A morning in the clinic wasn't exactly how Anabel expected to start the day, rushing through corridors with her eyes showing a multitude of emotions, mostly anger and fear. She woke up with the news that a few officers were injured in the night by not only a group of Pokemon, but also two Ultra Beasts alongside them. Three of whom became severely injured, one with light lessons and one missing.

After asking the doctors and nurses where the officers rested, the elite officer finally found them, patched up and connected to vital support. Her fingers touch the glass and eyes shrink with guilt and terror. Her teeth grit against each other and one hand, becoming a fist, punches the glass in wrath, a wrath that wanes quickly. A nurse tries to comfort Anabel, placing a hand over her shoulder and explaining what happened. The officer reluctantly accepts her comfort, knowing well that getting angry at this moment would be in vain.

"I don't know very well what happened…" the nurse narrated, speaking very softly. "They came at night with other officers. Apparently they got ambushed, but that's all I could hear."

Oh, Anabel knew very well what it was. It was better for the nurse to remain ignorant, for her own safety. It was better to never know the existence of the Ultra Beasts, she thought.

"Ambushed by a group of Pokemon apparently? That's what I heard…" the nurse continues, her arm now lies next to her waist "Weird for wild Pokemon to show such behavior."

"Most probable," the officer turns around and gives the other a faint smile and a sigh slithering through her lips. "Perhaps they walked in a pack of them and retaliated against the trespassers, but we can never know until they wake up." She lies.

"We will do our best!" The nurse replies with a smile too. "A doctor should come soon, maybe you could ask what injuries they went through… if you want."

"Thanks." Anabel whispers and sees the other walk away. Turning around to see her subordinates again, she wonders of their encounter with the Ultra Beasts. But making assumptions was in vain, or better said, she wasn't in the mood for it, and decided to leave the clinic, needing some sunlight and fresh air, an open space to clear her thoughts.

As she walked down stairs, corridors and doors, Anabel reached the outside. The sea breeze and morning sun welcomed, although briefly, as the woman sought shade under a palm tree. There she took a cigar from her pocket and placed it between her thin lips. She couldn't eat anything before leaving her home and a little smoke would help to calm her hunger and anxiety.

From an inner pocket, Anabel took a lighter and lit the cigar, taking a deep breath then pushing the smoke out. Her eyes narrow, becoming lost in thoughts and the environmental noise fading away, focused on that accursed incident.

Five went on a mission, three were severely injured, one went missing and the last one sustained lesser injuries, with the latter explaining what happened. Sam was his name, explaining they were ambushed by two Ultra Beasts, but what concerned them the most is that wild Pokemon were on their side. He couldn't explain, it was the first time he saw something like that. Anabel refused to accept it as truth, but it was her own stubbornness that refused. Maybe the Ultra Beasts learned this ability somehow, and it wouldn't be out of the world considering their extreme versatility and little knowledge they had of them.

The Pokemon and Beasts attacked them. They fought bravely to stop their onslaught but it was futile, and in the end, he was the only able to escape. One remained behind, called Nicole, so the other four could run; but they were chased and only he was able to leave the forest.

A hand rubs her eyes and a groan escapes, concerned about the lost member, thoughts diverting that the worst has already happened, them becoming forever lost in the tides of Ultra Space, and that was the positive outcome. Surrounded by enraged Pokemon could only lead to dim results.

"Boss, you shouldn't be smoking so early in the morning!" A familiar voice brought her back to the world, eyes looking up and seeing another officer from the International Police. Sunlight came from behind and a radiant smile rested upon his face. It was Looker, her long partner in many adventures and tragedies.

"I know." She replies with an exhausted voice. "I had a long shift yesterday, I didn't sleep properly and this… this whole situation forced me to wake up early. I cannot fathom why our superiors didn't put me in charge this time." From what Looker could see, Anabel seemed to not have slept since days and was in a sour mood. "I needed this to remain with the living." A soft chuckle escapes as her head tilts to the left.

"I assume you haven't eaten yet." His features soften and gray eyes look up and down. Anabel gestures with a gentle shake from her head. "Well, we must go for something. I cannot risk having you fainting every five minutes and that nicotine makes you lose appetite."

"Alright alright sir!" Anabel said jokingly. It was always like this, with Looker being so caring and worried about her health. Anabel appreciated it nonetheless, it was good that someone cared about you. "I fancy a lemon pie and soft coffee, I doubt my stomach can handle an espresso right now." Anabel takes the cigar and places it on a small cylinder of metal. "So, do you know the news?"

"Yes, a terrible thing." His expression shows worry and pity, and his eyes look down. "Nanu was working at night and called me when this happened. I came here at five in the morning and talked to Sam." The one with light injuries, Anabel thinks. "These were UB-02 Beauty and Absorption alongside several Pokemon fighting with them, yet this is the first time this has been recorded."

"So you haven't slept ever since?"

"No, I spent an hour here then I returned to the headquarters… and I slept on my chair."

"Dear Arceus, your back truly must hurt." Anabel flashes a smirk. "I'm still in denial of the situation: the Pokemon helping them, one of our guys missing and… you get the point. I doubted what Sam said, but there is always that possibility."

"I doubted him as well." Looker sighs and puts his hands inside the coat's pockets "Sam was exasperated, maybe confused by the whole event, but him being so persistent made me change my opinion. The UB mind controlling Pokemon makes me shiver in fear."

"I will ask our superiors if I can lead a group to investigate." Her eyes look to the left, seeing people and their Pokemon walk along the sidewalk happily. "There's a big group deployed to find the missing officer, but I want to do another one to investigate closely, and I hope you can come as well, Looker." Her hand moves upwards and a dainty finger points at him, pressing against his chest. "We cannot let two UB roam around and hurt both people and Pokemon alike."

"It's not like I can refuse, Boss. You are my superior afterall." He smiles tenderly, and even if Anabel wasn't her boss, he would've joined her despite it. "Will Nanu join us as well?"

She shrugs. "He's been busy with other cases involving mafias and his Kahuna duties." She suddenly stops "You know what, maybe we should get going, now I feel hungry."

"Oh, right!" He turns around and Anabel follows his lead "It's not so far, just a mere block away. Also, did you know a new event is being organized?"

"Another carnival or some sort?" She ponders. Alola had many of these and another one wouldn't be out of the blue."

"Negative, but a tournament organized for elite trainers!" She instantly notices his excitement. Looker has always been interested in Pokemon battles "The Alolan's Pokemon federation wants to increase its prestige and be seen on par with other regions' championships, and invited legends around the world to help, participate in a small tournament and for local trainers to battle against them."

"Oh, that sounds interesting…" They stop walking, waiting for the green light to cross. "And do you know who these legends are?"

"Not really, but I am thrilled for this to start!" Looker looks at her "Would you be interested in competing? You are one of the best trainers I've ever met."

Anabel hums very softly, almost inaudible. She never had any fascination for tournaments or proving to be a renowned battler. No, all of her battles were to save people, to stop illegal organizations or to fight against otherworldly things. Yet, there was a weak lingering emotion, a curiosity to know if she could take on elite trainers and champions from other regions. Afterall, she and her team are the best in the Interpol.

"I will think about it." She says as the green light turns on and both cross the street "Now I got intrigued as well, but for now, my main objective lies somewhere else…"

"Well, if you change your opinion, I am sure you will win." A soft laugh "And here we are."

It was a cafe store, with a few clients drinking coffee and eating delicious pastries. It had Kalosian fashion which stood out from the rest; with two women working in the morning, one cleaning the counter and the other sweeping the street and caressing a Purugly who slept on the entrance, which the Pokemon replied by swaying its tail one way to the other. It didn't want to move from there, enjoying the sun resting on its belly.

"It is pretty." Anabel whispers.

"Indeed! I found it one afternoon after a checkup with the medic, and I thought it would be a nice place to rest and drink coffee."

"Did you have an appointment with the doctor?"

"Something small, just a small check up."

"You are getting old." She giggles and Looker does as well "Shall we go inside then?"

They go inside the shop, walking carefully to not step over the feline Pokemon. Anabel takes a seat and looks at the clinic, her palm used as a support for her head, deep in worry once more. She couldn't take out of her mind the status of her coworkers and the lost officer, but also of the abominable Ultra Beasts. She groans, wondering the reason why they were interested in this world and on people, and thinking of the lost people, her mind drifts towards those found suffering amnesia called Fallers, the worst of all she being one of them. When Nanu and Looker found her, Anabel could only remember her name and about fighting in a tower.

And this brings other terrible memories when she went through tests and experiments, many of them involving her psychic powers. An hypothesis was formed that this new energy, the Ultra Worm energy, could improve humans and make them go beyond their limitations. However, as more people went through the same experiments, all of them didn't develop psychic powers or other anomalies, which gave the conclusion she was the only one or a psychic before the incident.

Anabel hated this, to be robbed of her previous life and memories, to be forever tainted with Ultra energy and be a threat to all who surrounds her.

"Is there something wrong?" Looker's voice makes her snap and come back to reality.

"N-No," she says shaking her head. " Just thinking about our guys. I hope they can recover…"

"They will, they are tough to kill."

He places down two cardboard cups, some donuts to eat and a lemon pastry for her, the sweet aroma making Anabel salivate and to start eating the pastry. "It's delicious." She said before taking another bite. "It is super sweet and fresh."

"I also bought some donuts, many flavored with chocolate and strawberry" Looker takes a drink of its own coffee "So, what will you do today? Perhaps you should rest considering it is your free day."

"I thought about it, but I cannot be idle today after what has happened." A quick sigh "Perhaps just a small nap then I'll return to the clinic. And you?"

"I have to interrogate members of Team Skull who have been terrorizing certain neighborhoods."

Her head tilts to the left, wondering why they picked Looker for that task. He helped long ago to thwart Team rocket and its remnants, but the Team skull were just punks compared to the former. Either way, Anabel thinks, if they are causing issues, then there was no choice but to stop them.

"Most of them are brats," Anabel says before taking a sip of her coffee "Annoying brats, that is. Their acts of vandalism should be punished severely, but I thought Nanu was in charge of the interrogations of Team Skull members."

"We are trying something new: he captures them and I do the questions."

"I am sure they prefer the good cop rather than the bad one." She laughs, using a hand covered in black leather to cover her lips, and thoughts drifting to Nanu. An experienced officer and trainer he was, working in the Alolan Police department and the International Police. The dark specialist became her guide when she first joined the Interpol. He is of a cold exterior, cynical, and sometimes rude; yet despite his flaws he was a good person, always seeking for the good of all people.

"You flatter me, boss." his right hand scratches the back of his head "But in truth, Nanu sometimes can be quite confrontational with our detained individuals. He detests when they try to appeal to emotion or lie."

"I hope I never get interrogated by him." Anabel jokes again.

"You, doing something incorrect? I completely doubt it." Looker takes a bite of a chocolate donut, then suddenly, his eyes show concern. He raises his hand and looks at his watch and unconsciously stands back "I should be going, otherwise I'll be late for the interrogation." Looker says while taking his coffee and gray eyes look at his boss "I am sorry I must leave you alone."

"I understand, no worries." Anabel waves her hand, understanding his situation "I will see you later then, Looker."

"See you soon, boss." Looker turns around and leaves with a hasty step while Anabel looks at him to go away, walking on the sidewalk only to become lost amidst a multitude of people.

Alone once again, the woman thinks about her coworkers, if they were doing better, but barely half an hour has passed since the last time she saw them. Anabel reclines against the soft chair, lamenting this day. She felt a heavy burden upon her shoulders, exhausted by the lack of sleep. The prospect of returning home and sleeping for hours was too tempting. She would drink her coffee and leave.
