Can You Keep A Secret?
Chapter 22
Helena Of D.C.?
"Are you serious?" Carlos looked over to Jeanne, who nodded her head, holding a tablet up, to show the man a video, "No, that's not possible."
"I know, which is why I had to show it to you," Jeanne said as they both looked over the video, "This hadn't been edited either. Tech can verify."
Carlos looked at the looping video and shook his head. This looked to be up his brother's alley. The video was a camera feed from inside of the semi truck that almost killed them. It was during the time that Alejandro pressed the panic button inside the SUV. There was a one big problem though; no one was driving it. The steering wheel was turning, the gears were being shifted but there was no driver.
"I have to deal with fanatics and ghosts?" Jeanne threw her hands up and glared at the feed, "Do you have any idea which ghost was pissed off enough to possess a semi-truck and try to kill two people?!"
"Eh,no?" Carlos said, looking over to Jeanne who sat down in the chair across from his desk at Rangeman D.C. "Was the truck stolen?"
"Yeah, it was, reported stolen from the commercial car dealership, close to the road where the accident happened," Jeanne said, her hands on her face, "The cameras from there picked up nothing, I'll have to call the fucking ghostbusters at this point."
Carlos cracked a smile and then he said, looking to Jeanne, "So, tell me what the FBI had about this incident, after all, it was a Rangeman vehicle that got flatten and tossed to the side of the road."
The whole set up had been weird. The tire spikes were generic, easily bought anywhere, if you knew where to find them. Someone had to have been following Alejandro and Brittany, to set up the trap there, but there had been no evidence of cars or the like in that area. The place they went to, Brittany's ancestral home, apparently, had a security system that was pretty decent and would have caught any tails. It was like a ghost set this whole thing up, which was why he needed to speak to his brother, after this meeting with Jeanne. Carlos had a feeling that Alejandro would be able to figure it out, or maybe even Diesel.
Jeanne left, an hour later, just as frustrated as she came to the office, leaving Carlos to run a hand over his face, looking down at the photo of the scene on the road. He moved his dark brown eyes over it and then looked up, as he heard a knock on the door and Stephanie entered, worrying her lip and looking concerned.
"Jeanne looked pissed, when she left the office, no clue on who tried to kill our favorite people?" Stephanie asked, as she closed the door behind her and locked the door.
"No, it's going to require some other people to look at this situation," Carlos said as Stephanie looked at the photos and then she was walking over to the man and rested her hip on the side of the desk, "I'll deal with it later, for now, what's with this smile, Babe?"
Stephanie gave Carlos a bright smile and said, clapping her hands, "My Spanish has gotten better, BUT-! Hector and I were out testing the newest security tech we came up with. So, you know all about stalkers in cars and tailing right?"
"Right." Carlos nodded his head as Stephanie sat on the desk, this time, her pencil skirt riding up her legs, not that Carlos was looking.
"Well," Stephanie said, leaning forward, "Hector's been working on something, it's like a scanner, it'll alert you, via the car's UI, if you're being tailed by a car, it's very complicated but Hector is amazing, you know that?! Give him a raise! It constantly scans cars, and if it notices a car following behind you, from a distance, you get a ping! If the car following turns with you, you get a ping! There's some kinks that need to be hammered out, but like, it's so amazing! When it's perfected, we want to offer it as part of the security packages for vehicles!"
"You and Hector work well together," Carlos said, with a smile as Stephanie showed him the paperwork, "Hector should get this patented."
"I was a little apprehensive about this job," Stephanie said, looking at the man and then sliding into his lap, "I feel like a different person now, Carlos, there's so much hands on projects here and all the men are nice, even if they're all dressed in black."
"I'm glad you're thriving here," Carlos said, wrapping his arms around Stephanie and pulling her into a kiss, "I'm also glad you and I are together, you're an amazing woman, you know."
"I know," Stephanie said, almost smugly, before Carlos shushed her with a heavy kiss, "Mmm, Carlos, wait!"
Carlos looked at Stephanie, with worry in his eyes, as she played with the collar of her blouse, looking at him, "Everything alright, Babe?"
"Yes, everything is fine, Carlos," Stephanie told the man, but she was still nervous energy, "It's just, Carlos...I want you to know, that when we do have sex, you'll be my 'first'," she put quotation marks around the word, "Joe stole something from me, that I should have been able to give away freely," Stephanie folded her arms, "I'm taking it back and I want to give it to you."
Carlos looked at Stephanie, a smile on his face, "I'm honored," and he was, seeing his Babe take control and steer her own new course was amazing and it was hot as fuck too, "I'll make sure your 'first' is memorable."
"That's all I want, Carlos," Stephanie said as she shoved the papers she had bought into the office under the man's nose, "Now here, look at this paperwork…"
(~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)
"My Gleti is not some soft-hearted creature! You lie! She is a creature with a stone heart and has the attitude of a feline!" Ver's words were shaky on the pages and Diesel had to assume the man was throwing a tantrum, "That is not Gleti you see, that is an imposter!"
"Are you jealous she's actually nice to me and didn't try to kill me, before falling in love with you?" Diesel asked the book, earning no replies from the book, "S'what I thought…"
While Vercingetroix and Gleti's relationship had been built upon emotions of anger, rage and lust, Diesel's relationship with Heidi was quite the opposite. If he hadn't seen Gleti in action, with Vercingtroix, he would have never believed that Heidi had been capable of being such a saucy woman!
'It must be all that time alone and in the minds of those weak-willed humans,' Ver sneered and Diesel rolled his eyes, 'That is what I believe, boy!'
Diesel and Heidi spent rare moments together, for a bit, until finally, Brittany managed to, with the necklace Diesel had given her, to form a bridge for Diesel to use to go into the same world as Heidi. The woman was getting better with using her gifts, it was almost scary. When Diesel wore the necklace, and fell asleep, he would go right to Heidi and Diesel was coming to relish his time with her.
"Diesel, you have returned!" Heidi would always greet him with that and hug him, kissing his cheeks, "Come let us enjoy some tea together."
They were like star crossed lovers, in a slice of their own paradise. They did everything and anything together. Often times, it was the lazy things they did that Diesel enjoyed the most. Laying, with his head in Heidi's lap, as she read stories to him, her fingers running through his hair. Drawing patterns in the starry sky with their fingers and talking about the shapes they made and even feeding one another sweets on a picnic blanket were all times that Diesel would relish.
On a rare occasion, the spear came with him to this world of dreams. Diesel found the ancient weapon to be like a third limb for him. He found it easy to use, was almost weightless in his hand and full of power, magic maybe? If he threw it, it went far and would return to his hand, he could make powerful winds, when he swung it and it was so sharp, it pierced steel enforced concrete walls with ease. The spear always stayed sharp and shined, even in the darkest of nights.
"May I see it?" Heidi asked Diesel, as he practiced close to where she sat, "You seem like such a natural with it, have you used it all your life?"
"No, sort of got it a few weeks back," Diesel said, as he stopped his actions and walked over to the blanket and sitting down it, "Here," he handed the spear to Heidi, who held it in her hands.
"Oh, there's so much power in this weapon," Heidi said, her eyes closing, leaning against Diesel, "Strange, it feels like I've known this weapon all my life, and yet, I've never seen it before."
"Ver did say you had it made from him, ages ago," Diesel said, looking down at the woman and spear, "The man told me you had the spear shaped from a star, but then again, Ver is quite dramatic."
"This Ver and I, we were lovers," Heidi said, handing the spear back to the man, who laid it beside him, "I feel like, I've lost so much, Diesel, I've no memories of my past life, of the people in it, would I be a different person, if I could remember them?"
"Maybe," Diesel said to Heidi as he kissed her fingers, "I think you would have been tougher to me, if you still had that sassy attitude Vercingetroix claimed you had, most likely would have beaten me up."
"I would never hurt you!" Heidi looked aghast, "Diesel, I-I enjoy you too much to make you hurt," she looked away, shyly, her fingers worrying the material of her dress, "Maybe it was a good thing I lost my memories, then!"
Diesel laughed out loud and then turned Heidi's face to his and kissed her on the lips, "I think I might like wrangling you to the ground, Heidi," his voice low.
"Stop it you," Heidi whispered, before pulling Diesel in for another hot kiss, "Mmm, you don't need to wrangle me, to have me underneath you…." Before pulling the man on top of her, falling back on the blanket.
Of course, they had sex, the first time had been just as spontaneous as Vercingetorix's encounter with the woman. They had been looking at the stars together, when Diesel turned to Heidi and kissed her silly. Heidi had returned the kiss with her own and before they knew it, they were both naked, with Diesel looming over her asking, "Is this okay? Can we do this?"
Heidi's answer had been a resounding, "Yes, yes we can!"
Wet dreams had never felt so good before to Diesel! Heidi was responsive and melted like butter under his fingers. They explored one another's bodies and found what made each other moan, yelp and groan with excitement.
"You two can stop acting like horny teenagers, okay," Stephanie told Diesel, her cheeks hot, "If I have to hear about how, you made Heidi's left leg twitch uncontrollably one more time, I'll scream!"
Diesel had the nerve to look sheepish. Ver had only sniffed, as much as a book can and said, 'The other woman is jealous, no one can have such a wonderful creature under them and not find themselves addicted! Better it be sex you are addicted to and not wine, believe you-me, spent time in Greece, drunk as a skunk for over 10 years, if I had been wiser, I would have known that the wine was all lead, Gleti did something with her magics to detox me, dreadfully painful, you know wha-'
Diesel had closed the book and let it vibrate and shake in his pocket, as Ver spoke about his wild time in present day Syria.
Diesel was lounging lazily on a chaise, at the Gario Estate, basking in the afterglow of a marvelous romp with Heidi, in his sleep, when his phone chirped. Diesel looked down at his cracked phone screen and paused, seeing the text message.
'We've got a problem, come quickly' ~Puzzle Man.
"Damn it," Diesel sighed as he rolled off the chaise and disappeared with a pop landing in the living room of the house in D.C. His sudden appearance made Stephanie yelp, Agent Jeanne to mutter, "Unmentionables, I should have known,' and Carlos to say, "They give me migraines."
"Yeah, yeah," Diesel said, as he went over to Alejandro, who leaned over a table, looking at a picture, intently, "Puzzle Man, what's going on?"
"Casper is what's going on," Alejandro said, sitting up, "You know, the man who can turn into a 'ghost?' Well, he's the one who was driving the truck," Diesel sucked in a breath of air and suddenly looked serious, "Agency tracked him down but he got away, with some help, Geuwulf, your cousin," Diesel sucked in another breath of air, 'Why is he working with your brother?'
"Most likely because that same evil that's out for her," Diesel said, jerking his head to Brittany, "Happens to be my cousin, most likely put out a hit on her for Casper to 'spirit' her away."
'Spirit away, does that mean death, because that truck almost turned us into the inside of a sausage!' Brittany put her hands on her hips and Diesel shook his head, 'Minced meat!'
"He would have gotten to you before that truck did and made you go 'poof!' right to Wulf," Diesel said, tapping his chin, "Casper can't be the only one on his payroll."
"No, he's not, got a few other people as well," Jeanne said to the man, folding her arms, looking serious, "You Agency has been kind enough to send out a list of people under Geuwulf's thumb, mind telling us what's going on?"
Diesel and Alejandro looked at the list and then Alejandro muttered something in Spanish and wrapped an arm around Brittany's waist, protectively.
"All of them turncoats, all of them pretty dangerous," Diesel muttered, looking at the list, "Agent Jeanne, this goes far beyond the scope of the FBI, Wulf's building an army, he's pretty much declaring war to get to her," Diesel pointed his thumb to Brittany, "This is not good."
"Terrible, actually," Alejandro said, looking around the table, "We're not safe here anymore, well, some of us aren't," he turned to Brittany and then to Diesel, "If they can get to her, they'll figure out about…Heidi."
"You are not wrong," Diesel said to himself, before he turned to Carlos and Jeanne, "I'm sorry but I have to step in, over the FBI, on this matter, Agent Jeanne, acting as an Agent of the Agency now, but I'm taking Brittany in for protective custody."
"I sensed this coming, I'll make sure Stephanie is safe, at least," Jeanne said, looking over to Stephanie and Carlos, "I think it's safer for her to move into a place of yours, Carlos."
"The penthouse at Rangeman D.C. will be one of the safest places," Carlos said, wrapping an arm around Stephanie's shoulders, "There's even an indoor pool."
"If you think she's going anywhere without me, Diesel, you've a problem on your hands," Alejandro said, looking to Diesel, "Where she goes, I go."
"Well then, I hope you two like mountain air," Diesel said, with a broad smile on his face, "Dad and Grandpa are going to flip bricks, but we're going to Switzerland!"
