Breakfast at Tiffany's
Chapter 3: Lagoon of Love
The next day, Brian and Tiffany were waiting outside the classroom.
Suddenly, Brian's phone got a text notification. He looked at it and laughed. "Good one."
"What's that about?" Tiffany asked.
"My cousin's an English major. We go back and forth with ideas and titles for stories."
"Are those for his classes, or just for fun?"
"For fun. You know that cheesy romance novel series about mermaids?"
"Yeah?"
"Well, we were talking about how there's no romance novel about a mermaid and a gill-man."
"A what?" Tiffany asked.
"A fish-man. You know, like in Creature from the Black Lagoon."
"Oh, a sea monster."
Brian shrugged. "Same thing. Anyway, he sent me some ideas for the title. Something like 'Lover's Lagoon' or 'Lagoon of Love.' I think Lagoon of Love sounds better, don't you?"
"Yeah. That is a good point, though. How come the monster never gets the girl?"
"Well, there was The Shape of Water."
"Never saw it."
Brian gasped. "You've never seen- I'm going to have to show you that movie. As well as the Creature from the Black Lagoon trilogy."
"They made three of those?"
"Yeah, the sequels actually aren't that bad after the masterpiece that was the first one."
Suddenly, Professor Lewis came down the hall. He was a plump, older man with thinning, gray hair. In short, what you would think an economics professor would look like. He greeted the pair as he opened the classroom door.
"Good morning."
Brian and Tiffany responded with a respectful nod and a "Morning," respectively.
As Brian and Tiffany entered the classroom, followed by a trickle of the other students, they took their seats and began preparing their notes for the day, talking with each other.
As night fell, Brian laid in bed, starting to doze off. He smiled, thinking of the conversation he had with Tiffany earlier. Those thoughts then manifested themselves in his dream...
In an isolated lagoon, there lived a fish-man named Brian. He lived a lonely life by himself, longing for some companionship. One day, he decided to head out into the ocean and look for it.
It didn't take him long before he came upon a reef, near a cave. As he swam through the reef, he saw a mermaid. She was large (which he didn't mind, the more of her there was, the more of her to love), with blonde hair, a pink tail, and pink seashells covering her chest.
"Hi." they greeted each other in unison.
"Nice seashells." he said.
She smiled confidently. "They're more like D-shells. But thanks for noticing."
"So, do you live around here?"
She nodded. "Yep. In that cave over there. How about you?"
"I live in a lagoon nearby. It's kind of a journey though."
"I wouldn't mind taking it. Especially with you." She said, winking flirtatiously.
He blushed. "So, wanna show me around?"
"Sure. If you show me your place."
"Fine."
They swam off together, exploring the reef and the cave. As they talked, they felt happy that they found each other.
Tiffany settled into her bed for a good night's sleep. As she drifted off, her thoughts turned to earlier that day, and the mermaid discussion she had had with Brian. She wondered what it would be like if she was in a similar situation...
In a small town on the coast, there lived a beautiful maiden named Tiffany. She longed to explore the sea, there was just one problem: she couldn't swim. So she spent her time gazing longingly at the ocean.
One day, however, that changed. As she sat by the ocean, she heard a voice say "Hello."
She turned and saw a merman, laying in the surf. He was thin, with short brown hair, a blue tail, and glasses, for some reason.
"Um, hi." she said, shocked by his appearance (Not just his sudden appearance, but his physical one as well. He was pretty cute.)
"What's the matter, never seen a merman with glasses before?"
"I've never seen a merman at all before. How do you know you need glasses, anyway?"
"It's pretty simple." he said. "You get tested, and if you need glasses, you go see the octopus-tometrist." He laughed while she smiled, rolling her eyes at the pun.
"So, do you swim?" he asked.
She blushed, embarrassed. "No."
"Well don't worry, just take my hand, and we can swim together!"
She smiled, relieved. Taking his hand, they dove into the ocean. As they held hands, Tiffany found she could swim, as well as breathe underwater.
She smiled, happy she had realized her dream, and had someone to share it with.
As morning arrived, Brian and Tiffany both awoke from their slumber, well rested and ready to greet the day. As well as meet each other.
A/N: I thought this chapter up as a combination of Bernice's mermaid romance novel dream, and the dreams from the "Married" episode of Hey Arnold. I like how they used the different dreams to show their character, so I did the same thing here.
