Mirror mirror on the wall, who was the cutest of them all? That's right, it was her, Himiko Toga!
She fiddled with her knife, twirling it dexterously in her hand as she hummed a song that was playing in her head. It was an old one, from a singer in the age before quirks. Himiko couldn't quite remember the name of the artist, only that it was something… fast. Something Swift? Taylor Quick? That didn't sound wrong, but it also didn't sound right.
Oh well! It didn't matter. It was a cute song and it fit a cute girl like her!
She wondered how she should spend her day. She didn't have class, haven't had them for a year now, perks of ditching school permanently!
But she had slept in later than normal, and it was already getting to the point that nearby schools were finishing up classes. Not a huge deal, it was just that she was hungry. Maybe she could get a parfait? Or a milkshake! She recently saw a new place had opened nearby and posted a bunch of pictures on their HeroGram. If she happened to stop by an alley or two and have a blood bag as a snack then who was to stop her?
No one! That's who!
Himiko giggled to herself as she cut through an alley and skipped through it. It was a shortcut to her favorite sweets shop!
Well. It would be a shortcut if it wasn't for the two hooligans in it. They were fighting, or something, but it seemed to be really one sided. There was a blonde haired one, and a green haired one. The blonde haired one had spiky hair, had tiny little flashes coming out of his hands and was sooooo loud.
Way too loud for Himiko's liking, but she knew how to make loud blood bags become quiet blood bags. And that was to simply give them a new makeover with her wonderful knife!
The green haired one had curls and a fluff that was absolutely adorable. So adorable that she just wanted to run her knife through it and see how soft it could be.
But, as it was, neither of them seemed to notice she was right behind them. The blonde one was shouting something about quirks and how useless the other one was, but she didn't care about that! She was simply twirling her knife and attempting to do a new trick with it!
Himiko flipped the blade twice in her hand, spinning it in her palm and then letting it tumble between her fingers. It was so much fun to do so and the concentration required just made it all the more fulfilling when she completed it, next she just had to catch it and-
Oh. It flew out of her hands.
The knife sped towards the delinquent duo of blood bags and impaled itself into the wall, right next to the head of the blonde one. It seemed to be a surprise to the two as both of them screamed in response to it.
"Oopsies!" Himiko said, getting close to them and grabbing the handle of the blade. "My knife slipped!"
The blonde one seemed a lot paler than he was earlier, and even took a few steps away from her. Himiko didn't have a clue why, she was just trying to retrieve her knife!
"F-Fuck off and mind your own business." The spiky haired one stuttered and spat, before he turned and walked quickly out of the alley.
Himiko gasped. That was rude! She didn't do anything wrong! It was an honest accident that her knife slipped! It could have happened to anyone!
"Thanks…" The curly green haired one said.
Hmm? Was he talking to her?
That was odd. She couldn't remember the last time someone said thank you to her. What did she even do?
She wasn't sure if it was because she didn't respond, but the green haired one started to mumble to himself.
"Today was a tails day, so I was expecting it to be bad, but I didn't expect Kacchan to be so upset over the recent test scores… I'll have to look out for that in the future but at least my notebook is safe and-"
The muttering was a rapid fire stream of consciousness that Himiko only bothered to listen to the first few sentences. It was likely she wouldn't have even understood any of it if she wasn't so close and her hearing wasn't naturally gifted. She tuned out the rest and focused on the first sentence.
Tails day. What was that? Like an animal tail? Dogs had tails and they were cute, but cats had even cuter ones! They were so often fluffy and seemed to have a mind of their own!
"What's a tails day?" Himiko asked, not caring that she interrupted his muttering.
"Huh?"
"Tails day. You said it while you were mumbling. Is it like an animal thing? Cats are cute animals but what does a tail have to do with the day?"
Curly hair, she was gonna call him Curly from now on, seemed to look at her as if she said something nonsensical. Which was completely unfair to her, he was the one who said nonsensical things, not her! She just asked a question.
It took a few moments but it seemed as if Curly had eventually processed what she was asking, as his cheeks lit up in an embarrassed flush and he broke eye contact.
"It's stupid." He told her.
"Why? Is it something cute? I like cute things."
"N-No it's-" He sighed, as if resigning himself to explaining. "Every day when I wake up I flip a coin, if it's heads then I'll try my best and make the most of the day. But if it's tails then I'll relax and use it as a rest day of sorts."
What the heck? That sounded neat! "Oh! So today was a tails day so you let that kid yell at you!"
Okay! Everything made sense! That was a cool system. Maybe she'd adopt it? It sounded super neat to do.
"W-What? No! He's just…" He sighed again. "Thanks for helping me. I've gotta go before my mom gets worried."
Himiko briefly considered forcing him to stay so he could become her new blood bag for the evening, but thought against it. He had taught her a cool new thing to do in the mornings, so she'd let him leave. That blonde from earlier would know they met so it wasn't the best idea anyways. Wouldn't want him to go missing randomly!
"Okay! Bye bye Curly! I hope you flip a heads tomorrow!" Himiko waved the green haired not blood bag off.
He gave her a strange look before returning the wave and exiting the alley they were in.
Himiko took a look at the place those two were having their shuffle in. There was a singular piece of paper left over, likely from one of their backpacks.
UA Application form. It read.
Huh.
She knew what UA was, it was that top hero school that everyone loved!
Well, almost everyone. She wasn't really a fan but it wasn't like they did something to her personally! She just wasn't the biggest fan of heroes! Most of them just cared about their popularity and that wasn't cute at all!
She glanced over the application, it was fairly basic actually, especially for such a prestigious school. There wasn't even a spot to fill other what quirk someone had, which was really surprising. She was almost sure that they would have filtered out applicants based on their quirk, but maybe not?
Oh well. It didn't matter to her, she wasn't interested in applying anyways.
Himiko was about to stuff the paper into a nearby trash can when she frowned and thought back to what Curly said earlier. The best way to get into a new habit was to start immediately, and she had a few coins in her wallet.
There wasn't any harm in flipping one after all.
Himiko dug out a coin and flipped it, catching it as it fell back into her palm. Opening her hand revealed…
Heads.
"Hmm…" Himiko grumbled.
Heads meant to try your best… So she would try her best and fill out the application. Sending it in wouldn't hurt, then she'd get a nice milkshake after!
She'd fill it in at the cafe! Because food came before anything else!
Himiko frowned at the line for her current address. She didn't want to tell them she was living in an abandoned apartment complex without anyone knowing. That just wasn't smart!
She was a villain (self proclaimed) after all! Her quirk was villainous and she could hold her own in any fight. To let just anyone know of her secret lair would be asking them to waltz in and ambush her!
Luckily she had a PO box for online deliveries, she'd just put the same address as that and call it a day.
As for the transcript it asked her to attach… she didn't have it! She remembered her grades from when she still attended school, but an official transcript was just something she didn't have access to.
Ah well, she'd just write in her grades on the back of the paper.
Flipping a heads just meant that she had to try her best, not that she had to actually succeed.
With everything taken care of, Himiko enclosed the application in an envelope and sealed it. She made sure it was addressed to the right place before she exited the restaurant, milkshake in hand, and put it into a mail chute.
With that, her best had been attempted.
And her best left her craving a dessert, one with lots of blood! She'd try her best to find a nice one this evening, maybe she'd even find that loud spiky blonde?
Himiko smiled. She was already liking this new system she set up!
