Frankie looked over their family's massive collection of books. It didn't really seem to have any rhyme or reason to it. Everything was seemingly shoved on to shelves. It was a little odd for scientists to not keep their collection organized. Frankie figured they would do it themselves another day.

They found a few fictional books, deciding on some light reading. They curled themselves up on the couch after breakfast while Viktor and Mary were down in the lab. They breezed through the books fairly quickly. A few of them were human books. They liked how a lot of the characters had groups of friends. It seemed…fulfilling. Frankie liked their family but it was often obvious that they were built…younger.

Later that night, Frankie knocked on their parents door. They invited them in and, for a moment, they stood awkwardly as Mary and Viktor lay together.

"What is it, Frankie?" Viktor asked.

"I want to make some friends of my own…well, my emotional and mental age?" Frankie said, unsure about the right phrasing, "What I mean is…well to start...I know I'm a teenager, it's how you built me. I know I'm only five days old but I want monsters my own age to talk to."

"You want to make friends." Mary clarified.

"Yes." Frankie stated, "I just don't know how. There is that harpy boy but I think I just freaked him out and the other kids were half my physical age. I don't think they would be able to hold a conversation."

"All monsters need companionship in some form or another." Mary said, "We'll talk it over and tomorrow we can discuss it more. Right now it's time for bed."

"But-" Frankie tried.

"I promise." Mary said, "But there is a time for everything and that time is tomorrow."

Frankie sighed, "Fine. Good night."

Frankie went to their own room and got into bed. They lay awake for a while just contemplating their, so far short yet complex existence. There was still so much they didn't know.

"Frankie," Viktor said as he helped Mary with the dishes from lunch, "Do you mind if we run a few tests this afternoon? A friend of mine is also a doctor and would love to take a look at you."

Frankie gave him an unsure look, "I'm not sure…"

"We aren't going to take you apart or open you up if that's what you're afraid of." He explained, "Just a series of mental tests and a physical."

"Oh. Then sure." Frankie said.

Viktor smiled, "Then go shower and change into something more comfortable then meet me in the lab."

Frankie ginned and went off to do as they were told.

They entered the lab and stood at the bottom of the steps and stared o as Viktor and Mary talked with a man in a dusty suit with dark blue hair and green skin.

Viktor was the first to see them. "Fankie, come say hello." he waved them over.

Frankie cautiously approached the three adults and stood next to Mary.

Victor gave them an encouraging smile, "This is good practice. Go ahead and introduce yourself."

Frankie inhaled and put on a smile, hands behind their back, "Hello, I'm Frankie Stein." A pause, "Pronouns they/them."

"Remarkable." The man said, "I'm Dr. Belham."

"It's nice to meet you." Frankie said.

He then walked around them and analyzed them. "You are a piece of art. You are so far along for only what? A few days old?"

"Six and a half, actually." Frankie corrected, "though there has been a lot going on."

"Any fits of rage, violence?" Dr. Belham asked.

Frankie looked to their mother.

"When they first woke up, they were in fight or flight." Mary said, "Viktor sedated Frankie for a few hours and they've been fine since."

"Though I do still get overwhelmed sometimes." Frankie added.

The doctor nodded, "Okay, where do you want to start Viktor?"

"Frankie?" Viktor asked them.

They thought for a moment, "The physical?"

Viktor guided Frankie over to a scale and had them take off their slippers. Frankie stood patiently as Mary jotted down their weight.

"149.91 centimeters." Viktor mused.

Frankie laughed, "Wow, I'm kind of short."

The other three laughed with them.

They moved on to test Frankie's reflexes, movements, grip strength and conductivity. Several limbs flew off during reflexes and the more they disconnected, the more the joints started to hurt.

Then, they moved on to the mental tests. This is where Dr. Belham mainly took over. He held up in blots, pictures, they read some short passages and other literary tests. Then he asked a lot of questions about how thye feel and what they liked. Then, Frankie was told to go upstairs.

They were fine with that. They were in the lab for several hours. They felt kind of off about the tests. A few of them seemed a little too personal for their liking.

Frankie opened a sketch pad and sat at their desk, drawing a self-portrait, unsure of what else they had time for. It was almost midnight when Frankie was called out to the kitchen where their parents and Dr. Belham sat around the tables with a few open boxes.

"What's this?" Frankie asked, sitting down and grabbing a plate.

"It's pizza." Mary said.

"Yes, you will greatly enjoy it. Most teenagers do." Dr. Belham said, snacking on his smaller pizza topped with brain matter.

Frankie took a bite of one of them and smiled, "This is amazing!"

"Right?" Viktor said, "I love the innovation."

Frankie nodded enthusiastically, bouncing in their seat for a moment.

After dinner, they saw off Dr. Belham. Victor having Frankie deactivating and activating the alarm system.

After that, they all yawned, one after another and unanimously agreed it was time for bed.

Frankie came out of their room and headed to the kitchen, only to be stopped at the entryway by Viktor.

"Wait!" Viktor said, "You can't go in there just yet."

Frankie furrowed their brows, "Why? Is something wrong?"

"No, no." Viktor said, a huge smile on his face, "It's a surprise."

"Okay, Viktor!" Mary called.

"Close your eyes. I'll guide you." He insisted.

Frankie didn't hesitate to close their eyes and let Viktor guide them.

"Open your eyes!" Mary said, excitement clear in their voice.

Frankie opened their eyes to see a giant plate of pancakes with sparklers at the top with a bunch of different toppings. A the far end of the table was a badly wrapped gift with a bow on top.

"Happy-weekiversary!" two monsters said in unison.

Frankie grinned widely and bounced, "You did all of this for me?"

"Your mother did most of it." Viktor said, holding up his massive hands, "I don't have the delicacy needed to bake. I wrapped the present though! Open it."

Frankie displayed no hesitation and opened the paper. It was a stack of books, most with odd designs; History of Monsters, Clawculus, Creepenomics, etc.

"I love them!" Frankie said, flipping open the top one for a moment before sitting down at their place and grabbing a pancake.

As they were scanning over the topping options, Mary spoke.

"There's more." She said, "We got your birth certificate from doctor Belham so now, you are officially a documented monster!"

Frankie smiled as they loaded up their plate ,"That's amazing! Thank you so much. What does that mean?"

"It means you can, if you want, start to integrate into monster society." Viktor explained, "Which brings us to our next point." He frowned, and so did Mary.

Frankie frowned in return, "Oh no. What's going to happen to me?"

"Nothing bad!" Viktor said, allowing Frankie to relax, "It's more sad for us but we kind of walked into it when we decided to build a teenager."

"We thought you would not be this developed by now but seeing as you are and already craving friendship…" Mary looked at Viktor, taking his hand in her own, "We are considering letting you go to school when it starts this year. We booked a tour at Monster High with Headmistress Bloodgood tomorrow afternoon."

Frankie took a moment to take in both their parents, "I don't know what a good reaction is, I'm confused. I'm excited about meeting other monsters and making friends but you two seem so sad so it hurts a little."

"You have a good heart Frankie." Viktor said, "Metaphorically."

"You are allowed to be excited!" Mary smiled, "It's an exciting step. Not like this isn't your home, you're still our little monster. Monster High can be your home too."

"Boarding school is a great way to make friends because you will have roommates." Viktor added, "You can also come home on some weekends, holidays and during summer break."

Frankie grinned, virtually vibrating from excitement. They couldn't wait.

Frankie got out of the car with their parents and approached the school where a tall, dark skinned woman stood straight with a riding crop in her hand.

"Viktor! Mary! It's so nice to see you again." the woman spoke, before turning her attention to Frankie, "HI, I'm Headmistress Bloodgood and Welcome to Monster High where every creature can be their true monster selves."

Frankie looked at Viktor who said nothing, wanting Frankie to handle their own introductions.

Frankie smiled, "Hi, I'm Frankie. Pronouns they/them, I'm 8 days old today. And can I say you have a powerful presence which is really intimidating and completely terrifying."

Bloodgood smiled, "Oh you're honest. That is a quality we value at monster high."

Bloodgood turned and gestured with her crop for the Stein family to follow her. They walked campus, the halls void of students but faculty were cleaning the halls and setting up their classrooms.

Headmistress Bloodgood spoke about the history of the school between pointing to specific rooms and naming off the wings of the school. Frankie asked a few questions but for the most part, they were satisfied with the information Bloodgood had to offer.

"So these are the dorms." she explained as they walked down a hallway of stacked furniture along with empty rooms, "Now, there are at least three monsters in a room. Forgive me if this is out of line, but we go by sex for dorm assignments. Would you be in the male or female dorms?"

Frankie smiled, "That's fine, I understand. Female dorms please."

Bloodgood turned to start walking again, "Wonderful!"

The woman kept talking and Viktor kept asking questions. The monster seemed to be getting more and more nervous.

Finally, they arrived at a door, Bloodgood ushered them all in.

"This is my office. Have a seat." she said then gestured to three chairs in front of the large, mahogany desk, "So, I read the application you sent in on Frankie's behalf and it seems to be in order. Dr. Belham's analysis is exemplary and does fit the criteria for a freshman. I wanted to meet Frankie in person because, honestly, I couldn't believe it. You have animated splendidly, language skills and comprehension are exemplary."

"Thank you, headmistress." Frankie said with a grin.

She nodded with a smile and stamped something on the desk before handing it to Frankie. It was an acceptance letter.

"I would like to be the first to officially welcome you to Monster High, Frankie." Bloodgood held out her hand to the smaller monster.

Frankie shot up and shook Bloodgood's hand, hard enough that their forearm popped off.

"Oops." Frankie said, awkwardly taking their arm and reattaching it, "Sorry."

"It's been a pleasure meeting you Frankie. I will see you in a week's time."

Frankie looked at the woman "Wait. A week?"

And so it begins. Ends? Nah there is more you just have to go check out the next one! Sum of Their Parts! It's out now!

I hope you enjoyed it. I kinda wrote this one in 2 days. Originally I was going in to edit what I had in the original story then ended up writing an intro, which turned into a chapter...then 4.

Anyway, if you liked this, go read the next one. If you don't want any spoilers, go watch it on prime or paramount+. However, not entirely necessary, there are a bunch of scenes from there.
