Kakashi stares at the ceiling of his apartment while lying on his bed. Painfully aware that war can make people accept things that they normally won't. He learned that when he was young and its happening again. How can a person survive two wars in his lifetime?
Kakashi turned his head to the side when he felt the young woman scoot closer to him, her arm draped possessively in his abdomen. Staring at the woman's strange hair color, he can't help but think that the war made people accept what they have. Normally, this kind of relationship will raise many eyebrows but since the war is looming, they just look the other way, especially since they are shinobis and had an extremely short life expectancy.
"Kakashi." The woman murmured in her sleep.
Kakashi's heart break at the thought of leaving her. He was assigned to fight in the frontlines. He knows the consequences of wars, he lost everyone he held dear to it grasp, but she just knows about it in history books. Will he ever come back this time? Or like his friends will he meet his end there?
"Kakashi." Sakura muttered, pressing her face on his side. Her arm tightened its hold on him, as if she's sensing the turmoil inside him.
He placed a soft kiss in her head, afraid that she'll wake up and see the battling emotions in his eye.
"I'm sorry, Sakura." he murmured, and carefully extracted himself from her grasp. He felt her resist his exit but what can a sleeping girl do against a war veteran?
He changed into his jonin uniform and took the bag that he prepared earlier under their bed. His lone visible eye tracing the contours of her face. It will be a while before he sees her again. And that is if he even survive the war.
"Good bye, Sakura." He murmured in her head and placed a kiss in his cheek. And left.
Kakashi left his apartment and headed towards the village's central square, where the shinobi were gathering for their deployment. The atmosphere was tense, with the looming threat of war casting a somber shadow over the entire village. Kakashi was no stranger to this feeling, having lived through the horrors of a previous war. He knew the toll it could take on a person, both physically and emotionally.
As he joined his fellow shinobi, he couldn't help but think about the young woman he had left behind in his apartment. Sakura had been a ray of light in his life, a source of comfort and love in a world filled with darkness and violence. Their relationship had blossomed during a time when people were willing to accept whatever happiness they could find, knowing that their lives could be cut short by the brutality of war.
Kakashi had always been a solitary figure, emotionally scarred by the loss of his friends and comrades in the previous war. But Sakura had managed to break through his defenses, and he found himself falling in love with her against his better judgment. The thought of leaving her behind and not knowing whether he would return was tearing him apart.
As he stood in the square, surrounded by his fellow shinobi, he couldn't help but feel a sense of déjà vu. The faces of his comrades had changed over the years, but the feeling of impending doom was all too familiar. He could almost hear the voices of his fallen friends, their laughter, and their camaraderie. It was a bittersweet reminder of the sacrifices they had made for the sake of their village.
Kakashi's thoughts were interrupted as the Hokage, the leader of the village, addressed the assembled shinobi. The Hokage spoke of the importance of their mission, of defending their village and protecting their loved ones. The words were inspiring, but Kakashi couldn't shake the feeling of dread that hung over him.
As the shinobi were given their assignments and sent off to the frontlines, Kakashi couldn't help but steal one last look at the village he loved and the memories he had created there. He knew that the war would change everything, and he could only hope that he would return to see Sakura's smile once more.
With a heavy heart and a sense of duty, Kakashi set out on his mission, prepared to face the challenges and horrors that awaited him on the battlefield. But deep down, he carried with him the memory of Sakura's warmth and the hope that he would survive not one, but two wars in his lifetime.
