieran was acting as he simply said one thing to them.
"I've been waiting a long time for this…"
With that, he threw out his Pokeball revealing Shiftry, who bellowed out a roar and immediately got into a battle stance.
What they thought would be a wonderful reunion between close friends was now a grudge match between bitter rivals, whether they had liked it or not.
Voice barely above a whisper, they croaked out. "Y-you've changed… Kieran…"
But this went ignored by the champion, who looked at them expectantly and it was there that they understood. It was time to fight now, just as they had in front of Ogerpon's old home all those months ago, but this was far more serious. And they knew that whatever… this was… whether it be over Ogerpon or something else had to be decided over battle. And they knew that no matter what, they had at least owed Kieran that much.
With a nod, they reached into their pocket and pulled out a Pokeball. It was time.
