Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, council chambers, early evening.
9 year old Anakin Skywalker was both nervous and terrified to be standing before the Jedi Council for the second time.
"He is to be trained then?" inquired Qui-Gon Jinn.
"He will not be trained," Ki-Adi Mundi replied, blandly.
"No?"
"He is much too old."
"Ki-Adi, need I remind you the Padawan I presently share with Dooku, Galen Marek, came before us as a teenager, with rather disturbing origins, and he was trained?" asked Mace Windu, "and I brought Rahm Kota to the temple for training when he was a fully grown adult,"
"Those examples don't help."
"There is also your Padawan, A'sharad Hett.
Both he and his father were adults when they were trained."
"I will train him," announced Jinn, "I take Anakin as my Padawan learner,"
Frustrated at the neglect he'd received as of late, Obi-Wan snapped, "Sith's blood! You already have a Padawan!
And I'm standing right here, you bastard!" earning surprised looks from the outburst.
"Be mindful of your temper and your language, Padawan," lectured Qui-Gon, "anger and jealousy are not the way," who suddenly received a punch to the face from Kenobi.
"Oh, now you remember I exist?" scoffed Obi-Wan, "How typical."
"Obi-Wan, I believe you're ready to face your trials," interjected Jinn, changing the topic.
"Do you?" questioned Kenobi who accused, "Or do you just want me out of the way?
Are you just casting me aside because I'm of no further use to you?"
"The boy must be trained,"
"Oh, I agree, he most certainly needs to be trained, and guided in honing his latent abilities," firmly said Obi-Wan, "but not by you,"
Master Qui-Gon blinked in surprise, "Not by me?"
"It's a Jedi's duty to protect the innocent.
And if need be, I will protect this boy from you and your prophecy nonsense," declared Kenobi as he gestured to Skywalker, "You have no right to put such burdens on his shoulders.
He's a nine year old boy, for goodness sake." as he continued to argue with his mentor.
Ani's emotions overwhelmed him as he held back tears, then he felt a calming presence nearby as a human woman rose to her feet.
She was beautiful, slim, petite, and serene, with smooth light brown skin, and ceremonial gems on her forehead.
Long black hair in a low bun, and brown eyes.
She wore a light robe, brown tunic, a leather belt, pants, and boots.
Making no sudden moves as she sensed his anxiety, stress and fear, she approached Ani, knelt down to meet him at eye level, and gently wrapped her arms around him.
After a moment, the boy completely broke down as he returned the embrace, and cried into her shoulder whilst the room fell silent.
"It's going to be okay, let it all out, sweetie," she comforted, sending soothing vibes to Anakin through the Force.
"I'm scared," Ani sobbed, "please don't hurt me,"
"No-one here's going to hurt you, you're safe," she promised, "You're safe, and you're free, sweetie,"
"I'm free?" he asked, uncertain, "I'm not a slave anymore?"
"Yes, you're free, dear one."
As his stream of tears stopped, Ani looked into her eyes, "I can't remember the last time anyone held me in a comforting way, or how it felt,"
"There's plenty more hugs and cuddles where that came from if you'd like.
And they can be as long as you like, dear one,"
"Thank you."
"What's your name, darling?"
"Anakin Skywalker, but you can call me Ani,"
"It's lovely to meet you, Ani," she mused, "I'm Depa Billaba,"
"It's nice to meet you too." replied Skywalker who brought her into another hug.
Depa delicately asked, "I'd like to guide you in the ways of the Force, and the Jedi.
Is that alright with you, sweetie?"
"I- I get to decide?" stammered the boy, bewildered, "I get a choice?"
"Of course you do, sweetie," she assured, "and I won't force you to make it, or pressure your answer.
If you need time to think about it, take as long as you need,"
"Yes," decided Ani, as the Force guided him, "Yes, please, I want you to guide me." before the hug slowly ended.
Holding Ani's hand as they turned to the Council, Depa declared, "I claim Anakin Skywalker as my Padawan learner." with an unspoken "and we're not taking 'no,' for an answer."
"Very well," exhaled Mace Windu, "and while young Anakin has much to catch up on, we will assign a tutor to assist him in his studies once we know how he learns best,"
"Agreed."
Asking the most important question, Yoda smiled at the boy, "What you truly want, is this, Anakin?
Pressure you into or force upon you this life, we will not.
Your decision, and yours alone, it is.
Respect your decision, we will.
And welcome, you will always be."
Thankful for their understanding, Ani smiled back at the Sage, "Yes, Sir.
Being a Jedi, or at least what I imagined one to be, is the only aspiration that's kept me alive,"
"And why, a Jedi, do you wish to be?"
"To give hope to those who have none.
To protect myself and others.
I want to help people so they don't have to suffer like I did." answered Skywalker.
"How did you feel before opening yourself up to the Force, Ani?" asked the serene and spiritual presence that was Shaak Ti.
"I felt like I was numb to everything, unable to feel or breath, and dying inside," grimly answered Ani, "but when I opened myself up to the Force, for the first time, I began to feel truly alive.
It was like being able to breathe clean air after a lifetime of suffocating.
Like the warmth of the sun with no harshness, and like that moment just before the swings come back down,"
"I'm happy for you, young one."
"As a Jedi, will I have to call you my Masters?" asked Ani, "That word's brought me nothing but pain and suffering,"
"Not if it distresses or makes you uncomfortable, Ani," assured Shaak Ti.
"Thank you… what's your name?"
"I'm Shaak Ti," self-introduced Shaak, "it's lovely to meet you,"
"Likewise," returned Skywalker, "also, you're as stunning as the stars."
"Awww, thank you, young one." mused Ti as she approached, knelt down, and kissed Ani's cheek, "What kind of Jedi would you like to be, Ani?"
"I can't promise to be the wisest, by the book, rule following, or the most powerful," answered Skywalker, "but I hope to at least be a good person."
As she placed a gentle hand on Ani's shoulder, Shaak smiled, "Welcome to the Jedi Order, Anakin Skywalker,"
"Thank you, Shaak Ti," replied Ani, gratefully smiling.
"If you ever need anything, you can always come to me, young one," assured Shaak Ti, "I'm always happy to help."
"Hey… Depa?" asked Ani as he turned his gaze to her.
Meeting the boy at eye level, Billaba smiled, "Yes, dear one?"
"Will you be my new mum? Please?"
"I'd be honoured to be your mother, and to call you my son, Ani.
And I'll treasure you forever,"
"Yipee!" exclaimed Ani, making some of the Council share amused looks, as he embraced Depa, then brought Shaak Ti into the hug.
Mace inquired, "If you don't mind my asking, Anakin, what happened to your first mother?"
Ani frowned, "The bastard Hutts made me watch as they tortured, defiled, and murdered her, when I was two.
I held her hand as she died, and the worthless bastards laughed at us!
Then Jabba fed her corpse to his Rancor."
As he shed a tear, Windu solemnly closed his eyes for a moment of mourning, "I'm so sorry, young one,"
"You didn't do anything to me or her, so I don't understand why you're sorry," admitted Skywalker.
"I'm sorry for asking you to recall such a traumatic experience."
"Oh," understood Anakin, "thank you, Mace.
You're a lot nicer than you seemed during our first meeting,"
"The first time, I didn't have any information about you beyond your name and Qui-Gon's claims.
I neglected to learn more about you, in order to better understand how to communicate with you without hurting or offending you."
"So you didn't mean to seem like an angry, cold-hearted, and brooding asshole who scowls all the time?" blurted Ani, earning laughter from the present company.
With a chuckle, Windu assured, "That is the last impression I wanted to make, young Skywalker."
"I don't think Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon should go back to Naboo without backup," Ani mentioned, "What if they get separated while fighting the demon with the red laser sword?"
With a reassuring smile, Kenobi chimed in, "I'm sure I can handle him, Ani."
"Are you sure you'll be okay?
He almost killed Qui-Gon, and I don't want anything to happen to you."
Kenobi relaxed his posture, "Thank you for your concern, Ani.
I really appreciate it,"
"Ani has a reasonable point, Obi-Wan," interjected Depa, "And I shall come with you on your mission."
"Anakin, I recommend visiting the Halls of healing," advised Mace as he gave a gentle, concerned expression to the little boy, "it would be wise to find out sooner than later if there's anything we need to be aware of, medically speaking,"
"Can it wait until tomorrow?
It's been a really long day."
"Of course."
"Can I please call Padme, to let her know I'm okay?
She's one of the Queen's handmaidens,"
"By all means."
"Ani, could you please wait outside while we finalise some details with Depa and Qui-Gon?" requested Shaak Ti.
"By myself?" asked Ani, nervous.
"You won't be alone.
Senior Padawan Galen is waiting his turn to speak with the Council,"
"Okay."
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, hallway.
Exiting the Council chambers, Ani turned to a line of cushioned seats, and found a young Numenorean human man and a beautiful Zabrak woman, in their early 20s, in a close embrace, kissing.
The Zabrak was radiant, slim, busty, voluptuous, and curvy with milky white skin, small crimson horns upon her head like a crown, shoulder length, black braided hair, and crimson eyes.
She wore a black sports bra, cropped leather jacket, jeans, boots, fingerless gloves, and a belt holding twin tonfa lightsabers.
The Numenorean had lordly fair skin, shaved short dark hair, hazel eyes, and a starlight bright presence in the Force.
He wore a grey shirt, high collared cuirass, sleeveless surcoat, elegant cloak, black jeans, leather boots, a pendant, a silver ring, and a sheathed sword with a twin set of lightsabers on his utility belt, among other hilts.
The twin set was sleek and rectangular with angled pommels, and another hilt was slightly curved.
"Hi," greeted Ani, causing their lips to part.
"Hello, little one," greeted the Zabrak, "My name's Maris,"
With a nod of greeting, the older boy smiled, "I'm Galen, and what's your name?"
"I'm Anakin Skywalker," answered the boy, "you can call me Ani."
"Nice to meet you."
Noticing where Ani's eyes were looking, Maris teased, "Are you staring at my horns?
Or something else?"
Blushing, Ani apologised, "I'm sorry,"
"You've never met a Zabrak before, have you?"
"Besides almost being run over by the one with the red blade, no."
"Red blade?" asked Galen, concerned, "Where and when did this encounter happen?"
"Three days ago, on Tatooine, near the outskirts of Mos Espa, where I grew up."
"You were recently freed from slavery?" deduced the older boy who received a nod, then he gently held Ani's hand, "If there's anything I can do to help you overcome the traumas you've endured, you need only ask."
"I have friends who are still enslaved.
Can you help them?"
"You have my word, I'll do everything within my power.
And there are currently Jedi Sentinels finishing missions on Tatooine.
I can reach out to them for more information and support."
"If there are Jedi there, why didn't one of them free me or bring me to the temple sooner?"
"Jedi Sentinels often operate as trackers, scouts, stealth operatives, infiltrators, intel gatherers, and spies.
And their undercover missions can take years to make any progress."
"So they weren't in a position to help me?"
"They can't compromise their mission to help specific individuals, no matter how much they may want to.
But they can work with others towards helping the many in the long run,"
"Teamwork for the win." simplified Maris.
Admiring the designs of their lightsabers, Anakin asked, "Did you build these yourselves?"
"We did," confirmed Maris, "would you like to see what's inside one?"
"If that's okay, yes please." answered Ani.
Sitting on the floor together, Galen carefully disassembled a spare lightsaber, and explained each component to Ani who listened intently with full attention.
"I definitely wanna build one of my own as soon as I get the chance." declared Ani.
"We'll be happy to help if you like," offered Maris.
"Thanks."
"What would you like yours to look like, Ani?" asked Galen as he opened a holo-book cataloguing thousands of different lightsaber designs and variants.
"Has anyone ever built one that doubles as a blaster?
Or one that's another weapon or tool too?"
"Some Jedi have lightsabers built into special staffs they can use in martial arts and combat without igniting the blade.
Some of the older Jedi hide their lightsabers in a walking stick."
"A Tusken Raider as a Jedi would probably combine their lightsaber with their gaffi stick,"
"There are two of those who I'm aware of, and they did just that,"
"Really?"
"Yeah, and they've taken upon themselves a lifelong mission of de-escalating, preventing, and minimising conflict and bloodshed between the Tusken tribes, the Jawas, the farmers, off-worlders, and other settlers.
They've taken the role of Tatooine's Jedi Watchman.
A Jedi permanently assigned to watch over a specific planet or sector."
Exiting the Council chambers, Depa smiled at the friendship forming before her, "Young ones, thank you for keeping Ani company."
"It was our pleasure, Depa." assured the Padawans.
"And Galen, the Council's awaiting your report,"
"Understood, mother."
"I hope I'll see you two again soon," said Anakin as he hugged Galen and Maris.
"May the Force be with you, Ani."
Later.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Depa's quarters, evening.
Giggling to herself as she watched young Skywalker wolf down a small mountain of food, Depa asked, "A little famished, precious one?"
"I barely got any food at all on Tatooine," Ani explained, as he finished a mouthful, "as a slave, I had to wait until after everyone else ate, and needed permission to eat.
It'd be denied if my owner wasn't happy, which was most of the time."
Depa nodded in understanding, "Well, you're more than welcome to eat as much as you like.
But please make sure to give it time to digest,"
"Fair enough."
"Also, if you take your time when eating, you can taste the different flavours,"
"The only food I was ever given is oatmeal, by itself.
Didn't have much flavour, and it was made the wrong way,"
"It's a practical choice of food, though there's many ways to make it taste better.
Such as having fruits, honey, flavoured milk, or juice with it."
"There's lots of food I'd love to try, maybe we can get some cookbooks from the temple library," suggested Skywalker.
"That's a wonderful idea, Ani," mused Depa, "In the morning, I'll make you pancakes,"
"What are pancakes?" asked Ani, genuinely curious and oblivious.
"Thou knowest not of pancakes?" gasped Depa, melodramatically, "doth thine galaxy's cruelty to mine precious child knoweth no bounds?"
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Depa's quarters, bedroom, evening.
Sitting beside him on his bed, after they'd both showered and changed into PJs, she mused, "You're so cute,"
In protest, he folded his arms with a frown, "I am not cute," before bursting into laughter and squirming in her arms as she lifted his shirt, and tickled his tummy, "Hahahahaha hey hahaha,"
"Ticklish, my precious, treasured one?" she teased, then sweetly burst into giggles as his small hands slipped under her shirt and tickled her midriff.
Tucking Anakin in, after letting him win their tickle fight by a landslide, Depa kissed his temple, "Sweet dreams, Ani.
I'll be right here if you need anything, okay?"
"Thank you,"
"You're welcome."
Shortly thereafter.
As his eyes shot open in alarm, Ani breathed heavily, and turned on the bedside light.
Awakening upon sensing his distress, Depa sat by his bedside, "What happened, sweetie?"
"I had a nightmare,"
"Would you like some tea to help calm down?"
"What's tea?"
"A warm drink often made with leaves or herbs,"
"Yes, please."
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Depa's quarters, kitchen.
Billaba and Skywalker sat down at the table before she put the kettle on.
"In my nightmare, I saw a monster in black armour, a cape, and a skeletal mask," admitted Skywalker, "it had this really chilling breathing, and a red laser sword,"
Holding his hand, Depa assured, "Together, we'll find out what it means."
"What if it was my future self?"
"When granted visions, we may see many possible futures.
Nothing is set in stone, the future is always in motion.
However, if we're not careful, we can have visions distorted by our emotions,"
"Like what Qui-Gon said about how our focus determines our reality?"
"Indeed, and, speaking from experience, some visions may come to pass because of the actions we take to prevent them."
"Did something happen to you?
Or someone close to you?"
"It was twenty years ago.
I kept having visions of a Sith Lord killing two dear friends of mine who'd left the order to get married and raise their one year old son.
Their names were Kento of House Marek and Mallie Lorien."
"What happened?"
"I contacted them to warn them of the danger, but the Sith followed the transmission's trajectory right to them,"
"What happened to their son?"
"He resurfaced on his sixteenth birthday, as a Sith, then he and Shaak TI's Padawan fell in love which redeemed him.
You met them earlier this evening."
"I've been having the exact same nightmare for as long as I can remember," admitted Ani, as he was passed a mug.
"Really?" asked Billaba, concerned, "In the event of nightmares, the Jedi overseeing the Initiate clans meditate by the younglings in their care, while they sleep.
To determine whether or not their nightmares are a result of outside influence.
Shall we see if this helps?"
"Worth a shot," answered Ani, then he took a sip of his chamomile tea, "this is nicer than I thought it'd be."
"When I was his Padawan, Mace would make some for me after nightmares," reminisced Depa, "he's basically my father,"
"Cool."
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Depa's quarters, bedroom.
As she tucked him back in, and sat, cross-legged, next to his bed, Depa serenely meditated.
Interior: Ani's mind.
As a menacing, armoured figure approached him amidst the darkness, Ani tripped backwards whilst a crimson blade sprang to life, and chilling breathing echoed.
"Your destiny lies with me, Skywalker.
Give yourself to the dark side, it is your destiny," said Darth Vader, ominously, "you are all alone," before being launched back by the Force.
"He is not alone," declared both Depa and Shaak Ti as they appeared with an aura shining the light upon the darkness, and ignited their emerald and blue blades, "You trespass.
Leave at once, Sith,"
"You cannot stop me, Jedi." snarled the raspy voice of a deformed man with bright yellow eyes whilst Vader vanished.
"Join me, Anakin, become my apprentice, and together we can rule the galaxy," urged Darth Sidious, "give yourself to the dark side, kill them, and swear loyalty and obedience to me,"
"Who the hell are you supposed to be?" asked the boy.
"I am Darth Sidious, and it is your destiny to forever submit and serve me, as it is my destiny to be your Master,"
"Never!" refused Skywalker, "I'll never serve or join you!"
"If you will not be turned to the dark side, you will be destroyed!" hissed Sidious, seething with anger and hatred.
"Not if we have anything to say about it," interjected Depa and Shaak Ti.
"I am a Dark Lord of the Sith! Who dares defy me?" demanded Sidious.
Radiating a golden aura, Billaba and Shaak, in unison, serenely recited, "Throughout brightest day and darkest night, no evil shall escape my sight.
Let all who worship evil's might beware for the light of the Jedi Knights burns bright."
The Sith Lord unleashed a storm of lightning, but Ani, with Billaba and Ti's help, forced the Sith out of his mind.
Exterior: Anakin's mind.
Interior: Coruscant, Sith temple.
In the midst of their psychic assault on the boy, Sidious and Plagueis were so disoriented and infuriated by the Jedi's intervention, they were caught off-guard when two blindingly bright white blades, thin and curved to a point, impaled them.
Awoken by the disturbance in the Force as he fell from the ceiling, which he was hanging upside down from like a bat, Darth Maul landed on his back.
Getting to his feet, the Dathomir demon locked eyes with Galen, shaken to his core, "You? You're supposed to be dead!"
"Your Sith Masters are dead.
I'll give you this one chance to surrender, and live," stated Marek.
"And, er, what would you have me do, exactly?" questioned the Demon of Dathomir, "reject the dark side, and turn to the light side?
Atone for my sins by becoming a Jedi Knight?
Make some redeeming self-sacrifice to save the galaxy?"
"No," dismissed Marek who commanded, "Kneel before The Dragon of Zakuul." earning a primal growl from the Zabrak.
Extinguishing his secondary blade, Galen took an Ataru pose with his main, perfectly mirroring Qui-Gon Jinn's stance.
Lunging at the young Jedi Shadow with his saberstaffs ignited, falling into his trap, Maul was parried left, then right.
Then he moved to hit Marek's face with the middle of his hilt which was sliced in half as the white blade cut him down then decapitated him.
Decrypting the files of the three Sith, Marek downloaded every single one of them, then turned to an approaching presence.
As the spectral apparition of an old man, with grey hair, a beard and yellow eyes, in elegant armour confronted him, Galen advised, "Go back to the shadows from whence you came,"
"The spirits of the dead suffer none who live, my boy," dismissed Valkorion's spectre as he drew an elegant sword, "You cannot protect Skywalker.
The Chosen One will be mine, and I shall rise again." before slashing at Marek.
Drawing a two-handed, cross-guarded, Force-imbued, pure beskar, sword from his sheath, Galen raised its silver blade which glowed with a bright blue hue, "So long as you seek to harm others, you will suffer me," as their blades clashed.
"It cannot be," exhaled Valkorion, "that blade was broken, and the bloodline of its wielders spent!"
"I'm surprised one who's lived as long as you once did missed its prophecy,"
"What is this prophecy you speak of?"
"All that is gold does not glitter.
Not all those who wander are lost.
The old that is strong does not wither.
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken.
A light from the shadows shall spring.
Renewed shall be blade that was broken.
The crownless again shall be King."
"Come then, my boy, prove your steel," dared Valkorion.
"In twilight comes the blade of starlight to pierce the shadows
for a new dawn rises from the darkest night."
"Do you intend to defeat me with your blade or poetry?" scoffed Valkorion, "and you've taken my title? Interesting."
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Depa's quarters.
Waking up to find himself in the safety of Depa's arms, and Shaak Ti's, Ani smiled, "Thank you,"
"You're most welcome, precious one."
"How did you know to come help, Shaak?" asked Ani.
"I sensed your distress, sweetie."
"Can I have two mums at once?
Specifically both of you?"
With a shared look of adoration for the boy, Shaak Ti and Depa gently hugged him, "You certainly can, treasured one."
"Will you sing to me?"
Improvising, Depa and Shaak Ti soothingly sang, "Through the oceans of Manaan, to the dune seas of Tatooine.
Through the forests of Kashyyyk, to the jungles of Shili.
From the waterfalls of Naboo and islands of Ahch-To, to the mass shadows of Malachor.
From the deepest depths to beyond the furthest stars my heart speaks to me within the crystal upon my breast.
Ever present the Ashla shines through the darkness of the Bogan, for my heart is the crystal, and the crystal is my heart.
For I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me.
And so it shall always be whilst the kyber sings to thee."
In awe, Ani beamed as they snuggled up to each other, "You're amazing, mums."
"Thank you, son." mused both women as the trio drifted off to a peaceful sleep in each other's arms, with Ani in the middle.
Later.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, hangar, morning.
Escorted by his new mothers, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, Ani's eyes widened in awe of a sleek, black starfighter.
As his friend disembarked from the Rogue Shadow, Ani ran up and hugged him, "Galen!"
"Hello to you too," greeted Galen, "what's going on?"
"We're on our way to Naboo to help the Queen, and deal with the Sith."
"I've recently tracked down three Sith, and destroyed them.
I'm certain they're the ones you were being pursued by,"
"Three? What about the rule of two?" asked Kenobi.
"Two Sith Lords and one Sith assassin.
But they didn't care for the rule anyway.
I found evidence of them having plans to turn several Jedi, including Dooku, Krell, Sora, Quinlan, and Ani to the dark side.
As well as plans to turn me back to the dark side.
They've also had Sifo-Dyas assassinated for reasons I will only reveal to the Council."
"You must be really strong to take down three Sith Lords." commented Skywalker.
"I only fought one of them directly, and basically assassinated the other two while they were distracted by performing a dark side ritual."
Shaak concluded, "At the same time, they must've been psychically attacking Ani's mind when he was trying to sleep, the other night."
"The Nightsisters would be offended by the ritual the Sith used since it was a poor imitation of one of theirs."
"Who were these Sith?" asked Depa.
"Darths Plagueis, Sidious, and Maul."
"You'd best be on your way to brief the Council." advised Shaak Ti.
"I sent Proxy ahead with the full report, but I need to speak with Yoda."
"Do you wanna tag along on the mission, Galen?" asked Skywalker.
"I have some things to take care of, but I'll be there as soon as I can."
"Wizard!"
Turning to Jinn, Marek warned, "If Ani's hurt on this mission, I'll hold you personally responsible,"
"Me?" asked Qui-Gon, taken aback, "how will it be my fault?"
"You were assigned backup for your mission because you couldn't defeat Maul on Tatooine.
Ani's going with you, and he's been in the Order less than 48 hours, and has yet to have one day of training."
"I see your point."
Taking a small package from his ship with the Force, Galen handed it to Ani, "Open it,"
As Anakin unwrapped the package, he held up a long-sleeve chainmail shirt, "Woah, what's this made of? It's so light,"
"Pure beskar, also known as Mandalorian steel.
It'll protect you from blasterfire, and even a lightsaber."
"Thank you!" appreciated Skywalker as he eagerly put on the shirt.
Amused, Depa whispered to Shaak Ti, "It seems Ani's found himself a very protective older brother."
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Council chambers.
Having briefed the Council, Galen knelt as the lights dimmed and blinds closed.
Igniting his lightsaber, Mace motioned with his purple blade, "Galen Marek, by the right of the Council, by the will of the Force," and severed Galen's Padawan braid, "You may rise, for I declare you a Knight of the Jedi Order."
"Masters, there is a mission I would like to undertake involving
Tatooine.
It's come to my attention that crimes such as slavery are thriving there, and I request your approval to take action against it,"
"Tatooine isn't even part of the Republic, we have no jurisdiction there," cautioned Ki-Adi.
"Is that your way of saying I'm on my own?
Because I will act with or without your approval.
Be it alone or with an army, I will do my duty to the people of the galaxy."
"If you choose to do this, you will not have our public approval if things go wrong.
But privately, we will allow you to take a small team of Jedi with you," informed Adi, "so, who do you wish to join your quest?"
"I want Kota, Dooku, the Hetts, Tachi, Topal, and you,"
"Why the Hetts?"
"They're both Tusken Tribe leaders, and local support would be a great help if I end up causing a small-scale war."
"Why would that happen?"
"Jabba's a greedy slug who'd rather die than give up any power, symbols of power, or slaves.
And he has an army of mercenaries and guards."
Suspicious, Mace asked, "Do you intend to hire some of your own, to even the odds?"
"A specific variety; Mandalorians,"
"If you can afford their prices, and trust them, by all means make that unholy alliance, Knight Galen."
"Jaster owes me one after I saved his life, then prevented a skirmish between us and his people on Galidraan.
I'll call him."
"I sense you have something more to say," observed Plo.
"I encountered the ghost of Emperor Valkorion," admitted Marek, earning gasps and shocked expressions, "he fought me with the ghost of his sword.
I don't even know how that works."
A few days later.
Interior: Naboo, Theed, throne room.
Standing over the remains of hundreds of battle droids, accompanied by Padme, Panaka, her fellow Jedi, and some guards, Depa pointed her lightsaber towards Nute Gunray, "You are under arrest," before droid reinforcements showed up, only to abruptly shut down.
"What just happened?" panicked Gunray.
"It seems you're experiencing technical difficulties," quipped Kenobi.
Later.
Interior: Naboo, Theed, palace, banquet hall, evening.
Arriving at the celebration, Billaba was garbed in light ceremonial robes, which bared her midriff, and a sash over one shoulder, while 10 year old Ani wore a robe-like tux.
"I've never worn anything this fancy, it was always hand-me-downs and rags as a slave," admitted Ani, "heck, I've never even had socks before,"
"Let's be sure to find you some new clothes, and some variety as well,"
"I thought the Jedi wore robes as a uniform,"
"We make exceptions, and they never restricted the wearable colours of those robes,"
"Really?"
"Of course, sweetie."
"Do lightsabers have any colour restrictions?"
"While they do not officially, Jedi tend to avoid having red blades,"
"Because of the Sith?"
"Yes,"
"Okay."
After a moment, Depa noticed, "I see Obi-Wan's brought a date,"
Turning, Ani saw a cheerful Kenobi hugging a darkly robed woman, with olive green skin and cobalt eyes, "Who is she? She's very beautiful,"
"That is Luminara Unduli,"
"I'm glad Obi-Wan's found love,"
"Indeed, he's like my baby brother, so I am as well."
Then they were joined by a young Mirialan girl, Ani's age, with ocean blue eyes and olive skin, with small geometric tattoos across her nose.
She wore light purple robes and a fitted hood.
"Hello, I'm Barriss Offee," self-introduced Barriss, "who are you?"
"Hi, Barriss, I'm Anakin Skywalker," he greeted, "But you can call me Ani,"
The young Mirialan smiled, "It's nice to meet you, Ani,"
"Wanna be friends?"
"That sounds nice."
Noticing others doing it, Ani asked, "Would you like to dance with me?"
"I don't know how," admitted Barriss.
He suggested, "We could do that half hug thing and sway like everyone else is,"
"Okay." agreed Offee.
As the two younglings stepped onto the dance floor, they took each other by the waist, and gently held each other's free hand.
Gazing into each other's eyes, they smiled whilst studying each other in fascination.
Ani wondered, "I've never formally met a Mirialan before, being from Mos Espa on Tatooine.
Is there anything I should know so I don't accidentally offend you?"
"I have hair, I just keep it out of the way with my hood," answered Offee.
"What colour is your hair?"
"It's dark blue, which is naturally occurring,"
"Cool, and your hood is beautifully made," praised Skywalker.
"Thanks, Ani," appreciatively said Barriss, "Luminara made it for me whilst teaching me to sew,"
"That's cool."
"My Master could teach you to sew too," suggested Offee, then noticed he'd zoned out, "Ani?" before a tear trickled down his cheek.
It dawned on Barriss as she gently held him closely, "Oh, gosh, I'm so sorry.
I didn't mean to make you relive any painful memories,"
As the tear was wiped away, he sighed, "It's okay, you didn't know,"
"I should've figured it out from the details I had, and been more considerate with my choice of words,"
"I'll have to get past it," stated Ani who blinked, "also, you have a really bright glow like an Angel,"
Cheeks flushed, she smiled, "Thank you,"
"Anytime."
Exterior: Naboo, Theed, palace, balcony, evening.
Sitting next to each other on a cushioned bench, she asked, "Do you use the Angel lines a lot?"
"The only other person I've used an Angel line on turned out to be the Queen in disguise." admitted Skywalker, making her giggle.
"It's not that funny," he sighed, "although you have a really nice laugh,"
"Thank you, Ani," replied Barriss who asked, "Have you ever been swimming?"
"Nope, never."
"I could take you to the room of a Thousand fountains, and teach you how to swim in one of the pools, or at least how to float,"
"Thanks, and if we ever end up on Tatooine together, I'll show you the twin sunset,"
"It's a date," cheekily quipped Offee, making him blush.
"One I look forward to, Barr."
As he gave her a mischievous grin, she inquired, "What are you up to?" before bursting into relaxed laughter as he gently tickled her midriff and under her arms.
"You sure are cute, Barriss," he mused before he paused.
Gazing into her eyes as they hugged while holding hands, Ani smiled and she smiled back.
"Barriss, there you are, sweetie," sighed Luminara as she appeared before the two younglings slowly separated, "Obi and I were getting worried, love,"
"Sorry, Mum," apologised Barriss.
"It's alright, my treasure," assured Unduli who smiled at the boy, "and what's your name, young one?"
"I'm Anakin Skywalker.
You can call me Ani,"
"It's nice to meet you, Ani.
I'm Luminara."
"Are you and Obi-Wan a couple?
I saw you dancing together, and might've seen you two kiss,"
"If Jedi were allowed to marry, he'd have put a ring on me years ago," mused Unduli as she sat between them, then Barriss sat in her lap.
"You could marry, and just not tell the Council," Ani suggested.
"That's what we call 'pulling a Bindo,',"
"Was that the name of a Jedi?"
"Yes, Jolee Bindo.
The late Kento Marek also pulled a Bindo."
Ani wondered, "Depa mentioned him the other night.
Was he a friend of yours?"
"He was one one my best friends, and I helped his wife deliver their son,"
"How did you react when you found out about their relationship?"
"Found out about it?
I was their matchmaker."
"Are you Barriss's birth mother?"
"I am,"
"Does anyone know, or is it a secret?"
"Only Yoda, Shaak Ti, Obi-Wan, Stass, and Depa know she's my child,"
"I'm not sure what's more beautiful, the stars or the two of you," he stated.
"Thank you, little one," mused Unduli, "you're a sweet boy."
"What was Barriss' father like?"
"Honestly, there was no father.
I'm not entirely sure how to explain it,"
"When people say that on Tatooine, they either mean the father was a slaver, died before the child was born, or…
I can't say the other thing.
Not in front of Barriss, she's innocent and pure,"
Understanding immediately, Luminara clarified, "I'm being quite literal.
While Obi-Wan and I have had moments which could lead to having a child together, we always took precautions."
"Qui-Gon said I might be some 'Chosen One,' because my M-count was so high, and I literally don't have a father either," stated Ani, "If that's really all he cares about, regarding me, he can go suck a Hutt's tail,"
Erupting into laughter along with Barriss, Luminara mused, "I'm remembering that one,"
Offee observed, "It sounds like Ani and I are true children of the Force itself,"
"You are also blessings, love." replied Unduli.
"Is the headdress ceremonial and traditional, or a fashion statement?" asked Skywalker.
"A bit of both, but I don't need to wear it if I don't want to.
It keeps my hair out of the way,"
"You could just keep your hair short,"
"I do, but I also go to a few desert worlds, so my headdress keeps the sand out of my hair.
And keeps it dry in the rain,"
"I don't like sand.
It's coarse and rough, and irritating.
And it gets everywhere,"
"It certainly does."
"What kind of teacher are you?"
"Hopefully, I'm disciplined but not cold.
Impartial but compassionate.
Caring but not controlling.
Protective but trusting, and loving but not possessive," answered Luminara, "I've been taking notes on teaching methods and practices from the 'fun and chill Jedi,' so as to not pass on the so-called 'teachings,' of my abusive former teacher."
"The fun and chill Jedi?" asked Barriss, "What was your master like?"
Luminara sighed solemnly, "I rarely use such language, especially not in front of children, but I'd describe them as a kriffing schutta with a Force pike shoved up their shebs.
Personality-wise, as awful as the hate child of a Hutt and a Jablogian,"
Ani's eyes widened, "I don't even want to know what that'd look like, or if those species are even compatible."
Offee looked up at her mum, "I didn't know you had such a horrible teacher.
Is that why it took us a while to bond as a teacher and student, even though you're my mother?"
"Yes, it is," admitted Unduli, "I was trying to find balance between being your teacher and your mother,"
"Does there need to be one?"
"I suppose not, love."
"Do you ever wear any colours aside from black?" asked Skywalker, "You'd look amazing in robes that matched your eyes."
"Thank you, Ani," Unduli appreciated, "and I have a white set of robes for when I'm on duty in the halls of healing."
"Cool, and does it take a while to put your headdress on?"
"Sometimes,"
"Are your markings tattoos?
Or were you born with them?"
"They're tattoos."
As they stood up, Galen emerged from the shadows.
"Hey, Galen?" asked Ani.
"What's up?"
"Is it true you used to be a Sith?"
"Against my will, and I don't recommend it,"
"Was it hard to become a Jedi after being a Sith?"
"Very,"
"Okay."
"Are you alright, Ani?
I can sense you're afraid for someone else's safety,"
"My best friend, Kitster, is still in slavery,"
"I arrived here from Tatooine, earlier today, after eliminating several crime lords, and freeing the slaves of the settlements," mentioned Marek, "One of the kids from Mos Espa was named Kitster.
I let him know you were safe, and he sends his regards and his love,"
Hugging the older boy, Ani gratefully said, "Thank you, big brother,"
With a smile, Galen returned the embrace, "You're welcome."
Several weeks later.
Exterior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, courtyard.
"Please assume a defensive position, Form III," instructed Depa.
Readying himself as he ignited the magenta blade of his new lightsaber, Ani followed Depa's lead through the drills and movements of Soresu.
Later.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, creche dorms.
Noticing a five year old Togrutan girl sleeping nearby as he delivered a datapad to Stass Allie, Ani smiled in adoration before the Togruta's innocent blue eyes opened and met his gaze.
Gesturing, Stass introduced, "Anakin Skywalker, this is Ahsoka Tano,"
"Hi, Ahsoka," greeted Ani, with a smile.
Little Soka gleefully returned, "Hi, Skyguy."
"Hilarious, Snips."
As Stass giggled in amusement, Anakin asked, "Healer Allie, did you know the melody of your laughter is as beautiful as the singing of a Canary?"
Flattered, Allie mused, "Thank you, dear one."
"The whole thing on attachments being discouraged doesn't make sense to me, since we're also encouraged to connect to and love all life, and be compassionate and caring."
"We're allowed to love and care for others selflessly, but we can't let those connections and attachments affect our judgement when we need to make a difficult choice."
"Affect our judgement?"
"We can't risk a thousand lives to save one, no matter how deeply we may love that one."
"You mean like when a superhero is forced to decide between saving a loved one or an entire city, and chooses the people?"
"That may be the best example to use for one so young.
And we do try to save both when it's possible."
Out of nowhere, Ani inquired, "What was Galen's father like?"
"He was an unorthodox Jedi who cared very deeply for those close to him, and a great leader.
Growing up, he was quite the ladies man.
He was charismatic, clever, cunning, honest, adventurous, and bold, yet he was never arrogant."
"Were you in love with him?"
"At one point, to a degree, as were many of my peers.
Kento made friends easier than he made enemies, which is saying something for a great Jedi,"
"Cool."
As he walked in, Galen asked, "Hey, Ani, there's a race track not far from the temple, and some races for Pods and Swoops this afternoon.
Would you like to come with me?"
"Yeah!" excitedly answered Anakin who informed, "I'll need permission from my mums first, though,"
"I asked for their permission before inviting you,"
"Cool, is Maris coming too?"
"Yes,"
"Can I bring a friend as well?"
"The more the merrier."
As Offee walked in, Ani invited, "Galen and Maris are taking me to the races.
Would you like to come with me, Barriss?"
"Yes please, I'd love to come with you, Ani." accepted the Mirialan who was gently embraced, "I also love hugs.
They're always so warm, and they make me feel safe and happy,"
"I'm glad to hear it."
Later.
Interior: Coruscant, race track, stands.
Seated near the front row, the four Jedi set down their drinks in their chair's cup holders.
Reading the list of racers, Ani smiled, "Some of them are ones I raced against, and they weren't cheaters,"
"Here they're actually able to enforce the rules, and make sure there's no foul play," answered Maris.
"Cool, hey, do you think they'd let me race?"
"There's age guidelines under Republic law, so I don't think so,"
"Awww, but I love it."
"Maybe we can find a safer form of racing that's just as exciting.
And legal for you to participate in,"
"Okay."
"Who knows? Maybe we'll find a pod-racing league for younger racers so you can race."
"It'd be too easy,"
"It'll at least keep your reflexes sharp, and it's a good way to meet new people,"
"That sounds good."
"Well, well, little Anakin Skywalker," chuckled a Duro gunslinger in a brown coat and hat, who stood metres away, "The Hutts put quite the bounty on your head, kid.
Dead or alive,"
"And you are?" wondered Ani.
"Cad Bane."
Rising from his seat as others in the audience backed away, Galen stared down the bounty hunter, "Your bounty's bigger, and neither the Guild nor any reputable hunter goes after children,"
"Starkiller, you're still alive?"
"The boy is under my protection, so stand down or I'll take you down."
As Bane drew his pistols, a silver and blue armoured Mandalorian gunned him down.
"Su'cuy, Jango," greeted Marek as Jango Fett joined them, "nice to see you,"
"Likewise," returned Fett who turned to Ani and Barriss, "are you alright, little ones?"
The younglings nodded, "Yes, sir."
As he gestured, Galen introduced, "Anakin Skywalker, Barriss Offee, this is Jango Fett."
"Woah, are you a Mandalorian, Mr Fett?" asked Ani, in awe.
Humble, Fett replied, "I'm a simple man making my way in the universe."
"Galen gave me Mandalorian chainmail," mentioned Ani, "since I don't have my own lightsaber yet, he wanted me to have protection,"
"Looking out for you like that is the sign of a good brother." approved Jango.
Noticing the babies in Jango's arms, Barriss smiled, "Awww, who are they?"
"This is Boba, my son," introduced Fett, "and Omega, my daughter."
"Boba looks identical to you, and Omega looks like his twin," noted Offee, "are they clones?
I read some people have difficulty with reproduction, but either adopt or provide their genetics to a cloner instead.
And the gender of clones can differ from their template."
Fett blinked in surprise, "How old are you, my perceptive young friend?"
"Ten, and I'm studying to become a Jedi Healer when I'm older,"
"That's good, the galaxy needs more healers."
Later.
Exterior: Coruscant, level 1313, streets.
"I don't think we should be here, big brother," said Ani, "I have a bad feeling about this,"
As a Rutian Twi'lek girl, around 12 years old, whose skimpy outfit barely covered anything, timidly approached, she asked Galen, "How may I pleasure and serve you, Sir?"
"Who are you?" asked Galen, immediately putting a black poncho on her, and draping his cloak around her shoulders.
"I am nothing more than a slave to my Master.
He gave me no name.
Names are for people, I am property," solemnly answered the Twi'lek, "and modesty is a luxury I have no right to." horrifying the 4 Jedi, especially Anakin.
"Who do you work for, little one?" inquired Marek who thought, "Whoever it is will pay dearly for what they've done."
"Master Denturri, and he wants me back by a certain time or he'll find me, and hurt me.
He sent me out to lose my…" began the young Twi'lek who couldn't finish her sentence.
"Oh, he's so dead." thought Galen.
"He said he'll take it himself, in front of everyone at the club, if I don't get a customer to take it."
"Where is this scum hiding?" asked Marek, a furious fire burning in his eyes, as she pointed to a nearby club.
"Do you have any form of tracker or explosive on you?" Marek asked the slave, then she gestured to the collar around her neck.
Familiar with the design, Anakin disabled and dismantled the collar with tools from his new utility belt, "There you go."
"He'll just put another one on me, and kill you for doing that."
"No, he'll never hurt you, or anyone, ever again," assured Galen who turned to Maris, "Return to the Temple, escort her directly to the halls of healing, and find her some real clothes."
"Temple?" asked the Twi'lek, "Who are you?"
Unclipping one of his hilts, Galen held it out, "I am Galen Marek, Jedi Knight.
You'll be safe at our temple, little Numa,"
"Numa?"
"Unless I'm mistaken, it's a common Twi'leki name translating to sister.
You are a person, and your suffering will not go unavenged."
"Tear him apart, Nerra."
"Revenge isn't the Jedi way," interjected Barriss.
"Young one, there are some things that cannot be forgiven," replied Galen as he pulled his hood up, "some crimes deserve the justice of hatred."
Interior: Coruscant, level 1313, strip club, entrance.
Striding in with righteous fury radiating off of him in tsunamis, Galen, using the Force, crushed several assassin droids, disabled the speakers, locked the door behind him, and sealed the exits, then ignited his twin blades, causing everyone to freeze.
"Bruno Denturri!" roared Marek, "you have failed this universe!" whilst the staff, servants, performers, dancers, patrons, and slaves took cover.
"What do you want?" asked Denturri, a Zygerrian, his entire body trembling as he saw Marek's eyes, "Drugs? Weapons? Money? Women? Slaves?
I have some fresh- agh," before he was lifted off the ground by the Force whilst his throat constricted as Galen raised his hand, gripping the air.
"What I want is justice for all the lives you've destroyed!
Especially for the children!" answered Marek who disintegrated the Zygerrian with golden lightning, then freed every slave, hostage, and prisoner in the district.
As he arrived with several other Jedi and the police, Master Dooku placed his hand on Galen's shoulder, "You have done a great service to these people,"
"No, I didn't act soon enough,"
"Do not do that to yourself.
You couldn't have known this was happening,"
"I sensed the Sith hiding in their temple here on Coruscant, when nobody else did.
I should've been able to sense the suffering of these people.
The Council should've sensed it too."
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, halls of healing.
Assessing her patient, who now wore a long sleeved shirt and pants, Stass asked, "Where did you say you found her?"
"Level 1313, where she'd been sent out to lose her innocence for money by a filthy slaver," replied Brood, "Galen found her before anyone could touch her,"
"He's always had a soft spot for children.
And I suspect it's because of his own childhood's horrors."
Ani smiled, "Big brother's totally kicking people's exhaust ports right now,"
"He always is, but why were you all on level 1313?"
"We walked Jango and his kids back to their ship, which was parked there, after the races."
"Jango as in Jango Fett?"
"Yep, he saved me from another bounty hunter, Cad Bane.
Apparently the Hutts put a bounty on me."
"We need to inform the Council about this."
As he entered, Mace asked, "About what?" before he was filled in.
Upon a beep, a medical droid informed, "Healer Stass, this child has a Force connection suppression chip in her left forearm."
"We'd best extract it,"
"That bastard put a chip in me?" asked Numa.
"Yes," answered Windu, "will you please allow us to remove it for you?"
"Yep."
Later.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, classroom.
Seated next to Barriss, Ani was reading a textbook.
"Who's the new kid?" murmured one of the younglings, a human boy with fair skin, brown eyes, and dark hair with a gold streak, "Haven't seen him around, and he definitely wasn't raised here,"
"That's Master Billaba's new Padawan," replied a human girl in her late teens.
She was slender with light brown skin, shoulder length black hair with a braid, and blue-green eyes.
She continued, "He blew up a droid control ship while flying an N-1, during the invasion of Naboo."
"I was watching an outer rim pod race the other week, and he won it."
"My name is Anakin Skywalker." chimed in Ani, "who are you?"
"Initiate Ferus Olin." answered the boy.
"Padawan Trilla Suduri." replied the Padawan.
"Nice to meet you."
A few days later.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, dojo.
As Anakin practised deflection using Form III: Soresu, Depa mused, "You're doing well, Ani,"
"Thanks, mum," appreciated Anakin as he deflected another sting bolt.
"Maybe we should start teaching you to duel.
How does that sound, sweetie?" asked Shaak Ti as the drill ended.
"That sounds great, and do I face another Jedi, or a droid?"
"Let's start with one of the training droids."
As Ani activated the nearest droid, it assumed the form of a ghostly wraith in long dark robes and a skeletal mask, then it ignited a crimson blade.
"Holy crap!" exclaimed Ani as he retreated, and fell backwards.
Rushing in to see the training module of Darth Nihilus standing over Anakin, Galen bellowed, "Expecto Patronum!" which shut down the simulation.
Getting to his feet, Skywalker asked, "What was that?"
"Darth Nihilus, a Sith Lord from the days of the Old Republic.
I used a code phrase to shut down the training simulation of him." answered Galen.
"He's scary,"
"You wanted to borrow Proxy to help your duelling skills, didn't you?"
"Can I?"
"Yes."
Watching over the duel, Depa mused, "Thank you for being his brother, Star.
It means so much to him,"
"I'm glad to have him as my brother too.
He and I may have a planet of origin in common.
He has the fairness of a higher class of men, as I do."
"You say you're from a higher class of men with ironic humility."
"On my father's Homeworld, Numenor, Skywalker is one of the noble families.
And mine, House Marek, is the royal family."
"Ani's nobility by birthright?"
"Possibly. I know a little girl from their House was abducted many years ago, by a Zygerrian slaver.
That specific filth is Zygerria's Prime minister,"
"You're not thinking about breaking into the Zygerrian palace, and kidnapping him, are you?"
"No, I'm going to walk through the front door, and do things you'll need plausible deniability of knowing about,"
"I can't officially condone this, but I hope you come back in one piece,"
"It's me, and I'll take my HK unit with me just to be safe."
Later.
Interior: Zygerria, royal city, barracks, early morning.
Stepping inside to see all of the city's guards asleep in their beds, save for the King's personal bodyguards, HK-47 locked the gates behind him, turned to the guards, raised his weapons, and showed no mercy as he burnt the furry meatbags alive with his flamethrowers whilst shooting them with his custom rifle.
"Joyful exclamation: Burn, meatbags! Burn!"
Interior: Zygerria, palace, throne room, afternoon.
As the doors were ripped off by the Force, Galen, in elegant black armour with a silver Uneti tree on the chestplate, majestically entered.
"Who dares?" demanded the King of Zygerria.
As he ignited a golden blade with a snap-hiss, and cut down the guards, Starkiller stood tall and kingly, "The Phoenix of Numenor."
"What exactly do you want?" inquired the Zygerrian King, feeling quite inferior.
"Your reign of tyranny is at its end." stated Marek as he effortlessly struck the filth down in battle before turning his scowl to Prime Minister Atai Molec.
Ripping the information he wanted from Molec's mind, Starkiller disintegrated him and a small army of guards with lightning.
"How dare you?" snarled Miraj before shooting at him, but he deflected the blaster bolt into her throat.
Turning his gaze to the palace slaves who gathered, Galen freed them all of their bonds and collars.
Soon thereafter.
Exterior: Zygerria, royal city, palace, courtyard.
As he raised his hand, Starkiller reduced the palace to dust with the Force before summoning lightning from the sky which destroyed the city's power grids.
A few days later.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, hangar.
As the Scimitar landed, Ani turned to Depa, "Mum, isn't that Darth Maul's ship?" before seeing who disembarked, "oh, it was used for an undercover mission,"
"Indeed, dear one," agreed Depa, "however that ship was impounded."
"Does that mean he'll get in trouble for using it?"
"Well, he did steal it,"
"Its last owner is dead, so there's nobody to steal it from,"
"From a certain point of view." interjected Obi-Wan.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Room of a Thousand Fountains.
As he slowly stepped into one of the pools, Anakin, in black board shorts, joined Barriss who wore a navy, short-sleeved swim shirt and matching pants with a swim cap.
"Is there a dress code for swimming in the temple?" asked Ani, "what are the rules?"
"The only official rule they didn't put on the sign is no skinny-dipping."
"Is that a type of food?" he asked, completely serious, making her giggle.
"No, it's swimming naked,"
"Oh, that never happens on Tatooine, since the sand would get in all the worst places, and there's not much water."
As they relaxed in the waters, Ani quietly gasped at the sight of a slim, sexy, 20 year old, Chiss woman, with shoulder length navy hair, who wore a bikini that matched her bright crimson eyes.
"Are you okay, little one?" asked the Chiss.
"Sorry, I just-"
"Got spooked by the eyes?" deduced the Chiss, amused.
"Yeah," admitted Ani, "what's your name?"
"Sev'erance Tann, and you?"
"Anakin Skywalker."
"The eyes startle everyone, so don't feel bad about it," stated Tann, "it's made at least one civilian mistake me for a demon, or a Pantoran with an eye condition."
"What species are you?" wondered Skywalker, curious.
"My people are known as the Chiss.
We mainly keep to ourselves and our borders,"
"Cool, are there many other Chiss as Jedi?"
"If there are, they'll have returned to my people's home after being knighted or achieving the rank of Master."
"Like, as emissaries for the Republic or Jedi?" asked Barriss.
"More like self-appointed Jedi Watchmen." shrugged Tann who swam away from the two younglings.
As he floated flat on his back in a T shape, Ani asked, "Am I doing this right?"
"That's one way to do it," confirmed Barriss who stood next to his floating form, reached over, and tickled his exposed midriff, making him chuckle and wriggle beneath her whilst trying to stay afloat.
"Hahahaha no hahaha fair hahahaha," protested Ani who got to his feet before she hugged him from behind, still tickling him, "I'm hahahaha so hahaha getting hahahaha you hahahaha back hahahay for hahahaha this hahaha, Barriss hahahaha,"
Pausing as he turned around with a playfully vengeful look, Barriss grinned, "You'll have to catch me first, Ani."
Later.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, archives.
Exploring with Barriss, Ani was in awe, "I've never seen so many books.
I don't even know where to start,"
"I like this one, it's full of short stories," replied Barriss as she held out a copy of The Adventures of Tom Bombadil.
As two books caught his eye, Ani read the titles, "The Hobbit, and the Sith Lord of The Rings by Jedi Lore Master J.R.R Tolkien,"
"Ooh, they're classics," mused Offee, "and really detailed too,"
"Let's borrow them, and read them together," suggested Skywalker.
"That sounds like a plan, Ani." she agreed, "now we just need to find Madame Jocasta."
"Hello there," greeted Jocasta Nu as she appeared out of nowhere.
"Hey, that's Obi-Wan's line." joked Skywalker, making the old woman chuckle.
Later.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Depa and Ani's quarters, bedroom.
Sitting on the bed together, Ani opened the shortest of the books first, "Would you like to read first?"
"Yes please," replied Barriss as she started to read.
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Depa's quarters, living room.
As she passed by, Depa smiled as she overheard the kids reading together, and doing voices, "They'll be great friends, and an incredible team."
Interior: Coruscant, Jedi temple, Ani's quarters, bedroom.
In a cheerful, light tone, Ani read, "Ho, ho, ho, to the bottle I go.
To heal my heart, and drown my woe.
Rain may fall and wind may blow, and many miles be still to go.
But under a tall tree I will lie and let the clouds go sailing by."
With a smile, Barriss mused, "You're a natural singer,"
"So are you,"
"Thank you."
