On average, only one out of every three hundred students manage to pass the entrance exam for U.A. each year. Out of these successful candidates, thirty-six are assigned to a grade, excluding those who were recommended. Considering that over ten thousand students took the exam, it means that one out of every three hundred thirty-six students had successfully entered U.A.
The entire way on the 1-hour train ride to U.A, Neito does the math and realizes how good he must have been to pass.
As Neito weaved his way through the crowd, he couldn't help but notice the disappointment etched on the faces of those left behind. These were the forgotten souls, the extras in the grand narrative of life. Their dreams and aspirations, unnoticed and unacknowledged, seemed to linger in the air like a heavy sigh. Neito couldn't fathom how their stories had been overlooked, their names never spoken, and their significance diminished to mere blurs in the background. Yet, amidst his own excitement and anticipation, a pang of empathy tugged at Neito's heart. He understood the pain of being unnoticed, the longing for recognition. In that moment, he couldn't help but silently root for these forgotten figures, hoping that somehow or someday, they would find their own moments of significance in a world that often overlooked their existence.
As Neito walks down the hallway, he can't help but marvel at the sheer size of the doors. They tower over him, reaching almost three times his height. It's no wonder they are built this way, accommodating the various students with size-changing or Gigantification Quirks that attend this school. Neito can't help but imagine the incredible abilities these students possess, and the impact they must have on their surroundings.
The thought of encountering such unique quirks fills him with a mix of excitement and curiosity. Despite his own Quirk, Copy, being more subtle in comparison, Neito is eager to learn from his peers and expand his understanding of the diverse world of Quirks. He continues down the hallway, searching for the classroom he will call home for the next semester, ready to embark on a new adventure in this extraordinary school.
He comes to a halt in front of the classroom door, adorned with bold letters that proudly declare Class-1B. Neito gently glides the door open, revealing a glimpse of the bustling classroom within.
"COME HERE, ASSHOLE!"
Neito's eyes widen in astonishment as a boy with green hair and a mantis head forcefully drives a blade into the blackboard, lodging it deep within. A moment of silence follows, during which Neito realizes that everyone else in the room is huddled together in the back. They are not giving him much attention, which Neito quietly appreciates, because their focus is primarily on the mantis-headed boy. Wariness is clearly written on their faces as they stare at him.
Out of nowhere, a sneering face attached to an upper body emerges from the blackboard at the far end, right across from Neito. Suspended horizontally from the blackboard, a young boy stands out in his school uniform. His skin is ebony black, contrasting against the white walls of the classroom.
The boy grinned at him before saying, "Hey, you must be the last one in Class 1-B… The rest of us are already in."
Suddenly, everyone in the room is focused on Neito, even the mantis boy only for a moment, but that's long enough for the dark boy to tuck and roll out of the blackboard and scamper into the rest of the pack.
Neito slyly smirked at his new classmates, nonchalantly strolling to the crowd in the back, and looked at them.
"Yeah… I am in Class-1B…" Neito said as he bowed a bit and smiled, "Hope we all get along."
When he stands back up, an orange-haired girl gives him an approving smile. He feels like he's made a decent first impression.
Before Neito can say anything else, a deep voice clears its throat from the doorway. "I'm glad you're all socializing, but it's time for homeroom to begin. Take your seats."
Neito turns around and raises an eyebrow. Standing in the doorway is a large, burly man in red and black, with spiked silver hair, with a kind of face that never quite stops scowling.
Clearing his throat, the man walks to the front of the room. "Alright, homeroom begins now. Please find your desks," he announces as he reached into his pocket and retrieved a remote. With a press of a button, a list of twenty numbers and names appears on the scarred blackboard, revealing everyone's assigned seats.
The teacher then sighs at the damaged blackboard and muttered, "That's going to be replaced… STUDENTS DO NOT USE YOUR QUIRKS INSIDE MY CLASSROOM! AND GET TO YOUR SEATS AS THE SEATING CHART DICTATES,"
The pack of students immediately disperses. Everyone finds their desks. Amidst the shuffle, Neito swiftly spots his seat: number eighteen, the third seat in the column farthest from the door. He promptly places his backpack beside it.
Neito's gaze swept the room, taking in the diverse hidden and obvious quirks and appearances of other students. He then wondered what they could do and how he could copy them.
"Good morning, everyone. I'm your homeroom teacher, Vlad King," said the teacher in a deep voice, snapping Neito out of his thoughts.
"Welcome to U.A. High School, the best hero academia in Japan. You are the elite of the elite, the future of hero society. You should be proud of yourselves for making it this far." Vlad King then took a sigh and said, "However, don't get too comfortable. Being in Class 1-B doesn't mean you can relax. Work hard and train harder than ever before… Stand up and head out to the field!"
-U.A. Grounds -
Neito recognized the animal on the podium. It was Principal Nezu, the man who informed him of his acceptance to U.A. on the holographic message that was sent through the letter.
Currently, the principal was energetically addressing the hero course students about proper grooming habits for short-haired mammals such as himself, which Neito admits could be useful for some students. He wonders if the hairy boy with fur, standing toward the back of his class due to his height, is paying special attention to the principal's advice.
"Naturally, with these seeds that gave the potential to become the great heroes of the future, I can't think of a better way to groom them than by the Heroes who are standing before you today!" The principal declares, effortlessly transitioning topics much to Neito's surprise, "Over the next three years of your eventful student lives and beyond, the teachers of the hero course will guide and mold you into the best heroes you can be! Show them the respect they deserve, young hopefuls, and they will lead you to incredible achievements."
The small animal principal extends his paws outward, gesturing towards the line of Heroes—genuine heroes… Present Mic salutes them all, while the Gunslinging Hero Snipe lifts the brim of his hat in acknowledgment. Even Vlad King raises a fist.
Principal Nezu continues his speech, "Of course, the journey to becoming a hero does not have to be a solitary one. Each of you is just one individual within a larger class. Trust in your peers, as the bonds you form will benefit all of you, not just yourself."
"And now, without further ado, it's time to teach you all the school song!" The principal says joyfully. "The lyrics have already been provided to you on your itineraries for today. Sing with pride in greeting your new hero academia!"
Suddenly, an energetic pop song blasts from hidden speakers, causing Neito and several other students to startle. Up at the front of the crowd, the teachers' smiles become unnaturally rigid.
As the music swells, Principal Nezu opens his mouth to sing.
Neito is glad when it's over; from the sheepish looks on everyone's faces, he isn't the only one.
Principal Nezu then bids the new freshman class farewell with a warm smile, his small stature hardly hindering his confident presence on the stage as he said, "Remember, my dear students, the journey ahead may be challenging, but it is through facing those challenges that we grow and learn. Embrace the opportunities that come your way, and never be afraid to ask for help when needed. You are capable of great things!"
As the students cheer and applaud, Principal Nezu gracefully hops off the stage, landing with precision on the waiting head of Cementoss, the sturdy hero known for his rock-like appearance.
The teachers, energized by Principal Nezu's words, begin to round up their respective classes, ensuring that each student finds their way to their designated classrooms. The air buzzes with excitement and nervous anticipation as the freshmen embark on their first day of high school.
In the next rows over, Space Hero Thirteen leads the General Education course students back toward the building. She gives her own gentle encouragement to some of the more uncomfortable-looking students. Beyond them, Excavation Hero: Power Loader rallies the Support Classes. He struggles for a moment with an exuberant pink-haired girl who won't stand still.
Meanwhile, the space next to Class 1-B, where Class 1-A was supposed to stand, was empty, stuck out noticeably even with no acknowledgment from the faculty. Neito catches snippets of conversation from his classmates, who appear to be murmuring about it, but no one seems to have a definite answer regarding the cause of their absence.
Catching the principal just before he leaves, Vlad-King murmurs something to him, his face displaying disbelief. The principal replies, starting a brief conversation.
The exchange concludes with the Blood Hero retreating, angrily making his way back to his class after a stern reprimand. Their teacher approaches, raising his voice so that everyone can hear. "Everyone, go to the locker room and change into your gym clothes," he instructs. "Meet me at the P.E. grounds in twenty minutes."
Cries of confusion arise as everyone tries to understand what's going on. "Excuse me, Sensei, but shouldn't we be going to meet all our teachers and learn more about our classes?" a girl with thorns for her hair asks, raising her hand and holding up a copy of the first-day itinerary. "The schedule is clear about what happens after the singing of the school song."
"I was hoping to meet Hound Dog-sensei," the hairy, large boy adds, sounding disappointed. "I've always wanted to tell him how much he inspired me as a child."
In response to the rising discontent, Vlad-sensei barks, "Stop complaining! We have different priorities than everyone else right now. Now, do what I told you and get prepared."
"Sensei? Um, is everything okay?" Shouda asks from the front of the mass of students, looking worried.
Neito then noticed a girl standing next to him, pinches her shroom cap-shaped hair and felt her frown as she mumbles and whines, "We're going to fall behind everyone else. This wasn't on the schedule. We're going to fall behind everyone else, and we won't be ready for classes tomorrow."
The teacher's dour expression changes as he surveys his students. He appears determined, competitive, and genuinely protective. "Everything's fine, I promise. We'll have enough time for everything later, once things calm down. Before we start the year, I want to know what each of you is capable of."
Vlad King then pauses, then adds, "And Shishida, I promise I can introduce you to Ryou personally once we're done. Now go get changed. We have a lot of ground to cover. Class-1A is ahead of us right now!"
A/N: FFN is down, and I have midterms coming up, so there is a slim chance of updating piracy. BTW Neito is a good character to write about… he is aloof now but going to grow more into a competitive by the time the sport festival, happens.
