Chapter 4

Mathematics was Serena's fifth-period class. She and her classmates worked on math problems while their math teacher, Mr. Hirano, stepped aside for a cigarette break. Serena wrote the problems in her notebook while she glanced at her math book. Some students fool around instead of doing their class assignments, but Serena does not pay attention, especially to Natsumi's and Kumi's glares. Serena knew those girls were still ticked at her for preventing them from bothering Sora the other day. Rojasu leaned against his chair and put his feet on the table. He grinned and relaxed carefreely.

"I suppose I could ask you to kindly get your foot off the table, but I'm not even going to bother," Ryusei told his classmate, annoyed with Rojasu's laziness. "You never listen to me."

"You know me too well, Ryusei," Rojasu smiled at him cheerfully.

"Ugh, math is so boring!" Ryuto Ippongo whined. "Sora, please do my math for me, man."

"No." Sora quickly declined Ryuto's request as he closed his math book and notebook.

"So blunt!" Ryuto slumped in his seat. He noticed Sora was finished with his math problems. "What a show-off!"

"Of course, Sora is finished," Rojasu said. "He's smarter than all of our dumbasses here."

"Of course, you'd say that," Sakyu giggled. "You're crushing on him like the rest of our schoolmates."

"You're exaggerating, Sakyu. Not all of us are attracted to Sora."

"Can we NOT talk about my looks?" Sora frowned, looking away and resting his chin on his hand.

"And Sora is aromantic anyway," Boru added, sketching a disturbing picture on his drawing pad since he was also finished with his math.

"Like your stupid gloomy and creepy ass?' Natsumi smickered at Boru. "You wish."

"Oh, please." Boru tossed an unoffended look at her. "You are still mad because Sora rejected your patheticness eight times."

Half of the students laughed while Natsumi's face was burning up from embarrassment and insult.

"What did you say?!" Natsumi screeched in anger.

"You heard me," Boru sneered back at her.

"Enough! This is a math class, not the drama club!" Ryusei shouted at Natsumi and Boru.

"Who the hell put you in charge, nerd?" Natsumi glared at Ryusei.

"Our math teacher, you goddamned moron," Sora said, loud enough for Natsumi to hear, his tone full of animosity. "Also, look up the definition of nerd before using the word as an insult, dumbass."

"Hey!" Kumi stood up angrily in defense of Natsumi. "What the hell is your fucking problem?!"

"You assholes are the problem," Kyuji answered for Sora. "Don't think we have forgotten what you scumbags did-"

"Kyuji." Ryusei shot a warning look at his upperclassman.

Serena has been quiet the entire time. She had witnessed an exchange of hostility between her classmates. She noticed Mr. Hirano wasn't even outside. Where did her math teacher go? She was curious about what Kyuji almost implied before Ryusei stopped his red-haired classmate from spilling the beans. Something severe had happened between Sora, Natsumi, and Kumi. Mr. Hirano returned and resumed his teaching.

Kaneyama and his classmates did three laps on the track field. His classmates returned to the weight room as Kaneyama and Hojiro sat on a field bench. There was silence between the two boys as Kaneyama glanced at a green-haired girl on Hojiro's smartphone. She was Midori Moriyama, one of Serena's classmates from homeroom.

"Yo, is that your girlfriend?" Kaneyama asked.

"Ex-girlfriend," Hojiro answered dejectedly. "I still love her."

"That's rough, man." Kaneyama placed his strong hand on Hojiro's shoulder, showing sympathy. "I'm sorry to hear."

"Thanks, Kaneyama. I appreciate your kindness." Hojiro smiled at him thankfully. "Through I don't deserve your sympathy." Hojiro downcasted his eyes in guilt.

"Whatcha ya mean?" Kaneyama confusedly raised an eyebrow.

"It's my fault. I broke up with Midori over stupid rumors. You see. A lot of shit happened last year, Kaneyama."

"Like with Masuyama and Kizuguchi?" Kaneyama inquired as he recalled Budo's history with Umeji. He needed more details. "Do you know what happened between them?"

Hojiro was silent. He stared at Kaneyama sideway. He hesitated at first. Kaneyama had a concerned expression. His classmate wanted to know the truth about Budo and Umeji. Hojiro could share the details with Kaneyama, but it felt it wasn't his place to do so without Budo's or Umeji's consent. Still, Hojiro needed to get his depressing feelings off his chest. He'd apologize to Budo and Umeji later on. He took a deep breath. Hojiro looked down and grasped his hands together tightly. His navy blue eyes twitched in slight anxiety.

"Kizuguchi and his friends were bullied last year."

"What?!" Kaneyama reacted as his eyes widened in shock.

"Masuyama did not believe Kizuguchi when he told him about the bullying. Masuyama wasn't the only one. Most students rejected their allegations against the bullies. Since there was no proof of the bullying, the guidance counselor refused to take action. The ones who knew about or witnessed the bullying kept their mouths shut." Hojiro explained. "The bullying has gotten so severe that Kizuguchi and his friends considered a suicide pact."

"Oh my god," Kaneyama felt sick in his stomach. "So, they were different people before they became delinquents?"

"Correct, Kaneyama. Osoro Shidesu is the reason why Kizuguchi and his friends became delinquents. Osoro fought ten students from a different high school in front of everyone at the school gate one day. Kizuguchi and the others witnessed the fight. Thanks to the incident, Osoro saved their lives from the suicide pact. Osoro taught them a fearsome appearance with brute strength would keep the bullies away from them. The bullying had stopped."

"Damn..." Kaneyama was very unsettled with the whole story. He started to see Umeji in a different light. He had misjudged the delinquents. Kaneyama should have taken his father's advice that he shouldn't judge someone at first expression.

"We should head back. The school bell will ring soon." Hojiro stood. "Kaneyama, I heard you rescued a girl from a group of nasty men."

"Damn right, I did." Kaneyama also stood, stretching his arms out. "Thanks for telling me the story."

Hojiro nodded with a soft smile. Kaneyama and Hojiro headed back to the weight room and hit the showers.

Tetsuya was summoned to the police headquarters in the city of Distance. The conference room was overcrowded with detectives, inspectors, and the police. They were investigating different cases simultaneously at once. Tetsuya was led to an investigation room by a police officer. Adachi waited for Tetsuya outside of the room.

"Thank you for coming, Mr. Mizuno." Adachi bowed his head in respect. "Dojima is in the hospital."

"What happened to him?" Tetsuya was worried about an old friend.

"Dojima was shot in the foot during a raid. He was pierced by a White Kingdom sniper or maybe a third party hired by the White Kingdom."

"White Kingdom." Tetsuya narrowed his eyes coldly. "So, I assured you had caught one of the members."

"Yes. The suspect inside," Adachi placed his hand on the doorknob and turned it slowly. "I am actually nervous." He admitted to Tetsuya. "I don't want to be alone in a room with a crazy man."

"I figured," Tetsuya sighed. "Let's get this over with." He entered the room after Adachi opened the door.

A man with long black hair and blue eyes sat at a table. His hands were handcuffed behind him. The man wore a simple white dress shirt with a light blue necktie and navy blue pants. The man glared at Tetsuya as the retired NPA agent sat down on the opposite side of the table. Adachi stood behind Tetsuya as he shuddered with fear.

"What is your name?" Tetsuya began the investigation.

"Like hell, I'd give my name to peasants," The man growled. "The king will find out about this treachery."

"Is this a joke?" Adachi gaped at the man, baffled by the way he talked. "This isn't the Medieval era."

"I asked for your name. Speak now." Tetsuya ignored Adachi's comment and demanded an answer from the suspect.

"I refused to betray the king. He promised me great wonders if I should do his bidding." The man had a nasty expression as he snickered.

"By murdering innocent people, doing drug trafficking, and other crimes?" Tetsuya inquired, keeping his cool.

"I haven't killed anyone. I've only stolen the drugs and trafficked whores."

"You will NOT speak of the trafficked victims in such a degrading and misogynistic way." Tetsuya rebuked. "Watch your tone."

"You aren't my king. Your words aren't the law."

Tetsuya rubbed his forehead in frustration. This investigation isn't going anywhere. Adachi wished Dojima was here to help Tetsuya with the questioning. Adachi wasn't getting paid enough for this crap. Tetsuya had read reports about the White Kingdom and how the leader brainwashed the members. Tetsuya needed to get home early to prepare dinner for his family.

"What is your name? Who are you working for? Answer the questions now. I am losing patience with you."

Adachi was startled by Tetsuya's darkened expression. He wanted to leave the investigation room and go home, but if Dojima found out, he'd get a scolding, so Adachi continued observing the investigation. This White Kingdom man was freaking him out through.

'Well, it isn't like he can hurt Mr. Mizuno and escape. His hands are handcuffed.' Adachi reassured himself to cope with the hazardous atmosphere in the room. 'Like he can hurt Mr. Mizuno anyway.'

"I will ask again." Tetsuya glared into the man's cold blue eyes. "I don't have all day to waste my time on the questioning that obviously isn't going anywhere."

"You're the one who's wasting my time. I, Weston Dior, should have been returned to the king's side by now." The man scowled at Tetsuya in disgust.

"Least you answered the first question," Adachi yawned, getting bored with the questioning. He leaned against the wall and folded his arms.

"It would be a matter of time until the King sends a knight to rescue me." Weston gives Tetsuya a nasty smirk.

"You are not in the position to threaten me," Tetsuya told him sternly.

"My full name is just an alias. There's no way in hell I'd give you my full birth name." Weston told Tetsuya in a mocking tone.

"Mr. Mizuno, we should just put this guy back in his cell. He's wasting our time." Adachi suggested timorously. "We can question him again when Dojima gets better. With Dojima, this guy would tell us about what he knows in no time."

"So, the rumor is true, huh? You police tortured people to get answers." Weston assured.

"Don't you dare put us on the same level as you horrible people!" Tetsuya snapped, slamming his fist on the table. Now, Tetsuya was enraged with Weston's accusation. "From what I've learned, you people are the ones who have been torturing innocent people for years! You aren't fooling me or Adachi!"

"Exactly," Adachi pointed his finger at his face, giving Weston an awkward expression. "Do I look like I am a torturer? Even an incompetent guy like me wouldn't be able to torture people for shits and giggles. Self-projecting much?"

"Adachi, please speak in a professional tone!" Tetsuya shot a glare at the rookie detective.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Mizuno!" Adachi bowed his head quickly in shame.

"One more minute. My life shall be offered to the king." Weston said.

"What do you mean-"

Tetsuya did not have the chance to finish his question fully. A couple of smoke balls crashed into the investigation room via the window. The window shattered into pieces. Tetsuya and Adachi coughed. A flashbang was also thrown into the room, and it activated. It blinded Tetsuya and Adachi for a few seconds. The fire alarm had gone off, alerting the other detectives in the building.

"I can't see anything, Mr. Mizuno!" Adachi called out, panicking.

"Shit! Call for backup, Adachi!" Tetsuya groaned. His eyes were burning from the flash. "Don't worry about me! Go!

"I won't leave you behind! Dojima will get pissed at me if I do!" Adachi refused to leave Tetsuya alone.

"GAH!" Weston's voice shrieked in pain.

"The suspect!" Tetsuya attempted to reach the suspect in the smoke. However, someone had kicked him in the stomach. The kick was so ferocious that it caused Tetsuya to fly back and hit the wall in agony. "UGH!"

"Mr. Mizuno, are you okay?!" Adachi called out in distress.

Tetsuya's eyes were twitching. He could see a shadowy figure in the smoke. Two firefighters barged into the room and used ventilation to clear the smoke horizontally. Once the room was cleared of smoke, Adachi hurried to Tetsuya's side and helped him off the floor.

"Mr. Mizuno, the suspect!" Adachi shouted in a terrified tone.

The last thing Tetsuya saw before passing out was a headless body on the chair and the suspect's head on the table. The suspect's soulless eyes stared back at Tetsuya. The shadowy figure was no longer there.

The Ytiniciv High School student council president sat at the end of a long table. She had black hair in tri-tails and gray eyes. She had reading glasses on while she read the reports of bullying. She glowered in revulsion and put the papers down. She rubbed her forehead in dismay.

'Why hasn't the school staff taken action against the bullies?' She questioned mentally. 'Is the school staff being influenced by powerful families?'

Yuuki entered the meeting room and greeted her with a smile. She glanced at him tiredly as he took a seat at the table. Ayato entered the room a few seconds later alongside two girls named Himeko Sawachika and Kasai Gohongi.

"I do not expect you to attend the meeting, Miss Sawachika," Yuuki said, surprised by her presence.

"I may be arrogant and rich, but I'm not a bully." Himeko frowned. "My family doesn't tolerate corruption. Period. A dear cousin of mine was a victim of bullying."

"Same with me. I may be a bitch, but I'd never resorted to bullying." Kasai added. "So, what's happening?" She eyed the student council president. "Miss Kuroka Hino?"

"Makoto Itou's former friends broke into our school and harassed him earlier," Kuroka informed. "The higher-ups requested us to install more security. They are still investigating if Taisuke Sawanaga and his group are acting on their free will or being influenced by a third party."

"Obviously, it's both." Ayato scoffed. "Do I need to remind you about Taisuke almost choking Itou to death?"

"Those assholes. They think they could get away with it. Just because they're friends with Musume Ronshaku and her group." Himeko crossed her arms and growled in anger. "Those bitches make me want to vomit."

"Oh, and let's not forget about Otome Katou and her group," Kasai added. "They came to our town to harass Ayato, Roka, and Kano during lunchtime."

"Damn right, they did," Ayato confirmed, still pissed off from earlier. "You can also ask Roka and Kano."

"Are they still in class?" Kuroka wondered.

"No, they went home earlier for personal reasons."

"To think Roka and Kano would leave school early simultaneously," Yuuki said.

"Well, it isn't our concern." Kuroka returned to the topic. "The higher-ups have discussed theories. But, those theories are classified."

"The only thing we do know is that someone is supporting these intimidators from the shadows," Himeko said. "Classified my ass. It's obvious. All we need to do is cut off the resources, and the enemy would be powerless."

"Even if the resource is the bully's family's status?" Ayato questioned. "Good luck with that."

"Well, the higher-ups gotta share their information with us sooner or later." Kasai shrugged her hands. "The leader had been keeping us in the dark for a while. I wonder what is that person's deal."

"That person?" Yuuki inquired.

"We don't know the gender of the leader. The only one who does is the second in command." Kuroka answered. "And the second in command is also very secretive about the information."

"Is the second in command a he or she?"

"Also unknown."

"Well, all we can do is follow their orders," Ayato told everyone. "There's no point in trying to figure out their identities."

Everyone nodded in agreement. Kuroka discussed everyone from the meeting. As everyone exited the classroom, Kuroka received a text message on her smartphone. It was from her mother. She gaped at the text message in surprise. She gathered and put the papers inside a folder. Placing the folder in her schoolbag, Kuroka locked the meeting room and left the school corridor, heading outside.

"Holy shit. Did Miss Kitamura assign us in a group?" Ryuji raised his left eyebrow in surprise.

"It looks like she did." Sho grinned excitedly. "I am so looking forward to working with you girls." He looked at Osana, Hanako, and Suzume.

"Oh, great. Just don't goof off, you idiots." Osana rolled her eyes, displeased with the idea.

"Let us work hard on the project together!" Hanako raised her fists up energetically.

Suzume's sixth-period class was history. Suzume's, Osana's, Sho's, Ryuji's, and Hanako's desks had been rearranged as a table. Suzume's other classmates were also assigned to a group. Suzume smiled excitedly, her hands grasped together.

"So, what should we write about?" Sho asked.

"I have no ideas, man." Ryuji leaned against his chair and put his arms behind his head lazily. "How about you girls?"

"How about we write about the founder of Vicinity?" Suzume suggested as a random topic flashed in her mind.

"Whoa, Suzume. The topic isn't a bad idea." Osana gaped at the burgundy-haired girl. "No one ever wrote about this town's founder."

"And there has to be every history behind each town," Hanako said. "I mean, a town can't just build on its own, right?"

"True," Osana agreed with Hanako. "If we run out of time in this class, we can continue the research project in study hall."

Sho and Ryuji groaned in displeasure. Suzume giggled. Sho and Ryuji loved the study hall class because it was the only class where they could fool around without facing the consequences of their actions. Well, unless they annoyed Mr. Morooka. Suzume still wondered what kind of drawing Ryuji drew of Mr. Morooka on her first day at this school. Suzume caught Kokoro Momoiro staring at her. Kokoro was in a group with Otohiko Meichi, Chojo Terajima, Boru, and Unagi. For some reason, Otohiko and Chojo looked uncomfortable while Unagi glared at her. Boru kept his eyes glued to a sketching pad.

'I wondered what the heck was that about.' Suzume refocused on her group.

"I don't wanna do a stupid project," Sho slumped on his desk, his arms spreading out lazily.

"Same, man. I'd rather play video games." Ryuji whined.

"Too bad. You two are helping us whether you like it or not." Osana looked at Sho and Ryuji, annoyed with their irresponsibility.

Suzume opened her history textbook to see if she could find anything about the Vicinity's founder. Suzume's other classmates discussed the project or gossiped about off topics simultaneously. Ryuji was drawing a new picture of Mr. Morooka, Osana, and Hanako granted permission from Miss Kitamura to seek knowledge from the library, and Sho was winking at Suzuko Chijimatsu, aka Supana Churu, who blushed.

'So much for working together,' Suzume thought. 'Oh well. I'm sure we'd get the hang of it.'

Ryoba Aishi arrived at an abandoned white-colored warehouse. The warehouse was in a ruined state. Half of the ceiling was missing. Graffiti can be seen on the walls. Trash and remains of the building were cluttered in the corner as if someone had been cleaning this place up. Ryoba carried a white and blue suitcase while she waited. She drove ten miles away from Vicinity to meet someone in this warehouse. Ten minutes later, a blond-haired woman arrived alongside four men in white suits and blue neckties. The men pointed their handguns at Ryoba.

"It looked like you're on time, sugar." The woman smiled at Ryoba coldly. "Open up the suitcase."

Ryoba wanted to pull out her kitchen knife and stab the blonde in the face, but she kept her composure and followed orders. She remembered why she was here. Inside of the suitcase was a lot of cash. About one million. While the men counted the money, Ryoba glared at the blond-haired woman who observed her every move. She couldn't wait to wipe that nasty smirk off that woman's face.

"To think the people who helped me in the past would turn against me years later." Ryoba spat in disgust.

"It is called blackmail, honey. Don't want to let the public know what you did years ago, now do we?"

"I could say the same about you, Calamity Mary."

"Watch it, old hag." Calamity Mary took out her handgun and pointed at Ryoba. She snarled at her. "Remember what I've told you before? Don't oppose Calamity Mary. Don't cause me trouble. And don't piss me off."

Ryoba gritted her teeth while clenching her fists, enraged. Once the men were done with the money count. He reported to Calamity Mary. She took out her smartphone and texted her boss. A few seconds later, she received a response.

"Well, hag. You aren't out of the woods yet. The boss got a new target for you to eliminate."

Ryoba nodded slowly. Once she received a picture and details about her target, Ryoba left the warehouse, heading towards Distance. Once she was ten miles from the warehouse, Ryoba parked on the side of the freeway and turned off her car engine. She gulped onto the car wheel tightly as she shed tears.

'I'm sorry, Ayano, Ayato. I'm working for those bastards to keep you both safe.'

Suzume, Osana, Hanako, Ryuji, and Sho hurried to their study hall classroom and arrived on time before the late bell. Mr. Morooka wasn't there. Sora, Ryusei, and Riku were sitting at their usual spot. Suzume and her classmates sat at a circle table.

"I wonder where is King Moron?" Ryuji asked before grinning. "I bet he's in the men's restroom, jacking off while watching porn."

"Gross, Ryuji." Osana frowned at him in disgust. "Can you not say such a thing when Hanako and Suzume are around?"

"Don't worry, Osana. I'm quite okay." Hanako giggled, waving her hand off. "Heck, my brother once read a book about how to pervert without perverting."

"The fuck?" Sho gawked at Hanako. "Oooh, I have no idea Taro was into that shit." He gives her a foolish grin.

"Seriously! Can we NOT go off-topic?! Geez!" Osana yelled, her face entirely red, embarrassed with what she had just learned about Taro.

Everyone else entered the classroom as the late bell rang. Hayato, Sota, and Haruto arrived five minutes later. The students took their textbooks, notebooks, and paperwork out and studied. Mr. Norooka arrived, carrying a folder of papers. Hayato, Sota, and Haruto tittered at him.

"Do you three have something to share with your classmates?" Mr. Norooka scowled at them.

"Yeah. Did you like get stuck on the toilet, sir?" Hayato grinned.

Ryuji, Sho, and the other class clowns guffawed. Sora rubbed his forehead, irritated by his classmate's absurd question. Ryusei shot a disapproving look at Hayato, and Riku, Osana, and the other non-clowned students just wanted to study in peace.

"HOW DARE YOU, MORITA?!" Mr. Norooka yelled in a scolding tone. "Detention after school! You too, Sakamoto, Komura, Akamiya and Kunikida!" He pointed at Ryuji, Sota, Haruto, and Sho. In fact, the rest of you who laughed at me also get detention!"

"Oh, bummer." The class clowns groaned in disappointment.

"Hmph. Y'all deserved it." Osana said.

"I should have gone to the library," Sora muttered.

"Same." Ryusei sighed in grief.

"Ugh. Sometimes, I do hate this class." Riku slumped on the table.

'This class is something else,' Suzume thought. 'Morita's jokes are so amusing. Well, it is time for me to do my part for the project.' Suzume took out her textbook, notebook, and pencil box. 'Hmm. I wonder how Serena and Kaneyama are doing in their classes?' She looked up at the ceiling in curiosity.

A/N: Kuroka Hino is my Yandere Simulator OC. Himeko is Himedere-chan and Kasai is Tsundere-chan. This Himeko is not the same Himeko from the 1980s mode. Calamity Mary is from Magical Girl Raising Project. Tetsuya is a Zatch Bell OC father of Suzume. Wow, two chapters in 2023? I hope I update Vicinity: Akademi a least twice a year. Better than once in every two years lmao.
