Hello everyone I am back with a new chapter for The Marvelous Devil! LET'S GO! Althrough FF is fucking up with my email, telling me that I need to fix or else they will cancel all my upates (Cause that make sense, fix a problem on our site or suffer) and I DID! But it's like 'naw, still not gonna update' fuck off FF. Anyways, onto the chapter itself, or at the very least reviews first then story.
Phoinex Slayer5: In future volumes he will be part of an official team but we need to develop his 'solo' act. Enjoy!
Necros the Saiyan Knight: Oh don't worry I will once the next arc is over, so I got some room for content in TMD, but I am glad this shows you guys liked it. Enjoy!
Jebest4781: Thanks yeah it only gets harder from here tho, it's gonna be fun lol. Enjoy!
Yakuza2010: Yeah everyone screws up, but in Ragna's case it only gets harder from here. Hmm...well the heroes will discover demons sooner or later, but I like the idea. Enjoy!
Jobro89:...(Looks at roadmap)...Something like that lol. Enjoy!
Bromega2477: Let's see indeed, it's gonna be a crazy ride. Enjoy!
SaiyaSage: Yeah it could've been worse for a first hero outing, but like I've said...it doesn't get easier. Listen DMC2 is pretty much at the bottom with the DMC reboot. DMC 2 had great story but terrible (Easy even at its hardest) gameplay. DMC Reboot: Terrible story but pretty fun gameplay. Thanks I'm trying to fully establish how the hero world works, volume 2 will fully reveal the organization behind them. Since I mentioned the Fantastic Four last chapter of which I will get into at the bottom. Yeah I really wanna show the duality of heroism that you said, and hopefully have it be concluded during the Elite storyline. Oh don't worry you're gonna get your soulfu
Chapter Seven: A Devil's Nature
(The Marvelous Devil)
"Impressive, your speed is improving." Trish complimented, sidestepping another one of Ragna's swing. The parking lot had become a regular for the two, after Ragna was done with class and the girls headed home he would head out for a bit and train with Trish, today being the last for the week until he can try and go out on patrol all day tomorrow. He lied to Cass about it being hanging out with new friends he had made (That he was lucky she had yet to bring up to the girls). In the late evening he would train with Trish before finally ending the night with patrol. It had been like this for the past two days since his first patrol and meeting the two heroines. Granted it did not go well, for both the spider heroines and even that new hero: Mt. Lady.
In the past two days Redgrave was talking about the arrival of the new super hero, Ragna, or Crimson Swordsman as he was called so far. Not a name he was proud of nor was it his official name, of which he will figure out soon. So far social media didn't explode with excitement on his arrival, oh sure people we're talking about him and wondering who the hell he was, but nothing was made positive about him so far other than that he clearly got his moves from movies. The news didn't help either, the branch that covered heroes went on to slander him a bit for 'disrespecting' Mt. Lady despite all he said was that he had never heard of her. While it did really annoy him a lot, what truly surprised him was the talk about the demon he killed…..or 'lab mutant monkey' as the news called it. The dead creature was carried off by large vehicles, no doubt the Government, and the News pretty much convinced the masses it was nothing more but an escaped lab monkey from a nearby STAR Labs.
"I just find it so crazy that all this time demons have been real, but no one believes it." Ragna commented, ducking under a kick from Trish.
"How so?"
"Well like, my dad basically saved the universe, and I didn't even know until a few days ago. Yet everytime I look up Sparda I get nothing. No wikipedia page, no images, nothing about a 'Legendary Dark Knight' or hell even a mention of it in any version of the Bible. Ya think someone of legend would have a book or two written about them." Ragna remarked, noting how he found no history behind his father beside the 'founder' of Redgrave City and even then that was pretty obscured and clearly twisted since it stated his dad was a Paladin.
"Well of course not, you humans only believe in something when its right in front of you. Regarding your father, well I doubt servants of the Lord would want to praise a Demon, the very antithesis of God's Will." Trish explained, jumping back from his blade.
"What do you mean by that? Are you saying every hoax we humans have ever heard of is real? But because we don't see it nowadays we believe it to be fake, like atheists with God?" Ragna asked.
"Yes, humans fear the unknown and while that fear is warranted it doesn't do you any favors in the long run.
"Oh man, does that mean Bigfoots real?"
"Real and still stomping somewhere out there." Trish stated, now dropping her stance as Ragna stabbed his sword into the ground below him.
"But like….how? How is it that these things are real…but they aren't flying around or doing crazy things like the creatures in Japanese lore?" Ragna asked.
"They are, it's just not….in abundance anymore. Besides, most creatures of folklore you humans made aren't from this realm." Trish answered cryptically. She didn't mind answering his questions but if it didn't involve Hell she could care less…..also because she didn't have limited knowledge of the Realms above.
"Realm?" Ragna asked, leaning forward.
"The world is far bigger than you can even imagine Ragna, and it only takes people like you Ragna to open your eyes and see the truth." Trish answered.
"...Okay, but can I fight Bigfoot someday?" Ragna asked. Honestly now knowing Bigfoot was real, he would love nothing more than to tussle with the legendary folklore.
"...Maybe one day." Trish lamented, seeing no point in denying him a fight with the creature….if they had the time. The hybrid letting out a small cheer before twisting his blade and lunging at Trish once again continuing their training. Trish had to admit he was improving his current strength in speed, already proving he could handle most lower level demons with relative ease and his speed could very well rival the fastest vehicle at his current level. Unfortunately, this was all she could get him at until she could find some real challenges, then he'll begin to improve more.
"So how come you look like a-UGH! That smell!" Ragna groaned, gagging in disgust as he jumped back, dropping his sword and covering his nose. Trish looked at the hybrid in confusion, before she began sniffing the air as well, walking over to the edge she peered down to see a nearby dumpster filled to the frim with trash and whatever garbage the humans had thrown in. Trish looked back to the disgusted hybrid, realizing what was happening and shaking her head.
"I suppose something was going to happen soon." Trish muttered as she walked up to the hybrid, clutching his shoulder.
"Oh God it smells like the blue cheese Cass had in her fridge for nearly four months, but five times worse! I can smell the gum under people's shoes! It's worse the-!"
"Ragna, relax." Trish soothed, pinching his nose, forcing him to breath through his mouth. It seemed to have worked as the hybrid could no longer smell the rotten garbage. Taking another deep breath, the hybrid pulled Trish's fingers off his nose and pinched it with his own fingers.
"What just happened?" Ragna asked.
"Remember when I told you that regenerative healing is one of your more active abilities?" Trish asked, the hybrid nodding his head as she continued.
"Well, I never told you the others, and these are a natural part of your body unlike the Seven Sins. The internal force in you, and one of the first that seem to have activated was Hyper Olfaction."
"Hyper Olfaction?"
"You, and any other demons such as I, have a very powerful sense of smell. You could smell the harbor all the way across the city if you use it hard enough." Trish explained.
"What is the point of having this when all I can smell is garbage?!"
"It's mainly because despite how sophisticated and intelligent demons are: We are still primal animals, much like how humans use it to smell food or aromas, demons use it for the same practice. Or in their case, they can smell the blood of virgins and even Pure Souls to corrupt." Trish explained, tapping her nose.
"Smelling virginity's...I don't know if that is something I want." Ragna shook his head, not sure why he would ever wanna know if a girl is a virgin just by smell.
"You can also smell souls that have passed on or ghouls, or even magic residue left behind by sorcerers or witches. There are many perks to these powers, Ragna, it just takes some time getting used to." Trish said, placing a hand on Ragna's shoulder.
"And how long is that? Cause I don't wanna be smelling garbage."
"That's only because you allow yourself to be, much like wolves or other predators you can sniff out other sources…..you just need to focus. Let's try and focus on that for the rest of the training." Trish gently pushed Ragna down and the two sat across from each other, Trish staring at Ragna as the hybrid took a few deep breaths.
"Now, let go of your nose and focus." Ragna grimaced at the thought, but he was no damn baby, so sucking it up he let go of his nose and was instantly hit with…everything. He could smell so much right now: Food, garbage, paint, sweat…..it was like a smorgasbord of aroma and he had no idea if he wanted to puke or die.
"Focus on one thing, and find it." Trish explained, watching as the hybrid slowly took a deep breath. The stench was rancid. He could smell the rotten meat, he could smell the…..boiling pot of soup…five blocks from here in an open window.
"I….I can smell….Apple Pie, ten blocks from here." Ragna sniffed the air, the once nauseating stench now became an welcoming aroma, he could smell roses from Redgrave Park and that was halfway across the city.
"I can smell pizza at Fredi's…..I can smell sweat from joggings…hopefully girls…..I can smell the sea water from the harbor….I….I smell sulfur?" Ragna hummed in confusion, when the sudden gunfire echoed in his ear. He immediately shot up and ran to the edge of the building, looking down to see a car being chased by two police vehicles.
"Well, gonna have to take a raincheck on training today, Trish, Hero's work is never done!"
"Hold on, just let the police han-!" But Trish was cut off as Ragna ran back to grab his sword, and immediately jumped off the building, leaving the blonde by herself. Civilians turned their heads watching as a car drove by followed by two police cars…and finally a man in a red coat with a sword on his back running with inhuman speed down the road.
"This is Officer Davis, I requ-!"
"Evening, Officer!"
"THE HELL?!" Davis choked on his own spit, turning to see the same hero from the other night, running along side him with insane speed.
"How in the h-!"
"What can I say? Never skipped leg day!" Ragna jested, quickly running ahead and jumping towards the car. The thieves inside looked at each other in confusion before Ragna slammed through the back window, sliding between the two criminals in the backseat.
"Hey guys, mind dropping me off two blocks from here?" Ragna asked, immediately punching one in the nose, knocking him out. He grabbed the next one who pulled out a handgun, ripping it out of his hold and slamming the butt of it onto his face. He lifted his boot and kicked the passenger seat as the one upfront tried to shoot him with a shotgun. Ragna tossed the gun in his hand out the window and pulled out his sword. It took a minute since he was in such a tight vehicle with two thugs resting on him while the other tried to prep the shot gun again. It also didn't help that his nose was picking up multiple aromas as they drove by. With an annoyed grunt he took his blade, stabbing it through the wheel and right through the pedal.
"...Uh oh." Both Ragna and the driver muttered as the vehicle began speeding up. Due to the wheel stuck thanks to Ragna's sword, the driver could barely control it as it swerved around the road, bouncing into other cars and lamp posts. Ragna's eyes widened in fear when he looked up ahead, a group of pedestrians who began running once they saw the car, save for a sweet little old lady calmly walking across the street. Thinking quickly, Ragna lifted both boots and slammed them into the floorboard, breaking through and onto the road, cracking and destroying the ground as he slowly stopped the car. He let out a few strained grunts trying his best to slow the car down to a complete stop, just a few inches from the old lady. The car roared as smoke shot out of the hood, the road cracked with a trail where Ragna planted his boots.
"...Yeah I think this is my stop, boys." Ragna answered, grabbing the thugs in the front seats and slamming their heads together, knocking them out. He hopped out of the car, dusting himself off and reaching into the front seat pulling out his blade.
"Oh, Sweetie, you don't look so good." The old lady cooed, reaching up and poking Ragna's chest with her cane.
"Yeah and you would've been down Baker's street if I didn't stop this car." Ragna grumbled, flicking the cane off of him as the old lady giggled.
"Well Sweetie, you and your friends should be more careful when you drive." She said, gesturing to the car, reaching up to Ragna's arm.
"One, those aren't my friends. Two, I wasn't driving. Three, I just saved you cause that's what a hero does." Ragna declared triumphantly.
"Oh, a hero? Well I've never heard of you."
"...I'm new, just started actually." Ragna muttered, glaring down at the old lady.
"Well, as a new hero, helping this sweet old lady to cross the street was a nice first step."
"Wha-!" Ragna looked over to see he indeed helped the old coot cross the rest of the way.
"Have a nice evening, Mr. Hero!" She called as she began walking down the sidewalk.
"Hey! Me helping you was not my first step! I just saved your llll….aaaaand she's gone." Ragna sighed in defeat, when he smelled burnt leather, looking down to see his now completely destroyed boots. They had taken some damage during the chase with the demon the other day, but not he nothing but the top half remained showing his bare feet to the world.
"Aw…man."
"Might wanna be careful where you walk." Ragna looked up to see Officer Davis, a small glare in his eyes as the other officers cuffed the thugs.
"Hey~~~ Officer Whatshisface." Ragna chuckled offering two thumbs up to the police officer who rolled his eyes.
"Is this destruction gonna be a regular occurrence?" Davis asked, gesturing to the destroyed road behind them.
"...Not unless it's the only way we ever meet." Ragna joked as he took off his boots, tossing them into the trash.
"And besides no one got hurt."
"MY LEG! MY LEG!"
"...Well at least its not critical."
"You're not off to a very good start on this hero stuff." Davis groaned, rubbing his eyes.
"Hey! At least I do it while being awesome, if you're gonna be critical: Be fair." Ragna shot back as he walked through the crowd and into an alleyway.
"Hey hold we ain't done. You can't constantly be doi-Woah." Davis was genuinely surprised to find the hybrid gone from the alley, despite it being a dead end. He wasn't even climbing up the walls he was just missing. Davis let out a small annoyed sigh and began making his way back to the car, unaware of Ragna watching him walk away above the building. Ragna did have to admit he might've done a bit more damage then he intended, but so far no one was severely hurt, so that was a win-win in his book. Hearing footsteps behind him, the hybrid turned to see Trish walking up to him, a small glare in her eyes.
"Hey! Did ya like the show? That was just a taste of what is to co-GAK!" Ragna cried out as Trish bonked him on the head with her fist.
"I don't remember saying training was over!" Trish stated, bonking him on the head again.
"Hey, I had to go stop those thugs and save an old lady!" Ragna argued.
"Those are insignificant when your training is first and foremost. Ragna you need to master your current strength and power if you are ever to go on and face even tougher demons far greater than Ancala." Trish explained, rubbing her eyes in irritation. If he was gonna be running off at every little sign of trouble, his training would never get done.
"Hey if I wanna be a hero I need to jump straight into the action and stop the villain. I agreed to let you train me cause I wanted to be a he-BRZZ-Ah, hold on." Ragna reached into his pocket pulling out his phone, noticing a few more cracks on his screen but what really got his attention was the text.
"Oh crap, Cass needs me back at the cafe." Ragna muttered, looking back up to see Trish glaring at him.
"Hehe, it's fine she probably needs me to lift something that's too heavy. I'll be back before ya know it." Ragna reassured, patting her shoulder and walking past the Lightning witch.
"Ragna." Said hybrid stopped, turning around to face Trish as she let out a sigh.
"You need to get control of this new lifestyle you created. I don't know why you want to be a hero, but ya need to find a way to balance this hero stuff and your training." Trish stated, crossing her arms. She could already tell that with how crime ridden these cities are he would jump at every chance. Granted, Redgrave City wasn't as bad as Gotham, a literal Crime City if she has ever seen one. Still, his training was far more important than beating up thugs and the demented. Ragna did understand where she was coming from, since he did have another hour or so before their training ended. Still he didn't see the big deal if it meant he could save the day, and what if next time it was a demon attack?
"Pssh, don't worry about it Trish, I got this whole thing under control." Ragna waved off her concern, walking back to the cafe with his hands behind his head. Trish let out a sigh as she overlooked the city below. She heard some commotion below and looked to see a large crowd of civilians cheering as a small group of random heroes arrived to help take down another group of thugs who just arrived. Looking up she saw one of the large plasma screens replay the events from last night with Ragna chasing the Oranggeurra, and the news had a few less than flattery words to say about Ragna.
A new Menace to Society?
Redgrave's New Hero or Fraud?
Hero or Vigilante?
"...Humans."
(The Marvelous Devil)
"I'm just saying they're are plenty of guys in that school to hang out with, maybe even date on-!"
"Oh my god, Dad, let it go. Ragna didn't do it!" Gwen exasperated, glaring from the corner of her eyes at her father who just returned from his shift. The punk drummer was originally tapping to her own tune, writing down more clef symbols on her notebook. Today had just been another mundane day of school, Ragna sleeping at the table, and heading off to patrol with Penny. Granted today was a slow day, so the two decided to head home early and get some homework done. Gwen had been enjoying her downtime, right before her father walked in, and asked once again if she was still friends with…him.
Ragna. Her secret boyfriend. Her father, George, didn't always have this stigma against her boyfriend, he actually liked Ragna when he was a kid. However, it seemed once Ragna got into Redgrave Academy it seemed some strange wedge had formed between the two, and it didn't help that once that incident with the girls locker room happened Ragna was suspect number one cause of his more perverted attitude. Since they couldn't actually find proof Ragna was let go, but that definitely pushed the two farther and farther apart. Ragna would barely come visit and he would mainly be in her room, not that she blamed him, there was a reason she stayed at his place some nights.
"No on a guy? That's fine, sweetie, a girl is always fine. I just think you need to broaden your friend circle."
"Dad! I'm not gonna stop being Ragna's friend just because you don't like him."
"It's not that I don't like him, I just….don't think he's a good influence on you." George tried to word it right, but that turned out to bite him in the ass as Gwen sharply turned her head, glaring at her father with the patented 'Stacy Glare' that she got from her mother.
"You think Ragna controls me?!"
"No, but I know that the kid has been flunking grades." George stated, remembering the conversations his wife had with Cass on the phone.
"And your grades haven't been good either these last couple of months." Gwen fumed, knowing that those were all due to her hero life with Penny.
"So it's Ragna's fault that my grades have gone down? You don't think it's anything else?"
"Is it?" George asked, crossing his arms.
"...No, but Ragna shouldn't be the go to person to blame." Gwen argued.
"Sweetie, I just want you to live your dreams and I don't think spending time with him is helping. Maybe if you take online classes at home and once grades get u-!"
"Oh so now I can't even spend time with my friends?! I'm not a child anymore Dad, and Ragna isn't a bad guy." Gwen growled now shooting out of her bed and glaring at her father.
"The incident at the academy says a different stor-!"
"Oh this again, you know he didn't do it! What's next you're gonna blame him for what happened to Ben?!"
"No hold on young lady, I will not-!"
"OKAY. That's enough." Both father and daughter were silenced when Helen walked between them, giving her husband and daughter a soft glare.
"George, leave your daughter alone. Gwen, you will not talk back to your father like that….even if he can't stop his own mouth from moving." With that Helen closed the door leaving Gwen to her own thoughts.
"H-Helen, I just don't want her hanging ou-!"
"Hanging out with her? Her first true friend when we moved here? They're kids, George, now stop before you end up burying yourself in a deeper grave." Helen chuckled as she pushed George down the hall. Gwen let out a groan as she collapsed onto her bed, running a hand through her hair, before reaching into her notebook. She skimmed through some pages at some designs she drew, of which she didn't like showing to anyone…except for one.
"Hi! You like to draw?! I do too!"
"Uh…..Hi."
"I'm Ragna! Who are you?"
"...Gwen…..Ragna is a funny name."
"I prefer fabulous! Come on, you can sit with me and my friend Penny, she is super smart!" Gwen smiled at the first memory, running a finger onto the paper that Ragna drew on that day they met. It was the three of them, before Kyrie moved here, in a friend circle with 'BFF's FOREVERZ' on top. She hadn't let go or thrown this paper away since, it was the first time she ever had a friend and Ragna….Ragna became so much more. She could hardly believe every time that it was Penny that brought him out of his shell, but Gwen was glad she did. They had become a perfect trio, and that became even better when Kyrie entered the picture, the four were inseparable. Of course that love blossomed and became the polygamous secret relationship they are now in. She of course knew Ragna wasn't perfect, he was annoyingly perverted, or at least openly unfiltered in his thoughts. Still…..she knew he would be there for her, for Penny, for Kyrie….for any girl for that matter.
…..Much like how she needed him now.
(The Marvelous Devil)
"AAAnnnndd I'm in." Ragna whispered as he slipped through his window, hopping on one foot as he tried to pry his jeans off, quickly trying to get all his gear off if Cass randomly ran in. He quickly ripped his coat and shirt off….only to stop in his tracks when he felt something go flying off his back and a loud THUNK echoed in the room.
"AAHH!" Ragna screamed seeing his sword stabbed into the wall, quickly running over and pulling it out, seething at the sight of the now formed hole in the wall. Hoping she would never notice, Ragna quickly got his clothes on and began running out of the room.
"Meow."
"Not now Mo-Cass! I'm here." Ragna quickly gasped, standing before his Surrogate Aunt at the cash register.
"Wha?! Ragna, how did you get upstairs?" Cass asked, knowing the last time she saw Ragna he was leaving the cafe.
"I….Uh…I walked past you earlier." Ragna lied, shrugging his shoulders.
"What how did-You know what, nevermind, what's important is that you are here to help." Cass smiled as she leaned up and hugged Ragna, just glad to have some help for tonight.
"Uh….what is tonight?"
"Don't you remember? Poetry night!" Cass exclaimed, gesturing to the cafe, where nearly over a dozen men and women in beatnik style clothing sat around with stacks of papers in their hands.
"...Fu-!"
"Ragna!"
"Cass! I hate poetry night." Ragna groaned, years of poetry night filling his head. Ever since he moved into the cafe that was all he could remember: Once a night every month Cass would host these little get-togethers so 'artists' could express their love or hatred in…poetry past the work hours of the cafe. And every month Ragna had to help fill drinks and or food, which wouldn't be so bad if he didn't have to hear every SINGLE poet the entire night. He didn't hate poetry itself, he just didn't understand the point of it.
"I mean, why bother making poetry, it's just a bunch of flimsy words trying to sound 'deep'." Ragna argued, throwing air quotes with his hands.
"Also I bet I could do way better ones even if I tried."
"That's nice, Ragna, but what I need you to do is finish the cupcake mixing I have while I get everyones order." Ragna grumbled before slowly dragging his feet into the kitchen area out of sight. It would be his sanctuary on this troubling night, unfortunately he could still hear everyone in the room. Still, he could handle this, he's not a superhero and a Son of Sparda-Whatever that meant-so he can handle anything. Ragna picked up the bowl of already made cupcake dough as Mochi hopped onto the table, or at least Ragna thought it was Mochi. He was busy making the cupcakes, pulling out the tray and preparing the oven. He wondered why Trish made this such a big deal about this whole 'balance' crap, he has three girlfriends he can handle a demon popping one every once in a whil-
"SKRA…"
"Mochi not no-!" Ragna's eyes widened when a strange demonic voice growled to his right, and the only reason he realized it wasn't Mochi was because the cat was currently rubbing himself against his leg. Ragna slowly lifted his head to come face to face with a demon, a very small red skinned demon with small curved horns.
(Gremlin: Infernal Vermin)
"What th-GAH!" The strange gremlin demon lunged at him, pulling on his hair and cheek. Ragna grunted as he slammed himself against the counter, trying to pull the demon off his face.
"Ragna? You okay in there?" Cass asked, hearing the commotion in the other room. Ragna growled in pain as he ripped the demon off his face, the gremlin clawing and biting at his hand before he opened a door under the counter and tossed the demon in.
"Y-Yeah, I'm good, Cass!" Ragna chuckled as he grabbed the bowl and began pouring it into the tray as if nothing happened, just as Cass walked in.
"Really? Cause I could've sworn I heard a weird noise."
"Oh, must've been Mochi, he probably ate something off the floor."
"Meow?!"
"Skra!"
"What was that?" Cass asked looking around the kitchen, as Ragna kept his shoe firmly against the door keeping the demon inside.
"Uh….could be rats outside fighting?" Ragna suggested gesturing to the window that led into the back alley, Cass gagging in disgust.
"Gross, I should get more traps next time we go to the store." Cass suggested as she walked back out to entertain the patrons. Ragna sighed before he quickly placed the cupcake tray into the oven and set the timer. He looked down only to gawk when he saw the door open and emptied with no gremlin demon in sight. His shock turned into pain as the demon slammed on his head and began biting and clawing. Ragna growled as he fumbled around in the kitchen, luckily everyone was so busy talking and Cass entertaining them they didn't seem him rolling across the ground as the demon climbed and clawed at his head.
"Enough!" Ragna growled, pulling the demon off his head and throwing it with his super strength out the window, watching it splatter across the other building.
"Ew. Gross."
"Ragna?" Ragna jumped up when he heard Cass call his name, quickly running out of the kitchen surprising Cass and a few customers.
"Heh…heh, all good Cass, the cupcakes will be done soon…ish."
"Um, sweetie, your hair?" Cass asked, gesturing to her head. In the commotion with the demon gremlin, his long raven hair were covered in the demons saliva making some locks stick up like an anime character.
"Oh this?! It's….Uh….a new do, I've been trying new styles and seeing what clicks with me." Ragna lied, posing for Cass who let out an awkward chuckle, before someone cleared their throat.
"I would like to read this short poem that I made for my love, Beatrice." The man said, gesturing to a girl with glasses.
"Mirrors shatter like rain, yet your eyes shine through the pain. The broken glasses are abandoned. Some day…time will wash them off. To a far away land." He finished, the entire room filled with snapping fingers…..all the while Ragna pinched the bridge of his nose letting out a long deep sigh.
"I hate poems." Ragna's thoughts went unnoticed as sirens echoed outside, showing two police vehicles driving by.
"Oh dear, I wonder what that is all about." Cass wondered, and Ragna knew it was up to the hero of Redgrave City to figure it out.
"Uh, I'll be in the kitchen watching the cupcakes if ya need me, Cass." Ragna said, walking back into the other room and once out of sight he quickly ran upstairs and into his room. He quickly threw on his gear and hopped outside running after the sirens.
(The Marvelous Devil)
"Another save by yours truly!" Ragna declared, giving the cops a thumbs up, Davis shaking his head.
"Hey I saved everyone again!" Ragna argued. He arrived in the nick of time to stop another car of thieves, those this time he really just rammed his body into the side knocking out a tire and the car rolling across the road.
"And the destruction of the bus was necessary?!" Davis asked, gesturing to the burning bus right behind Ragna.
"...I mean no one was inside the burning bus so no one got hurt. That's a win-win in my bo….Burning…..Burning…..OH CRAP THE CUPCAKES!" Ragna quickly ran at super speed, leaving the two cops wondering what the hell he meant by that.
(The Marvelous Devil)
"Crap! Crap! Cra-Made it!" Ragna exclaimed as flew through his window throwing his gear off as quickly as possible, crying out as he fell down the stairs getting his pants on. He quickly stood back up and ran to the oven, seeing slightly burnt cupcakes inside.
"Nonononono! It's okay, okay, I can fix this." Ragna muttered as he opened the oven.
"SKRA!" A Gremlin roared as it burst into flames, lunging at Ragna from within the oven.
"GAH YOU LITTLE-BUZZ OFF!" Ragna ripped the demon off of him, throwing it out the window at the same spot he threw the other, demon blood splattering across the wall. Ragna quickly pulled out the tray, surprisingly the heat didn't burn him as much as he thought it would, grimacing as the sudden combustion from the demon completely burnt the cupcakes.
"Okay…..Okay I can fix this, right?" Ragna asked, looking over at Mochi who sat at the counter.
"...Meow."
"Aren't you a ray of sunshine huh?! Whatever, all I need is the frosting and sprinkles." Ragna walked over to the cupboard, opening it up looking for the final pieces to his burnt treat.
"...You have got to be fu-SKRA-ing kidding me." Ragna groaned as the demon gremlin lunged at him.
"I wonder what's taking Ragna so long." Cass muttered, looking back into the kitchen, noticing that she noticed a shadow being flung across the kitchen. Before she could check, Ragna practically flung out of the kitchen, holding the tray of cupcakes.
"Don't worry, Aunt Cass, I got it all handled!" Ragna declared.
"Ragna….these are all burnt." Cass stated, holding up a completely crispy cupcake that was covered in white frosting and sprinkles. Ragna noticed he had the whole cafe on him, and knowing he would have to explain himself, took a deep breath.
"Well ya see, I thought making them on a regular occasion would be fine, but because it's poetry night, I'd figure I would do this for a special treat, and I burnt the cupcakes so I could do this haiku that I've written." Ragna cleared his throat, before looking at the crowd.
"A Flashing fire/Burning cupcakes with hatred/Extinguished lover." Ragna finished, snapping his fingers, Cass letting out a small giggle as she joined in the snapping…..when the hybrid realized she was the only one.
"Oh screw you guys, my haiku was way better then fricken glasses or mirrors!"
(The Marvelous Devil)
"...Yes?" Ragna asked, now standing at the cash register, taking everyones order while Cass filled drinks and patrons kept on reading their poems. This was Hell, this was actual Hell for Ragna. This was quite possibly a terrible night for him, first he caused damage to city property several times, and then he was attacked by even more gremlins, and to top it all Poetry Night had not ended.
"...(May I have two glazed donuets?)" The woman asked, using sign language to speak.
"...(To go or for here?)" Ragna asked, speaking while also using sign langauage. He had learned it when he had gotten into Middle School with Aunt Leslie, she believed he could use this to help understand those that don't have the chance to hear like they do.
"(Here. Also, I thought your haiku was pretty funny, maybe with some practice you can nail it.)"
"Heh…..(Never gonna happen.)" Ragna said with a small smile, offering her two donuts.
"Aw, such a shame cause I would love to see whatever she was talking about." Ragna's eyes widened a bit when the deaf girl waved goodbye revealing a familiar redhead standing before him.
"MJ? What are you doing at this hour?" Ragna asked, noticing it was getting around ten, knowing the cafe would close soon.
"Well where else am I gonna get delicious baked treats that isn't completely on the otherside of town?" MJ asked, though for some reason Ragna got the feeling she was leaving something out, but it was none of his business so he will pry no farther.
"Got an order?"
"I ordered on the phone earlier." MJ said, Ragna looking over his shoulder to see a few bags, picking up one he turned it around to see MJ on it, handing it off to the redhead.
"So…food for you and your family?"
"Moreso for my sister and I. Parents are out tonight." MJ explained as she handed him the price for the order.
"And how is Michelle after the whole…..Academy incident?" Ragna asked.
"She's…..handling it well." MJ trailed off, taking the bag from him and checking its contents.
"Well thanks, Tiger, but I gotta head back home."
"By yourself?" Ragna asked. He hadn't been to MJ's house before but Kyrie had, it was Forest Hill in Queens. He began to wonder why a lot of the girls he knew that went to Redgrave Academy but lived in New York…..well it was a bridge over but still.
"Yeah…..I enjoy the quiet walk." MJ reassured him. Ragna on the otherhand was not a big fan of the idea. Sure he didn't doubt her confidence or that she couldn't handle herself out there, but after the Ancala incident….he just had a gut feeling.
"Hey, how about I walk you home?" Ragna offered, hopping over the counter and walking up to the redhead.
"Really? Don't ya got a job to do?" MJ asked gesturing to the patrons and their terribly written poems.
"Eh, I doubt anyone else is coming in tonight, plus they're gonna be wrapping up soon. Just give me a second." With that Ragna ran into the kitchen reaching for his coat, walking out waving at Cass.
"Cass, I'll be back just gonna walk a friend home, have fun with poetry night!"
"Wait, wha-!" Before Cass could even stop him, Ragna was already out the door with a laughing MJ.
(The Marvelous Devil)
"So you and Penny, how long has that been?" MJ asked, walking beside the taller teen as they finally made it back to Queens. It was a long walk but Ragna was good company, there wasn't nothing he didn't wanna talk about: Politics, hobbies, sports. She never truly got to know Ragna since when in class she was always with her friends, but now she got the chance.
"Well…..a little bit before her Uncle Ben….passed away." Ragna muttered, rubbing the back of his head. MJ frowned a bit remembering the news a couple years ago, how a drive by had taken out Penny's uncle, she didn't know the man that well but she knew no one should ever experience that.
"I'm sorry she had to go through with that."
"It was hard, but Gwen, Kyrie, and I were there for her." Ragna said.
"Yeah….you four seem oddly close for just friends." MJ noted. She didn't think much of it, but she noticed how much Ragna was with one or all of the girls and how familiar one another was. Penny being his girlfriend so he would be kissing her….or groping her. The same can be said with Kyrie when she hugs him and he just melts in her large bosom….then again she figured most people would. She would also see Gwen pinch Ragna if he ever made a lecherous comment about her or complimented a girl just for wearing a skirt and that it would reveal their luscious legs. Even then she noticed how often the four would be together if Penny wasn't with the her science class.
"Well why wouldn't we be? We've been friends for a long time, since the minute I moved here Penny became my friend, afterwards we met Gwen, and Kyrie joined when she moved here during middle school. Those three have been my only friends and the only ones I ever need." Ragna mused, smiling at the memories of the four cuddling whenever they got the chance, or Ragna teasing Gwen before she began pinching his cheek when he annoyed her.
"Wow, I guess I'm chopped liver." MJ moaned in mockery.
"W-Well, I didn't mean that you aren't my friend, MJ. It's just we don't hang out that much, heck I don't even know your full na-!"
"Easy, Tiger, I'm just messing with ya." MJ giggled as she elbowed the hybrid, who let out a small chuckle.
"Oh man Harry would hate you even more if you said this." MJ giggled.
"Harry?"
"Yes, Harry...my boyfriend?"
"...OH!...Harry." Ragna growled out. Harry Osborn, son of Norman Osborn the CEO of Oscorp, one of Penny's friends who was out of the country during the Christmas Holiday. Before she could ask what was wrong, the two heard some commotion and turned to see a group of civilians watching the news replaying Ragna's recent rescues which involved the burning bus and demon gorilla.
"Poor guy. I guess some heroes don't have an easy start." MJ mused, Ragna letting out a small sigh wondering why it seemed he was off to a bad start. He was saving lives, he should already be famous or at least have a more positive reaction.
"Do you think it was him?" Ragna looked down to see MJ with a more serious expression.
"Him?"
"The one who killed the monster back at the academy? The police reported that the students and I who were nearly swallowed by the monster were the only ones they could find. No sight of the one who sliced that beast in half." Ragna bit his lower lip, knowing it was Trish who got him out before the others were found, and it seemed MJ has no idea it was him.
"Well, I wish to thank him myself when I get the chance, since I guess you can say he's my hero."
"He's your hero huh?" Ragna muttered, a small smile on his lips.
"...Say, MJ, what is your dream job?" Ragna asked.
"I wanna act, I wanna do broadway." MJ admitted, gaining a surprise look from Ragna.
"Really?"
"I loved broadway ever since my Mom brought me and Michelle to a replay of 'In the Hall of the Mountain King'...and I loved it….I want to show the world to see me." Ragna smiled, completely understanding where she was coming from, she wanted to be loved….to be accepted.
"I….I know exactly what you mean, it's why I wanna go and do my dream job." MJ looked up at Ragna, seeing him smile softly down at her…..now that she really got a good look at him. Ragna was quite a looker, he had a strong narrow jaw with not a single ounce of baby fat, sharp blue eyes, and an adonis physique. She would be lying if she said she wasn't jealous of Penny.
"Now come on, let's get ya home." With that Ragna grabbed MJ by her arm, guiding her back home, which of course MJ chuckled as she unknowingly wrapped her arm around his and helped guide him back to HER house. A few minutes later Ragna found himself standing before MJ's house. It was pretty homey, nothing out of the ordinary to the other houses, though he noticed a few trash bags filled with empty beer cans and glass bottles.
"Well….here we are, thanks for the walk. I really needed that. You know your way back home of course, unless you're gonna call a taxi or uber." MJ smiled in appreciation, but Ragna couldn't help but notice that it seemed she was trying to get him out of here as quickly as possible.
"Uh yeah, but I wouldn't mind meeting the folks if they are home, or just see if you're sister is alright.." Ragna honestly didn't think Michelle liked him that much, but he could only imagine what she was going through knowing her older sister nearly died.
"N-No you don't wanna do th-!"
"Dammit! Where the fuck is she?!" Ragna was shocked to feel MJ suddenly wince from the outburst that came from within the house. He heard an older woman yell back, clearly in distress when the front slammed open. Out comes a man in his mid-forties, with short buzzed black hair and a five o'clock, wearing a loose button shirt and jeans. To Ragna he didn't seem that intimidating, but then again he threw hands with a truck size demon so his confidence has gone up, but seeing the way MJ suddenly seemed…..frozen, did make him feel unease. It also didn't help the minute the doors open he could smell the stench of alcohol, and with his heightened senses it was worse. He wasn't a fan of alcohol but Cass kept a few wine bottles hidden when May or Leslie or any of her friends were around.
"Th-There you fucking are! Who the fuck do you thinsh you are leaving the hows at this hour?!" The man slurred his words a bit, stumbling down the steps of her home, just as someone called from inside the house, MJ's mom if Ragna had to guess.
"Paul you leave her the fuck alone!" She screamed from her lungs but Paul ignored it as he kept walking towards his daughter. However, to his confusion someone stepped between him and MJ, one arm held out from her protectively, making the man looked up to see a teen around MJ's age stare at him stoically.
"What the hell are you looking at?!"
"That's a great question." Ragna grumbled, plugging his nose as he could smell the beer from where he stood. He didn't need to know what was going on, just seeing MJ scared, her eyes wide with small terror, was enough to put him inbetween who he guessed was her father. He was lucky enough that Cass was a 'happy drunk' or that he didn't know anyone that was terrible when drunk, but he could only guess what MJ was going through. It also proved his point when MJ put an her hand on his arm, yet did not move him aside.
"Y-You her fucking boyfriend?"
"...And if I was?" Ragna asked, unaware of MJ's shocked expression, his focus entirely on this Paul guy. Clearly MJ got her looks from her mother, and thank god for that because Paul wasn't much to look at from Ragna's perspective.
"And I thought she was dating that Flash kid, but no surprise, just one guy after the next. She ain't worth nothing, nothing but trash just like her moth-!" Paul's words were silenced when a fist collided with his jaw, knocking him back into a pile of trash. MJ's eyes widened in pure awe as Ragna lowered his fist, turning around offering MJ an apologetic smile.
"Sorry, probably my most ideal first time meeting the folks." Ragna said, smiling down at MJ, her shocked eyes staring up at his. She was even more surprised when he leaned over and pulled her into a one armed hug, giving her a tight squeeze before pulling a part and patting her red hair.
"Have a good night, MJ." With that Ragna walked past her with his hands behind his head, not another word past between the two as MJ watched him go until he was a speck down the road. She….she didn't know if she should be shocked or happy that he knocked out her father. Speaking of her dad she could see he wasn't gonna get up anytime, so she thought he would be fine laying in the trash before walking in and comforting her mother.
(The Marvelous Devil)
Ragna stared at the hand that punched Paul, wondering if he had made the right choice, wondering if Ben would scold him for it. He took that back, cause as far as he remembered Ben hated drinking or alcoholics in general. Ben was stern sometimes, especially when they were kids, but the old man was as kind as they come. He wondered if his own dad was a drinker, but the way Leslie described disproved the idea.
"I wish to thank him myself, huh." Ragna muttered, reflecting what MJ said earlier. As far as he could remember, beside the girl who was getting robbed before all this Son of Sparda stuff, no one had ever thanked him since he started being a hero. No he didn't fricken count the old lady cause he didn't save her, she wasn't in any danger when the car. Still, the idea that someone did wanna thank him felt….nice, especially from MJ. Especially after the clustertruck that was tonight with the demonic vermin and the damn constant juggling of his normal life and trying to go rescue the city or stopping crime.
"SKRA!" Ragna turned to his right to see another Gremlin that jumped out of the bush, snarling at Ragna. The hybrid groaned before he noticed nearly three dozen eyes staring at him from the darkness.
"Alright, alright bring it on you little shi-!"
KRA-KOOM
Ragna's eyes shot wide open when an electric bolt struck every single grimlin, reducing them to ash. He heard boots clacking behind before they stopped right beside him, knowing full well it was Trish.
"...It's never gonna get easier with demons, is it?" Ragna asked.
"No, that is what I've been training you for: Ancala, these Gremlins, the Oranggeurra, they are just the beginning. We start training tomorrow after your school lessons." Trish stated, turning around and walking away from the hybrid.
"...We'll cut the training to three hours, gives you time to do any of that hero business." Ragnas eyes widened in surprise, turning around only to find Trish was gone. With that the hybrid made his way back to the cafe to find it empty and cleaned up. He locked the doors and began making his way upstairs, finding Cass sleeping on the couch. He picked her up, walking into her room and gently setting her down, laying a blanket over her as Mochi joined his owner. Ragna walked out and headed to his own bed, slipping off his shirt and relaxing in his boxers, hoping to enjoy the rest of the night in peace. Of course that was abruptly ended when he heard tapping on his window, looking over surprised at who it was at this hour.
"Gwen?" The hybrid muttered walking over and opening up his window. She slipped in with a packback over her shoulder, his petite drummer girlfriend averting her eyes from his gaze. He may not be the smartest of the four, but he wasn't blind to see his girlfriend in distress.
"...Is it alright if I-!"
"Of course, come on." Before Gwen could even finish she was already picked up and held in Ragna's arms. She was always smaller then Ragna due to his height, but with his sudden gain in muscles she felt like he could bend her in half with a flex of his arm…..and she kinda wanted him to do it. He easily laid down with her on his chest, one hand on her back rubbing it soothingly, with the other intertwined with her hers.
"...Troubles at home?"
"...Something like that." Gwen mumbled, rubbing her head against his chest, listening to his heart beating.
"Ragna…..you support me, right?"
"That came out of left field, why wouldn't I?" Ragna asked, wondering if he showed and signs of not caring for Gwen's dream to be a drummer.
"It's just, you are fine with my dream, right?" Ragna looked down to see Gwen lifting her head up a bit, she looked so vulnerable, like one wrong word could shatter her worldview. This was the side of Gwen only Ragna had, the side not many not even her parents knew, the side where she could be honest and unleash her insecurities. One Ragna would, and will never hurt.
"Live the dream you want, Gwen, I'm gonna be right beside ya. So long as it's healthy for you and your family, I will always have your back." Ragna leaned down kissing Gwen, who returned it full force. Once they pulled apart, the hybrid laid back down with Gwen now sighing softly in his chest, a small smile on her lips.
"Where did you go by the way? I was waiting by your window for a while." Gwen asked.
"Wait, really? Jeez sorry I have my phone off cause…..well it's a long story but I was walking MJ home.." Ragna explained.
"How is she?"
"She's…..doing alright. It's hard to imagine what anyone goes through when they are nearly eaten by a monster." Ragna said, scratching his cheek.
"...Do you like MJ?" Gwen suddenly asked.
"I mean…..I like all girls who aren't related to me." Ragna joked, earning a pinch on his chest.
"But I mean…I do think MJ is beautiful, but I don't think she likes me that way and I don't love her the same way as I do you guys." Ragna admitted.
"But…..if Penny, Kyrie, and I allowed it, would you love others just like you love us?" Gwen asked, confusing Ragna even more. Was she suggesting a harem? Now admittedly he would be lying if he said he would ever want a harem, what man or woman wouldn't want one? But he had three awesome and amazing girls, what else could he ask for? Beside if he was gonna be with more, it was serious, he doesn't do one night stands or hook ups. Call him a romanic floozy, he loved it.
"Why do you ask, Gwen?"
"...So long as you have me, Penny, and Kyrie front and center." Gwen answered puzzling the hybrid but one look on her face showed she would leave at that. He would ask later, but from Gwen's perspective she loved Ragna and she would never question his love for her….but she would be lying if she said she didn't notice two girls in particular who weren't in the friend circle that had their eyes on Ragna when not looking. One was a grade above her and the other….was much closer to home. She and the girls talked about this, but she would save this for another time, to tired and just wanting to relax with her boyfriend.
"...Tonight was Poetry Night." The hybrid muttered.
"Oh yeah? How'd that go?" Gwen asked, snuggling into his right pectoral muscle, rubbing a hand over his muscles.
"...Ya think I could be good at poetry?"
"..."
"..."
"...I think you should stick to your strengths, Ragna." Ragna grumbled under his breath, Gwen smiling as he pulled her closer, the two enjoying a blissful sleep. While in Queens, a certain redhead was silently pleasuring herself to the new crimson hero of Redgrave City, and would add a certain raven hair teen into the dreaming threesome.
Ragna didn't know what he had in store for tomorrow, but so long as Gwen, or any of his girls or family were here, he had a reason to keep following his dream. As a hero, as a Son of Sparda.
Whatever that means.
(The Marvelous Devil)
"Mr. Osborn?" A voice called out, the man spinning in his chair with a small smile on his lips.
"Yes?"
"The Serum is ready, Sir." Norman smiled, standing up from his chair. Finally, his work was complete, and it was time to show the world his brilliance. His dreams.
"Good, activate Project Green, let's get to work."
(The Marvelous Devil)
Man fuck Paul, that's it. That's the punchline, literally.
Achievement Unlocked: Fuck Paul (Punched Paul)
You thought it was Hot spicy Erotic Sex! But it was I: Soft Fluff Love! This is only addressed to one person in particular, don't worry everyone this is just some fun.
Ya know I never actually explained it but Redgrave City is basically twice the size of Manhattan, and is right between it and Brooklyn/Queens. It's not that I didn't care, but it's obv I should've brought it up since this is gonna work differently then in ADJ. Since I did have it where there were demons in ADJ, I didn't obv show them as much in Vol 1, and there was a lore reason for that. I just never got the chance to explain and hopefully with TMD I can fix them and make it better. I was trying to do the 'Juggling of life' that I explained in the summary last chapter, but I guess I should've of mentioned every summary at the end of each chapter won't be ONE HUNDRED percent accurate as I am trying to keep things a secret. Next chapter I hope to introduce a B-List villain for Ragna of my own creation along with a Spider-Man (Girl) villain. I also tried to build up Ragna's heightened senses such as super...smelling, and he'll get others such heightened senses or even super hearing but that's really it. There is another one but I haven't fully decided on it yet so...yeah.
The Gremlins are not the ones from said movie, but is based on the Jersey Devil from the 2007 TMNT movie. On the Infernal Hierarchy they are literal rats, even below Imps. Moving on this was my first time trying to do that 'I'm doing this thing, when something outside of my control forces me to don my mask in the middle of my current situation'. Probably not my best but hopefully I'll get better overtime. MJ, who's overall design is her comic iteration (Or that one comic cover where she is wearing the white shirt and is sitting on the couch on her knees), is still my OTP for Peter Parker...but man Marvel is just constantly wanting to screw him over with fucken Paul. Remember if you don't like Paul you're an incel, well fuck Paul. In canon MJ dad is Phillip who is/was abusive in comics but I believe he was able to amend it with his daughter just don't remember which issue. Also MJ real sister is Gayle, and I'll figure something out. Anyways realistically MJ probably wouldn't have been scared, but I just made it out to be she was nervous/embarrassed that Ragna meets her drunk verbally abusive father...Paul. So Ragna punched Paul it's as simple as that.
I was gonna try and introduce more heroes, but I'm gonna save that for next chapter as it ties into what the overall focus for the next chapter is. Speaking of, canonically in my story the only official hero teams on the Marvel side is: the Fantastic Four and another group but I'm gonna keep it a secret. It's been a while since I've read the beginning of the Fantastic Four comics so I'm gonna spend sometime binge reading so by the time I get to the FF arc (Vol 3 I believe) I will be ready. Not to say I know nothing about them it's just been a while since I've read any of their comics in general. Like I think the last official thing was the Doctor Doom wedding comic where Johnny super fucked up lol. On the DC side there is the disbanded Justice Society of America, a few secret teams but no Justice League and or Titans/Teen Titans. I hope to introduce the DC side of things after the next arc and you guys can probably guess what it is about lol. Obv there are solo heroes like Power Girl, the Flash, and the BatFamily so you can take a guess what I have in store. Damn I wanted this chapter to be around six thousand, ended up with TEN THOUSAND. I really do underestimate how much I have planned. To end this I did enjoy the interaction with Gwen, and I do plan more for her next chapter, and then I got my first Two Part Arc that has the B-Plot follow Kyrie. Another bit is the conversation of the harem with Gwen, since I do wanna get the harem rolling much quicker then ADJ, and the girls already have it in motion of which I will explore later. OBV you can tell MJ is gonna be one of the first girls, along with a certain someone lol. I think a greater theme or belief of Ragna is 'follow your heart' as I wrote with Gwen, it's the overarching theme for our hybrid that you can see with characters like Luffy. I'm gonna explore more of it, and it is a strong arc during my revision for the 'Red Dawn' story arc.
Also if you got a problem with me punching Paul with an OC I really don't care, cause I actually care about the characters (At least Spider-Man), and am tired of Marvel's crap. They fumbled Eternals so damn hard, don't get me wrong Eternals isn't the greatest thing in Marvel but it's still so much fun to read.
On another note, what is everyones thought of Loki so far? I'm not that excited but I'm gonna wait until the season is over so I can give my full opinion on it so far. Speaking of Marvel man I ain't that excited for Spider-Man 2, but that's more of a me thing then 'Oh I hate example A' or something idk. I'll wait until the dlc are out then I'll probably give it a buy.
What's the new Boys spin off? Gen V? Yeah I'm gonna be honest I really don't give a shit, I always thought the show and the comics were bad. So fuck em. Man I cannot wait for my Castlevania inspired TMD Special that I have planned in the future, and I'm gonna replay the games cause I wanna. Who is your guys favorite Belmont to play as, or character in general? It's been a while so I don't have a favorite yet. Anyone got any new suggestion on movies?
I think with that is all I got to say, I hope everyone enjoyed the new chapter. I love to hear your thoughts so don't be afraid to review cause it gives me more drive to write and to hear your thoughts or ideas.
