Hello there.
Welcome my fellow Rangers to the first chapter of Power Rangers Legacy II: Dino Hope. It is an sequel to my first Power Rangers: Legacy story though that one isn't required to be read, though some facts or references will go over your head.
Anyways, I hope your going to enjoy it and now on to the story.
On a sunny Friday afternoon in the city of Amber Beach, a yellow sport bike pulled into the parking lot of the Dinosaur Museum.
It's driver removed his helmet so he could rub a hand through his black hair. He was tall, standing roughly at two meters tall. It was the first thing people always noticed about him, the second being his vivid green eyes, they were often the source of compliments for him. For today he was wearing a yellow deep V-neck shirt under a black leather jacket and black pants. A unusual neckless was hanging from his neck, though the item itself was tucked under his shirt.
With the helmet stored under the seat of his bike, he walked into the museum and immediately walked into the direction of the Information Desk, where a middle aged woman was sitting.
"Hello there, I'm looking for a Kendall Morgan." he said with a smile as he leaned on the desk, "If she asks, tell her Henry Morgenstern is here."
"She should be in the Dino Bite Café. Just look for the woman with purple glasses." the receptionist said, before giving him instruction to get there, "Go straight from here and then to the right. Can't miss it."
"Thanks gorgeous." he said with a wink before going in that direction. On his way he walked past a janitor of the museum, giving direction to a young man about some of the caves outside of the city.
Walking into the café, he noted that it was rather busy though it should be around lunch time. Looking around for the woman he had come to see, he spotted a waitress in pink walking with an order but the table next to them spilled a drink, causing her to slip on the now wet and slippery surface.
With a quick reaction, Henry caught the waitress with one arm and with his free hand he caught the trey, and with a bit of movement the food without spilling any of it.
"Great reflexes." the waitress said impressed.
"Just one of the many skill I have." he said before placing the trey on the table and addressing the customers, "Here you go. Anything else?"
"We haven't even ordered yet." one of the woman said confused.
"You didn't need to order because..." the waitress said trying to think of an excuse, "Because I read your minds!"
"What's sad is that you can't ever be sure if someone's joking about that or not..." Henry thought as their attention was draw to someone behind them.
It was a shorter woman, well most people where shorter than Henry, but she barely reached his chest. Her brown hair was tied in a ponytail and she had brown eyes behind a pair of purple glasses. In his opinion, she looked rather cute if it wasn't for her resting bitch face.
"Shelby." the woman said, "I do not pay you to flirt with customers."
"Sorry, Ms. Morgan." Shelby said before quickly returning to work.
"Ah, so you must be Kendall." Henry said with his charming smile as he held out his hand for her to shake, "Henry Morgenstern, nice to meet you."
"It's Ms. Morgan." she said pointily as she gestured him to follow, "And I thought you started on Monday."
"Oh, I do." Henry said, ignoring her rather rude gesture of refusing to shake his hand, "I just like to see my new place of work before I start. Can't let dad down you know?"
"How very hard working of you." Ms. Morgan said as they walked through the museum, "But unfortunately, I can't give you a tour today as I'm needed at a dig site."
"Oh, really." Henry said intrigued, "I would like to see that."
"Sorry, that's against museum policy." Ms. Morgan said shortly as they walked to the loading area behind the museum.
"Wait, I can't come along to a dig?" Henry said confused.
"An employee who doesn't start until tomorrow." Ms. Morgan pointed out, "Who's only got his overpaid job because his father's company bought a museum."
"It's actually my great-grandad's company." Henry corrected her, "Yeah, he was the Morgenstern in Morgenstern Inc."
A few feet away from them, he saw Shelby, the waitress from before talking with the janitor he spotted earlier, along with a second janitor with a blue shirt and long hair, who easily picked up a heavy looking crate before loading it into the waiting truck.
"Ms. Morgan!" Shelby said upon seeing the woman.
"No Shelby." Ms. Morgan said annoyed as if she had been asked the same question a hundred times before, "You can't come, museum policy."
"So wait." Henry spoke up as he held out his hand, "Shelby, a waitress, can't come on the dig due to museum policy, but the janitors, can?"
"For your information." Ms. Morgan said as she turned to him, "Chase and Koda are very highly trained museum personnel."
The three of them looked behind where they saw where Chase was doing some kind of skateboard trick while Koda is idly licking his fingers.
"...We are gonna find those fossils assembled into a crude bong, aren't we?" Henry noted dryly.
"You have a job to do." Ms. Morgan said to Shelby, clearly done with this discussion before turning to Henry, "And don't you have somewhere else to be?"
Being rather dejected from the cold reception he had gotten, Henry walked back to his motorcycle. He had just climbed on with his helmet on when he spotted the truck pulling out, but what surprised him was that he could spot Shelby climbing into the back of the truck.
"Oh, come on!" Henry said, starting his motorcycle and driving after the truck.
Driving through the forest, close enough to the dig site. Henry had lost the truck, but fortunately for him he didn't need to look for long.
When suddenly Shelby ran across the road, holding a small box made of wood between her hands. She could just evade him but the thing that was pursuing her, the creature in a black cloak got run over, sending Henry flying off his motorcycle.
Soaring through the air, Henry felt himself landing with a loud crash into the road, where he rolled over until he came to a stop. He figured he must have passed out for a few seconds as the next thing he remembered was a pair of hands checking on him. It was Shelby, kneeling next to her was the young man who Henry had spotted earlier in the museum asking directions from Chase.
"You okay?" the young man said.
"Nothing's broken except my spine... and ribs and... Everything else." Henry said, removing his helmet as he stood up, "Henry Morgenstern."
"Tyler Navarro." the young man in red introduced himself.
"Shelby Watkins." Shelby said, "Where did you come from?"
"Me, or him." Henry said gesturing between him and Tyler, before pulling them down as the wrack that was once his motorcycle comes flying overhead.
The creature had shed its black cloak revealing it to be some sort of humanoid wolf covered in white ice.
"What is that thing!?" Shelby said surprised.
"Not human, obviously." Henry said turning to the young man next to him, "Friend of yours?"
"I met him in a cave." Tyler said, "But I'm pretty sure he wants that box."
"Yeah, no shit." Henry said just as Tyler pulled something out of his backpack, and going by his own surprised face it wasn't suppose to be a banana, "Doubt the thing has a potassium deficiency."
Throwing the banana away, Tyler reached back and the next thing he pulls out was a small shovel.
"Yeah right Shovel Knight." Henry said, "Like that's going to help."
The monster shot a couple of energy blast towards them from his claws, holding the shovel like a sword the energy came into contact with the metal part and pushing it away with a swing causing explosions behind them.
"...I stand corrected." Henry said just as a yellow glow comes from his chest.
To his side he saw a red glow coming from Tyler while in the box Shelby was holding came a pink one. "Tyler, Shelby." Henry said taking the necklace off as a gun in the shape of a dinosaur materialized in his hand, "Follow my lead."
Putting the gem inside of it, he aimed the weapon at the monster, he said, "Unleash the power." as a wave of yellow energy shot out of the barrel and enveloped him as he Morphed into the Yellow Ranger.
"What!?" the monster shouted in surprise as he threw his cloak of, "A Power Ranger?"
"Awesome!" Tyler said excited.
The two followed his example, inserting the gem into the dinosaur shaped gun that had appeared in their hands before Morphing into the Red and Pink Ranger.
"One dinosaur Ranger or three, it doesn't matter." the ice monster said, "Do you know what killed the dinosaurs? The Ice Age!" before he hurled a sphere of frost energy towards the three Rangers.
Red and Pink leaped into the air to avoid the attack, which covered several trees and the ground in deep frost.
"Think you got them?" Yellow Ranger said casually, standing behind the ice monster, "No, I believe you missed."
Though surprised, he unleashed a quick claw strike which was blocked by the Yellow Ranger's gun. "Unlike you, I don't miss." he said, aiming the barrel at the monster's chest before blasting him with a heavy yellow energy bullet.
Sending him flying through the air Red and Pink comes flying, Red Ranger preforming a couple of heavy punches before Pink finished it up with two swift kicks to the head.
"Nice going you two." Yellow Ranger complimented, "You two look great."
"You don't look bad yourself." Red Ranger said just as the earth began to shake.
The intensity of the quakes increased until a large shadow overcast them. Turning in that direction, it was a large Zord in the form of a red robotic Tyrannosaurus Rex. It stomped past them before catching the ice monster in its jaw. Shaking it around like a chew toy, the Zord send the ice monster flying over the horizon.
Gazing in the direction, the Zord turned around as it stomped its way deeper into the forest.
"...Okay, did not see that coming." Henry said as he stood there with his arms crossed, "You two alright?"
He hadn't realized he, Tyler and Shelby had demorphed back into their civilian form.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Tyler said before he helped Shelby up.
"Did we just fight an abominable snowman..." Shelby said shocked, "And almost got trampled by a T-Rex?"
"And the worst part is, you aren't even going to get overtime pay at the café." Henry said with a knowing nod before he let out a loud yell.
During it stomping march, it seems that the Zord had crushed his motorcycle.
"No!" Henry yelled as he dropped to his knees, "My motorcycle!"
"Maybe it can be repaired?" Tyler said, but the bike was now barely thicker than a French pancake, "Or maybe not... Can I give you a ride?"
Later an depressed Henry was looking out the window, lost in his own thought as he was sitting in the front of Tyler's red off-road car with Shelby sitting in the back.
"Hey." Shelby said gently getting his attention, "You sure your okay?"
"Shelby... What can I say? My favorite motorcycle got crushed by a T-Rex into a pancake." Henry said sadly, "Just let me mourn."
"Okay... Just wanted to say, thanks for coming to look for me." Shelby said looking at the driver, "Neither of you had to come help."
"It's no big deal." Tyler said, "My father always used to say 'helping is always the right thing to do'."
Further along the road, they spotted a young man wearing green standing next to his broken down scooter, looking through the manual as he tried to fix it.
Pulling up next to him, Tyler asked, "Need any help?"
"What? No thanks. I think I found the problem." the young man said, holding up the book in his hand, "Just got to stick to the old owner's manual and I'll be..." but before he could finish, a strong gust of wind swept past, scattering the pages to the wind.
Gathering up the loose part and with some help from Tyler and Henry, who almost had the scooter fall on his foot a couple of times, the scooter tied in the trunk and with the young man, who introduced himself as Riley, sitting next to Shelby, they where back on the road.
Riley explained that he had grown up on a ranch with his brother and mother, that he had accepted the job of a cook in Amber Beach. To their surprise it was the Dino Bite Café, the same place where Shelby was working.
"If I grew up on a ranch." Shelby said, "I'd never leave."
"Yeah, how great is that?" Tyler said with a smile, "Cowboys and rounds ups."
"...How did cowboys got such a cool image?" Henry said, "I mean, I liked Red Dead and all, but cowboys were just a bunch of guys who watched cows, had sex with each other and ate pudding."
"That was just in that one movie." Riley told him.
"What movie are you talking about?" Henry said confused, looking over his shoulder, "There was no pudding eating in Brokeback Mountain."
Tyler's car pulled up in the loading bay of the Museum. The group got out and a prop in the shape of a tyrannosaurus head sticking out of a crate caught Tyler's attention.
"I called a mechanic." Henry said to Riley still with his phone in his hand, "Should be here in an hour or so."
"That's great, thanks." Riley said.
"Don't mention it." Henry said as he looked through his phone, "Now to call an Uber to get me back home."
"Hey guys!" Tyler said as he was standing on a crate next to the T-Rex head, "Take a picture for me!", he reached into his pocket before throwing his phone to Shelby, who luckily managed to catch it.
"Really?" Shelby said, "Now?"
But as Tyler went sat inside of the mouth, he pulled one of its teeth and it send him sliding backwards into the dinosaur head.
"The actual fuck." Henry said as he and Riley climbed up on the crates to see some sort of secret passage.
Without any hesitation, Henry jumped up and slide down feet first with Riley not far behind.
It was like rushing down an endless, dark slide before Henry landed on a grey concrete floor in a large circular room. Soon enough, Shelby joined them as the four where standing inside some sort of underground lab.
"I have been serving burgers in the place for a year." Shelby said as the four of them looked around, "I didn't had a clue something like this was here."
"Hey, guys. Come look at this." Henry said as he spotted a hollowed out place in the wall where some sort of white crystal was forming out of it.
Floating between the crystals where two gems identical to the once Henry, Tyler, and Shelby had used to Morph into Power Rangers. Though they where in the colors blue and black. Holding up each of there gems, Riley seemed to be in possession of the green colored one, before they where whisked out of their hands and floated between their own white crystals.
"Hey!" Henry said offended, "Give them back!"
"It looks like..." Riley said as he looked at the machine panel in front of them, "To be some kind of power source."
"They are Energems."
The group turned around to find a old orange colored alien covered in wrinkles, dressed in dark red robes carrying a staff. Though he was sorter than Riley, it still put them on edge.
"Don't be afraid. My name is Keeper" the alien said as if sensing their emotions, "I am quite harmless."
"Yeah, whatever you say Yoda." Henry mumbled dryly.
"Energems harness untold powers of the universe." Keeper explained, "Long ago, I entrusted them to guardian dinosaurs. When they went extinct, the Energems were lost."
"Until we found them." Tyler said.
"Exactly." Keeper said with a nod, "And the Energems have chosen to bond with you."
"But..." Riley said confused, "Why would they bond with us?"
"Don't sell yourself short, Riley." Henry said, giving a playful punch to Riley's shoulder, "I can think of a ton of reasons."
Just then out of one of the hallways leading deeper into the underground base, came Chase and Koda, the two Henry thought where janitors working at the museum, followed by Ms. Morgan.
"Well, well, well." Henry said placing his hands on his hips, "Look what the orange Yoda dragged in."
But Ms. Morgan ignored him for now as she turned to Tyler, "You fought to protect a stranger at great personal risk. That's why the Red Energem chose you, Tyler." she said before turning to Riley, "Your discipline and intelligence have given you the skills to protect others. The Green Energem was very wise to chose you, Riley."
The the boys had a smile on their face from the compliment, while Henry was wondering how she knew all that.
Ms. Morgan turned to the girl, "Why the Pink Energem chose you, Shelby..." she said before shrugging her shoulders, "Is anyone's guess..." much to the surprise of Shelby.
"Sounds like someone's jealous." Henry said in a sing-song voice as he crossed his arms in front of his chest.
"An even bigger mystery is..." Ms. Morgan said with a glare towards Henry, "Why the Yellow Energem would ever chose someone like you."
"I think the reason is quite clear, Kendall." Henry said smugly, "It's clearly because I'm super awesome. I mean it's obvious to everyone here that I am, though I can never admit it because then I would look like a giant douche."
"Believe me, you already do." Ms. Morgan said as she glared up at him, being so much shorter she had to crane her head back to look him in the eyes, "And it's Ms. Morgan."
"Kendall." Henry said with a defiant smirk as he looked down at her, his vivid greens looking into her chocolate browns.
While the two where having a stare down, Riley began to talk. "Okay but Energems, dinosaur spirits and bonding..." he said, "This sounds a bit unbelievable."
"Unbelievable?" Henry said not looking away from the stare down he was having, "It wasn't that long ago an alien army attempted to destroy the planet, all because one of their princes wanted to become a god or something."
"Indeed." Ms. Morgan said not looking away either, "Six Energems have been found, but six are still lost. You must use your new powers before they fall into evil hands. I helped Keeper track down Chase after he bonded with his Energem, then we found Koda."
"Welcome to our..." Koda said with a big smile, "Team."
"Your officially Power Rangers." Chase said.
