It has been a long time since Kurt has been in such a bad mood. His dad is on a business trip, Carol is working a night shift and Finn is in his room to play video games if he isn't at Rachels to do things Kurt doesn't want to know about. The only thing he looked forward to was a beach party at a fake beach across town. Of course it was Santana's idea to go. She's single and the girls, or for Kurt the boys, will probably wear revealing clothes. He would've had to leave early to cook for him and Finn but the brothers decided to tell Carol they cooked and Kurt bringing take out after the party. Still means he can't stay too long but longer than when he would've had to go when he has to cook. Maybe leaving early isn't so bad. He isn't exactly in a party mood but plans made with Santana Lopez are not to be canceled.
After a look at the time Kurt realizes that if he doesn't go now he'll be late. With a groan Kurt looks at himself in the mirror one more time. Hair, outfit, everything's fine. At least something is going good. He doesn't even bothers to say goodbye to his brother. Shoes on and out of the door, trying not to miss the bus. He gets it but the traffic is horrible. He texts Santana, telling her that he'll be about 20 minutes late and is happy when she says that it's fine. Looks like they all had a little trouble getting there in time.
When the chestnut haired boy finally arrives at the location the people around him are already dancing and having fun. And drinking. Of course. "C'mon guys. It's not even 6 pm" Kurt mutters and starts searching for his friends. People don't see what's around them, thinking the dance floor is theirs and theirs alone. A person stumbles back into another and before he can react Kurt feels the warm sand underneath him. And a handsome guy on top of him. The handsome boy quickly gets off him "Sorry. Oh my god I'm so sorry". "It's fine. Wasn't your fault anyway so you don't have to apologize" Kurt answers and takes the hand the other man offers him. A spark.
The stranger pulls him up and apologizes again. "You really don't have to worry ahm..." Kurt trails off and the other man holds out his hand again "Blaine". "Kurt" the chestnut haired boy answers and shakes the other boys hand. Electricity. Like a shock. But a good shock. A warm shock. Only hesitantly Kurt pulls back his hand "Well I better go and find my friends. I'm already late". The curly haired boy smiles "Good luck. I hope you find them quickly. It was nice meeting you Kurt". "Likewise Blaine" the other boy smiles, turns and leaves.
Now it doesn't take Kurt long anymore until he finds Santana, Quick, Puck and Sam in a corner. "About time Lady Hummel. This was more than twenty minutes" the latina says as she hugs her best friend "C'mon let's get you a drink". "Non-alcoholic please" Kurt answers and follows his friends to the bar. There's a linen. Long but not too long. Now that they have to wait anyway Kurt takes the time to greet the rest of the group properly as well and catch up with them a little bit. As if they weren't in school together until a few hours ago. An exhausting school day. One that only add up to Kurt's bad mood. Surprisingly it's already much better now and it probably doesn't have much to do with the fact that he found his friends. Maybe more with the cute boy with hazel eyes, the curly hair and the bowtie. Blaine.
About 10 minutes pass until the friends are first in line. Kurt just orders lemonade, same as San, while the other three order something with alcohol. While waiting for their drinks the friends continue to talk and enjoy the music. Maybe this could be a really good day after all. Once the drinks are done the friends pay and decide to search for a place to sit and hang out before storming the dance floor.
"Careful" the chestnut haired boy hears behind him just before someone bumps into him and half his drink lands on the sand. "Can't you look where you're-" Kurt stops "You". "Long time no see. Kurt was it right? Sorry but the line kept pushing" Blaine apologizes. The other man can't hide his smile "People are just annoying today. Blaine right?". The questioned boy nods "What were you having?". "Oh just lemonade" Kurt waves it off.
The curly haired boy nods. Now that it's his time to order he turns to the bar "Two lemonades please". He pays and takes both glasses, passing one onto Kurt "Here". "Oh you don't have to-" Kurt wants to say but the other boy shakes his head, resting his now free hand on Kurt's shoulder "I want to. Really". "Okay thank you" Kurt smiles and then turns to the side "These are my friends Sam, Santana, Quin and Puck. Guys this is Blaine". "Hey guys" the boy smiles and everyone says hi back to him.
"I would introduce you to my friends too but they are somewhere on the dance floor, drinking and making a fool of themselves" the boy laughs nervously. "You don't drink?" the chestnut haired man asks and the other boy shakes his head "Anyway, I should go now but I'm sure we'll see each other later again". "Or bump into each other again" Kurt laughs and waves before looking after the other man.
"Uhh. Lady Hummel met someone" Santana creeps up behind him and the boy could only roll his eyes "We bumped into each other two times and that's it". "Well. We could make sure you bump into each other a third time" Puck laughs but Sam holds the two back "Leave him alone. We won't force anything". "Besides I'm sure the two will meet again. Like faith. You two would look cute together" Quinn adds with a smirk.
For now Kurt lets it slide. This is just how his friends are and he feels a little better, not wanting his bad mood to creep up again. He huffs and smiles before following his friends to the dance floor. Luckily they find a spot that's not too crowded and the group happily starts singing, dancing and, besides Kurt and Sam, drinking.
After a while the drinks are empty and everyone out of breath. So quickly they get a new round of drinks, the bar more empty this time, and find a cozy spot to sit. A bench, a sitting bean and a large blanket. Kurt barely sits down on the bench before he puts his drinks down next to Sam "I go to the toilet quickly. Sam watch my drink?". The blonde boy nods and Kurt leaves, hoping that there won't be a line.
The girls have a line. A long one. The boys don't have one so Kurt goes in to do his business. After that he washes his hands and checks his hair in the mirror quickly as the door opens again and a familiar face enters together with an unfamiliar one.
The two rush inside and shortly after Kurt hears someone vomiting. A second later one of the two boys leaves the cabin again. It's Blaine. "Is he okay?" Kurt asks half worried and half curious. "He will be. Just drunk to much" the curly haired man answers with a sigh. "Can I help?" the other boy asks and Blaine nods "Maybe have an eye on him shortly so I can make a phone call?". "Sure thing" Kurt nods and goes to the boy, bowed over the toilet and emptying his stomach.
"Hunter? Hi. Could you come to pick up your boyfriend? I know it's earlier than expected but he's wasted and currently vomiting. 20 minutes? Okay yes. I'll see you then" Blaine speaks into the phone and hangs up again. "Could you maybe watch him for a second longer so I can get him a glass of water?" he asks again and again Kurt nods. "Thank you. His name is Sebastian by the way" the curly haired boy adds before he leaves.
It only takes Blaine a few minutes until he comes back with a big glass of water "How is he doing?". "I'm doing fine thanks" the boy answers, still sitting on the ground but not throwing up anymore. "He stopped about two minutes ago" Kurt answers the question and Blaine nods in response. "Here Seb. Drink this" he then says and crouches down to his friend "Hunter will be here in a bit".
They all wait until Sebastian emptied the glass before they decide to slowly leave so they are in time for Hunter to pick him up. "Go to the front with him. I'll meet you there. I'll see if I can get some more water for him" Kurt says as they leave the restroom, Blaine supporting Sebastian with walking and Kurt leaving towards the bar.
"Who is he?" Sebastian asks slurring while they make their way to the front. "Kurt. I met him today. It's the boy I ran into" Blaine tells, sitting Sebastian down on the floor so he doesn't have to lift half of his weight anymore. "He's cute. You should go for it" the drunk boy says, making Blaine laugh "He's here with his friends and we are too remember?". "It's Nick and Jeff. With me gone you're basically third wheeling. Spend some time with him" Sebastian says and laughs.
"Here. I got a bottle of water and a bag. Just in case more of his stomach wants out on the way home" Kurt says and the other two boys thank him. All three now wait for the car to pull over and while Sebastian takes some sips of the water now and then the other two boys just sit on his left and right looking on the street, concerned to Sebastian or simply at each other.
Only moments later a car finally stops next to them and a boy slightly older than them gets out. "Hey Blaine, thanks for calling me. Hello my loving, drunk idiot" he greets and then looks to Kurt "Hi. I'm Hunter, Sebastian's boyfriend and apparently his drive home". "No not home. Parents" the drunk boy slurs. "It's okay baby. We go to my place" Hunter answers. "I'm Kurt. A friend of Blaine" Kurt finally introduces himself, not sure what else he could've said.
"A friend of Blaine that I never heard of" the older boy says with a raised eyebrow towards Blaine. "We only met today" Kurt adds quickly. "Can we go now? I'm tired and hungry and I want to cuddle with you" Sebastian asks, closing the cap of the water bottle. "Cuddles only when you're sure you're done throwing up" Hunter laughs and helps Sebastian to stand up. Up on his feet Sebastian stands really close to his boyfriend and he can't help but giggle "Hi" before leaning in. "Na ah" his boyfriends stops him with a finger on his lips "No kisses until you brushed your teeth". "Oww. Not even a short, tiny peek on the lips?" the younger boy pouts.
At that even Kurt and Blaine have to laugh. "I think I got it from here. You two go back inside and have fun and thanks for waiting and taking care of him" Hunter says and guides his boyfriend to the passenger seat. Kurt and Blaine both wait until the car drove away before they turn to go inside again. "You're going back to your friends?" the chestnut haired boy asks shyly.
For a moment Blaine considers what he can answer, thinking about what Sebastian said. "I don't know. Nick and Jeff are probably enjoying their couple time or so" he finally says. "Then maybe you could sit with us? We could talk without bumping into each other or taking care of someone drunk" the other man suggests. About that Blaine doesn't think long "I'd love to".
Within a few minutes the two boy found the group, still sitting where Kurt left them. Only that Santana now sits next to Sam where Kurt sat. The only spot left for the two now is on the blanket in the sand. "You took long" the latina comments with a smirk "Hello again Blaine". "He was kind enough to help a friend out who drunk too much. Sorry for keeping him away from you guys. I hope it's okay if I join you guys for a bit" Blaine asks and the group nods "Sure".
Luckily they passed the bar on their way back to the group because Blaine's glass was empty anyway and Kurt's glass now too. Side note if you want your drink to last never let Sam watch it. With their drinks the boys sit down on the blanket and immediately start talking. "So you and Sebastian are here with a couple. Why didn't Hunter come too?" Kurt asks curious. "He has to finish a presentation for a meeting on Monday" the other boy answers. "He works? Makes sense. He looks a little older than you guys" Kurt nods. "A little. He was two classes above us but we were in the glee club with him. That's how he and Sebastian met. Now that he graduated he moved out but still got involved in his father's company which he should take over one day while he is in college" Blaine tells.
"And you are still in glee club? That's awesome. My friends and I are in glee too. Which school are you guys going to?" the chestnut haired boy asks and sees Blaine nod "Yes Sebastian, Nick, Jeff and I are all still in glee. The Warblers at the Dalton Academy". "then we probably must've met before. McKinley High School Now Directions. You guys are really good" Kurt compliments. "Yes you too are also very good. I really adored your last performance at Regionals. Sure it's sad that we don't get to go to Nationals but you definitely deserved it more" Blaine returns the compliment.
"You said that your friends are getting wasted. Why don't you? Driver or no drinker in general?" Kurt asks. On that the other boy gets quiet for a moment. A short, inner conflict until he decides to talk to Kurt. He's easy to talk to, caring and Blaine feels like he can trust him. "I'm the driver because I don't drink. I don't like it. Not the taste and not what it can do to people . Yes some drink responsibly and they are fun to be around no I don't tell people not to drink but it's not for me. Some people may not know their limits like Sebastian. And then there are people who let it get out of hand, lose control and power over their limits and their behavior. Like my dad. I can see what alcohol can do to people when I go home for the holidays. He's kind of aggressive most of the time. That's why I stay at Dalton over the weekends and only go home on holidays and why I don't drink. What about you?" Blaine tells.
For a moment Kurt is speechless about what Blaine just told before he can focus on the question "I enjoy drinking once in a while. As long as it tastes good and isn't only there to get you drunk but today I just didn't feel like drinking. Also I have to babysit the neighbors kid tomorrow morning so I prefer not to drink now". Again it's silent for a moment but it's a comfortable silence. "If you ever want to talk about your dad or something know that I'm here for you" Kurt says "If you want to of course. I know we only met tonight but I'm a good listener". "Sure. Thank you. Why don't you just give me your number and I text you. Doesn't necessarily have to be about my dad" the curly haired boy says.
They exchange numbers and when Kurt wants to give Blaine his phone back their fingers touch again. There's the spark again. This time more like ants crawling all over their skin, tingling softly. "So you're how old exactly? 16? 17?" the chestnut haired boy asks. He knows they're about the same age but they didn't talk about that yet. "16" Blaine answers "You?". "17" comes in response from Kurt. "We're almost the same age" Blaine says, his eyes shining with excitement. They talk more. About everything and nothing. About school, about glee, music, hobbies and after school. They also talk about families a bit but Blaine tries to keep it simple as he doesn't really like talking about his family.
"My mother often stays in the office after hours. At least that's what she tells us. I already told you about my dad and my big brother moved out as soon as he finished high school. He's seven years older than me and lives in California now. But tell me about your family" the younger boy says and Kurt nods "Sure. Uhm. My mom died when I was seven. She had cancer. But two years ago my father married again. He met his new wife because her son and I are in glee together. Now I have a step mother and a step brother. My dad owns a tire store but by now he's a congressman so he doesn't actively work there that much anymore and my step mother, Carol is a nurse. And even tho my dad isn't too big when it comes to emotions he reacted very well when I told him that I'm gay. At first I was afraid to tell him because I didn't know how he would react. But I think that's all I can tell".
"You're gay?" Blaine asks, his eyes shining even more than before. "Yeah. Not always that easy at school but my family and friends support me" the older boy tells and Blaine nods "Tell me about it. I'm gay too and my family didn't really react well. I didn't plan to tell them at all but something happened at my old school and it got out. After that I transferred to Dalton. No bullying tolerance and I can get away from my parents and they don't have to see their gay son that often".
"What happened at you old school? If you feel comfortable to tell me of course" the chestnut haired boy asks. Blaine sighs. He doesn't mind talking about it. Anymore. But normally he doesn't talk about it to people he just met. On the other hand, there's something different about Kurt. And he's gay so he's most likely to relate to it. "I got bashed by a group of boys two years above me. I spend a week in the hospital and transferred to Dalton where I had the chance tp recover properly" Blaine tells, his eyes fixed on the drink in his hand.
He only realizes that he has been starring when he feels Kurt taking his free hand "I hate that stuff like that happens to people like us. The whole queer community just wants to be a human like everyone else". "Well welcome to Ohio" Blaine laughs dryly. "When did it happen?" the older boy asks and Blaine doesn't have to think too long "A year ago. Almost exactly now". "I don't know how bad it feels but I can imagine. I know what it's like to get treated differently" Kurt says. "You do?" again Blaine's eyes shine, this time with worry glittering in them. And hope. He's not alone.
"There was this jock at my school and he always bullied me. One day my brother, Finn, and I wanted to leave after school but I forgot something so I went back inside. There he was. It looked like he was waiting for me and them he force kissed me. Turns out that the homophobic jock is actually gay but not outed. He wanted to do more, satisfy his needs. But Finn came in because I was taking too long. He caught us. Me trying to push him away while he as unbuttoning my shirt. Finn saved me that afternoon. I got a cracked lip and Finn a black eye but the jock got a broken nose. We told my dad and he talked to the principle. He got kicked out but went to a school in the same district so he often got in my way and threatened my life for ruining his. At some point it got so bad that my dad talked to his. They moved and I have my peace" Kurt finishes and this time it's Blaine squeezing his hand.
"When?" he asks and the other boy answers "A bit more than two years. We were pretty much the same age when bad stuff happened to us". "15" Blaine only answers "It's not fair that he was afraid of being openly gay and decides to punish you and use you to satisfy his needs. I was afraid of coming out too but I wouldn't treat others badly because all of that". "Let's change the subject. This got pretty deep and we're at a party after all" Kurt says, looking up and putting on a smile but not letting go of Blaine's hand. "Yeah right. But it feels good to talk to someone who can relate. Nick and Jeff are really lucky with their family and school and Hunter and Sebastian could relate to my family situation but none of them got bashed or anything" Blaine tells and the other man nods "Whenever you want to talk now I'm only one call away". "Okay now let's dance" he then adds, jumps up and pulls Kurt up too and to the dance floor.
They dance for about an hour when Kurt's phone starts to ring. He excuses himself and goes to the side. While Blaine's and Kurt's friends continue to dance Blaine steps aside too. He can't hear who Kurt is talking to or what they are saying but Kurt doesn't look too happy. For a short moment he thinks about standing next to him. Then again the call could be private or serious. Still he decides to go, stand next to him and put a hand on his shoulder.
"I know we agreed on pizza and tell mom you cooked so you can stay out longer but could you come home?" Finn asks on the other end of the phone. "Now?" Kurt asks and the other boy just hums "Mhm. I don't feel well". "What's that supposed to mean?" Kurt didn't intended to make it sound so harsh but he was having a really good time. "I threw up a few moments ago" Finn mumbles and only now Kurt realizes how bad his brother sounds. "Okay. Take a big bowl with a bit of water on the bottom and put it next to your bed. Drink a ginger ale and take a heating pad for your stomach. Lay down in bed and I take the next but home" he orders and Finn answers "Okay, thank you". With that he hangs up.
"What happened?" Blaine asks and the older boy sighs "My brother got sick. I gotta go and take a bus home". "Let me drive you" the younger boy immediately proposes but Kurt shakes his head. "No. Better you stay close to the party in case your friends get wasted too and you need to bring them home". "Then at least let me bring you to the bus stop so we can enjoy a bit more time together" Blaine then says and on that the other boy agrees "Okay let me just say goodbye to the others". While Kurt says goodbye to his friends Blaine goes to his and tells them where he's going and that they should call him if they want to leave or something.
"Okay let's go" Kurt then says, taking Blaine's hand. Both boys can only smile at the touch as it feels like they are glowing. With their fingers intertwined they go to the bus stop together, talking about everything and nothing. They don't mind holding hands. Somehow it feels right. Natural. Like it belongs. "How long do you have to wait?" Blaine asks when Kurt checked the schedule. "20 minutes" Kurt answers and sits down on the ground, his legs crossed.
Blaine does so too. For a second both freeze in place when their knees touch before Blaine's hand reaches for Kurt's again, holding it tight. With his free hand Kurt takes his phone and sends a quick text to Finn before he decides to open his camera "I still need a picture for your contact". "I need one for you too and we need to make some of us together" Blaine adds and also takes his phone out. A few minutes waiting time pass while the boys make photos, grimace on them and try out normal, cute and silly Snapchat filters.
"A bit less than 10 minutes still" Kurt says before he puts his phone away again. By now they are holding hands again, looking at their hands, each other or just forward and listening to the music. It's a bit muffled but still quite loud and clear. A slow song comes on and Blaine can't help but start to sing and sway. He is more than happy when Kurt's voice joins his and they continue singing as a duet.
The song ends and changes to a pop dance song again. "You're really good" Blaine compliments and the other boy answers "You too. This was really good". "We sound good together" he adds and Blaine's eyes widen "Good? More like amazing! We should do this more often". "Yeah definitely" Kurt nods with a smile that Blaine returns and Kurt wants to look at forever.
They stare at each other for what feels like forever until, one drop, two, three. Kurt's nose, Blaine's eye and quickly the drops get more and faster and the rain starts pouring down out of the sudden. It's almost refreshing in the warm summer evening but Kurt didn't really plan on getting wet. Not only does the weather change but also the music as 'Don't Stop Me Now' starts playing. Suddenly Blaine jumps up "I love this song" and starts dancing like no one is watching him. Which is almost true because Kurt doesn't mind. He can only smile.
"What are you doing?" Kurt asks "You're getting completely soaked". "You too. And I'm dancing and make the best out of it. Come on, try it. It's fun" the curly haired boy says and pulls Kurt up on his feet. Both boys laugh as they dance in the summer rain like they are the only people in the world. Because that's what it feels like right now. "People will think we're drunk if they see us now" Kurt laughs and the other boy answers "Pah! I don't need alcohol to act like this. It's called simply being happy".
"Yeah me too" the other boy laughs and starts to dance even wilder to try and keep up with Blaine's energy. He steps, turns and bumps into the curly haired boy who can just barely keep them from falling. He holds Kurt, both not daring to move, standing close. Really close. Their bodies touching. Their faces only inches away. Looking, no staring, into each other's eyes. Ocean blue meeting honey sprinkled hazel. "Third time's a charm" Blaine whispers. He doesn't dare to speak louder. This is too perfect. Like a movie. Or a book. Like the couple who can finally have their happy end together.
Thinking the exact same thing Kurt leans forward, closing the last bit between their faces and softly laying their lips on Blaine's. It's not a hot and fiery kiss but soft, tender and romantic. Two boys, kissing, at a bus stop, while a cool summer rain comes down on them. Soaked and out of breath from dancing but that's the last thing they care about at the moment. Only the lights of the bus break them apart moments after. The boys smile at each other as the bus stops and opens the door. Quickly Blaine presses a kiss on Kurt's lips and says "Text me" before Kurt has to get in.
Besides two other people the bus is empty so Kurt sits down on a place where he can still see Blaine. The doors close and the boys wave at each other with a big smile on their lips and a warmth in their bodies as the bus drives away. Only when the bus is out of sight Blaine turns around to go back inside and find Nick and Jedd again.
At home Kurt sends Blaine a text, telling him that he's home now and looks after his brother but will text him again later. After making sure that his brother is okay he prepares a new bowl for Finns bedside and gets him another ginger ale. After that he goes to the kitchen. Time to make dinner. But before that he text Blaine again, asking if he's home well by now. Not even a minute later his phone starts to ring with an incoming call.
"I was just about to text you. I just got to my room" Blaine greets. "Good. I already changed in dry clothes and now start cooking dinner. You?" Kurt answers and hears the other boy laughs "I'm just changing. My clothes are soaked. I got take out on my way from Nicks to Dalton. I'm too lazy to cook now". While Kurt cooks the two boys talk about everything and nothing. Kurt just makes a salat for himself and a light soup for Finn. He takes everything upstairs and first goes to his room where he puts down his salat and his phone "Wait here. I quickly bring my brother his soup". "Not like I could run" the curly haired boy laughs. Kurt rolls his eyes "You know what I mean". "Yes. I won't hang up and now go before the soup gets cold" Blaine answers and without another word Kurt leaves his room.
"Okay I'm back" Kurt says and sits down with his phone and food on the bed. "Great now we can eat" Blaine answers, leaving Kurt stunned "You waited?". "Yeah. I thought it would be nice to eat together" the other boy says. "Okay then, let's eat" Kurt says grinning.
"I really enjoyed the evening even though I had to leave early" Kurt says after dinner. "Me too. How about we do that again? Properly this time" the curly haired boy proposes. ""Like a date?" Kurt asks. "Like a date" Blaine answers with a laugh. "I'd love to" the chestnut haired boy grins and the other man answers "Great. How is this weekend?". "Yes sire. Sounds good" Kurt answers and the younger boy grins "I'll text you the details".
They talk a bit more but soon enough Blaine hears how Kurt reacts slower, speaks more quiet and says less. "Let's hang up for today Kurt. You're almost asleep" the younger boy says and hears a "Mhm" from Kurt. It makes him laugh and shake his head at the same time. Adorable. "Goodnight Kurt" he says quietly and the other boy whispers "Goodnight Blaine". If he could Blaine would've stayed on call forever but he too is tired and his phone is almost out of battery. He hangs up and stares at his phone for a moment longer, grinning like an idiot.
Kurt falls asleep with a smile on his lips. The day went different from what he expected, the events of the evening were even more surprising. But it turned out fine. Good. Perfect. Maybe this days wasn't so bad at all.
