Chapter 4: Let's Get Zingy
Their time at the hotel was quickly coming to an end, and as much as both of them knew it wasn't necessary, they also really wanted to consummate the relationship while they had a hotel room at their disposal. Once they left, the assumption was Brittany would go home with Wayne and Wanda, and Santana with her parents until they found a more permanent home. After talking to a bunch of Santana's buddies, many of them were facing the same dilemma of wanting to move out. A few of them were going off to human universities, as some of them could pretty easily disguise themselves, while a few others were going to U of Transylvania, a university that was geared towards monsters. For the most part, though, joining the workforce was what most monsters did after high school. Most of the skills needed came rather naturally for a lot of the jobs they took on. Many wolves hunted for work, helping to supply other monsters less hunting inclined, and even wolves who didn't have the time. Brittany, personally, was going to continue to babysit for Wayne and Wanda periodically and work at the gym. It came with the benefit of a free membership and they said that she could learn about kinesiology on the job and eventually become a personal trainer. Santana was going to be teaching, which unlinked was required in the human world, didn't require a college degree. She would be teaching anatomy, something Frankens were especially familiar with.
Eventually they realized Rachel and Quinn were perfect roommates for them. Neither of them were going off to college, and Quinn was Santana's best friend. Rachel had also grown on Brittany a bit, so it should work out.
All that, however, would take time, and so it had been agreed they should consummate their relationship before they were torn apart by the cruelty of life. There was a problem though. Neither of them had ever done this before, and they honestly hadn't any idea how it would go. Sure, they knew what to do, a plus of both being girls was it was similar to doing it alone, but it was still nerve wracking. Brittany was preparing her paws, which thank goodness had the dexterity of human hands, by filing down her claws to safe nubs. Santana was putting extra stitches on her wrist. Neither of them wanted to have any lack of preparedness pile onto the awkwardness of a first time with your zing. Teeth were brushed and brushed, showers were taken, and stretches were done. Brittany was just turning on a diffuser and adjusting the lights when Santana knocked. Both of them were shy as she made her way inside.
"Do you want a drink?" Brittany offered, holding a bottle of Vodka "I swiped some."
"Shots?" Santana asked, even as she took the shot glass.
"I mean I have soda if you want a mixed drink…" Brittany was losing any chance of coming across as suave quickly.
"No, this is good." Santana threw back the shot "I don't want more than that though. I want to remember this."
"Agreed." Brittany said, setting the bottle aside. She turned on some music they both agreed was perfect for the occasion. "Why don't we just cuddle for now and let things come naturally?" she asked and Santana nodded. They snuggled into the bed, and, after a few moments, Brittany began nibbling on Santana's neck. Soon, Santana turned her head and kissed Brittany back, and Brittany's tail began to wag slowly. It wasn't long before clothes were tossed aside and their hands were exploring each other's bodies.
"You're beautiful." Santana admired her hand buried in the soft fur of Brittany's now exposed belly.
"So are you." Brittany smiled. She ran a paw through Santana's silky hair, looking down at her with adoration. The amount of love between after the intense moments they had just shared was palpable. Brittany could still feel her body buzzing, coming down from an indescribable high. A rush of endorphins and adrenaline and pure bliss. She kissed Santana's forehead softly.
"I don't ever want this time together to end." Santana said. "I want to show you my love as often as possible, in the most incredible ways. I want to fall asleep on your chest. I want to snuggle close to you when the snow coats the ground."
"I want that too, and we will have it. Soon, I hope." Brittany felt similarly to Santana. Leaving the hotel meant parting ways, if only for a matter of weeks, if Brittany could have her way.
"Not soon enough. Maybe we should stay at the hotel until we find an apartment." Santana proposed. This wasn't the first time she'd made the suggestion. It wasn't that it was the worst idea, it just wasn't great either. Save for this particular chunk of time, Drac had opened the hotel up to the friendly humans of Transylvania, and Brittany wasn't particularly fond of humans. Santana was quite curious about them, perhaps to the point or morbidity, and so staying really wasn't advisable.
"You know why we can't." Brittany smiled sadly. It was, after all, their only option. Staying with Wayne and Wanda was out of the question. Her limbs would become chew toys. The situation with her parents was more of a discomfort factor. Santana knew full well that, despite how far apart the rooms were, the walls were too thin.
"I also don't think I'll survive our time apart." Santana said and Brittany couldn't help the whimper she let out, seeing the absolute heartbreak on her face. She had to admit, it was a troubling thought.
"Maybe surviving in your parents house won't be so bad." Brittany suggested. Sure, they'd have to strategically plan any intimate activities, but to her, just Santana's hand in her paw was satisfactory.
"Can't you just find us a little hideout?" Santana laid face down on the pillow.
"Not one you'll survive in." Brittany assured "Come on. Wouldn't you rather have me in some way, than no way at all?" Brittany prodded.
"You have a point." Santana knew that the solution was obvious. She just didn't like it. She wanted privacy with her too. Time to explore her body more. To know every little scar, every fur. The way her breath made her chest rise and fall. All of it.
"I know it's not the perfect answer." Brittany said. "But it's our only viable solution. And we'll make the most of the last few days here. And strategically plan around your parents schedule to get a few hours alone at least once a week."
"We can make it work. My parents' blessing has already been extended after all. They'll be thrilled." Santana kissed along Brittany's jaw "But you're going to make good on that promise to make our time here count." Brittany chuckled as their limbs tangled again.
After a long while together, some spent sleeping, others spent christening probably the entire of Brittany's hotel room, they finally made their way downstairs at dinner. Most of Santana's friends giggled, well aware of what must've been going on all day. The adults tried to ignore the obvious. Brittany was ravenous, and had two plates piled high with steak and potatoes when she took her seat beside Santana who had a much more sensible portion of a human delicacy, pizza, made garlic free of course, on her plate.
"Good evening Mr. and Mrs. Lopez." Brittany said, taking her seat beside Santana. She carefully ate with a fork and knife, not by her own wish, but to appeal to the more well-mannered Franken folk she sat with. Across the hall, Wayne, Wanda and the pups took the usual approach: no utensils, all teeth.
"You needn't eat that way for us. We understand that all monsters eat differently." Francisco insisted.
"All due respect sir, but if I have the capability to make others more comfortable, I feel it is my responsibility. And while you may feel comfortable with a less mannered eating style, there are others here who may not." Brittany tilted her head towards the extended Franken family."
"That's very kind of you Brittany." Stella said.
"You've extended courtesy to me. It's only right that I repay the favor." Brittany said.
"I hadn't told them we'd reconsidered their offer." Santana sighed. "But we have. And if the door is still open, Brittany and I would love to stay with you until our other arrangements have been situated."
"Just wonderful. It'll give us more time to get to know the new member of the family." Francisco smiled.
"I look forward to it." Brittany's tail wagged. Santana giggled as it tickled her ankles, gently laying a hand on it to pause its movements. Usually, such a touch would make Brittany snap, but she didn't. Her instinct sensed that Santana was her mate, and it wouldn't hurt her.
Their last night at the hotel was tonight. And of course, it being the last night for most, a huge party was being thrown downstairs. As much as Santana had insisted that no one would miss them if they'd stayed in their room all night, Brittany wasn't a fool. They had to go and, at the very least, thank Drac for such a wonderful stay at the hotel. A short appearance was all it had to be. And while she knew full well that would likely constitute at least an hour in the ballroom, there'd still be plenty of night left when they made their way back up the stairs. The older monsters would stay up and toast and reminisce about the good ol' days, but it wouldn't surprise anyone that many of the younger adults would retire early. So they joined the party, a farewell to some of their friends, but also making plans to meet and trading contact information. Brittany had just secured a cellphone, thanks to Johnny, and Santana had taught her all about it. The human device had quickly made its way around Transylvania, and Brittany quickly realized why. In an instant she could send a heart emoji to Santana. That was the extent of her texting usually. She had a bigger phone to accommodate for her paws, but she just wasn't as handy as others.
They were chatting and planning with Quinn and Rachel when Dracula paused the music and came up to the microphone.
"Esteemed hotel guests, thank you for coming to our end of Halloween party! Mavis, Johnny, Dennis and I are so glad you've been able to join us. Every one of you is like family, no matter how far extended, and we truly appreciate you spending your Halloween here. As is tradition at the end of our time, we now open up the floor to all the youthful Zings. We know full well that this hotel is where young love flourishes. A song for you all before you undoubtedly bid us old folks farewell in favor of your rooms.
I thought I found a love but she was just a fling.
And then I met a girl
and felt a different thing.
It's like your hit in the ring like you're pulled by a string.
Can't breathe like you're choking on a chicken wing.
Brittany and Santana giggled as they jumped around with all their friends, some singing along, others cheering on Johnny. They were all just so happy at that moment.
It was a thing called a zing.
And I wanted to sing
and listen to the ballads of a man named Sting.
Baby, looks in your eye.
And it's suddenly spring like when Nala kissed Simba in the lion king.
"The what?" Brittany asked, having to practically shout to be heard over the music.
"It's a movie. You'll love it." Santana said, twirling around her.
Zinging in the air and I don't have a care.
I'm winging from the zing that we share.
Zinging in the rain.
Now I'm feeling no pain.
It's real, time for celebrating cause you're my zing
"You got that right!" Brittany whooped as she danced with Santana. This was happiness. This was love. She was in love. With Santana. This was for life.
So listen all you zingers from here to beijing.
You better grab a box of strings and get ready to cling cause if love was money, you'd better be yelling "cha - ching"
cause next to zing, cupid's arrow's a little bee sting, it was a zing and a zang and a ziygididy and there was one only one
lady in the zing for me cause when you zing (when you zing)!
Santana grinned up at Brittany, fully adoration for the werewolf. Her white fur caught the lights, reflecting back the rainbow strobe. She was in love.
You better know one little thing: the only thing you're gonnna sling is a wedding ring!
They both looked at each other at that moment, their eyes locking. Santana could see that a ring had been on Brittany's mind. Perhaps already planned. She conceded, she did love to be wooed.
Zinging in the air.
Now I don't have a care.
I'm winging from the zing that we share.
Zinging in the rain.
Now I'm feeling no pain.
It's a real time for celebrating cause you're my zing.
To the zing y'all, ba - da - bing y'all.
Gonnna knock you out right outta that ring y'all.
Better ring y'all, happening y'all.
Pay attention to the undead king, y'all!
Oh!
As everyone whooped "Oh! Oh!" They danced their way all the way to their room, humming the tune as they went. They stumbled to the bed as they dropped clothes along the way, meeting in a wanton kiss as they fell back onto the bed. It took only moments for them to fall into a perfect rhythm of love.
It was late and quiet had fallen over the hotel when Brittany gently woke Santana from her slumber.
"Wha…Britt s'dark, sleep…" she grumbled.
"Soon, soon, but come on." Brittany insisted and, with a great show of what Brittany assumed was meant to give an appearance of agony, Santana got up.
"This better be good." Santana said as Brittany wrapped her in a robe. She took her hand and kissed the back of it, a silent promise that it was. She led her down the hall to the stargazing deck. The fireplace built into the wall was crackling and fairy lights twinkled along the long since repaired railing. "Wow, Britt…" Santana said, looking up at the stars and the full moon casting its glow in competition with the artificial lights "How'd you do this?"
"I might have to go rock climbing with Johnny." Brittany chuckled "That's okay though. Take a seat." Two chairs were set beside a table with two glasses of champagne, no doubt stolen away from the party. There was also a platter of chocolate dipped strawberries. Brittany and recently been given the knowledge that werewolves could in fact eat chocolate. And it had changed her life.
"This is really sweet. I should've planned something." Santana said, already formulating the perfect surprise.
"No, no. I really wanted to do this for you. And I don't want you to try and surprise me too. Seriously. Being with you is enough." Brittany insisted.
"I feel the same way. You've really done too much Britt, you're too good to me." Santana smiled "But you really don't want me to do anything in return?"
"Let me make our room a bit den-like once we get our place, okay? That sound fair?" Brittany asked.
"As long as that doesn't mean sleeping in the dirt." Santana smiled softly. It would just be a little darker and a little cozier and maybe a little chilly.
"Of course not, my love, we'll have a great mattress." Brittany smiled. "Here, have a strawberry." She held one out and fed it to Santana. They sat there stargazing and sharing the strawberries, sipping their champagne, and enjoying eachothers company in the quiet of the night. As the fire started to die, Brittany took a small velvet box from the pocket of her robe. Santana was distracted with the stars as she got down on one knee in front of her chair. She turned back and saw Brittany's blue eyes glowing up at her.
"Britt…"
"Santana, the past few weeks here at the hotel with you have been magical. All my life, I've searched for love and for a sense of home, and even as Wayne and Wanda took me in, I'd never found it. Not until I stumbled into you in the hall did I know what it felt like to have some place- someone- feel like home. You're my home, and my love, and my world, and I know now more than ever that I love you. I've loved you from the first day and I'll love you until our last." Brittany smiled softly "So it is with my entire heart that I ask for the honor of being your wife." She opened the box, a gleaming diamond ring on a gold band.
"Brittany, wow, I…I love you too…and, God, yes of course I'll marry you!" Santana threw her arms around Brittany, happy tears spilling from both their eyes as the embers popped in the fire and the fairy lights twinkles started to dim. Santana let Brittany slide the ring onto her finger. "This must've cost a small fortune! How in the world did you afford this?"
"I trained a couple people while we were here, and apparently werewolf fitness trainers really are a hot commodity. That's how I secured the job too. This ring was worth all the hard work and every penny." Brittany insisted.
"It's gorgeous." Santana kissed Brittany softly. "Let's head back inside so I can thank you properly."
Brittany didn't want a ring after that thank you, even though Santana insisted she'd get one soon regardless of how many mind-blowing thank yous she received.
Their time at the hotel came to an end, but their time together had only just begun. They packed their things and Brittany said a tearful goodbye to Wayne, Wanda and their pups, promising to visit and babysit often. They'd miss her, but they knew that coming to the hotel would likely end the way it did. And they were so unbelievably happy for her. With Santana's parents, they departed, driving towards their future.
