AN: Hey, friends. Sorry I haven't posted for two weekends. I'm a first-year certified teacher, meaning I've been busy and using my weekends to redo my classroom mistakes. Anyway, here is another heartwarming chapter.
Summary: Lea wakes up Shaun in the middle of the night with some specific cravings. Set sometime during "Old Friends".
Dr. Glassman living next door was better than Lea thought it would be. In fact, it was nice to have one of Peanut's grandparents live close by while also not living with them. It was the perfect balance, and she and Shaun enjoyed having Glassy live closer to them.
Also, the new baby-safe car that was a replica of the Striped Tomato was an awesome gift from him.
At 28 weeks pregnant, the back pain and sciatica were creeping up on Lea. In addition, she, Shaun, and Dr. Glassman had received their Tdap boosters.
As usual, Lea's frequent bathroom trips and tossing and turning at night sometimes woke him up.
"Shaun," Lea whispered quietly, gently shaking Shaun awake. "Shaun."
Shaun responded with a groan, already used to being woken up unintentionally by his wife, even when she wasn't pregnant.
"What's wrong?" He asked groggily, flipping himself over to face Lea. He was hoping something wasn't going on with Peanut.
Lea sighed uneasily, scratching the top of her head. "It's stupid, but..."
Shaun stared at her with anticipation. "But what?"
"Shaun, I want some frozen yogurt," Lea spat out, feeling silly with this request.
"It is 1:00 pm. The frozen yogurt place is closed," reminded Shaun, thinking she wanted it from the ice cream shop a few blocks away.
"No," Lea shook her head, lying down as she had her hands framed around her belly. "I actually want Ben & Jerry or that Signature Select stuff."
Shaun sighed defeatedly, knowing he wouldn't win this fight since Dr. Glassman and Park told him something like this might happen. Besides, the Safeway on Bollinger - where he and Lea usually went grocery shopping - was open 24/7 and was a block away. He was sure he remembered seeing at least two of those brands in the ice cream section of that store.
"I'll go to Safeway," yawned Shaun as he pushed off the blanket and then searched for a pair of shoes in their closet, which were obviously in their usual location. "Anything for you and the Peanut."
"Thanks, Shaun," swooned Lea. "I love you."
"Would you like anything else?" Shaun asked as he sat back on the bed and put his shoes on.
"Tortilla chips, Oreos, strawberries, and pickles," listed Lea, hesitating to say pickles. "Also, can you get some cheddar cheese? I want to make nachos and we're out of cheese."
Shaun shuddered at the thought of pickles. "Okay."
Glassman, who couldn't sleep and suddenly realized he forgot to take out the trash and wanted to do it before he forgot, stumbled across Shaun in the hallway, wearing his pajamas and a robe and his car keys to the new family car and wallet in one hand.
"Hello, Dr. Glassman," he greeted with a yawn.
"Midnight cravings?" Aaron chuckled.
"Yes," replied Shaun. "Lea wants frozen yogurt, strawberries, Oreos, tortilla chips, cheddar cheese, strawberries, and..."
"And..." Aaron raised his eyebrow as Shaun hesitated to finish his sentence.
"Pickles," shuddered Shaun. "She wants pickles."
Aaron chuckled in response, holding his hand out for the keys to the new car. "Here, I'll drive you. The money is on me."
Shaun and Aaron went straight to the frozen and dairy sections of the store right as they arrived at the almost empty store. On their way over, Aaron noticed yogurt with children's TV characters such as Marvel and Paw Patrol printed on them, but the one with Anna and Elsa from Frozen was what caught his eye.
"Shaun, is this what Lea wanted?" Aaron joked, pointing at the Frozen yogurt. "She wanted Frozen yogurt, right?"
It took Shaun a little while to comprehend his joke as he noticed he was pointing to Anna and Elsa.
"That is funny," Shaun laughed lightly. "But Lea wouldn't like it. She wants actual frozen yogurt, not yogurt with Frozen characters."\
"I know," Aaron giggled. "She wants that Signature Select stuff."
"Or Ben and Jerry," added Shaun, leaning over the cart.
"Yes, and that, too," nodded Aaron. "Did Lea specify what flavor of frozen yogurt she wanted?"
Shaun immediately texted Lea, asking which ones she wanted, but she didn't respond immediately. He assumed she had already fallen back asleep.
"No, but we should get chocolate and vanilla. We should also get black cherry fudge chip," suggested Shaun, opening the freezer door to grab those three tubs of frozen yogurt. "We should also add Flamin' Hot Cheetos, Doritos, and chili sauce to the list."
Aaron just raised his eyebrow. "Why?"
"She likes to put that stuff in her ice cream," explained Shaun.
"Really?"
"Although, she only likes it when she's pregnant," expanded Shaun. "She craved it during her last pregnancy, and she has been eating it during this one, too."
"Ah," breathed Aaron, taking over the duty of pushing the cart as they headed over toward the dairy section for the cheese. "You know, on the Thanksgiving that Ilana was pregnant, we spent it with my parents at their house," he reminisced nostalgically. "She asked if they had any maple syrup, because she wanted it on the mashed potatoes."
Shaun just cringed. "That is disgusting. Even more disgusting than spaghetti with marshmallows, M&Ms, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, and jellybeans."
Aaron chuckled, agreeing with Shaun. He remembered when the two of them first watched Elf together, Shaun could not stand thinking about Buddy's favorite food.
"Thank you, Dr. Glassman," yawned Shaun as he hugged his father-figure. Both of them were outside their apartment doors.
"Any time, Shaun," Aaron accepted the hug.
After Shaun said goodnight to Dr. Glassman and thanked him for helping him collect Lea's midnight cravings, he returned to their apartment with the grocery bag in his hand.
"Lea," he called softly as he entered their bedroom. She was sprawled out across the pillows, fast asleep with her eyes closed.
Shaun put the food away and then climbed back into bed with Lea.
