The remaining Scouts were making their way to the Reiss lands, Lando was in the back of a carriage with Hange, Levi, and Mikasa while Armin drove.

"Hange," Mikasa said. "You might know where they are?"

"Yeah, I'll explain," Hange said. "Erwin gave me this Scout investigation report regarding Lord Reiss' land. Most of it had to do with an incident five years ago that shook up the Reiss family."

"Let me guess," Lando said. "It was when Wall Maria was breached."

"You're spot on," Hange said. "On the day Wall Maria was breached. I'll summarize the important bits from the beginning. As the lord of his territory, popular opinion of Rod Reiss wasn't all that bad. He had five children, and his eldest daughter Frieda was a down-to-earth girl. That even the peasants adored. But that night five years ago, disaster struck. With the world having plunged into pure chaos some bandits raided and set fire to the only chapel around. Unfortunately, the entire Riess family was there praying together. And so, the whole family save for the head of the house, Rod Reiss ... .was massacred that night by the bandits."

"So the death of everyone in the Reiss house except for Historia and Rod was planned?" Lando asked.

"Exactly," Hange said. "And to top it all off, this incident occurred just a few days before Histoira's mother was killed by the interior police. In other words, immediately after losing his family, Rod Reiss sought out Histoira. There must be a reason he and his lackeys are after Historia."

"The same bloodline?" Levi asked. "Is there some secret to their blood?"

"I don't know for sure yet," Hange said. "But what really makes me curious is that part of the chapel was completely wrecked. The chapel itself was stone. It would take tons of time and effort to destroy it. Bandits would take what they can and make a quick escape. Plus the only one who saw those bandits was Rod Reiss himself. Soon after, he used his fortune to rebuild the chapel. But why?"

"About that chapel being destroyed part," Lando said. "What do you know that is big and can take down a chapel like that and will take little effort to pull off."

"Titans," Armin said.

"I thought that too," Hange said. "But there were no traces of Titans. Even if I'm jumping to conclusions, something this suspicious deserves us checking it out."

"If someone could somehow control Titans without the world knowing for so long they would have to have some way of erasing traces of Titans." Lando said.

"We won't know until we get there," Levi said.

"Remember before this night is over we'll have all the soldiers all over Reiss' land," Hange said. "Unfortunately, I doubt he'll be waiting that long. If we don't hurry and get there, Eren will be eaten."

"So if a human wants to transform into a Titan they would have to eat another Titan shifter?" Lando thought. "Then who did Eren eat?"

As they got closer to the chapel Levi was educating them on Kenny.

"Now do you understand?" Levi said. "He is Kenny The Ripper. If he's there it's his biggest obstacle. He even had another person working with him for about three years but that person disappeared about three years ago, that person could be down there so watch out."

Lando didn't say anything he couldn't, no matter how much he wanted to, it was Kenny's last order to him before he left he owed the man that much to follow them.

Levi was right that person would be down there just fighting against Kenny.

"In terms of how much of a threat he is, equate him to me as an enemy," Levi said. "No, with those weapons of his, he's deadlier than me. Think of him as Lando if he had a sniper while using ODM gear, that's how good of a shot he is."

"Then he is unbeatable, at least for us…" Sasha said.

"If we could meet up with the troops-" Conny was saying before getting cut off by Mikasa.

"Absolutely not." Mikasa said.

"I know, absolutely not! If we wait until morning, Eren might end up getting eaten!" Conny said.

"Conny don't be so scared," Lando said. "She won't do anything, I'll stop her before she does."

Mikasa was staring at Lando.

"I told you if you get obsessed about saving Eren I will stop you by force if it means that we all get put in danger," Lando warned.

"Let's calm down," Armin said. "So if what the captain says is true, it's not like he has any weak points."

"For real Armin?" Jean asked.

"Yeah I'm sure he is trained plenty, but having combat experience is something else." Amrin said. "Only Levi and Hange have combat experience with Humans unless there is anyone here who does."

Lando didn't say anything.

"I wonder," Hange said. "How is it you lived with Kenny The Ripper but almost know nothing about him, Levi?"

"Sorry, I only found out his full name not too long ago," Levi said. "Apparently it's Kenny Ackermann. He some relative of yours?" Levi asked Mikasa.

Mikasa thought for a moment before saying. "I heard from my parents when they were still alive that my dad's side, the Ackermanns, were persecuted in the cities. My mom's family was Eastern, so being a different race meant they didn't fit in anywhere. Both were people chased deep in the mountains near the edge of the walls, so that's how they met and married. But I never found out how the Ackermanns were persecuted. My dad didn't seem like a different race like my mom was. "

Lando thought about where his mom's side of the family could be from, and why his mom was in the Underground.

"Has there ever been a moment where it's felt like power suddenly awakened inside you?" Levi asked.

Lando looked over at Levi who was looking at Mikasa.

"I have," Mikasa said.

"Kenny Ackermann had a moment like that, too," Levi said.

Lando thought about this for a minute. He always remembered that power after his mom died, but there was no way that it meant anything. It was probably just adrenaline and rage combined, both his mom and dad didn't know their last names, and someone that had some power thing in the family would definitely remember their last name.

"One time, out of nowhere, he felt an absurd amount of strength surging within him and he knew exactly what he had to do. I've felt a moment like that, too."

"It was probably also just adrenaline and rage with Levi's case as well, I didn't know what I had to do after my whole thing." Lando thought.

The Scouts stopped outside a building Hange had marked on a map and went inside, where they found a hidden passage underneath a rug.

"Found it," Hange said. " A hidden door. Hopefully, the layout in there is like I predicted."

"These presents better pay off, considering we went out of our way to prepare them," Levi said.

Inside the cave.

Kenny's new right-hand woman was talking with an MP.

"There's eight enemies at the least." She said, "You can be sure Levi is among them? As you know, Levi got completely ambushed last time and yet he still killed 12 of our comrades. The rest of the Interior Police are out of the picture, not to mention the government lost control. It's a bad situation all around. Also, Kenny swears that there is another target that is better than Levi and faster too. In a tiny world as ours, dying would be preferable to the life that awaits us if we surrender. Then again, is a life in these walls any different? We've got an enemy we can't defeat and all we can do is wait till they break down the walls and destroy us. We chose to join the Military Police, aspired to be interior police, and joined up with Kenny. All to seek meaning in our meaningless lives in this meaningless world. Let's keep believing all the way to the end….that Kenny and his dream can turn the tables on this world."

"All right we are all good," Lando said tying the last knot.

"Are we?" Levi asked. "Is everyone ready to get their hands dirty, too?"

End of Chapter 38.

I know I left you guys starving for 2 weeks and I'm sorry life was in the way, and I apologize that this is a shorter chapter but I wanted the crystal cave fight scene for a full chapter and not half of it on this one and the other half of it on the next one and I hope it doesn't take me 2 weeks for that.
