Edalyn Clawthorne was having a fairly stressful week. Her sister Lilith was being a serious pain in her feathery butt, and it was once again that time of year when her ever so loving mother would come visit with another miracle cure for her curse. What would that make this, her twentieth or twenty-first attempt? Eda frankly couldn't remember anymore, but at least for now none of that mattered. Eda was having a calming quiet stroll through a forest in the Human world, and Titan dammit she was going to enjoy it. As she walked amongst the green trees beneath the stars and full moon, she heard a whimpering noise, and decided, why not investigate?

Following the weak whimpers, Eda found a small fuzzy lupin creature caught in a trap by one of its front legs. As she drew closer, Eda noticed a few things about the creature. It looked like a pup of some sort, maybe a wolf, with warm chocolate eyes, dark almost black fur, but what almost broke her heart was how emaciated it was. Even if it managed to somehow escape the trap, Eda knew it would die without some help, and probably within the next few days by either infection from its wound or exhaustion/starvation from not finding any food.

Something about the pain in its whimper or maybe it was just pity for the poor creature, but Eda carefully released the pup, and began to carry it home with her. As the wind blew through the trees and her graying orange mane Eda felt the pup tremble and shiver in her arms. Instinctively Eda drew the creature closer to her, and whispered to it, "Don't worry little one. Mama Eda is here. Don't be afraid." Whether it was the warmths of her body or perhaps the tenderness in her voice, but regardless the pup let out a small yawn and cuddled into her before falling asleep.

It took Eda almost two weeks, but by its end the pup looked healthier. She, as Eda found after getting her home, was finally able to walk around again, but nothing had prepared Eda for what she found the eighth morning after taking her in. When Eda had woken up expecting to find a sleeping pup curled up next to her, instead she found a roughly four or five year old little girl with the same little black tail and ears that her pup had, and a familiar bandage around her upper left arm from where Eda had patched her up the night before. The little spiked collar Eda had got for her still present around her neck loosely.

It took another week after that before Eda could coax her into speaking, and even then it was only one word, 'Lucia'. Eda figured it must be the little girl's name so that's what she started calling her. Much to Eda's surprise, once little Lucia was feeling better her little pup seemed to just disappear, and reappear in the oddest of places. Whether it was climbing tall shelves, or somehow getting into previously locked rooms (She even managed to find her way into and take a nap in Eda's largest potion's cauldron) Lucia just couldn't help but explore. Eda wanted to get mad more than once, but she just couldn't. Her little Lucia just had a way of melting her heart. Sometimes it was the way she cuddled up to her and gave her such warm hugs, or those adorable chocolate eyes, but Eda just couldn't help developing a soft spot for her pup.

Over the next two years they developed a system for when they went out. Lucia would stay in her wolf form, and act like a dog when others were around. While remaining in her Mama's hair most of the time, Lucia would act as a second set of eyes and ears, and occasionally she would slip away to pickpocket or pick locks while Eda distracted anyone who could notice her. Eda took a lot of pride in her little girl's skills. Sure she was easily distracted, but that also meant that she usually heard every conversation in a room at least well enough to make educated guesses, and Luz picked up on Eda's lessons like no one Eda had ever seen before. Sneaking, playing adorable (kid didn't have to try hard), reading both common and demon speech, and any other skill Eda tried to teach her Lucia she would put her all into trying to learn it.

It wasn't until a particularly bad Boiling rainstorm that their lives would change once again. The duo managed to find a small island among the mist, and temporary shelter beneath some trees, but then Lucia's ears flicked and she started looking around. After reaching down out of her mothers hair, and carefully taping the side of her head, Lucia asked, "Mama. Do you hear that?"

"All I hear is the rain, pup. Why? What do you hear?" asked Eda with a small smile as she indulged her daughter.

Lucia closed her eyes, and listened hard for a moment before saying, "It sounds kinda like a whisper. I-I think someone is trying to guide us somewhere. I can't explain it Mama, but… they sound so kind and desperate. I think we should follow it. If there is someone here, they must have a house, and we can't stay out here forever Mama or the Beast might come."

Eda saw the look of fear in her pup's eyes when she mentioned the Beast, and finding no reason to not at least try, she smiled at Lucia and said, "Ok Lucia, but you're going to have to guide us since I can't hear it. Are you ready, fur ball?"

Lucia let out a little happy giggle as she pointed toward where she heard the whispering while keeping her eyes closed so she could better focus. After a few minutes they found themselves standing before a massive aged tower. They hadn't found any evidence yet of someone else living here, and Eda still couldn't hear the whispering, but shelter was shelter. When they went inside Eda noticed Lucia's face scrunch up in annoyance, and after looking around to make sure it was safe she asked, "What's wrong Lucy?"

Lucia let out a grumpy huff, "As soon as we came in the whispers just stopped. What a jerk."

Eda let out a small laugh at Lucia's frustrated face. "Forget about them Kiddo. Lets just find a nice spot to wait out the rain, and once it passes maybe we can go get some of that frozen smogurt you like. What do you say?"

Lucia beamed at her mother, and gave her a hug as she let out excited yips having completely forgotten about the whispers for the time being. Together they found a dry, fairly clean corner of the room, and bunkered down to get some rest. Eventually Eda was awoken by the sounds of giggling and rocks being shifted as she noticed Lucia and a small horned and skull masked demon as they played with one of the many stone piles in the room. Eda couldn't help but smile at their antics as they played until she noticed some kind of monstrosity made of stone and fleshy goo slowly advancing on them.

Without a second thought Eda used Owlbert to blast the monstrosity with everything that she had in hopes of destroying it or at least slowing it down as she attempted to scoop up her pup, but to her surprise Lucia held on to the small demon protectively, and without another choice Eda simply held them both as she made their hasty escape. Eda only looked back when she heard the creature let out a gurgling roar as it didn't seem able to leave the tower.

When the now trio made their way back to the Owl House, Eda slumped down onto the couch in exhaustion, but as she watched Lucia showed the little demon some of her toys before leaving him alone for a minute. When she came back she had a red collar that she had outgrown a while ago, and presented it to him as a gift. He seemed confused at first, but after she showed him her own black spiked collar he let out a happy little squeak, and allowed her to put it on him. As the kids played Eda noticed him wearing an old cardboard crown she had found, and let out a small laugh as Lucia spun a little tale of kings, armies, and monsters.

The little demon wore that crown so long that they just started calling him King, and they never stopped. After a while it became clear to Eda that King was there to stay, and when she brought it up to Lucia she was surprised to find that Lucia wasn't just protective of her new friend, she had basically already decided that it was her responsibility to be his big sister. Despite her own hesitance to take in another mouth to feed, Eda just couldn't find any other option. Without knowing what kind of demon he was, where else he could go, or any way to convince Lucia to 'detach' herself from him her hands were tied. That was the day that the infamous all-powerful Owl Lady became a mother of two, and as exhausting as it was Eda didn't hate it as much as she would want people to believe.

Over the next few years, Eda watched as Lucia stepped up, and truly became the big sister she was meant to be. She never failed to be there for King, and while they would occasionally fight Lucia always ended up giving her little brother an understanding hug when they cooled off. Once night when King was having a particularly bad nightmare Eda watched in awe as Lucia tried over and over again to try and make a spell circle without any success until Lucia took a deep breath, and looking at King managed to make a tiny purple ball of light that seemed to enrapture King and make him forget his fear's like they had never existed in the first place. And it wasn't just her maturity that developed over those couple years, Lucia's fur and hair also started to take on a more dark purple sheen when seen in the right light, and even a pair of small demon horns started to come in.

When Eda asked her about her magic, Lucia just smiled and said that one night she had met a 'Really Big King', and he had visited her a couple times since then in a 'really dark wet place'. During one of their visits he had told her that he wanted to give her a gift for being such an amazing big sister, and ever since she had magic. Naturally Eda just laughed, and let her story go since Lucia had always had a very active imagination, but then Lucia scraped her knee. While cleaning it up, Eda noticed that her blood wasn't red anymore. It had a more pink hue to it, and after calling in a favor from a healer she knew, they confirmed that Lucia was exhibiting some demon and witch traits such as harder bones, innate magic, and some of the normal support structures found to support a bile sack, but oddly no bile sack was present. Their best guess was that somehow Lucia's blood was carrying her magic instead, but without more tests that was the best they could do.

One upside to getting checked out was that Eda finally learned exactly how old her pup was, seven in fact, since it had never really mattered to Lucia, and they had always just celebrated her birthday on the anniversary of the night they met. Beyond that an actual healer's visit had never really been necessary after their first one right after Eda had taken her in, and they had been more focused on saving her life at that point so such questions weren't really considered. These new developments did cause Eda to decide that officially adopting her kids was getting more important by the day so Lucia and King Clawthorne became their official names.

While Eda was teaching Lucia about some of the plants she uses in her potions, and other plants that can be useful in an emergency that spring, Lucia's ears suddenly started to twitch, and she ran off. When Eda caught up she found Lucia comforting a crying slightly short young witchling with navy blue hair, and olive green eyes behind round glasses. After a while they managed to console the girl enough to find out her name was Willow Park, and that her best friend had just up and cut ties with her for apparently no reason at her friend's eighth birthday.

Lucia just looked at the girl, and gave her a sweet smile as she said, "Forget about her Willow. I'll be your best friend, and I promise I will never push you away. So dry your eyes, and let's go have some fun. My Mama was just telling me about the uses for Stranglevine, and how you can use it as a…"

"As a rope to stop bleeding, and mash its leaves into a poultice to cut down infection," stated Willow, with a small smile.

Lucia just laughed, "Your awesome Willow. What other cool plant facts do you know?" Willow just giggled, and gave her new bestie a hug. For the rest of the day Willow took over the lesson on plants, and even managed to teach Eda a thing or two. While it hadn't been a perfect day, Willow would never forget it because that was the day she met Lucia Clawthorne, the coolest witch she knew.

For the next few years rumors of the Owl Ladies mysterious daughter started to crop up and spread, but since Luz never went beyond the woods around her house outside her wolf form nobody knew what she looked like. Even when she started to do potion deliveries for her Mom, Lucia always did so in her wolf form. The only people who knew that Luz the Wolf (Willow's suggestion) and Lucia Clawthorne were the same person was Willow, her dads, and later Gus after a whole year of being kept in the dark.

It had taken a fair bit of convincing for the Messers Park to be ok with their daughter spending so much time with Lucia or Eda, but after meeting them and seeing how much they cared about their flower they eventually caved. Mr. Porter was a whole other story, and eventually an agreement had to be made. A private interview with Eda, and the promise of the opportunity to interview Lucia when she eventually 'came out' ended up being his price. While Lucia just laughed at how ridiculous it sounded to her that anyone would care that much about what she had to say, Eda took the whole situation deadly serious, and made sure that every 'T' was crossed to ensure her family's safety. When Willow eventually moved out of the baby class and into Hexside proper, Lucia had been there to help convince her dads that the plant track was her best choice, and despite the fact that Lucia wasn't allowed to actually join them yet she still made sure to walk her best friends to school each morning on her way to sell potions in the market with King.

While Lucia regretted the fact that she couldn't join her friends at Hexside yet, she had to admit she didn't really need to attend right away. Between her hands-on experience in beast, plant, potions, and some healing magic from working with her Mom on potions and acquiring ingredients she proved very capable without needing to cage herself with official lessons. She was even second only to Willow in terms of plant magic, and Willow was Hexsides plant protege much to a certain witchling's pride and shame. While the fact that Luz the Wolf was often seen around them, and rumors persisted that they must have met Lucia. Both teens would only laugh when asked, and admit, "They might have, but they couldn't tell anyone what she looked like due to an oath they swore."

It wasn't a complete lie either. They had sworn an oath, it just hadn't been an Everlasting one like people choose to believe. That's not to say her friends didn't offer to do so, but the Clawthorne's had adamantly refused to entertain the notion. In Lucia's words, "If they have to magically bind themselves in order to protect her, she would rather they never saw her again, and she would sooner turn herself in for petrification then endanger them like that." She did give them both a big hug though in appreciation of the fact they were willing to go that fair to protect her family.

Unknown to everyone else though, around the time of Amity Blights twelfth birthday she had a run in with a certain wolf after a particularly intense punishment from her mother had left her battered and bruised in the woods by Blight manor. Lucia never spoke during their meetings, or to anyone about them on Amity's request, but Amity soon came to trust her quiet companion, and because of that Lucia became her secret keeper and only true friend, even if Amity never realized who she really was.

Eventually Eda had to cave though, and as a present for Lucia's fourteenth birthday Eda announced that Lucia Clawthorne was finally going to be making her grand debut just in time for Hexside's winter semester much to Lucia, and her friends joy. The only question that remained was whether they would just have Lucia join the beast track right away, or if they would have her make a splash by having a zero day, and in true Clawthorne fashion a splash was what they'd make.

AN- Happy Spooktober all. I guess you can consider this Au my October Special for this year. In all honesty I've been finding alot of werewolf Luz Au's of late so I thought why not a monster Au of my own, and no 'Daughter' doesn't count as one. It's more biblical than monstrous. For the rest of the month I'm going to focus on this world, after that I'll go back to writing what inspires me at the moment (kinda still doing that but let me have my spooky fun). Shine on beautiful Spooksters. Shine on.
