If Himiko was being completely honest, she entirely forgot that she submitted that UA entrance form. She was just having so much fun with her new heads and tails system that it slipped her mind.
Even besides that, she had already mentally written it off as a lost cause, as what sort of prestigious school would even bother looking at her when she literally permanently ditched the last year of schooling?
UA apparently.
Which was why she had to do a double take when she found the letter in her PO box. She only wanted to check in on a new phone strap she ordered online, but ended up getting a letter from UA as well. She was so surprised that she opened it right then and there, and lo and behold it was a letter detailing how her application had been accepted and she was invited to attend the entrance examinations. There was a time and date and everything was all clearly listed. It even had her name printed on the top so it couldn't have been mistakenly given to her.
Huh. That wasn't what she expected when she flipped her coin in the morning. It was a tails so she was expecting a rather relaxing day full of watching cat videos on her phone and learning new knife tricks.
Not that it couldn't still be full of that, but her interest was piqued! What kind of stuff would be on the entrance exam? Maybe she'd have to fight someone? Ohhh she'd love to do that, she could swing her knife and give a teacher a few pokes! She didn't know how hero blood tasted, maybe it was like some sort of delicacy?
Hmm. Wasn't there a written portion?
Everyone else taking the exam probably had an entire year of extra studying than her, it wasn't like she was a slouch or anything but a year was a long time! Sure she still had nearly an entire year left of free time before the actual exam, but was she gonna spend her days diligently working on playing catch up with no real course to follow?
Of course not!
And so, Himiko made a note in her phone, nearly ten entire months in the future, about when the exam was and promptly forgot all about it.
She had better things to do, especially on a tails day.
Like eating ice cream, or practicing imitating people! There was this one spot that she had been scouting out for a while, and sneaking in sounded like the perfect way to spend her day.
Rule one of infiltration. A clipboard and a toolbox got you anywhere!
Nine months and some change later Himiko was oh so rudely awoken by her very own alarm.
At nine in the morning.
Why would she do such a thing?
Oh.
The UA entrance exam.
Was she even going to do it? It was way too early to be getting out of bed. Most people would probably be fine and even get up at least an hour or two earlier on the daily, but Himiko wasn't like most people. She liked spending her nights prowling the streets for snacks (also known as blood) and entertainment.
Like just last night she had a blast watching one of those 'underground heroes' go toe to toe with a rambunctious villain. Of course she wasn't watching as herself, or near it; she was disguised as a person she ran across earlier in the evening. They were fine, only a small bump on their head and a minute of unconsciousness.
She was rooting for the villain at the heat of the moment, but honestly she was thinking she might steal a few moves from the hero! They had style! Maybe steal their blood and weapons if she got the drop on them. But going after heroes was always a risk.
Gah, her alarm rang again. The five minute snooze alerted her of how long her internal musing had gone on.
She had a few hours before actually having to attend the exam, enough time to flip a coin certainly. And enough time to prepare a few tools to her disposal in the case she actually goes.
Coin coin coin… where did she leave it? Under her pillow apparently.
A single flip and…
Heads.
Right, well…
She'd try her best? She guessed? Did trying her best even entail attending the UA entrance exam? Was this something she even needed to do? She was a villain after all, and attending a hero school wasn't exactly conducive to furthering her villainous career.
Unless… of course, it was…
Infiltrating the best (not her own words!) hero school in the country as a villain without anyone being the wiser of her being a villain? That was certainly a thing to put on her resume! Not that she was sending it anywhere, but it was something to put on her mental list of accomplishments.
Okay! Perfect! Himiko felt a rush of motivation for her new task of the day.
She got her morning routine done with, taking extra care to make sure she was looking extra cute today! Now was the time to make an impression and have the heroes wishing she was with them.
She'd take UA by storm!
But first things were first. She'd bring her clipboard and toolbox (packed with her knives) to the exam, because it never hurts to bring a clipboard and toolbox. Never forget rule number one.
She may have gotten more than a few odd looks, both by staff and students, but she pointedly ignored them all. She knew she was going to attract attention because she was just so utterly spectacular. Nothing new! That was just another day in Himiko Toga's wonderful life!
Himiko wasn't allowed to take her toolbox into the testing auditorium, much to her dismay, but she was assured that she'd be able to pick them up later for the practical. She just hoped they didn't look into the toolbox, if any of her trusty knives got dirty or damaged then she'd be upset.
When everyone sat down in the auditorium, a hero introduced themselves as Klad Ving (weird name but Himiko wasn't one to judge) and explained how the test worked. It was somewhere between the explanation of the test and being told to turn over her exam and start that Himiko realized an extremely important fact she had completely forgotten about.
She hadn't done any studying… or attended any classes in nearly two years at this point.
Algebra… was truly the devil's work.
It was like staring into the abyss, and the abyss staring back. Numbers meshed with letters and none of it made sense.
Funnily enough, the physics, history, and language arts sections came to her quite easily. So she actually had a lot of her bases covered. For the most part at least, there were some very odd questions that threw her for a loop.
What was the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
What did that even mean?
African or European? She decided to put down as her answer.
Answering a question with a question wasn't a good idea normally, but Himiko could hardly consider herself normal. Pulling the reverse card on the exam was certainly a villainous act.
Truly a nefarious deed!
