A year and a half later
Everyone is told that some moments in life are unforgettable, but I've found that after a while the moments blend together. Only some things are truly unforgettable and even those can become indistinguishable. Not everything has to be remembered somethings should be forgotten. The day my mother died and the people I've killed they are unforgettable to me, I see them in my head, however unforgettable doesn't mean I'm sorry about it. I still stand by every action I committed. My other unforgettable moment was the day I got engaged. That moment was truly unforgettable, but even hat moment fades. However there is a letter that is hard to forget, it caught my attention and that's the story I'll tell now.
"Hey, Altman!" Cristina yelled up the corridor. I spun on my heels to look at one of the surgeons I'd just spent 15 hours with, the other being Liam Hayes.
"Dr Yang, thank you again for letting me scrub in." I said still buzzing from the extraordinary surgery I'd just assisted in. Cristina followed me into my office where we both sat, me on the couch she on the chair.
"Listen your mother isn't here to tell you this so I will for her, she always told me to 'find someone who will change the weather for you'. So, since she can't ask you I will. Would Liam change the weather for you?" And with that Yang got up and disappeared leaving me thinking.
After mulling for a long time I picked up my cell phone and dialled the number that Cristina had scrawled with the name A, Robins above. With a deep intake of breath I pressed in the numbers and listened to the ringing.
"Hello Dr Robins speaking." A woman asked in a very cheerful voice.
"Hello Dr Robins, this is Dr Altman…" I heard Dr Robins almost drop the phone.
"As in Teddy!" She yelled.
"Teddy was my mother. My name is Allison." I said with a smile.
"Of course she talked about you a lot." Dr Robins sat walking away from the background noise.
"Dr Robins, I wonder, could I meet you in person? I just have so many questions and I want to ask you in person." I said in a hurry before I could back out.
"Of course, dear and please call me Arizona." Arizona said cheerfully. "Well I'll give you a ring back and I'll let you know a good time. Do you want to come to me or me to you?"
"I don't mind whichever's easiest." I replied.
"I'll come to you and see Cristina, I assume she's the one who gave you my number…" Arizona cheerfully said.
"Yes it was her." I agreed.
"My only question is, after all this time why now?" Arizona asked.
"Better late than never." I responded. "You know the name of Cristina's hospital and I have a guest room, or you could book into a hotel I don't mind. Just give me a date and I'll see you then."
"I'll see you then." Arizona said. "Speak soon!"
"Hey Allison." Liam said walking up to me and kissing me gently on the lips.
"Hey yourself." I said kissing him back. "Listen I have a friend coming in a week's time would you mind just taking a backseat while she's here." I asked sitting behind my desk.
"Of course darling. Who is it?" Liam asked.
"An old friend of my mother's and Cristina's, Dr Arizona Robins." I replied.
"Have you heard of a man named Owen Hunt?" Liam asked sitting down opposite me. I gathered my expression before replying.
"Depends what you heard?" I smiled.
"A note was in your pigeon hole this morning from this Owen Hunt I was just wondering." Liam said putting a hand written note on the desk. On the front it read 'To Cristina Yang to pass onto Allison Altman' I put on a smile before saying my thanks. I opened the note and began to read the few words that were written. 'Allison, I know what you've been doing. I'd stop before you get too deep. You don't want to end up like your mother. Your loving Father.' I quickly refolded the note hiding it away in my top drawer.
"Thank you again Liam." I said leaning over the desk to kiss him again. "If you'll excuse me I have a phone call to make." I said picking up the phone and watching Liam leave. As soon as he left I put the phone down and leaned back in my chair. I found the note out and walked over to my couch lying down on it. There I read the note again and again till eventually I drifted off to sleep.
I woke at a knocking at the door, suddenly Cristina came barrelling into the room. I saw her eyes dart to the note that had fallen out of my hands and now lay on the floor.
"What's that?" Cristina asked picking the note up. I watched her expression fall into disgust. "That evil…"
"Wait!" I yelled stopping her in her tracks.
"Wait for what?" Cristina asked.
"For my reply." I smiled walking over to my desk and combing my blond curls out with my finger. I picked up a pen and paper spoke what I wrote.
"Owen, however you found me doesn't matter. I will never stop, I am already in too deep. I am my mother's daughter, I always have been and always will be. Never yours, Allison Altman." As I finished Cristina burst out laughing and clapping. We walked to the post office and the letter went on its way to Seattle.
Seattle - Owen's house
"A letter for you Owen!" His new wife Elaine called from the front door having just picked up the post.
"Thanks Lainey." Owen said accepting the letter reading it once over before throwing it in the fire with a snarl.
